You could easily make an argument Belleflower is one of the best if not the best brewery in Portland and Maine in general. They nail the IPAs and all variations of them but also can do every other style very well too! In particular for this celebration of their 5th anniversary they released a fruited sour aged in barrels for around 5 years and a double dry-hopped DIPA and both are incredible well made beers! They almost always have a food truck option nearby including a fan favorite of mine, Ironclad Eats! Today they had Smokin Dads BBQ. If you are a beer lover living in or visiting the area you must visit Belleflower! You will have friendly staff welcoming you and will taste some world-class beers! Greeted by a hostess who happily provided us with out glasses and we were off. Multiple different breweries represented a believe there were 11 different booths to learn about each place's processes. Our favorite was Sea Hag, the representative was not behind a bar or table, he was there with us. Holding two pitchers of their delicious cider telling was about how they make their distinctive cider. He had my husband reminiscing about his childhood. The tea combinations make this Coder stand out. That just biting into an apple flavor, yum!

Barreled Souls Brewing is a craft brewery that opened in Saco, Maine in July 2014. It was founded…read moreby childhood friends Chris Schofield and Matthew Mills. The two met in elementary school and have been friends ever since. After turning 21, Schofield received a homebrewing kit from his father and started homebrewing. In 2003, he got a job working as the assistant brewer at Federal Jack's brewpub in Kennebunkport. Later, Schofield was hired as the lead brewing consultant for the design and development of the Railroad Seafood Station Restaurant and Brewpub. Meanwhile, Mills worked in the hospitality industry and managed a number of bars and restaurants. He developed a reputation for pairing food, wine, and beer selections with his customers' tastes, interests, and budgets. Mills even opened his own high-end retail wine company. Finally the two friends decided to collaborate and open their own brewery. They opened their modest brewery in the basement of a law office. Unlike other breweries, 100% of Barreled Souls' beer undergoes primary fermentation in oak barrels as opposed to stainless steel tanks. This fermentation system is based off of the Burton Union system, which was a method of fermenting beer developed in England in the 1800's. Although they have a relatively small operation, Barreled Souls has earned a reputation for producing some of the best beers in Maine. I visited Barreled Souls with my older son this summer while my I was spending the week in Maine with my family. Barreled Souls had been on my brewery bucket list for a while. I was surprised to see what a small operation they were, but that was fine with me as I usually prefer smaller breweries. I initially ordered a taster flight which featured "Purple Rain" (Fruited Sour), "No Clean Cups" (Double IPA), "The Mind Flayer" (Imperial Stout), and "Knob Creek Extended BA Nebula" (Bourbon Barrel-Aged Barleywine). Every single beer that I sampled was fantastic! The brewery also has their own food truck dubbed "Barreled Souls Burger". I enjoyed their delicious "Bold Brunch" (quarter pound patty topped w/ hash browns, bacon, cheddar cheese & a fried egg) while my son enjoyed the "Tachos" (loaded cheesy tots topped w/ taco beef, jalapeños, onions, black olives, served w/ sour cream & salsa). I was so impressed with the beer that I ordered a second flight that featured "Speakeasy Red Sangria" (Red Wine Barrel-Aged Gose), "The Pineapple Upside Down" (Triple New England IPA), "Vecna" (Imperial Fruited Sour), and "Banana Bread at Work Dude" (Bourbon Barrel-Aged Barleywine; collab w/ Abomination Brewing). I was equally impressed with these beers, and I love all of the "Stranger Things" references in the beer names. Before leaving, I purchased a bottle of "Strawberry Jam Stay Puft" (Imperial Stout) to take home. I had an excellent experience at Barreled Souls and I highly recommend them to all serious craft beer aficionados!

I started with old scratch, a chocolate chili imperial stout. This was my favorite of all of their beers and the chili was just a hint, not too much to overwhelm wonderful Coco and vanilla flavors. My wife started with Bellweather, just a light easy drinking lager. I also enjoyed the oatmeal stout, which was brewed with British molasses to give it a richer flavor than one might find in normal stouts. My wife also enjoyed light some a blueberry lemon weisse beer. It's a sour weed out with hints of blueberry and lemon. The hard soda was a good finish - refreshing and tasty - especially enjoyed the lemongrass, cardamom tangerine flavors, but I didn't think it was just a bit too sweet for my liking. The brewery donates a certain amount of profits to local charities, and their customers help choose them - they give each customer a chip, and you put it in one of two bottles for the months chosen charities, and then that determines the proportion each charity gets of the total to be donated - - - - pretty cool I definitely recommend the giant soft pretzel with the beer cheese, nice and hot and goes well with any of the beers The Italian sausage grinder was tasty and good, but I thought that the chicken Parmesan sub was not particularly great - some pretty average chicken tenders were used rather than finding really good chicken tenders or a grilled a chicken breast. Might be worth upgrading this to match the wonderful beers.

Besides lagers they also have a saloon style/aesthetic. The bartenders and owner are always friendly and extremely personable wanting to interact with patrons. Also another shoutout to the owner for working hard on social media (specifically tik tok) and being extremely real about the business and the struggles that come with it. This is a business that is a great community spot to meet with friends and despite being a brewery have other options than just beers. They are also often having events so keep an eye out for those. I enjoyed their first location but let's be real this space is more unique and larger! Been to this spot many a times including earlier today. They still have an industrial feel to the place but have so many plants all around to brighten the spot up. Staff is always so friendly and ready to pour your drink with a smile. Beer wise they have a large variety including IPAs, pale ales, lagers, and sours. Including a special release each year made for International Women's.For non-beer drinkers don't fret, you can find wine, ciders, seltzers, cocktails, and plenty of non-alcoholic options. They also offer some snacks and frequently have food trucks/carts serving as well. Since my initial review over 7 years ago I have likely visited Mast Landing OG location over 100…read moretimes. This was definitely one of the first breweries I frequented often. For a while I did not miss a single new release. While I may not come here as often I still would recommend it as a must visit brewery in Maine and one of the best in the greater Portland area. Their taproom has grown in size by a lot since my first review, as they have moved the brewing aspects elsewhere. They have also since opened two other locations, first in Freeport then in South Portland. Thankfully my favorite beer from them is still their flagship beer called Gunners Daughter. It's a low ABV (5.5%) peanut butter milk stout. Mind you despite being a peanut butter stout they do not use nuts so those who have those allergies can still have it. It's even more popular now that they have hosted special Gunners Daughter days with special variants released for years now. Including yesterday during our most recent visit here. They even released for the first time a Double Barrel Aged Version at 18% that tasted so good! They do a huge variety of style beers though with lots of IPAs available plus lagers, sours, stouts, porters, and more! Check this place out if you are a beer lover! They do also have options for those who are not beer lovers too though. Also they frequently have food trucks. Always had friendly service with a smile during every visit!

Signage is clear, handicapped access, with an industrial decor with artwork of forest animals. Two sitting areas in this tasting room, close to the pours and in the back section which offers games such as darts and cards. Close caption TVs as well. Electric stove with charger may sitting area amidst tables and chairs. Great selection of crafted beers for all kinds of tastes. I've been a Gunners fan since their inception so I went with the flight of Gunners Daughter; Nitro, Imperial, Fudge, and Pumpkin spice. Nitro is the original and even though the imperial cost a dollar more for the pour, it's still the best. The Imperial left no impression on me at all, not worth the up charge. The Fudge did have a heavy chocolate presence as did the pumpkin spice. Husband had the Champ American Lager which was lighter. He enjoyed two mugs worth.
