Giving 2 stars - one for the service, one for the guacamole. I had a skinny margarita, guacamole, and macha combo. The chips and salsa/guacamole were really the only thing worth talking about. My skinny margarita was made with club soda - not sure why. It tasted way watered down (I guess that's part of the skinny lol). The food lacked flavor, quality and spice. The chicken in the quesadilla tasted canned. The ground meat (not sure it was beef) smelled like canned dog food (might have even tasted like it). I could not eat most of the meal. Where I sat at the bar either had vomit or spilled salsa down the wall) def not fresh. I was very disappointed to say the least. I'm not one to complain, and did not. I've been coming to this joint for years now. What I've gathered is, you either really like it, or you don't like it at all. We love it. There are always drink specials, and we have never been disappointed with the food. They bring you hot chips and salsa to start with. Today I ordered the quesadilla special which comes with 2 quesadillas (I got chicken) with guacamole, lettuce and tomatoes. I'm pretty sure every time I've come here I get the quesadilla. My husband ordered steak fajitas, and my kids shared the chicken taco plate, which was 1 chicken taco, rice and beans. My husband had a couple beers with happy hour, and I ordered a margarita. I actually couldn't finish it because it was strong. Before kids, that was awesome to me.. but now I can't hang. read more

Friendly staff, very quick & cordial but the food is terrible. This place was full, but there are NO Mexicans there. And that should have been the first clue. Chips~ mass manufactured and not fresh. Salsa~ very tomato based, no heat and over mixed so it is runny. Beer~ large selection of Mexican beers. On tap and in bottles. Enchiladas verdes, beef~ very weird consistency beef, like canned dog food. Green sauce also over mixed but it was spicier than the salsa. Came with rice that was crunchy, which is an indication it's old. Enchiladas Rancheras, cheese~ this was basically queso, very runny cheese wrapped in raw tortillas (traditionally enchiladas are a fried tortilla, dipped in red sauce & than filled. You get 4, no rice or beans and it is covered with lettuce, tomatoes and a blob of runny sour cream. I ate half of it hoping it might be good...nope, it was like a weird Mexican version of grilled cheese. Just nasty. I can say the staff is excellent & so friendly. I'm Mexican and moved here from California. I had high hopes as reviews were good. But I genuinely think Floridians have just not ever had good Mexican food. My small family and I ate here today. Customer service was as good as can be expected for a small Mexican restaurant. Salsa was okay. Queso was great. Beans and rice could use some work. Steak fajitas was a little tough but you get 4 tortillas with your plate which was great. Daughter loved her kids chicken quesadilla. Husband had the lunch chimichanga and he said it was just okay. Tall draft beer was only $6! WIN! Overall, it wasn't the best food we have ever had at a Mexican restaurant but it did the deed. We have encountered WAY worse. I have to admit the only night my husband and I come to Sabor is on Wednesdays - all you can eat for $8.95. You can't beat that - so I can't vouch for their food/prices/service aside from Wednesday nights. I really enjoy their beef quesadillas and chicken enchiladas. My husband loves their soft beef tacos. They have excellent salsa with fresh chips that are served as soon as you get seated. The wait staff is decent, but nothing fancy. We were regularly going weekly for a while and no one recognized us or was any more personable other than a 'how are you this evening?' For the price and food I'd only go on Wednesdays - with plates averaging $14 on the regular menu, I don't feel that the atmosphere, food, and staff are worth that much. read more

As a Mexican who was raised in Texas and moved to Florida it's very hard to find an authentic Mexican restaurant. I was not expecting it to be authentic which to many non Mexicans it would be but this is more of the service. I asked if there was a way to make me some chilaquiles and 2 eggs and that's it. Mind you they have two separate plates where they offer chilaquiles with beans and rice and another with 2 eggs with beans I believe it is. I don't mind paying extra cause that's all I wanted. She said she couldn't go to the cooks and tell them that because they would get mad. I said ok if it's an inconvenience I'll just order something else which I did. We might have had a misunderstanding on what I ordered but it was ok I was still going to eat it cause I don't like to return foods. The issue is I only saw my waitress when I ordered and when she brought my food. Never once did she come to ask if I wanted something else or if things were ok. I decided I didn't want to eat the food so I was going to ask for a to go box and order something else instead. I don't like to flag down any waiter so I patiently waited to see if someone would approach me to ask if things were ok like waiters normally ask. I kept seeing everyone around me being approached but they kept passing on to me. At that point I got up myself to ask for a to go plate and my check. That's when I see the waitress next to me saying thank you. I wanted to ask for what?! For getting my own check and my to go box? But I left it alone...Food is ok for those who don't know what real Mexican food is but if the service is not good then I definitely never come back again. read more

