Had plans at a different restaurant, but they were busy so Sadako sounded good. Always in the mood for sushi! The rolls were huge and the veggie rolls were reasonably priced. Service was fine, but quite fast even during a dinner rush.

My favorite in Ann Arbor. The sushi is so good. Fish comes in on Mondays so Tuesdays are the best day to go. Great deal. Get soup and salad for free if you dine in and spend more than $12.

Still the best sushi lunch spot in Ann Arbor just on the edge of campus. Worth the trek from downtown to the other side of campus near Huron. Parking seems to always be available or only a small wait for a meter on the street, though it is a very busy street. Their fish is fresh, portions are generous. I love the ginger dressing they use for the salad. Soup and salad is included for dine in with the order of a lunch combo or two rolls. The spicy fish bowl or Su & Sa bento are my favorite. The bento has a great assortment of items. The bowl is mostly fresh and cold. Much healthier when in the market for a healthier I bring my sushi kids here. Nieces, nephew and granddaughters. They love it too though we try to only go on weekends, as it's not as busy on the weekends around lunch time.

This food was DELICIOUS! Both items are great choices and I would definitely get again. The staff was very friendly and willing to accommodate our walk in party of eight when they were super busy. Cute small restaurant downtown AA campus. Fair pricing too. If you spend over $12 you get complimentary salad and miso soup which were great!

Great value! You get a lot of food for the prices here. Sushi isn't necessarily the best (not the freshest fish), but it's still good and again, great value. Soft Shell Crab appetizer - Tasty (as deep fried things tend to be) but the tempura batter was maybe just a bit too thick. Enjoyed the crunch though and the dipping sauce. Chicken Katsu - This is basically two full Chicken Katsu dinners in one dish. Look at the photo haha. It's a lot of food! Yellowtail Scallion Roll - This was my favorite of the three rolls we tried. Simple but can't go wrong. U of M Roll - Good roll featuring salmon, crab salad, cucumber, and avocado. Passion Roll - Not really a big fan of this kind of tuna. It's a bit closer to the tuna you find on sushi from the grocery store. Easy to get a table on a Tuesday around 7pm, but it actually got busier towards 8pm. We parked down the street in the Forest parking structure (paid).

I think this is the best Sushi spot in Ann Arbor. The Portion sizes are large and the sushi is always fresh. I go approximately 3 times per month and have not been disappointed yet. I highly recommend Sadako!

Love Sadako, the owner is kind and professional. Food is, I mean you can't expect too much at Ann Arbor, but already amazing for the price. I always believe reviewing food should also considering multiple factors, we can't compare Japanese place in an American college town to those master owned place in Kyoto, it just doesn't make sense. Sadako is already amazing and it is one of my dining hall between classes.

Back when I was an underclassman several years ago (2015/2016), I used to come to this restaurant at least once a week. One of the waiters here know my "go-to" order, and he still knew it the last time I went in June 2021. I loved their lunch specials that were friendly pricing for college students. It is close to campus so it was always my go-to place for lunch after class if I was sick of eating dining hall food. Back then, you could get lunch specials for under $10 for some decent quality sushi, bento box, or whatever you prefer. Sadly, prices have gone up since then, but I think you can still get a lunch special for under $15. I stopped going to Sadako as much my upperclassman years because I honestly went there way too much in my earlier years. In my opinion, quality has also gone down a bit, but overall, probably still the "best" sushi restaurant. "Best" does not mean it's amazing - but the prices are still better than other competitors in the area, and their portion of fish to rice ratio is probably the best. One of my quips about this place is that the rice is way too acidic for me. I almost never finish the rice because the vinegar is too overwhelmingly strong. I also am not a big fan of the udon. I'm not sure why but there are peppers and broccoli in the udon and the broth is pretty tasteless. Maybe things have changed since I last got the udon, but I highly would not recommend. Other than that, I'd say my go-to sushi rolls here are definitely the spicy salmon roll, UofM roll, and UofM hand roll. They give you a lot of fish and it's pretty cheap! Maybe prices have increased, but the spicy salmon roll is only $4. Very worth! I think if you get three rolls, you will get complementary soup and salad. I love the sauce they use for their salad - probably my favorite thing here. Miso soup isn't great quality, but because I used to come here so often, I love it. Overall, the food is a 3/5 or 3.5/5, but because I spent so much money and time here during my years at Michigan, I give this restaurant a 4/5. I kid you not, I've probably eaten at Sadako around 100 times. Made a lot of memories with friends at this restaurant - lots of great conversations and meet ups here. A lot of nostalgia when looking back.

