Being from Louisiana, I've been on the hunt this year for the best crawfish I can find. These were top notch and reminded me from home. Started with 3 pounds but it was so good I had to get two more pounds. The crawfish is seasoned the right way where the flavor is on the inside so they don't have to cover it in a dry spice. Also they were all big with just a few smaller ones. To top it off, having strawberry abita on tap is the perfect match for crawfish so I was extra happy. Saw the bread pudding on the menu and had to get it for dessert. It was warm, chocolate, and ate every bite. I would get more of everything I had The service was so friendly too and the LSU and Louisiana decorations made me feel like I was back there. read more

(UPDATE) I just spent a 4 day weekend in New Orleans on an exclusive foodie trip, and dived into some mom & pop eateries such as Deanies, Salvos, Zydecos And more, of the 7 Restaurants I went to in 4 days, All of them indeed had Sweet Tea. Delicious Southern Sweet Tea at that not what passes for sweet tea in Texas. I was not told to add grainy sugar into unsweetened tea like I was here. my tour guide was a local woman who's lived in the heart of New Orleans for 63 years, and was shocked and appalled when I read to her what the management of Charlie's Creole Kitchen replied to my critique regarding the Sweet Tea, (lack there of, as well as his belief that it isn't commonplace, or borderline essential) she was shocked in disbelief about as well as the astronomical prices we have to pay as their serving sizes in New Orleans are substantially bigger, for either equal or in some cases even cheaper prices. A Bowl of Gumbo in Texas, is a Cup in New Orleans this trends everywhere I visited. I understand importing certain coastal based ingredients can drive up the cost of the food, got it! that doesn't bother me as much as being gaslighted about things where this establishment does fall short. as a native Floridian, Foodie, and Avid Traveler. I don't really care how long someone's been running a kitchen (one way) constructive criticism should be embraced to increase the quality of an establishment, not gotten defensive over. Removing one star for having to go all the way to New Orleans to not feel like a crazy person about the Sweet Tea and Prices. This place is already really good! but could still be better! (OP) As someone from the Deep South, I have high standards for Southern Dives. First, a warning for my fellow Deep-Southerners: they must get away with this with their native Texan Patrons, but the lack of Sweet-Tea is Blasphemy. Unsweetened only. That's an automatic loss of a star. (that seems unfair over a beverage? no.) because for a lot of us from Louisiana, Bama, Florida, Georgia. That are looking for a little piece of home to dine at, A good sweet tea is the standard of a southern comfort meal. It's the peanut butter to jelly. The milk to cereal, the, Well you get it.. The Standouts: * Baked Stuffed Flounder (10/10): Hands down the best dish I sampled. The roasted red pepper sauce is incredible, and the cheese grits make it a real southern comfort platter. * Chicken, Shrimp & Bacon Corn Chowder (10/10): Truly New England-level quality. An absolute explosion of flavor. * Crab Cakes (10/10): Rich, delicious, and worth every bite. The Middle Ground: The Boudin Balls and Seafood Gumbo were solid (7/10), though the gumbo doesn't quite reach the level of a spot like Pappadeaux, it's decent. $11 for 3 decent Boudin Balls is highway robbery at its best. The Fried Seafood Platter was good, 7.5/10 but at $35, the platter is on the smaller side, especially only given one piece of catfish. The Oysters & Shrimp were good, the Crawfish decent, Catfish was decent, it had a small hint of fishiness, but it was good overall nonetheless. The side salads (3/10) the after thought of the menu, chopped head of lettuce smothered in ranch (or Italian) with one banana pepper, and one slice of tomato that looks like it was suppose to be on a burger, no toppings at all. Truck stops have better prepared salads. Which wouldn't typically be a problem if this was a budget-friendly eatery, but for its Texas-Sized prices, And New-York sized portions. The oversight of the Sweet-Tea and a decent side salad is for sure a miss. It might fully please Texans, but it left somethings to be desired from a non-Texan southerner. That being said! It is absolutely well worth the visit! The food was all above average for the region, the service was friendly, attentive and fast, the food came out quickly and efficiently. The location isn't great, but not bad. a little tight and congested, the interior is very mom & pop feeling which is nice. I truly did enjoy my experience, misses and all. Was craving some crawfish, so stopped in for lunch. We split