Back for a 3rd try at this local mexican restaurant in Brandon Florida. Wed. night is all you can eat, off a special menu of items. Again I say, food is pretty good but the service is very lacking. 3rd time here and not very busy any of the times we have been here. Unless your spanish, the wait staff dont really have much to say to you. My water sat enpty for more than 10 minutes at one point. They dont watch your eatting pace so you sit there with an empty plate for part of the tine and then you re-order and wait for the next plate to come out. Good thing is, once the order is given it doesn't take long for your food to come out. Overall nice place, good food, but needs a little training for thier wait staff. read more

this used to be our "go-to" Mexican restaurant for our family. We went today to celebrate my wife birthday and the service is horrendous. We went at 3 PM which should not be and was not a busy time. The kitchen was so SLOW!!! my wife's and my food came out COLD!!! Father's Day and no manager on duty. This is FL in June and they are requiring patrons to wait outside. It is a shame that a business I have help support once a week for 10 years...even through the unfortunate decline of their food when they tried to open up a different restaurant next door and have continued to bring people back telling them it's having a turn around. This is our first time here. I tried the combination platter that had a taco, enchilada, burrito and a chulupa. The big issue that I had was that all of the items had ground beef. As well as everything tasted the same. They bought out salsa with chips and I asked for if they had something spicier. Gotta admit,, I like this place a lot. First and foremost..alcohol. My margarita was amazing! I got it frozen, no salt and OMG, I couldn't believe how good it was. Limey sweet with a kick,, perfect! Hubby's Mexican beer from the tap was "ice cream headache" cold.. awesome! I really wanted to order the Ceviche. But even a place like Bonefish makes lousy Ceviche here so I was a bit nervous about it. Moving here from California where everything Mexican or Asian is "hella" good, I knew how I liked mine to be. I wanted fresh shrimp, plenty of cilantro, a little kick to it and ice cold ! Well I got 3 out of 4 of them. It wasn't ice cold, but a pleasant cool. And it was delicious! Then I ordered a combo plate with a beef taco and pork tamale with refried beans and rice. Another winner. The ground beef in my taco had an awesome flavor and although the masa was a bit too thick, so little pork in my tamale. But the flavor was great. Rice & beans were ...eh...filler. The restaurant itself seemed clean, wait staff very good and friendly. They offer outdoor seating as well as in. The only thing I didn't like was the Owner/Manager was quite bossy to the staff and he seemed a bit flustered but the little rush of customers at the time we arrived. Okay. I get it. Some people expect Oaxaca or Mexico City or Cabo or even Veracruz {shudder}. This isn't that. It's Americanised. SO WHAT? The food is delicious. I am probably pickier than most reviewers, and I adore authentic Mexican cuisine. But does that mean that I have to trash restaurants that deliver... goodness? Some of the dishes really do break with the "Tex-Mex" milieu. The flautas are not anything you'd expect at a local faux-Mex spot. The guac is good if a bit too smooth. The fajitas are pure American; no Latina would stoop top that flavor or presentation. The tamale, though, is actually fairly decent. Overall, the food is excellent. If you are coming to experience the magic of Chalco de Díaz Covarrubias or Itzimná or Col del Periodista, never mind. Buy a ticket on an airplane and enjoy your meal. If you want excellent, well-prepared "mexican" (small 'm') food, this is the place you want to eat. Especially in the food-wasteland of west-central Florida. Relax, order a Dos Equis or a Modelo (or even a Bud Lite) and have a great meal. Try the enchiladas (good) or the chimichangas (superb) or the abomination called crispy tacos (horrifically addictive) and have a truly impressive meal. Our go to place after running weekend errands in the Brandon area. This restaurant is great if you want to get in and out quickly. Nothing fancy about this place but it's clean, they serve good food at reasonable prices and the staff is very friendly. Our server greeted us immediately and with a big smile. Chips and salsa were served right away. We ordered our usual queso with flour tortillas. We love to tear the tortillas, roll them up and dip in the queso. {C'mon, try it! You'll love it. } We had crunchy chicken tacos. The chicken was so juicy and tender, best we've had yet. For sports fans, the TVs have pretty much every sport you'd want to watch.
