Great experience at this restaurant that started with ambience. It feels like a seafood restaurant. Service was excellent. They utilize team approach where someone else brought the drinks and food runners brought the food. Manager checked on us to make sure everything was good. Our water glasses were never empty. I ordered a Bloody Mary that they returned with a shrimp and celery stick. Nice touch. I specifically went here to try their soft shell crab and it did not disappoint. Others in the party had lobster rolls and the fried shrimp basket. I forgot to mention that we had the appetizers , crab hush puppies and fried oysters and both were excellent. We also tried the bread pudding and key lime pie for dessert that we really liked. Overall we would definitely return. read more

Definitely recommend a reservation! Our 30 minute estimated wait time turned into 50+ minutes. The ambiance inside is lovely and i love the different fish options. The mocktail was delicious. Our crab fingers appetizers were in a tasty sauce. The salad could've used more flavor to it and fresher lettuce, but i appreciated the amount of Parmesan cheese on top. I personally thought the presentation of the salmon was too much and a bit odd. I wish there was more sauce (or at least a side of sauce). The risotto was too bland, but the brussel sprouts were tasty and lemony. The salmon had a great crust, but it was too undercooked for me and wasn't the best salmon I've had. The filet mignon was ordered medium rare, but too us it seemed a lot more rare and wasn't seasoned well. The mashed potatoes were delicious. Our server was kind and helpful. read more

I casually mentioned to our server that I should've ordered my second drink without the sugar syrup and without hesitation, he had it remade to my liking. We dined with friends who just moved to the area and we love a good seafood house and Rex's in North Dallas did not disappoint. You absolutely cannot go wrong with the fresh oysters and the massive variety! They place a label so that you know which type of oysters you are eating. They were delightful with the beautiful mignonette sauce. So good. We also shared appetizers including crawfish hushpuppies, fried oysters and the tuna nachos. My favorite was the tuna nachos. They were super! When we were there, they were offering fried soft shell crab as one of the specials. When they have soft shell crab.....YOU MUST GET THE SOFT SHELL CRAB! However, my husband got the halibut that was also a special and it was outstanding. The sides were really good. Hubby got red beans and rice and sauteed spinach and I got the spinach and the cheesy grits. I was very impressed by the beans and rice. Good beans always make hubs happy! We both ordered the blood orange mule cocktail and it was strong enough and delicious! The service was very friendly and the ambiance is just what you would expect and very clean throughout. What have I been missing all this time?! I travel to Dallas often for business, and as always, I'm on the hunt for the best local spots to try. A good friend recommended Rex's and told me I had to check it out--I'm so glad I listened! The vibe is casual yet refined--humble, but with a touch of sophistication. I didn't have a reservation (Resy showed no availability), but since I was dining solo, I decided to take a chance and go anyway. The hostess at the front was incredibly kind and assured me she'd take care of me right away. She offered me a drink while I waited, and I went with a glass of rosé. I sat outside and sipped peacefully, and within minutes, she had a table ready for me. The place was packed! As I walked to my table, I glanced around--left, right--and everything looked amazing. I treated myself to a bottle of Prosecco, half a dozen oysters, the tuna nachos, and the sea bass with sautéed spinach, rice, and red beans. Everything was absolutely divine. We first split their ceviche which was very refreshing. We also tried their blackened redfish, seafood pasta, and wedge salad. Their portions are huge! I would say this was a good choice for fish and seafood. I enjoyed my cocktail which was a twist to my fav French 75. Lobster bisque and tuna tacos for appetizers were really good. I got the red fish, red beans & rice, and broccoli for entree. The red fish didn't taste seasoned at all, not even salt. The broccoli was heavy on the garlic but tasty. Loved the red beans & rice. Everything is absolutely amazing. You can't go wrong with any of their dishes. We've been going to Rex's since before they even had a storefront and started at the farmers market. We've tried almost every single dish and had no complaints. The red fish, fish and chips, pastas, salads, tuna, simply amazing. My favorites are the Mexican deluxe cocktail, tuna nachos, and their Mac and cheese side (not on the menu) is to die for! Had a reward card from Christmas so I splurged while in the area for some Tsar Nicoulai Osetra Caviar. OMG, it was delicious, Russian style off the webbing, with some freezer kept Stoli. Nice location, much bigger inside, excellent fish market and I think they cook some things in there. The gent behind the counter helped me pick it out, and I thank him for that, bumped me up to 50gr and I sat and ate the whole thing. Nutty, buttery, with a little brine but not fishy at all. I took my family to Rex's Seafood to try something new. The restaurant looks like a diner, just more updated clean, but lacking any character. Since it was a slow night, we were able to order quickly. The menu was fairly limited, so we asked our waitress what she recommended. She seemed unsure and simply said "everything," which didn't inspire much confidence. We ordered the fish and chips, ahi tuna, fried shrimp, and a pasta dish. Unfortunately, none of the dishes impressed us. The fried fish was greasy and soggy, I even found several bones in it. The pasta was bland and the ahi tuna was undercooked and lacking flavor. The fried shrimp was very basic and unmemorable. Overall, the food had little to no seasoning, which made it feel more suited to an older crowd with a very mild palate. To add to the experience, our waitress frequently disappeared and didn't even bring our check, someone else had to handle that. Needless to say, this wasn't a good experience and I won't be returning. read more

