Came here for breakfast on a recent trip to NYC. Was about half hour walk from our hotel in Midtown. We were able to make a reservation for 9 at 9am. Most people ordered the everything bagel with fish (house salmon, smoked Scottish, sturgeon) while others chose other breakfast dishes (healthy egg sandwich, salmon Benedict, French toast). The consensus was that the smoked Scottish was the favorite with the sturgeon being the least liked. I had the healthy egg sandwich and it was a large portion. An aunt ordered the French toast and was impressed with the thickness of the bread and was satisfied. We also ordered a serving of the sticky buns to share. They were standard sticky buns. Service was fantastic with our dishes coming out shortly after ordering, coffee being asked for refills, etc. A good experience overall. read more

I ate at Sadelle's approximately two days after I ate at Russ & Daughters. I think this is what I did wrong because for me it did not measure up. I ordered the Sable tower with a Salt & Pepper bagel and a cup of hot tea. The tower came with 3 very small slices of sable and what I thought was an insanely huge amount of sliced tomato and cucumber, neither of which I like. It was filler. I did eat the capers and sprigs of fresh dill. The sable was delicious I just felt like the fish portion was sparse and the bagel was tiny by New York standards. The bagels were a serious disappointment. They are nothing like the classic NY bagel that people come to the city for - they are small and not dense at all. So depressing. The bright side - The NY Times names their sticky bun as the best in the city, and boy does it live up to it!!! My friend and I went here today for our 2:45 reservation. I got there at 2:40 and the hostess was so incredibly rude and told me I had to know exactly what my friend and I were ordering before we sit down because the kitchen was about to close. I told her I was going to wait the 5 minutes for my friend to get there (we weren't even seated yet). Then we sit down and we get handed a menu with 5 items on it. I ask to see the actual menu and the waiter told me they're kitchen is closing so this is their limited menu and we missed the actual menu by 30 minutes. When I told him no where on their website does it say this he said "yea, I know, we're going through some changes". The table next to us was seated 5 minutes prior to us and they were given the actual menu. Because of every part of how this whole situation went down I will not be going back. read more

It was disappointing that their cups smell like eggs. It was grotesque to drink water here and worse that even when we got the cups replaced they smelled worse. Are they washing their dishes here? Yes of course. Are they using enough detergent or cleaning their washing machine periodically? Probably not. I expect more from a place that charges as much as they do. Sadelle's located in Soho is definitely a bit of a "treat-yourself" brunch moment for me. I went with my friend to celebrate an upcoming birthday; he told me had to make the reservation quite a while in advance! We ordered the French Toast and the Smoked Scottish with Poppy and Everything bagels. Starting with the Bagel Sandwich, I love the presentation of the ingredients with everything on the stacked plate tower. I had so much fun putting all the ingredients on my bagel. I found the bagels to be delicious but nothing special. It tasted like it was supposed to taste and was nothing that surprised me. I remember really enjoying the chive cream cheese, the capers, and the everything bagel in particular! Then the French toast... this was so yummy! It was more like bread pudding with two massive slices of toast that were deep fried. It was slightly unappetizing to see the oil coming out of the toast but it was very delicious. The toast had a crunchy hard exterior but upon biting/cutting into the dish, it was very soft and pudding like. I really like the contrast of the textures. It was also served with a very fresh raspberry jelly and syrup. It was a very sweet and heavy dish but also not bad to have once in a while! They say the sticky buns are life changing and I'd have to agree. They're THAT good! If you go to Sadelle's these are a must try. Apart from that I shared the house salmon dish with a friend and an order of that + the sticky buns were enough to satisfy us with leftovers to take home! Overall although it is a little tight on space it's definitely worth a visit to. Also as a side note - this place is very instagrammable. Like, their food is just downright photogenic. Ambiance is nice. Would not recommend the French toast unless you're okay with eating soggy bread. The middle is soaked with the mixture and doesn't get cooked. Fairly expensive, but great for the quality that you get. My friend and I stopped in for brunch/lunch on a weekday because she raved about the babka cake. And she was right. I try not to go to the same place when I come to a Cory not my own but every time I come to NYC I have to come here at least once!!!! If you dine in they set a beautiful casual table. They're known for their lox (smoked/cured and hand sliced onsite) which is served in a tower with all the accompaniments (onion, tomato, capers, cucumbers...) and homemade bagels but everything here is spot on! Sadelles is a "Disneyland" type restaurant. Completely on theme with the upscale Jewish deli vibe; all waiters wear the white coats butchers wear. Its located on a busy street in Soho and is expensive. People come here decked to the nines in designer clothes as well. My sister and I both got the classic Sadelles House Salmon which comes with deliciously seasoned cucumbers, tomatoes and capers. For $23 for a bagel, the bagels were pretty small and the salmon was sliced VERY THIN. They offer everything, everything plus, poppy, sesame, cinnamon raisin and plain bagels. Where to begin? This place came highly recommended by a coworker as a "typical Jewish brunch" joint. We were in the city for a sisters weekend. Let me tell you. It was everything and then some. We made reservations which also was recommended. We were lucky to snag a 10:45 on a Sunday. SO. LUCKY. The wait was long without reservations. With large light fixtures, high ceilings, candlesticks, and waiters walking around with traditional hats on; you are immediately taken back and feel as though you're in this gatsby-esque room. At the front a chef is there slicing fresh lox. It was right, don't get me wrong. We were seated upstairs in a corner booth practically on top of other people. But that doesn't matter. Everything made up for it. There were 4 of us. Here's what we ordered: First, the bloody Mary's. Holy Jesus. We made it with the horseradish infused vodka. Hands down the best blood mary I've ever had. Accompanied with a green olive, red pepper, celery, green tomato, and yellow pepper. It was the best thing