The quality of the food is still amazing and worth a visit, but there were some items I wish stayed on the menu. For example, the spicy salmon crispy rice is no longer available and only available in the tuna form. The portions are also smaller, now coming in three small bites rather than the two big bites from before. The gochujang rigatoni and kimchi paella are also unavailable. Some new dishes I tried and loved were the short rib and the grilled octopus. The octopus was incredibly tender and I couldn't stop eating it! It also comes with delicious potatoes. The short rib was a larger portion and also tasted delicious. The rest of my table ordered the miso cod. The miso cod was delicious, but the portion was quite small and arguably not worth its price compared to the short rib. Cocktails that I recommend are The Gatsby and The Promised Neverland if you like sweeter drinks! For the service, we felt a bit rushed as we were dining. Normally the drinks come out followed by the appetizers, but our appetizers came first and the drinks came with our mains. I think there was a missed opportunity to sip on our drinks and chat with our party as we enjoyed the restaurant's ambience. Otherwise, the food came quickly and was well served.

It was restaurant weekend in downtown Ann Arbor and we didn't have a reservation, so we obliged, although the space was pretty empty. Once we got to the bar, the young waitress slammed menus down in front of us and acted extremely annoyed by our presence. After bothering us every minute for the next 5 minutes to order, me and my friend put in our orders in haste. We then waited for 30 minutes for our meals to arrive. I got the "Amazing Shrimp" sushi roll and my friend got the "Grilled Angus Short Rib". As noted on the menu it comes with Mashed Potatoes, Shishito Peppers, and Garlic Chives. Per my friend's request, the order did not come with the Shishito Peppers or Garlic Chives, but it also didn't have the potatoes. After asking for the potatoes, our server went back and we could hear her yelling at the kitchen staff. Minutes later she came out with a bowl of 3 potatoes, not mashed and not hot. My roll was great and I'd definitely order again if I come back, but I'm honestly not too inclined to after this experience. Lastly, the restaurant itself was freezing. It was a cold day but it was way colder inside than it should've been. We ended up keeping our coats on for most of dinner. I really do want to like it here because the vibe seemed very modern and clean, however the service, food, and level of professionalism fell short of my expectations.

There have been some hit-or-misses with the quality of the fish but, I'm Japanese and, for me, "Japanese cuisine" is a lot more than raw fish and their kitchen (as opposed to the sushi bar) has always been reliable. Not so much anymore. :( I had dinner there recently on a Friday night. Ordered the tempura appetizer and 8-9 pieces of sushi a la carte. I asked the waitperson to make sure there was grated daikon for the tempura (I've had to ask before and the tempura was cold by the time they brought it, so I was planning ahead...) I was informed that not only do they not serve it with tempura, there's simply no daikon anywhere in the restaurant to grate. Seriously? First, how does a Japanese restaurant not have any daikon?? Second, if you serve tempura, this is a necessary condiment; it's akin to not having ketchup for a burger. I opted to have fried oysters instead and they were fine. The nigiri sushi I was served *looked* beautiful. Huge pieces of fish, nicely arranged. I'm not sure why Japanese restaurants here think "bigger is better" when it comes to sushi. Nigiri sushi is intended to be eaten in ONE comfortable bite instead of having to try to bite it in half only to have it disintegrate awkwardly all over the table. Why not offer two nigiri pieces per order that's reasonably (and correctly) sized? And then there's the sushi rice. I'm not convinced that the sushi chefs there understand that what makes it "sushi" isn't the fish (or the fancy rolls) -- it's the rice. Sushi rice is supposed to be flavored, while it's steaming hot, with a sugar-vinegar-salt mixture ("sushi su"), which is what keeps the rice moist and sticky in order to keep its shape, and also provide a foil for the fish. Whenever a sushi piece falls apart, it usually means (other than the fact that it's too big) that it's not properly seasoned. It should also never be cold. My simple meal plus a serving of sake, with tip came to almost $100. That's not unreasonably high for a Japanese sushi meal but I think I should be able to count on it being made correctly.

