Vacation dining is a tough call. After a long day in the sun, we wanted something quick, casual, and tasty. Plus, our sensory challenged family member only eats a few foods, won't go anywhere that smells like seafood, and can't handle too much noise. We tried Saddle Up Saloon for the first time tonight, and it was an excellent choice! For the kid, Kraft Mac & Cheese with fries that he totally demolished. For the adults, a lobster roll with hand cut, perfectly seasoned fries, and a country fried chicken plate. The chicken was crusted with potato chips and served on a huge portion of skin-on mashed potatoes with a creamy gravy and nicely steamed asparagus. Pepsi products and a nice selection of beers on tap, too. The desserts looked good but we were too full! The other plates we saw looked good, too. I can't wait to try the pizza! Amazing outdoor atmosphere, friendly staff, and yummy drinks. Wish they had Tiki torches or more citronella by the lake, but we came prepared with bug spray knowing we would be near water. My husband and I were looking for somewhere new to try for dinner and decided to give Saddle up Saloon a try. For an appetizer we got the Pizza dip. It wasn't bad - but I wouldn't say it was spectacular. Not much flavor and the chips were stale , but the bread it came with was good. I ordered the "Country Fried Chicken sandwich" which had NO description on the menu, but I figured it was pretty standard.. I asked the waitress what came in it and was told "Lettuce, Tomato and Mayo" - I asked if I could get no tomato , but asked to add cheese - that was fine though our waitress didn't know what kind of cheeses they had. My sandwich arrived and it's a chicken covered in potato chips. And not finely crushed - looked like it was rolled in the big broken pieces at the bottom of a bag. It was not overly appetizing looking at all. And That is not a traditional "country fried chicken" so you would think they would give a description. Also there was no lettuce or mayo - they added the cheese and topped it with some sort of gravy with little chunks in it. I was really disappointed, but decided to try it. The whole think tasted like oil/grease - it felt as though the chips acted like a sponge. The fries that it came with were way overdone. I like my fries well done but these were way overboard... and again tasted more like the oil they were cooked in than a potato. I ate almost half of the sandwich and a few fries before giving up. My husband got an Italian sausage burger that came with peppers and onions. He too said it tasted like grease and lacked any real flavor. And his fries were also way overdone. He ate most of his sandwich, but said it was nothing he would get again. Our bill was $41 and I have to say it felt like we totally threw that money away. The restaurant itself is nice- clean and the staff was ok - not overly attentive but not terrible - though they probably should learn what comes on a sandwich when asked. Went for the first time last night, 2/6/21. We sat in the bar. Shoulder to shoulder, noone was wearing masks. One bartender with a nosering stuck her thumb in her nostril to adjust it, and then took her drinks to serve to customers in the other room where the DJ was. The bartender with the long hair down to her waist, which was not tied back, was running her fingers thru it the entire half hour we were there finishing our drinks. As we were looking over the menu, that same bartender making a drink, slid her mask down to sneeze into the drink. She ran her fingers across her nose, adjusted her mask just above her upper lip and carried on making drinks, hands not sanitized, and in between coughing as if she were hacking up a lung. We left right after the third bartender with her lady parts falling out of her tank top came over to see if we wanted to order food. Um, no thanks. We went down the street to a much more hygienic friendly restaurant, where we felt safe knowing a side of germs wasn't included with our meal. read more

I hosted a surprise birthday for my husband at the Saddle Up Saloon last weekend, and I could not have asked for a better time! The function room is perfect, the food was great (we got the pizza buffet -- highly recommend it!), and the staff went above and beyond for us. So we drive by this place all the time and it's always busy so we were able to finally stop in to try it out! We were sat right away! I ordered the roasted chicken that comes with 2 sides so I asked to swap the potatoes with a small salad and there was a $2.00 up charge I mean really! The roasted chicken with asparagus was good! Wife ordered the ribeye steak that was $32.00 that came out 75% fat 25% steak meat. Very disappointing!!! She also was up charged $2.00 for swapping here potato with onion rings. Trip number 2 . Sometimes you go back for the place some time you go back for the people. This place has the perfect balance of both. I was pleased to meet one of the owners Joe. He was outstanding. The place was full of people,staff hustling to make sure everyone was taken care of and then Joe stopped by. He checked in to make sure everything was great. He already knew it was everything is great here. He gave us the right amount of attention to make us feel special without neglecting is duties. Great guy easy to talk to. I had to let him know about Brianna. She really is a ray of Florida sunshine on cold New Hampshire night. Brianna was quick witted and personable. She engaged our whole party with boundless enthusiasm and professionalism. Offering us her personal favorites off the menu and can't miss drink suggestions. I will definitely be back, it's just a matter of this week or next week. The fried chicken and gobbler she suggested each are game changers. Remember when a waitress from the south tells ya to get the fried chicken,you do it. Just like she said it was fantastic. Can wait for my next trip in. read more

