I ordered through DoorDash and the food was literally ready to be picked up in like 5 or 10 mins.. makes me wonder if it was made fresh or just simply reheated.. the food arrived cold and soggy. I ordered a chimichanga which was just ok, the chicken filling was very dry and I paid $1 more to add cheese dip which I thought would be a side but what I received was barely any cheese sauce on top of the chimichanga. Our go to place after running weekend errands in the Brandon area. This restaurant is great if you want to get in and out quickly. Nothing fancy about this place but it's clean, they serve good food at reasonable prices and the staff is very friendly. Our server greeted us immediately and with a big smile. Chips and salsa were served right away. We ordered our usual queso with flour tortillas. We love to tear the tortillas, roll them up and dip in the queso. {C'mon, try it! You'll love it. } We had crunchy chicken tacos. The chicken was so juicy and tender, best we've had yet. For sports fans, the TVs have pretty much every sport you'd want to watch. I've seen football, soccer, basketball, bowling, horse racing...you name it! They have a full service bar with lots of options. They always have drink specials too. I really wanted to love this place. Why is finding quality, affordable Mexican food in the Tampa area so difficult? You get ONE complimentary chips and salsa after that it is $2.99 which they don't advise you when you ask for a refill. My main issue was the service. We were sat quickly but waited close to ten minutes for a server to even stop and ask what we would like to drink. It wasn't very busy and shouldn't have required that long of a wait. The Food was Okay. I have the verdes enchiladas and my father had the enchiladas especial. The chicken was rather bland but the verde sauce was good. The guacamole salad that was served with the enchiladas especial was a sad excuse for guacamole salad. The queso dip was excellent, a little on the small side for $4 but definitely worth it. It was my second time going to Sabor a Mexico, and I was pleasantly surprised! It is often hard to find authentic Mexican food as I've just recently moved to the Bay Area. Sabor a Mexico was just that. Speedy service, a great fajita special (I enjoyed the steak fajitas), and friendly staff are all major reasons I will come back for some great food. First time here last night and it was a huge disappointment. We ordered the large guacamole to share and it was flavorless. It literally just tasted like smashed Avocado. No fresh veggies in it all like onions, tomato, etc. Chipotle's guac is way better than this place. The chips and Salsa were the only thing decent. Next our main meals, all 3 of us were disappointed. We all got the combination plates. Some of us got the Chile Rellano they were soggy mush. I literally took one bite and that was all I could tolerate. Before you can really dig in to this marvelous spicy (it has a pleasant kick) salsa, your main dish will arrive. No worries, the salsa makes a fine condiment for your main course. Be adventurous! Order something other than the same old boring combo plate and try the Steak Ahijado with Shrimp! Big flavors abound on this dish. A generous portion of marinated and seasoned skirt steak is covered generously with seasoned and grilled shrimp, all served over a bed of grilled onions and peppers. Very delicious and flavorful. A side plate with a large amount of Mexican rice, refried beans, guacamole, pico de gallo, and sour cream allow you to build your ultimate taco with the accompanying tortillas. Do yourself a favor, order corn tortillas, they really add to the flavors. After your main course, be sure to treat yourself to a flan. Smooth, creamy, and delicious.... Visiting for the weekend, came for lunch. Parking lot was half full. We were seated immediately Judy our waitress came within minutes to take our drink order. Came back took our lunch order, they have a lunch menu for Saturdays. Ordered Judy brought our lunch back very hot could not believe how fast it came out. We all ordered different items everything was correct and delicious. I ordered the taco salad very boring but this salad was fantastic. Everyone enjoyed their lunches had a few leftovers asked for some guacamole to go they brought a med size container- n/c!! Would differently reccomend this place. Authentic Mexican family owned and operated, this place was no joke. Four stars because it's a little worse for wear but realistically restaurants have suffered from the pandemic. I can look past that, the restaurant was very clean, dining room bathrooms and not a drop of dust on any bottle displayed in the bar area. Good service, quality mixers used in the margarita and the chips and salsa were homemade and tasty, I usually don't eat more then one or two but I kept coming back for more. My husband had the chipotle chicken, of course I had a bite because I like my spicy food, I would order that all day long, the chicken was tender and the sauce was one of the best I've had. I had pick two thinking it would be less food so I ordered a chicken taco and a chili relleno, the taco had so much filling it spilled out to the plate and the chili relleno was full of flavor without