the fried green tomatoes (yum - great sauce!), fried shrimp plate (lightly breaded and great fries), and 2 lbs of crawfish. Service was quick and easy, and the restaurant was clean. I love the authentic, hole in the wall feel here, exactly what you want. Cashew took his family for a couple of days to the RGV and left me alone to doom scroll on FB for new places to try in the DFW area. Since the family was gone, I found this Cajun place where the family might not be all-in if we went together. The restaurant is located in a very, very small strip mall surrounded by a residential area. I do forsee parking being an issue. I was lucky and found a spot in front of the main door. You walk in and seat yourself. As you enter there is a bar to the left that had the world cup games on and quickly you can see it's a small and established place. I had 2 servers who brought my menu and drink. The restroom is located towards the back of the building towards the kitchen. I ordered the blackened catfish with crayfish and rice. The meal comes with a salad. I suggest the Italian which was light and mixed well with the crisp lettuce. Then the meal arrived, average size portion of fish, with the crayfish. Bite one, it's there (Insert the song whoop there it is), Cajun flavor each bite. The blackened taste was strong and spicy with each bite. The rice was amazing, especially mixed with the crayfish. First and foremost, the kitchen is BEYOND FAST. Our food flew out to the table incredibly fast and piping hot. We started with fried crab claws and fried green tomatoes. Tomatoes came with a divine Creole mustard sauce. Opted for the house dressing (parmesan Italian) on my salad and was not disappointed. We had the Monica pasta that was loaded with crawdad tails, baked flounder with grits and spinach, and 1/2 crab legs. The service was exceptional, even on a bustling Friday night with a lively crowd at the bar. Seating is a little loud, but not horribly so. Yesterday 8/8/26, I was missing my favorite city ever so we found Charlie's and wanted to give it a shot. The interior looked like a nice chill spot, had the New Orleans street signs decorations. So We got chargrilled oysters, and fried trio plate with shrimp catfish and crawfish tails. Our server was sweet, nice attitude. After we ordered, we realized we forgot to ask our server for the oysters to be left on the grill a little longer, just like our favorite place in New Orleans does it so we went up to the bartender to put in the request. We were met with a condescending explanation to how the oysters will be nasty and chewy if they did that. The oysters come out looking like the butter was just melted at the last second. 3 out of 6 of those oysters we had to spit out because you could not chew them, straight rubber. That's not Nola style, bartender lady. Moving on to the fried plate. Smh only thing good was the fries and shrimp, the catfish had such a strong funky fish flavor, the shrimp surprisingly had a better batter than the catfish.. the crawfish tails were disgusting, I can't even describe the flavor it tasted like it wasn't supposed to be ingested.... if you're looking for food because you miss New Orleans, do not come here. Étouffée 3.5/5 - good flavor but the crawfish didn't taste very fresh to me Cheesy pasta 2/5 - I know it's a kids dish but I expected it to be a little more flavorful. Family owned restaurant specializes in Cajun cuisine. Nawlins style decor enhances the dining experience. Emily was our waitress and her attention to our every need was outstanding, Great bar and the coldest beer on tap. Appetizer choices are plentiful. The seafood fondue is a must. Fresh oysters and boiled peel and eat shrimp is a good start. Two gumbos- seafood and chicken and sausage. Anything fried is delicious. In season, try the crawfish it's mouth watering good. Try the crab cakes too Half crawfish tails and half crawfish etouffee was an awesome plate. Save room for the house prepared key lime pie dessert. 1) Boiled Crawfish looked a promising bright red. Pull the tail from the body. Shuck the shell of the tail off to get to the fibrous meat flavoured with piquant, aromatic Cajun-Créole boil mix. A section of corn on the cob & red new potatoes as accompaniments.  I like eating the yellowish-brown "butter" from the head, but found it for the most part tasted stale. Perhaps the crawfish was frozen which is detrimental to the delicate crawfish butter.   Or the Boiled Crawfish had been cooked earlier and had been reheated hours if not a day later which allows the butter to lose its freshness. Anyway, it didn't have the superior flavour of what can be found in New Orleans or West Feliciana Parish.   