The "fresh orange juice" for breakfast very much seems like it comes out of a carton.

One of the most exciting new restaurants in NYC, full stop. Some of the complaints here like orange juice, checks, seats...c'mon man! Listen to me, don't listen to me, I really don't care. That said I've dined at 75% of every new, top, hot, whatever restaurants in NYC and these guys are doing a really outstanding job. Plus, for this particular dinner I was with French dinner guests who are...well...French. So they know their way around good food. The menu is not overly large and oriented toward fine dining. Think 4 options for starters, as well as 1st and 2nd courses. There are more main courses to select from. Dishes like Red Snapper Veronique, Bluefin Crudo, Squash blossoms, Halibut with Sauce Cresson, Scallops Special, etc. all stood out. Nothing was poorly executed. The space is extremely well-appointed - envision rich textures, lush materials, incredible hand-feel, plush chairs, etc. And to specifically punctuate the chair point - if you know anything about restaurants you know these are 2+ hour chairs. The bar is spectacular. The room itself has been very intentionally designed and in some ways reminds me of LexYard in the Waldorf - that recently underwent a $2B rennovation (the hotel). Cafe Carmellini looks like a high end NYC restaurant. I wouldn't say opulent because I don't think that is what they are going for, but certainly elevated bistro with the pulse of NYC. Happy to get an RSVP at this lovely establishment! Dropped off in the front that I assumed was closed, so I walked around the building into the hotel portion? Directed to this side of the restaurant, only to be back where I started lol. Greeted by Tim with smiles, sophistication, and elegance. I knew at that moment, this brunch was going to be an amazing experience. Watched staff move chairs and dishes like a symphony. Everyone seemed to be on the same page with little words. Our waiters @ waitresses took their time to explain the options at this venue. Settle on the caviar tower and OMG.... Probably one of the best appetizers I've had in a long time. Nice champagne tasting before ordering our main choices. Live music radiates across the room from The upper deck. Perfect sound levels as it allows everyone to enjoy their private conversations. Came here for brunch with a group of friends. I have probably passed by this restaurant many times and just never noticed it. When you walk inside it is absolutely gorgeous with the cool chandelier lighting fixtures and the bar area. This is a 2 level restaurant. We sat in the downstairs area. If I ever come here again I would like to see how it is sitting upstairs as I am reading reviews that seems to be the way to go. There was a live jazz performer singing while we were eating. She was very good but it was a bit loud. For what I ate here for brunch. So the brunch menu is a prix fixed menu, Two Course Menu which is $75pp. It comes with a nice plate of fruit and some bread for the table. Having alot of food allergies like myself it was a bit hard to find something I could eat. I did end up getting some avocado and eggs with roasted peppers without the pastry part at the bottom. Yes it was good but for the price I paid maybe not worth it really. I asked if they had a side of bacon but they don't do sides of bacon for brunch (which is a bit odd if you ask me). The service was a bit slow especially with getting our drinks. I had a mimosa which was fine. Would I come back here for brunch probably not, it was nice to try it out though. All around fantastic evening at Cafe Carmellini. The ambiance is classy, dark and sexy, high ceilings, with plenty of space between tables. The service was also impeccable, one of the best of any fine dining restaurant I've been to. Attentive but not overbearing, and just very personable and knowledgeable. We stopped in before heading to a broadway show and they were able to accommodate the timing without feeling rushed. To top it all off, the food was sooo good, with some unique versions of French dishes, beautifully plated with just enough flair. We ordered the Crab & Meyer Lemon Mille-Feuille, Seafood Squid Ink Risotto special, Black Bass, Squab en croute, and Apple Caramel Soufflé. Even the complimentary bread, including the housemaid focaccia was insane, I asked for another basket. The Crab was delicate, but a bit difficult to eat as constructed. The seafood risotto is a must get if it's on the menu, scallops, uni, prawns, octopus wowwww, perfectly cooked fresh seafood, beautiful sauce, and creamy rice. The Squab en croute is also a wonderful dish, squab cooked perfectly and the foie gras, berry sauce, and puff pastry were a a perfect complement. Black bass was nice, but not a must. The desserts are also very good, our waitress even threw in a complimentary Sorbet