ever. Food (heads up the waiter said we ordered like champs): Tower with house lox, 2 egg salads, side of pickles, side of bacon. The tower comes with a plate of tomato, cucumbers, and capers as well as 2 scallion cream cheeses and a regular cream cheese. The bagels are also made IN HOUSE TO ORDER. They came piping hot. We got the everything. (The everything 2.0 is different. Those bagels have caraway seeds and fennel). I totally appreciated that they had bagels without those seeds because I hate them. And then. For dessert. We had an order of their famous French toast. Each order comes with 2 THICK slices of challah. How do they make it? Let me tell you: they soak challah over night in milk and vanilla bean. Then, in the morning, they PUMP it with CUSTARD! WHAT!!?? It was crispy on top, super soft and moist inside. It was incredible. Comes with syrup and delicious raspberry jam. It was EVERYTHING. You really are doing yourself an injustice if you don't order it. And then, of course, we had to get a chocolate babka to go and bring Home for tonight. At $20 a loaf, I hear it's absolutely worth it. Was it pricey? Hell yes. Was it worth it? Hell yes. Despite being quoted for an hour wait, my best friend and I only waited 30 minutes earlier today around 1130am. It was definitely busy and obviously trendy, but I actually was impressed by the food. Sadelle's is adorable inside. I went on Saturday with a friend for brunch. We were squeezed into a table that was not near any other tables and was behind the waitstaff station. Service was spotty. Service aside, the food was really great. I loved the salmon platter. The salt and pepper bagel was perfect with the salmon and accompaniments. We also ordered the french toast to share. This was hands down the best french toast I've ever had. The inside was the consistency of bread pudding and the outside was delightfully crisp. Amazing! I was graciously invited to give Sadelle's another chance. Initially I was a little on the fence but am very glad I went again as everything was perfect. I had a true 5 star experience here the second time around. Firstly, the food was impeccable as it usually is. We had the smoked Scottish salmon, whitefish, eggs and caviar, and French toast. The Scottish salmon was delicious as always. I actually think that I preferred the sable to the whitefish though. The eggs and caviar were light and buttery with the caviar giving it a nice salty kick. But the real star of the meal was the French toast - airy and sweet. It tasted like melty bread pudding in the middle which is one of my favorite things in the world. I actually don't really like French toast but Sadelle's is beyond that. A must order! Also topped off the meal with a piece of their babka - almost more chocolate than bread, and just how I like it. Our server was very pleasant this time around and the food came out promptly. I think it helped coming at a later time in the day when the restaurant is less crowded. I waited almost 2 weeks before posting this review but upon reflection and deep thought about my experience here I really felt the need to make this post. I had a dear friend visiting me from Florida. We were shopping in Soho and decided we would stop somewhere and grab some lunch and a nice glass of wine. Random guy on the street saw was looking at the menu of this restaurant and said that he highly suggested it. When a real New Yorker gives you a thumbs up it's highly suggest you take them up on their recommendation. We decided to go in and eat. This restaurant is absolutely chic and lovely inside. Apparently they are known for their smoked salmon and they also have some great baked goods such as their sticky buns. My friend and I ordered grilled cheese and tomato basil soup. We each got a glass of wine. Our waiter was there to take the order. He brought out our wine and some water for the table. Then he disappeared. We looked around for about 15 minutes trying to flag someone down to find our server. After almost 30 minutes went by we stopped a woman who appeared to be a server as well. She said 'I am your server now so-and-so left for the day'. We were like 'WTF', why didn't either of these servers introduce themselves OR say they had our table?? They brought our soup out and we kept asking for sandwiches. This waitress was extremely snobby and seemed annoyed anytime we asked for anything. She finally brought our food out. She then walked away. We flagged her down and said we would like to get one more glass of wine and we are going to split it. So she came out and split a glass of wine for us. Then without anything else she simply brought the check out and set it on the table. Never said can I bring you coffee? Would you like to try our sticky buns? Can I bring you anything else? Not even a thank you. Upon review of the bill she had charged us for four glasses of wine and we could not find her to have her correct it. At this point I'll be honest we were just simply frustrated by the whole experience. I won't name this person but her first name began with an 'I', restaurant management will know who I am referencing. She then became very defensive with my out-of-town guest at the table. My guest spoke to the manager and the manager was lovely. She apologized profusely and offered to adjust the bill but we had already paid and needed to go. So she brought out a box of sticky buns as a kind gesture to right the wrong of our server.The chef also came out to the table to tell us about the sticky buns. Now that is excellent customer service. I will say the food in this place was fabulous. The management was very attentive and very concerned that we not have a bad experience so I can thank them for that. As stated in many of my previous reviews though all it takes is that one person in the service industry to ruin your experience and or your day. I rarely see this friend of mine from Florida and we were really looking forward to a fun little time in the city that day. By the time we left we just felt beaten down, ignored and kind of had an attitude like why us?! I would love to have given a better rating to this restaurant overall because of the beautiful decor, the management support at the end of our experience in the food but those things all seem to fly out the window when you have a bad experience overall. Let me just end this by saying I do recommend that you go try the food here because it is good and it's a snappy little place. But heed my warning of 'Buyer Beware' because the servers seemed to be way off their game, we had two people not just one who created a negative experience for us. We spent probably close to $150 for lunch for two people including the tip so no small change here. You shouldn't have to go to management to get good customer service. I work in an industry where if we fail at customer service our clients 'Vote With their Feet', if you know what I mean. read more