Went a few weeks back and had an awful dinner and server. I ordered pulled pork sandwich, when I picked it up to take a bite the bottom bun was soaked and floppy. The server didn't do the customary 2 minute check and was nowhere to be seen. Finally flagged her down and asked for new roll, 13 minutes later it showed up, though it was toasted. The rest of my party had finished eating and my food was now cold., completely lost my appetite and just had a few bites. My daughter ordered beef tacos and only ate a few bites, she said they were disgusting. So these 2 entrees plus Mac and cheese and loaded tots with 2 sodas and a water cost me $80-+, server didn't even offer a replacement or refund. I really want to give the Saddle up Saloon more stars because the food is pretty good but the service is just bad. I've been here three times now. If you sit near the bar service is fast but if you sit in the side room near the pizza oven you are forgotten. I'm sitting here right now and friends at our table haven't gotten their ice tea and it's been at least a half hour since we ordered. A waitress brought out my buffalo chicken fingers and when questioned about our missing ice tea she started to walk away...we only ordered three brownie sundaes, a pizza and some buffalo fingers and it's a slow Tuesday night at 8:24 pm and still waiting for all our food. I really hope they get this straightened out because I like it. Update...went here recently again and the wait time for your food is no better. We did have a large party but most of us ordered salads and the place wasn't super busy. There was no silverware brought to the table until the meals arrived and they were two sets short. Instead of immediately going to the kitchen and coming back with silverware the waitress went off and waited on other tables. When she came back a few minutes later she didn't have silverware and when asked she said they were wrapping it and the woman in the kitchen wouldn't let her take it (Seriously???). We had a great meal. The buffalo chicken Rangoon's and Loaded Tater Tots were great appetizers. The Gobbler was the star of the show. What a great idea and it tastes amazing. The Cowboy Ribeye was pretty good. The Country Fried Chicken sandwich didn't come with gravy which was odd. The fries are really good. Our waitress was great and liked to joke around. Went to learn line dancing tonight. Paid my $10 and got Maybe 15 minutes of dancing lessons. Intermediate and advanced dancers blocking my view on the floor and not nearly not enough time for beginners. In the end I was taught two dances and only got to practice steps ONCE! Not the place to learn line dances - false advertising!! They advertise 1 hour of beginner lessons - started late ended early! People were nice but group there knows how to dance. In the end I did my own thing and had fun but I went with the intent of learning and well it fell way short! read more

We Went with our two children for the first time the other day and what a really cool place. The last time I went it was called Pondview. The renovations and the vibe is fantastic as soon as you walk through the door. My kids got a kids pizza and kids chicken fingers and both were awesome. I got the steak tip hoagie and my husband got the nachos with chili and they were to die for. We had gone for lunch and I jokingly said we got to come back for dinner. Our waiter was very attentive and our drinks were on point. Will most definitely be back ! I heard Friday nights are awesome there as well as bike nights so I'm definitely going to have to get a babysitter so my husband and I can do date night there. read more

I've been going to Saddle up for some time, usually sitting at the bar. Recently however, I suggested to other couples that we go there for dinner based on past experiences. First change, went with another couple...The booth we were seated at was in direct line of fire with the air conditioner. I might be different, but when I order hot food, I would like to eat it hot and in a comfortable atmosphere, otherwise I would be at Subway with a cold sandwich and bag of chips. When the Hostess was not available, we moved to another table nearby. She came by and politely informed us that we couldn't just move to another table. The place was practically EMPTY. Ok, not a problem. The next time which was recent, we, two couples were seated at the same booth with cold air blowing on my back. This time, I asked the Hostess if we could get a table closer to the front entrance and one which was vacant. She said we could move, but to a table five feet away. Again, the place was practically EMPTY. She told us to get our drinks and move to that table. Once again the arctic wind hit us. I asked the Hostess, explaining the problem, if we could move to a different table. She told us, it's this table or the booth we just left. Ok, I asked for our tab to which she replied "great" as if she were glad we were leaving. I paid the tab and we went to the Pasta Loft where we had a good meal, great service and a $177 tab. The evening turned out well and leaving Saddle UP was a good decision. So, if you don't want to serve Customers, I would suggest you close the doors and sell the place like the Pond View did. Maybe the next Owners will be more business savvy. I may be back to the bar, but no more dinners with friends.....too embarrassing. BTW, the cold air was a minor issue compared to the arrogant attitude of your Hostess. Have a good day. read more

