Overall disappointing experience. Counter order style, get in line, make your order, come back when they call you to pick it up. Very busy on our weekday visit, crowded and loud. Social distancing is not being enforced at all. Employees were difficult, reluctant to give extra to go containers, some employees not completely knowledgeable, menu not flexible (one employee mentioned one price, told me otherwise when they tried to ring it up, gave me incorrect information on flavors, number of flavors I could order for wings, had to change order couple times because "not allowed"; menu says $1 each extra tilapia for the Catfish platters, but turns out it is not for each but for all since can only make them all tilapia or nothing). 1/2 lb Snow Crab & 1/2 lb Shrimp ($19) 16 Piece Wings (8 Spicy Cajun & 8 Lemon Pepper) ($14) 4 Catfish Fillets & Fries ($11) A la Carte Tilapia Filet ($3) Vegetable Fried Rice (Regularly $6) +Cocktail, Ranch, Seafood Sauces ($1) +Drinks (Regularly $3 each) Everything pretty average, except the crab and shrimp were very flavorful, but considering the price, still nothing exceptional. It was irritating that everything was extra- all sides and sauces was an additional charge. This is notable because as detailed below, the extra sauces were a need- not a compliment- to many of the bland dishes. Wings were meagerly seasoned, with some pieces moist and tender, others dry and in need of those extra condiments! Catfish were impressively sized; flaky and mostly tender in the middle, but sides were dry and overfried. Tilapia piece was very good, tender and moist all around, slightly less breading than the catfish, which was a good thing. Accompanying fries were actually better than average, a tad mushy but warm, well seasoned. The vegetable fried rice was the worst, no flavor whatsoever; especially disappointing considering this business is owned by Asians. Poured on that extra sauce from the boiled seafood to make it edible. As mentioned earlier, during these times, the greatest complaint was the blatant disregard for social distancing. Despite signs and stickers on the floor, the rules were not being followed and no one seemed to care. Employees were wearing masks, but that was the extent to their care. The tables are very closely placed together and none were blocked for patrons. So let's start here... I drive OTR as a hotshot. I was in Laredo, TX and said you know what forget this heat. I'm about to drive up to San Antonio, get me a room and get me some really really good food to eat. I had my mouth set on some good seafood. Food is good. I enjoyed everything I bought like the shrimp fried rice, the pound of crab legs and the chicken wings. What I did not like was the batter for the fish and shrimp. If you're looking for a good azz boil you NEED to come to SA Seafood. WOW. Literally no other way to describe the boil my bf and I had yesterday. We ordered the mild spice level and it was still decently spicy and simply delicious. The seasoning blend is insane and packed with so much flavor. The boil even came with this butter sauce that was CRAZY good. All in all, this is the best boil I have EVER had. I will definitely be returning and putting people on to SA Seafood. I also included corn, potatoes & a hard boil egg. I order the medium spice level which is perfectly spicy. Let me tell you each time was nothing short of amazing! Wonderful flavor, perfect cook, AMAZING Cajun butter to dip and a wonderful family atmosphere with good music. Seafood is absolutely my favorite kind of food and SA Seafood is at the top of my list! The boiled food was good, just very messy. We got a hot Cajun spice on it. You have to order potato, corn, and sausage as add -ons. We used A lot of napkins. To make a long story short - both my husband and I got really bad food poisoning. I was really excited to try this place out because I saw the good reviews and the food looked really good we got it today. I got the 3 catfish combo with shrimp and oysters with a side of jalapeño poppers and my husband got the 3 catfish combo with fries and hushpuppies. At first the food tasted good but I noticed the oysters tasted canned and tough. I figured it was due to the drive since we lived 20 minutes away but my stomach started hurting and then 5 minutes later I was vomiting and my husband wasn't far behind. Omg this place was amazing! We went for an early dinner, arrived around 530. There were a few people eating in the dining room while others were waiting for food to go. The restaurant has 6 tables following social distancing. Every table was cleaned and I'm order. We ordered the combo Spicy Boiled Shrimp with sausage and corn on the cob with the added spicy fried rice....that was to die for ....the best I've ever had! Could I have done more research before coming here? Yes. And I definitely should have. All I knew was that I wanted a pile of seafood. I ordered a pound of snow crab and a pound of shell on shrimp- then I had to purchase potatoes, corn, and boiled eggs SEPARATELY.... sigh but whatever, if it's good what do I care. When our food did come out it was ready for us to just leave with, when I finished unpacking and arranging it so we could eat the food wasn't very hot, I don't think I got a full pound of snow crab, there was the right amount of shrimp, the butter was good, and the potatoes and corn were fine. In total we spent $53. I'm annoyed I overpaid. I'm looking at another seafood place that's been well reviewed and I can confirm I did... If you skipped this place you can rest assured you're not missing anything. Ps had to ask for crab crackers and did I mention all orders are packaged to go. This has EASILY become my favorite seafood restaurant. The seasoning isn't too salty, the spice level matches (mild, medium, spicy), the fries are PERFECT (perfect crunch, but soft inside, seasoned perfectly), the wings 9/10 as well.