which was a nice palate cleanser. I've been here so many times but never for Champagne Brunch. It was the perfect place to bring my ex pat friends I met while living in HK. They were wowed by the venue . Despite having gone here in the past , everytime I walk in , I'm mesmerize by the decor , ambiance , etc . The prix fix was worth every penny . I couldn't decide what to eat as there were so many great choices ( surprising as I'm not a big brunch person and can't justify paying $$$ for bfast times ). This time it's different as the dishes are elevated . I had the egg salad caviar katsu , while two of my friends got the salmon Benedict's ( they cure their own salmon and bake the biscuit in house ). The pastries were delectable, fruits were super sweet . The service was excellent with our friendly and knowledgeable waitstaff who helped me solidify my entree choice . If you want good seating call ahead and make a reservation. Hubby took me here first my bday brunch. Super cute. Love the chandeliers and decor. The staff is amazing and super attentive as you might expect at an establishment like this. They have a set brunch menu you can choose from and comes with 1 glass of champagne. We also ordered the caviar (which costed more than the brunch for 2 I might add) BUT it was worth it!!!! BEST caviar I've had and the mini potato things (idk what they are even called) just melted in your mouth!!! I'm so sad so say that the brunch food was just mid. I celebrated my birthday at Cafe Carmellini, and we just can't stop raving about it! My party of 9 opted for the champagne brunch - $65 2 course meal. The first course consist of pastries and fruit. There is a caviar supplement you can add on for an additional cost. Contrary to the name, the "champagne brunch" doesn't doesn't include the champagne, you would have to order separately. Second course you can choose between a variety of amazing dishes - every dish was so beautiful and well thought out. My favorite was the smoked egg salad & caviar katsu -- their take on an elevated japanese egg sando. The lobster frittata and steak & eggs were delicious as well. There are so many things on the menu that I would come back for! Drinks were amazing! They really go above and beyond with the taste, quality and presentation here. Cafe Carmellini is a great spot for a special occasion or just when you're feeling fancy and want to eat well. For me, the experience was a 3.5 stars rounded up. While the elegant ambiance of the dining room (the chandeliers! the trees!) is hard to beat, and much of the food is impressive or even wows, the bar is inarguably set higher due to the price tag of your night out here. One spring 2026 note that might be helpful: the duck-duck-duck tortellini is not currently on the menu. I've seen this dish mentioned a lot online and in reviews, so I thought this recent change was notable. Food: -Complimentary bread: served in two ways: long, super-thin, ultra-crunchy sticks and warm, fluffy sesame brioche. Served with an uber creamy salted butter. They'll ask if you want a refill, and it'll be hard to say no. -Oysters à la pomme: A delicious and unique take on oysters! Lots of contrasting textures and flavors-- the briny fleshy oyster bumping up against the cooling tart-sweet apple sorbet. -Crab and Meyer lemon Mille-Feuille: the crab was fresh and nicely complemented by the lemon sauce and fresh herbs, but this didn't totally blow me away. The sauce was a little thin and a slightly creamier sauce could've been nice. -Squab en croute: This was very good; just not quite sure it lives up to its pricey price tag. Umami-rich foie gras hugs the fleshy meat of the pigeon, all encased by a flaky crust. But the huckleberry spiced compote really saves this dish from being a little too intense and meaty. -Chocolate-Pear Mille Feuille, Candied Ginger: More Mille! possibly my favorite thing from the whole meal. The dark chocolate pieces were so good along with the pear and warm ginger tones. -Exotic Fruit Pavlova, Coconut Sorbetto: Our server very kindly gifted us this second dessert to pair with my glass of Gewürztraminer dessert wine. The fruit was so delicious, but we were really full by this point so probably didn't appreciate this dish enough. The super nice sommelier (all of the staff were great) helped us navigate the comprehensive wine list to find a reasonably priced German dry GG Riesling that had a lot of minerals, citrus, and green apple, but a little extra body. This worked well across the whole meal, from the seafood to the heartier mains. read more