Been by this place a few times. Decided to try it. Big mistake. Ordered dinner and waited. And waited. Waitress did not come to check on us, we had to flag her down after waiting 40 minutes. She said our food was "coming out any minute". 10 more minutes go by, manager checking on our food. An hour goes by, we get up to leave. Can't find our waitress...go out front and my husband told the manager we were leaving after waiting an hour. She made excuses that the kitchen was swamped. My husband said people that came in after us got their dinner. She didn't care. We had to stop somewhere on our way from dinner to actually get some dinner! What a disappointment! read more

I love Saddle Up Saloon. The food and drinks are always great. The wait staff and bartenders have always been friendly and hard working. However, I have been here many times and every single time I am there the hostess is so rude. I was standing in line, in front of a couple other groups waiting for her to seat us, she completely ignored us and walked away. When she finally came back she looked right past me at the group behind mine and sat them even though I was there first and she knew it. She is very snippy with people. She has yelled at the wait staff in front of customers, myself included, on multiple occasions. As a hostess, she is the first thing people experience upon walking into the restaurant. When the hostess is rude and snippy, it makes for a very uncomfortable experience, especially when I am there spending a good amount of money. I don't even want to go back anymore because as much as I enjoy the atmosphere and the food and drinks, she makes me so uncomfortable, I would rather drive further and go somewhere where the staff appreciates the customers. read more

I did not see a single patron or a single staff person wearing a mask. I was in the pizza oven area to pick up my food. None of the cooks were wearing masks. This is not my first bad experience at SUS but I like to give places a 2nd chance since we all have bad days. Also, this is 1 of 3 restaurants in Kingston that have outdoor seating due to the current health crisis. There was 5 of us, my wife and I ordered a pizza to share and mozzarella sticks to share with the group as an appetizer, the other 3 ordered sandwiches. The 3 sandwiches came out with the appetizer (very watery and flavorless marinara sauce) and we were told our pizza would be out in a few mins. 1 person requested fries instead of coleslaw with their sandwich. They received coleslaw with a hair in it (didnt see hair till later, since I was only going to eat it due to pizza taking 25 minutes to come out). Tens minutes went by and the sanwiches were gone along with the app. Still no pizza, around this time our waitress stopped by to comment on the kitchen being backed up but the pizza should be right out. She never removed the pile of dirty plates or refill our empty drinks. 15 mins passed and the host brought out the pizza. We asked for it too be boxed since we had to wait so long and the other 3 had finished eating 25 mins ago. A young man brought us the boxed pizza and explained that they have 2 different kitchens so the waitress shouldve told us and we should understand that, he took the pizza off the bill. I didnt know that customers were at fault because they order different things off the same menu and expect it all to arrive at the same time. Same man brought us the bill with an attitude. Pizza tasted like a salt lick on cardboard with some ingredients thrown on at end. I dont believe it was the pizza that we ordered due to different ingredients but it looks like they added ingredients from the pizza we wanted to an already made pizza since they were behind, very gross and bad taste. Poor service, bad food and ambiance wasnt great. Unless you are a biker (they seem to cater to bikers in large groups) or drink alcohol with your food so you dont care about quailty because your drunk, Id aviod this place. They werent policing the social distancing requirements very well either. I will not return! read more

Went here on a saturday night. Plenty of open tables to look at while we were quoted a 30 minute wait because 'several of the waitstaff called out sick.' We ordered potato skins which were good, but the chicken sandwich that came afterwards was awful. Thin-patted chicken that had an appearance (and taste) of being cooked hours beforehand and just re-heated for me. Other tables around us were sending food back for 'cold macaroni and cheese' which is a dinner side that they offer. Another table asked to speak with the manager due to slow service. We will not be back. Its unfortunate, because we had high hopes. I was really looking forward to something good and something different. Went for lunch a few weeks ago, on a Saturday. The renovations are beautiful! Lovely view of the lake, clean and new inside. My burger was super tasty, too, and the service was very friendly, if inexperienced. Seated promptly, nice table overlooking the lake, near the fireplace, all good. Young waitress took the order fine, drinks delivered in a reasonable amount of time. Other people delivered the food, and the order was correct - but then it fell apart. No one checked that we were happy. If the waitress had come back after a few bites, we'd have let her know that the drinks were WAY too strong; as in, I drank half of mine and couldn't see to drive. Too much liquor to be tasty and refreshing, too, so hopefully they'll get a new mixologist who knows what they're doing. My husband wanted to order more fries because mine were so good. Luckily he had ordered gravy on the side of his chicken fried steak. While the steak was yummy, the gravy had fake smoke flavor. She did come back eventually, surprised that our food was delivered (um?). We ordered more fries and some sodas, and the bill came at a good time. Definitely will be back again when the weather stays nice, and hope Saddle Up works out the kinks before then. Just a little ways to go to be a favorite place. read more