First, my overall impression of Godaiko is it seems like a nice place. The decor is pretty and the vibe seemed to be very chill. I am curious about how good the regular fare is. The sushi pushpops are only available to-go, and can only be ordered at a kiosk that is set up just inside the door - you almost walk into it. Thankfully my husband and I arrived a bit early, because a line quickly formed behind us that went out the door. The price is decent, considering you are getting a full sushi roll that is very filling. The flavor options are limited to five (5), and only one does not have egg product: three have mayo and Caesar Salad has egg in the dressing. For people who are allergic to eggs - like me - this is really not cool. My husband ordered the Spicy Tuna and the Fire Shrimp (the one I originally wanted). To my despair, my only option was the Philly Philly roll, which I hate. But because we drove 45 minutes to try the sushi pushpops, no way was I not going to get one! I have to admit that the seasoning on the rice gave a good flavor to the Philly Philly roll, so it wasn't complete torture... My husband enjoyed his rolls very much. The soy sauce comes in a narrow tube that doubles as the stick used to push up the sushi. It clips to the side of the carton. One has to be careful when pulling this out of the clip, because for some reason the tube opens at both ends and if you are a little heavy-handed you can end up with sauce on your pants! The Good: Innovative product that sets it apart from its competitors. Taste is good, and the packaging makes this easy to eat on the go. What Needs Improvement: 1). Put an allergy notification/warning about the egg; especially since it is not listed in the ingredients. Thankfully, my intuition told me to ask before I ordered.... 2). Add more flavors; especially egg-free options! A nice shrimp tempura or unagi roll would be good.... Or .. give the option to custom-make the roll so that the mayo can be omitted, giving those who are allergic to egg a chance to enjoy. . Perhaps allow the custom order to be made at the bar so as not to tie up the kiosk. 3). Maybe move the kiosk away from the door so that you're not walking right into it. On a busy day/night, I can see that line being a big annoyance for the customers coming to dine in. 4). Seal one end of the sauce tube. Not sure why both ends need to be opened. 5). Offer more sauce options (we were only given Soy).... 6). Label the tubes! Since the rolls are premade, and not labeled, the risk is high of mixing up the flavors - especially when it's busy. A discreet little label on the bottom of the tube would be fine. All-in-all, getting the sushi pushpops was a fun and novel experience. However, because of the limited flavor options that are heavily mayo'ed, I am rating this experience 3 stars.

We sat down and for 15 (5 for me waiting before and another 10 once my friends came) until I got upset and told them we haven't been seen. Someone came over finally. It wasn't a long wait for the food, but everything was lukewarm. We ordered the bang bang shrimp because I seen someone with it. I had a good flavor and I loved the fried onions/peppers they had mixed with it on the bottom. The burger was supposed to be cooked medium rare, but it was actually well done. They sell burgers, but do not have mustard or mayo for the burger. Only ketchup. Their fries they coat in tempura which is very different. They had no season on them. Add your own salt and pepper and they taste good. The salad dressing tasted like a hummus ginger or something odd. It wasn't good. The only part of the salad I enjoyed was the carrot in it. The lobster and shrimp stir fry would have been good if it was actually hot. The food cooled down so much that the fried part was actually really mushy and not crispy at all. The nigiri's were huge! The king crab meat was great, but they should check for shells better. The shrimp was huge. I enjoyed that the most out of everything. If they can fix their service and make sure your food comes out hot, they would get 5 stars for sure. I would come back. I heard their lunch menu is very different and it's good too. Also they sever the sushi pops here. It seemed people were lined up to get some. They looked interesting.