Stumbled into this place waiting for a portrait bar reservation, and I will be coming back here often. This place is top notch service. From the Manager, Iliana, who sat me at the bar as I waited for my date, to the bartenders which took care of us, brought us these incredible breadsticks that taste like a gourmet cheez it, seriously this place had 10/10 service and made the experience. Woah, blown away by how pretty this restaurant is. It's inside the famous 5th Avenue hotel (2 Michelin keys). Honestly came here just for its beauty and had zero expectations of the food, but was pleasantly surprised by how good the food is. Overall a great experience at Cafe Carmellini. We had a group dinner of 6 persons and got a nice table on the 2nd floor overlooking the entire dining room. This is a beautiful space ! With high ceilings and a lot of greenery aligned throughout the dining room. First the wine list! Wow one of the most extensive wine lists I've seen! With over 100 pages from Italian Chianti, to French Chablis and everything in between! I opted for a nice bottle of Chianti as I know our table generally likes this option. For our dinner, we ordered everything to share! We got for apps, the oysters (which we were able to add 2 more as it only came with 4), tuna crudo and the crab Millefeuille. I was not a fan of the oyster, had this ice drop on it. Not a fan. The tuna crudo was good. And the crab millefeuille, it was very similar to something I've already had from another French chef. And for our mains we got the risotto Nero with seafood, squab, sea bass. My fav was the risotto seafood and the squab had actual fresh foie gras poêlé style. And for dessert we had the soufflé and the millefeuille desert. And since we were celebrating a birthday they added a chocolate moose cake! Totally wowed by the food and ambience. One of the best meals in NYC, and we dined at several 1-2 Michelin Stars restaurants on this trip. Several crave worthy food that didn't break the bank. Location: Near Gramercy, on 5th Ave. Ambience: Posh elegance with a lot of old world charm, in an older building with a lot of character. Spacious, elegant but still cozy. The walkway to the bathroom had some funky vibe. Service: Impeccable service, attentive without being overbearing. Food came up perfectly timed. Food: Some of the best Italian food we've had. Evolved interpretations made the food feel lighter but without sacrificing flavor. Entree portion sizes were also very generous. All the desserts were also on point. The sticky toffee pudding was showy. There really were no misses on menu, but if there was one dish that I liked less, it was the sardines, prep was a little too fussy for me. The standouts: Duck en croute with foie was simply wow. The lamb agnolotti with truffle was fab and the meat ragu on the tortellini was amazing. Everything was perfect. Exceptional food for the price, did not break the bank. À la cart menu makes this a great spot if you want a quick meal. I had the pleasure to dine at this beautiful restaurant by Andrew Carmellini recently. Yes, this is going to be a splurge for most people but I think the experience is overall worth it. Everything from the dining room to the service makes you feel special and luxurious. However, the most important thing is obviously the food, and I am happy to report that everything I tried was quite good. The dishes were all well seasoned and technically well prepared. Some of my favorites included the bluefin tuna crudo, duck-duck-duck tortellini, and squab en croute. The soufflé I had for dessert was also great. I know some commented that portion sizes tend to be small but I thought everything was appropriate. I do understand some of the hesitation given the price. For instance, the tuna crudo I had as a starter was $45. However, to my surprise, there was a generous portion of uni layered on top of the fresh tuna which I think justified the cost. My entree (squab en croute) was $74 but I understand the price when thinking about the technical precision required to make this delicate dish. Overall, I would definitely recommend this restaurant, especially for a special occasion. While in NYC for the week, my wife and I dined at Café Carmellini, and what a wonderful experience it was. I had booked a month in advance with high hopes, and it did not disappoint. We started with cocktails, a couple of martinis, and the Oysters à la Pomme on the half shell... absolutely fantastic. The Crab & Meyer Lemon Mille-Feuille was off-the-hook great, a complete surprise in the best way. I wasn't sure what it was at first, but our waiter, who was excellent, helped guide us. He made the evening even more enjoyable, and we had fun playing up my "novice" role in such a high-brow restaurant as we celebrated each dish. The entire waitstaff was fantastic. Yes, it's pricey, but this is NYC, where even a burger at Shake Shack might require financing options. For entrees, my wife had the Atlantic Halibut, Sauce Cresson, which was excellent, while I ordered the Roasted Veal ai Fungi. It was hands-down the best veal I've ever had, and I order this dish often. We ended on a high note