Ordered an extra lean Tongue & Swiss sandwich on dark rye yesterday to take home after our meal. This review is for the sandwich, not the meal which was excellent. Been eating here well over 20 years and was surprised to see the Tongue weighed out to 3.9 oz and the Swiss (2 slices) to 1.9 oz. The meat was pushed to the middle to make it look good when cut, but there was nothing behind it but bread. I'm used to getting so much meat on deli sandwiches from here that I literally have a second meal for the next day. And the coup de grâce was not receiving the Extra Lean Tongue which I assume I paid extra for (don't have access to the receipt). I was so disappointed by this purchase. LITRALLY the best wings I've ever had. These were so delicious and I got them takeout and they still were fresh and traveled well.

I've been going over here for more than I don't know how many years but their wings never fail. I like them well done, but they hit either way you can get them bone in or bone out. Wish I could rate it worse than a 1star.. besides being over priced for luke warm not made fresh to order food .. the owner is rude. Went for breakfast on a Sunday afternoon , our food was incorrect , let the server know , they " made" our breakfast again and it was wrong a second time .. they sent the owner Amy over and she refused to serve us and not take accountability for their error .. as a resident of Cambridge for 42 yrs I'm appalled as to how she treats people on the community.. Loved the breakfast here. You enter into the takeout area and there are two large dining rooms behind. Comfortable seating and friendly and efficient service. They have an extensive menu with lots of tasty choices. We ordered belgian waffle which comes with sausage links or bacon and a cup of fruit. Served with real maple syrup. The corned beef hash was house made and delicious. It came with eggs, toast, and fruit. Also, had the Danish omelette with ham, cheese, tomato, and onion. Everything was delicuous. Delicious deli that's been a staple in Inman Square since 1919. The Reuben here is the best! They also have great lox, soups, and spicy Bloody Mary's. To be specific, I had the petite filet mignon and my girlfriend had the eggs florentine. Everything seemed a little bland. My steak was cooked to practically jerky level. I expected my breakfast steak to be quite well done so I didn't really bother asking for it to be cooked anyway (wasn't asked either), but didn't expect beef jerky either. First time at S & S was pleasant. Party of 6 arrived around 5:45pm on a Saturday afternoon. The place wasn't too busy and we asked to be seated in the bar area. We were told only one person was working the bar so we were seated in the main dining room. We ordered beer, wine and martinis which were reasonably priced, but served in small glasses. Meals ordered included Beef tongue sandwich, chicken Brie sandwich, Reuben, Monte Cristo, and side Greek salads. The salads were good and nice sized for side portion. The manager (family member of owners) sits at a chair and helps with answering the phone and take out orders finally has to stand up and see what happening. Then finally after I don't know how long he says "we'll I guess I will start a list" ... it's not the first time we encounter this "host" Here's a tip "host" ... "hi sir how are you? I'm actually trying to set everything up for my larger reservations but as soon as I'm finished I will come over, take your name and get you seated" BOOM!!! Super polite, easy .... S&S is a Cambridge go-to place with good wings, the fish is not bad at all, and the pizza and fish are really good. I've been here several times and always try a different meal. This last trip i tried the S&S wing pizza which was something new for me and it did not let me down. It's a ton of cheese on the thing with some tomatoes and onions but it's the sauce that makes it pop. Their sauce is supper sweet but delicious. I had several drinks and they're honestly hit or miss to be honest. Overall this place is great, most of the food I get is pretty good, service is great and it has this old school vibe. Grew up in Inman Sq and came here all the time but wow, has it fallen off. Came back with my whole family 25 years later and everything we had was awful. None of the seven of us liked our food- bland, greasy, odd tasting. The restaurant was dirty. A side of fries now costs $10. Service was good though. Have been going to S & S For years and am actually shocked that I dont have a review. Love the Monte Cristo, LOVE The soups... Love everything there actually. Now that Im working fairly close we plan to visit alot more often! Love the Hummus plate. The service is somewhat less than desirable, as most of the waitresses are the same ones that have been there FOR YEARS, and tend to give better service to people they know. We have lately been getting great service, so lets just hope it all stays that way. read more

A one star rating is too high for this situation. I bought a slice of Red Velevet cake that was disgusting. I spoke to the Manager in hopes of getting a replacement ( a completely different slice of cake), and I was denied with a touch of laughter at my request. I've eaten here so many times, and I have to admit, I ALWAYS order the cheese blintzes. I can't figure out what they do to make them so good, but these are the best I've ever had. One of my friends enjoys bringing her friends here, and now I know why. It's a fun place for brunch. You might not think so immediately if you drove there and have to deal with navigating into one of the cozy (but existing) parking lots, or if you have to wait for a table. That would be all the more reason to add a bloody mary, bellini or mamosa (all roughly $5.95) to your meal. Many people at our table ordered some version of eggs, such as eggs benedict. They were generally well-received, though there were a few comments that they would have preferred them slightly more cooked. I sampled the accompanying home fries. They were by far the blandest home fries - in presentation and taste - that I have ever had. You can't substitute quantity for quality in a case like this. I think if you cut down on the amount of fries, cooked them in real butter a little longer, and added some more paprika, it would have rescued them. Since it was the first day of autumn, I ordered something appropriate for the season, pumpkin spice pancakes. These were fantastic - perfectly cooked, a rich intense flavor, and filled with bite-sized pieces of chopped walnuts. I try to order pumpkin pancakes whenever they are available somewhere, and these were by far the best I have ever had in a restaurant. The pancakes were accompanied by a ramekin of fresh fruit and your choice of bacon or sausage. Coffee was plentiful; we were given a generous amount of creamers immediately. Even though the waitress was obviously busy, she refilled our cups frequently. Overall, the food was probably only slightly above average. But for me, there was something about the ambiance here which says, "This is the place to bring 'the gang' for a fun brunch." read more

This used to be my default go-to place every week when I just wanted to eat and not think about it. I'm sad but I'm never going again. They were extremely rude. The hostess today (wearing black) refused to let me sit with my laptop for a few minutes while my partner was running late, when I asked nicely that I had been working all day and just wanted to sit, she rudely dropped a menu in front of me telling me to make sure I order something while I wait, and then gave away the booth she refused to let me sit at while my partner was only a few minutes away. Sooooo sad that I gave them a second chance. Months ago I ordered the hummus sandwich and oddly the pita bread, which is the thinnest I've ever had at a restaurant, was cut along the bottom edge.