I would not recommend eating here after my experience tonight. Was seated by a host and no wait staff came over to greet us after 15 minutes. We caught the attention of a server who was in another zone but offered to take us. He was friendly but understood we were annoyed that the waitresses in our area disregarded us. Not sure why but it was hurtful because we felt like they didn't want to serve us. Extra star for the cute and sweet young man who took us. Food was mediocre at best and I am actually regretting ordering food because I am nauseous and sick to my stomach as I write this. Today was the second time that I went to the restaurant with my family. The first time was on a Sunday for dinner. My son has a chicken bacon ranch pizza, I had a Cobb salad & my husband had a burger. All were very good, the pizza was excellent. Today, my son & I went for lunch. We arrived around 12:30, were greeted and sat immediately. The restaurant was not very busy, maybe 6 or 7 tables full with at least 3 servers & a bartender. We placed our order after getting our drinks, and after waiting 25 minutes, our food finally arrived. The food was good, I had a Cobb salad with chicken, and my son had the steak tips, with mashed potatoes & green beans. The salad was $14 - which was reasonable, but the steak tips was ridiculously priced - three medium sized tips with mashed potatoes & green beans for $21! When the meal arrived, I just assumed it was the lunch sized portion & the price would reflect this, but sadly, it was not. I was also disappointed in how long our food took to come out of the kitchen. The chef was able to come into the restaurant & walk around, maybe if he spent more time in the kitchen the food would come to customers quicker. Don't have a single bad thing to say. Our waitress was attentive but not overbearing. The bartender, there was only one on, on a Saturday at 7pm, was very quick and was working her butt off! The drinks came out quickly and were delicious. The Shipyard Pumpkinhead had a caramel, cinnamon sugar rim. I highly recommend the Wildfire. As far as food goes, the pork chop is without a doubt the best one I've ever had. My boyfriend's brisket was delicious. Honestly just an overall great meal from start to finish. read more

Several people walked by but but no one made eye contact.... Today we tried again thinking that maybe it was just and off chance about the service. We sat at the bar better servers. My husband & I were famished after attending a 50th b-day party the previous night. No breakfast, just some coffee earlier. We were unfamiliar with the area; I found SUS thru Yelp. Since it was just after 11am, we were 1 of the 1st diners of the day. Huge restaurant & bar area. We sat window side with a beautiful view of an active pond. Sweetened iced tea was just right; hubby got freshly brewed coffee, which he enjoyed. No apps today, we went right for our meals! Josh got a traditional cheeseburger with the usual fixings & a choice of cheeses is offered. Both of us ordered our burgers cooked medium; burgers served cooked perfectly & a "true" medium. That may seem like a silly thing to comment on but many establishments have great difficulty with cooking a burger as requested. Not a problem here! Burgers are served with seasoned potato wedges that were crispy & tasty; a much welcomed change to the boring, typical French Fry. I ordered something I had never tried before: it's called the Black & Blue burger( I'm pretty sure that's what it was called). The burger is served with blue cheese & this AMAZING blueberry jam that appeared to be homemade. What a delicious combination! The sweet of the blueberry jam cut thru the saltiness of the blue cheese to create a mouth flavor out of this world! I will be trying to recreate this combo at home! Portions plentiful; we both finished our burgers, out of sheer gluttony! We were stuffed! I apologize for no food photos- we went for it the second our plates were put in front of us! We had a lovely waitress who was very attentive & friendly. We left approximately 12:15pm & the SUS was filling up fast! I don't usually post restroom photos but I felt I had to share how chic the ladies room is, SPOTLESS & the numerous stalls which I'm sure are needed in the evenings when the SUS is full & rocking out! You will also see the dance floor area, where line dancing & other fun activities occur. I would return to the SUS anytime when I'm in the Kingston area!