too much breading. I'm kind of picky about Mexican food, but this surpassed all I've had lo these many years. For me, their staff and management blew me away. We like to sit outside (no crowd) to make it easier for me and my service dog to navigate around, and I can kind of tuck him away in a corner. The patio is dog friendly and a family came in with a very excited and aggressive large breed dog, and a yippy lap dog. My service animal did not react in away and stayed laying down. The other dog would not stop barking and lunging. We asked the server to box up our food because we can't deal with this kind of situation (aim a disabled veteran with ptsd). The manager came out right for away and asked them to leave. And begged us to not leave and wanted to comp our meal. We stayed and it was so delicious!!!!! They apologized over and over but it wasn't necessary. It's just so rare to have a restaurant"be on my side" with a service dog. We will definitely be gong back. read more

Thought I would give this place another chance, as my first experience was just ok......waited for fifteen minutes while the hostess and manger tried to set up a ten top on the empty patio....as if it were building a rocket ship. Took the family there for Father's Day this year (because it's what my dad wanted). Parking was easy, got seated right away, and got handed menus to peruse while our waitress left to get some waters. I immediately poured over the menu and sure enough my eyes got locked onto item #44 Mole Poblano! I was sold! If you don't know what Mole Poblano is, you HAVE TO TRY IT! Think of it as this thick, bitterly chocolate sauce with a rich roasted spicy flavor...so good. It's poured over chicken breast pieces and served up with some rice and refried beans. Once I saw that I immediately knew what I wanted! My mom and dad split item #37 - Parrillada Mexicana, which is this giant skillet filled with chicken, steak, pork, shrimp and sausage. It was HUUUUGEEE. You can order it for up to 4 people but believe me, my parents split a single person portion and did NOT finish haha. Wifey ordered her usual tacos filled with chicken and she really liked them. Meanwhile my sister braved item #35 - Camarones a la Diabla.... which is grilled shrimp slathered in their hottest, spiciest chipotle sauce... and boy did she suffer. Aside from the ass-burning sauce, it just smelled pretty bad... Unless you lost a bet, I would stay away from this plate if I was you. So all of that to say that the food was good but here's where the three stars comes in: the experience. I understand it was a busy fathers day for the restaurant; but after reading other reviews I think slow service is just their opportunity to improve on something. Food took forever. It was hard for us to get drink refills, and the wait service forgot a lot of our sides that was suppose to accompany the food. Everyone I know has a different opinion when it comes to defining what "good," Mexican food tastes like. That being said (and me being a Mexican) I can confidently say this is decent Mexican fare, a decent price, and hot dang is their mole sauce some of the best in Brandon, Florida! As easy as it is to make, and they still go the cheapest route - ordered a vegetarian burrito and got an enchilada; just a whole bunch of cheese, cheap sauce - ordered ceviche; it was so so; it didn't come with lemon In conclusion, the food did NOT live up to the name of the restaurant, it is more Tex-Mex than anything. I really hate being a victim of false advertising!!! Americans be advised, Sabor a Mexico is nothing more than a taco bell in disguise! I got a taco salad. It was served in a soggy tortilla shell that had boiled chicken, lettuce, tomato, cheese. Plus sour cream and guac. The guac tasted like water. The whole thing was disgusting. I think even Chipotle might be better than the slop they serve here. read more

I hate writing one star reviews. It doesn't happen often. I work in Brandon and I've tried pretty much every Mexican place in town without much luck. This was the last place on my list and it was flat out not good. The positives: The interior of the place was nice and looked clean. There were a few flat screens as well. The negatives: The staff was flat out rude. No smiles. No welcome. No goodbye. No thank you. Nothing. My server stopped by after I was done eating (and I did have a question for her). The food came out 3 minutes after I ordered which isn't a good sign. I ordered the taco, burrito, and chalupa lunch special. The taco was good, the burrito was soggy, and the chalupa....well, here's the question I had for the server. My chalupa was a flat hard shell tortilla, lettuce, and a couple tomatoes. Is that it? I've never seen such a plain chalupa before. The food was all luke warm, tasted microwaved, and the beef was probably the lowest quality you could get. Server dropped check off, not a word. Ordered from here for Valentine's Day. 2 orders of Pollo Loco (their version of Arros con Pollo), a trio of beef tacos, a kids chicken nugget with fries, and a large queso. The Pollo Loco was good but hardly had ANY queso, we poured some of the side over the top to remedy that. Plenty of chicken and seasoned well. Tacos for our 7 year old were a hit.