2) 1/2 Crawfish Étouffée , 1/2 Fried Crawfish:  Excellent, fried, sweet, fibrous crawfish tails covered with what may be corn starch created an Italian fritti like lightness & subtle crispiness. French fries were equally well finished. Must eat them soon to retain that exemplary just fried liveliness.  Étouffée sauce has a buttery, golden reddish, brown tone. Smoothness comes from the toasted, brown roux. May be red mostly from tomato sauce. Just a touch of Cajun-Créole spice blend. If there were any Cajun-Créole Mirepoix of onions, celery, bell pepper, it was finely food processed.  Soupçon of chicken broth to round out and give Umami to the thickened sauce. This version has flavours which are understated & subtle, but can be considered bland by some.  Rice acts as a barrier between the fried items from the Étouffée sauce.  Small, toasted white french bread to sop up the sauce.  The Cole Slaw was sweetened vinegar based with pronounced herbal french thyme, mixture of cabbage and what may be red bell pepper which was supposed to be a palate cleanser between bites of the Étouffée. Problem was its extreme, hyper saltiness which negated its role in refreshing the palate.  1-2a) Abita Purple Haze Lager Raspberry Lager was thirst quenching and had a light fruitiness which was especially appropriate for some of the saltiness that was encountered.  Service here is perfunctory. Not unfriendly, but disinterested. Passing the time and doing just enough to get by. There wasn't any "Laissez les bons temps rouler." joie de vivre at Charlie's Créole Kitchen. The food has its ups and downs.  3- stars for mediocre food & service. read more

They were not at all prepared for Fat Tuesday, which they should have been as a Louisiana owned establishment. $296 for 5 people and they only do 1 tab. Definitely not worth what we paid. Anyone who doesn't love this place is crazy. The ambiance is casual and relaxed. I saw notes about service, but we experienced the polar opposite. We never went a few minutes without someone checking on us. It was a team effort. We had the seafood fondue, which was AMAZING. The reason I picked this place was the crawfish monica... we have tried it multiple places and never loved it like we had in NOLA. But when they say better than jazz fest, at least I know they know why I love it. And it was delicious. We also had the shrimp po boy... the bread was amazing. The seafood fondue was amazing! May be my bias talking since I love cheese. My husband could not stop raving how delicious the blackened catfish was during and after lunch. I was nervous to try the crawfish Monica but glad I did. The waitress recommended to blacken the crawfish which I believed enhanced their personal take on alfredo pasta. Everything tasted fresh. Nope! I'll never go back! Went on Fat Tuesday at 4pm. They sat us in the back of the restaurant. When we placed our drink order (waters), we were asked to put a credit card down for the table. I've never been asked to do that in the 48yrs I've been on this earth. Okay whatever.... We ordered grilled oysters for appetizer and about 10 minutes after that we ordered our entrees . 15 minutes later our entrees came out the server said "Oh we aren't doing grilled oysters today. Sorry. The other server that took the order should've known." The food was mid at best. We ordered the blackened combo and the seafood fondue. Get the check. The total is $73. They added a 20% auto grat and 2.5% fee for using a credit card. The service was not good. We tried to wave down the server 3-4 times and she walked right by didn't even glance at us. I usually tip 20-25% but you're not to add 20% because it's Mardi Gras and then give shitty service. Called the manager. He could've cared less. His excuse was it was Mardi Gras! Start with we are very picky seafood family - overall average spot; but we realize a major neighborhood FAV for many and do not discount that - parking is great - front and back of restaurant. Lunch service was very nice - quick and attentive. We had appetizers that were ok; nothing got us excited so the fish did have fat on it which many places do - we just like it taken off and we understand it's not easy job - just had to take it off ourself. Crawfish dish was very strong fish smell - taste - cream base was good but passed to another family member to eat just too strong for overall taste. Prices are high but they do offer some lunch specials - looking around we thought should have ordered the poor boy sandwiches possibly might have been a better choice. Just not for us. read more

Crab Cakes taste like stuffing with no crab. Flounder stuffed with crab was great. The crab was good a not like a stuffing. grits was perfect. Crab claws was great Jambalaya was ok . This place is for your older crowd 50 an up. read more

Everytime we come here the food is great as well as the customer service. My go to is the shrimp po'boy.