with the Summer Peach Souffle paired with almond gelato. It was incredible. Honestly, I want to fly back to NYC next week just to eat here again. The interior is just as memorable: full-sized trees indoors, romantic booths, warm and beautiful lighting. It's all so stunning. I was delighted to dine at Café Carmellini this past weekend! My friend lives in the neighborhood and had met Robert, our gracious host, who invited her to give the restaurant a try to see how they could accommodate her vegan and gluten-free dietary restrictions. And they delivered! Loved the hospitality from Robert, who greeted us at the door. The private balcony seating was awesome, with an overlook to the entire restaurant and a partial view of the open kitchen. While we had to request the balcony again at the restaurant after having submitted that request online, they were happy to accommodate. I started with a modified version of the endive salad--more of a green salad at my request because I find endive to be so bitter. It was a refreshing start to the meal. The rabbit cacciatore was fabulously rich and tender, and my friend's vegan risotto was also bursting with flavor. Rabbit can often come out a bit stringy, but that wasn't the case here. I appreciated the ability to do a tasting of two wines to decide what to pair with the rabbit. Giving a special shout out to the risotto because risotto too often has the texture of mush, but this held up nicely. According to our captain/server, Jake, the risotto has a lot of different seasonal spins on it, which is why it is listed at Market Price rather than a static price. My favorite dish was the Citrus Chiffon Cake with Blood Orange Sorbetto. Chef's kiss! It was bursting with flavor and the blood orange was there but not overly noticeable. I found it to be a well-balanced dessert. We thoroughly enjoyed the service throughout the night. We had a lot of questions about the menu and found the staff very willing to make accommodations and clarify which dishes had certain ingredients that did not fit our dietary restrictions. Shout out to Chef Julianna, who made several custom cocktails for my friend based on general guidance. I love it when bartenders can run with high-level inspiration and create somethign fun! Café Carmellini delivered the best service experience I've had in a while and has restored my faith in fine dining after several disastrous Michelin star dining experiences in Manhattan. Jake was informative and funny and we loved his shimmy when he was excited to offer us something. Such a joy. After dinner, Robert invited us to have complimentary cocktails at the downstairs bar and met Addis, who had been preparing the custom cocktails throughout the evening. There was a fantastic libation with watermelon ice that dissolved as you consumed the drink. Great! I also had a Gewürztraminer-based dessert wine that was lovely. My husband and I came here for dinner back in March and although the food was good, the service was terrible and did not leave a good impression. The courses were terribly timed, with long waits between them, the meal ended up taking much longer than it needed to. There was also no coordination between servers as they tried to give us tap water even though we were drinking sparkling water and they tried to give my husband regular bread instead of the gf bread they had. The food is what missed the mark for me. We ordered the Italian chicories salad and beef carpaccio to start. For our mains, we ordered the caramelle pasta and the seafood risotto. All the food was decent but nothing blew us away. For dessert, they gave us complimentary chocolate and macarons, which was a nice touch. My wife and I had an amazing dinner here for her birthday. Classic Italian food with a top-notch wine list and the most gorgeous atmosphere imaginable. They gave us a private table on an indoor balcony overlooking the restaurant. Our servers, Jordan and Raffi, were knowledgeable, personable, efficient, and all around great. Service here is top-notch fine dining - new cutlery at every course, crumbing the table cloth, water service so the bottle isn't on your table, when you go to the bathroom and come back you find your napkin folded beautifully on the table - the works. We had probably 5 different staff members attend to us during the meal and they were all excellent, from the busser to the sommelier. The food is refreshingly classic, in that it's not trying to reinvent every dish in some modern fusion style. It's just very good high-end Italian food. Standout dishes - Sardines, Chicory Salad, Artichokes Almondine, Beef Bresato (basically short rib and filet mignon on the same plate!) My only critique is that some dishes were over-salted, but I also prefer less salt than the average person, so I won't take any points off because the food was all very balanced with acidity