Rating is based really on food and price only. I got the fish and chips at $20.00, probably about $5 more than I would expect to pay for similar entree. You can order fish from their market, there is a full bar and the option for outdoor seating. The interior is cute with netlike light fixtures. It has a relaxing vibe. The service was good but our server did have to come back and ask a couple of questions about our order. The Caesar was good but the dressing was a little light. What a nice surprise! Met my husband for early dinner and a lil happy hour, first time in, and had such an enjoyable evening. Walking in was warm and welcoming, and felt like we arrived just in time to grab the last 2 seats at the bar, after walking by a beautiful case of fresh seafood. The bar was busy but the bartender rocked it, mixing drinks, taking orders and having conversations with the regulars. My husband enjoyed several of the different drafts on tap and I decided on the Hibiscus 75 which was very fresh and tasty! We started off with the Hushpuppies and Shrimp Cocktail, with homemade cocktail sauce. Hush puppies were amazing with a nice amount of crawfish and a raspberry chipotle sauce and the shrimp were definitely jumbo, nice and meaty with a cocktail sauce with just enough horseradish. Decided to split the Fish n Chips, and was so surprised to get 2 plates with 2pcs fish with fries/slaw! So glad we split as it was plenty of food after the appetizers we had already devoured. My sister chose Rex's because she has been going for years and we had clients in town. What a disappointment to say the least. I ordered the Mahi special at $44 and it was so spicy it was almost inedible. I ordered slaw (bland but fine.. it's slaw) and the mango salad which was fine but didn't finish either. The Mahi is probably the first piece of fish I haven't finished in a long time. The skin was still on and cut seemed like the grey underneath part covered the entire portion. Slimy and gross. I think I've been just short of food poison all night from this dish. In addition, the only Cabernet on the menu was $22 per glass.. which I thought was excessive.. a pre dinner glass and glass with dinner = my entree $ .. Just seems so excessive. They left the crab off my sister's entree and brought crab in a little dish to add to the top of her dish with no sauce or anything.. weird and looked gross. Again, just unappetizing especially for a $44 entree. They should do better than this. We were embarrassed to have brought clients here. read more

Absolutely loved my food and experience. Nothing better than a farmers market set up with fresh seafood. Our service was great. Attentive and fun to be around since it is mainly bar seating. Everything is fresh and well maintained. You can see them working carefully and crafting. Service is also super fast. The prices are better than decent for what you get and the quality you get. Everything is seasoned and cooked perfectly. The only feedback I have is, nobody really explained their steamer bowl appropriately. I thought it was going go be more of a boil and less of a scampi. The food was excellent as usual. The oysters on the half shell we a bit disappointing. They were so tiny. Good flavor though. The coconut shrimp was so yummy! And the shrimp cocktail! I had the sashimi grade ahi tuna plate that was absolutely perfect! Don't care for their coleslaw. Hubby had the scallops. Cooked to perfection. My cousins split the pecan crusted grouper which they said was really good! A bit expensive but worth it! A big plus, they make really good cocktails. Service was good. Great vibe to place, open space, high energy but noise level manageable. Our server, Amber, was terrific: knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, efficient. And the food was pure perfection. Our table split a dozen oysters, 6 Blue Points and 6 of another nice small, non-salty variety; they were delicious. Our group of 4 had scallops, King Ora salmon, grouper, and red snapper and everyone was quite pleased. Fresh, clean, flavorful, delicious. The sides were just as good: spinach, collard greens, brussels, cheese grits. We had vodka/sodas and then a glass of Pinot Noir apiece, concluded meal with the Cappuccino pie for the table to share. Really liked the clean and open ambiance. Service by Semiha was great. Once we got her to laugh she relaxed. She was very attentive and let us set the pace (initially asking for entree orders before our drinks or apps arrived). Drinks were very slow to come from the bar, but assuming that was not her fault. She gave us good recommendations and well-timed service the rest of the night. Rex's is not cheap, but not terribly high priced either. Specials were pretty high, however. Food was fresh and excellent. Definitely recommend the crab hushpuppies as a starter. Calamari was ok but I would not order again. I did not care for the heavy cornmeal breading (overpowered the calamari) or the dipping sauces. Highly recommend the grouper with sauteed spinach - fresh and delicious grouper (spinach was very good, but some was not sauteed). Fish and chips were enjoyed (very large portions), as were the fried shrimp. Only real negative was again the bar speed and why are you charging $2 for ice on a bourbon on the rocks? Finally, I just don't like them providing suggested tips that are calculated including the government tax. I will tip what I want, but don't try and fool people who won't look at it closely. After work (Nov 5th), decided to have a nice meal after work. By myself, spent close to $200. Could have spent more with tipping but the host added a sour taste towards the end. Her decision to ask me to move tables to accommodate a reservation, at the end of my meal left a bad impression. It felt dismissive and poorly managed. I'd suggest retraining the host on how to handle guest transitions respectfully -- diners shouldn't feel rushed out after a great meal. Overall, easily some of the freshest seafood I've had in Dallas ... considering it's not by seaside. read more