and fat, and vegetables were all prepared in a way that truly honors them. The wine list is world-class, and if you are a lover of fine old-world wines this is a must visit restaurant. The bottle list is a mile long with page after page of back vintage Barolo and Barbaresco, plus many of the best Austrian and French producers too. However, the glass list was so good we didn't even do a bottle despite being very tempted by a few. The Austrian wine options worked perfectly for the food, as the north Italian cuisine is stylistically similar to southern Austria which shares a border with Italy, but of course there are stellar Italian glass options too. Some standout btg wines - Tement Sauvignon Blanc (with Sardines, or Asparagus Risotto), FX Pichler Gruner (with Chicory Salad), Pierre Paillard Champagne (yes, by the glass!) Atmosphere is grand and romantic, with extremely double-high ceilings and two massive indoor faux trees, dim lighting, beautiful cutlery and wall hangings, and an open-kitchen view on one side of the spacious dining floor. Our balcony seat was incredibly romantic and cozy. We would love to come back again and try some new dishes when the menu changes for the season, and to tap into more of their amazing wine list. Ambiance is wonderful and if you don't mind prices for the night, this place is it. Interior is beautifully decorated, the trees make you feel like you are outside sitting in a magical place. My friend came here for dinner, we didn't realize we should have been celebrating our friendniversay or something, cause tables all around us were celebrating birthdays or anniversaries, no joke. I seem to find all the restaurant where people are out celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. Drinks are divine, though the margarita needed salt on the rim. The martini felt old man like, but our other drinks were spot on. The bar is beautiful, if you have a chance, stop by for a drink first to watch the bartenders in action. Absolutely decadent, luxurious, refined, opulent and rich dining experience, and that describes the food, service, and ambiance. The first thing I noticed was the plush and grand atmosphere, the decor is like none other...and truly a beautiful space. And for how luxurious and fine of a place it is, the staff give off a friendly and warm vibe that's welcoming rather than stuffy or too formal. The food was all delicious, but maybe a bit too rich, and some dishes had a little too much salt for me, but overall the dishes were enjoyable, filling, and gorgeously presented. We went to Café Carmellini yesterday for their champagne brunch and honestly... it was such a beautiful experience. The space is grand but inviting, with trees in the center of the room and a live band that completely set the vibe. The service, food, and drinks were all impeccable, and when we mentioned we were celebrating our engagement anniversary, the service manager surprised us with complimentary desserts, including a shaved ice with gelato underneath that I never would've ordered on my own but ended up loving. A beautiful restaurant situated in the middle of Nomad, yet stands as a unique fine dining experience. The high praise from the NY Times "best of" list is much deserved. The decor is perhaps the no.1 attraction, yet everything else is chefs kiss. With a wonderfully attentive staff looking after us, every dish was served with patience and care. My party was never rushed to make us feel like we were dining in a queue - not a given nowadays... The staff offered great suggestions and we loved everything that was ordered. The Sweet Crab and Pepper Mille Feuille packs a lot of flavor and is very refreshing. The Bay Scallops melt in your mouth, while the Beet and Caviar Tart bursts with sweetness and tanginess. While the pasta is definitely the main attraction, we optioned for the Chicken Gran Sasso for 2. The chicken was flavorful and tender with white meat being plated and served first followed by the dark meat. Both sections of the chicken were equally delicious! Cafe Carmellini left us so impressed that I am sure this will be a repeat visit and high recommendation for all dining rooms patrons for a long time to come. read more

This location is beautiful -- I loved the art deco atmosphere. The service was lovely as well, especially our young, soft-spoken waitress who was very kind and attentive. The brunch food was delicious; the rabbit pappardelle had just the right amount of spice, and my entrée was excellent. My only suggestion would be for the restaurant to be a bit clearer about the champagne portion of the brunch. From the way it's advertised on social media, I expected that at least one glass or small tasting of champagne would be included. Since it's called a "champagne brunch," being more upfront about the additional cost would help set expectations. read more
