This place is a gem. I am fairly new to the area I was living in the Los Angeles area. I wanted to get some new tires for my mountain bike. I honestly was OK spending a little bit of money I figured some new tires would be great. I'm honestly not sure I'm pretty bad with names but I think it was the owner. He did not try to upsell me he actually was trying to get me just to keep my old tires and save me money. When I explain to him that I'm OK spending a little bit of cash and this is what I want. He went to his bin and found the perfect tires for me and they were probably $40 cheaper than the ones I wanted. He literally save me probably 100 bucks. So I paid for them to change out the new tires. He said it would be ready for pick up tomorrow. The next day I was very excited to get my bike. I left work a little bit early but traffic was insane. I called him and let him know I'd be there literally at 6:30. He told me not to worry we will wait for you. When I got there again I'm pretty horrible with names I think it was Cesar. He said Cesar worked on the bike and to thank him. But truly I am grateful to the whole store. For such great service. And then I was able to go test out the tires. They were perfect. My bike felt like a brand new bike. And he told me he adjusted my gears so they shift smoother. Overall this place out of 10 gets an 11. I'll definitely go back here and I really hope everyone else should too and support this great community/bike store. I must say this family owned shop is a refreshing gem. A solid 5 star operation. I had a fantastic experience in shopping a bike for my wife. Owner Kyle was extremely knowledgeable with zero sales pressure. He was able to diagnose my wife's bike fit and walked us through the features and benefits of each bike model. I am impressed by the level of genuine attention towards each and everyone who walks through the store's doors. I called to see if they would be able to replace my broken hand brake on my knee scooter. I was not able to get a firm answer, as he needed to see it person. I took it is the man was so friendly,knowledgeable, and attuned to my needs (in a cam boot post op). He called to one of the mechanics about getting repaired right away. Less than 2 hours later, I got a call saying it was ready! Wow! When I arrived to pick it up, he recognized me in the car and offered to bring my scooter out to me so i didn't have to hobble in on my crutches. So thoughtful & appreciated! To state this place is a "ripoff" is an understatement... I was in the area today and need to grab some Shimano clip-in pedals, so I stopped in. As these were for my stationary bike, not my road cycle, I didn't need anything super expensive. The guy grabs a set of PD-RS500s, perfect, but as I'm getting ready to check out, I notice the price. $179 As I've already checked them out online, I know this is off. I've seen them for $45 to $65, and although I'd expect to pay more buying from a brick & mortar location, this is ridiculous. So I ask the question "why so much?" and I really only need the pedals. He says you can't buy the pedals alone (BS) and that this is the pedals AND clips together, so it more expensive. I thank him for his time and leave. I love the name because the main thing I care about for my 6 year old is safety. He flipped over his BMW bike going down a hill. (On a side note we sold that BMW bike for what we paid for it:) ). Buyer beware. Check your prices before you go buy anything here. I needed a front light for my bike and I thought I'd give this place a try. The gentleman helping me was very nice and showed me the selection of lights that they have. I chose a Nite rider 900 and the price was $89.00 plus tax. I paid and went home. When I got home I took the light from its packaging and started charging it. Out of curiosity I decided to check the pricing . Unfortunately Amazon has the same light for $50.00. The retail on the Nite Rider website is $ 84.95. Most other websites had it for less than retail. I do realize that it was my choice to buy it, but I can't help feeling ripped off a bit. Apparently buying local means overpaying. This is why the local bike shops will eventually go out of business. I own three bikes and will not be taking them there for any kind of service or be purchasing anything ever again. Mainly out of concern that I will be overcharged. I have never had a bad experience at a bicycle shop until today. Came in for a simple problem and left with more questions than answers. All I asked for was air and a good seal in my gravel tire. I was even willing to pay for it. Job was unsucessful, was misled to believe I needed new tape for tubeless set up and was given a different story the next day. On top of that the owner was non-approachable, very condescending and almost belittling me for asking for a simple job. I got a flat tire on my bike and after inspecting my tire I saw I had ran over a thorn. I took it to this shop and got a new tube. The very next day I'm riding it and the tire goes flat. I walked the bike back to my house, inspected it to see if I had ran something over, but I didn't see any indication of a puncture. I brought the bike back to the shop so they could look at it and replace it. I waited in the store while he was changing the tire tube and at the end I asked what the issue was, he said he found a shard of glass puncturing the tire. Hmm okay, I was pretty careful riding my bike making sure to not run anything over and I checked my bike when I got home to look for anything and didn't see the glass. Since I was in the store, he could have shown me the proof of the glass he found. Makes me a little sceptical, but okay maybe I just have bad luck? Anyways, he replaced the tube again and replaced the lining between the tube and the rim. A couple days later I go to take a bike ride. Now I'm a little paranoid, watching the ground the whole time. I even brought my psi gauge with me. At the beginning of my ride the bike was at 31 psi (which is what he pumped it up to), at the middle of my ride it was 24psi. By the time I got home the psi was down at 13. I checked on my bike a couple hours later and it was flat. There is no way I ran something over. My only conclusion is that they have bad tubes. I brought my 2003 Dahon Matrix touring bike in for a super tune-up. This bike has been through a lot. 400 miles in Russia, at least 4 Rosarito-to-Ensenada rides, etc. Countless local 50-100 mile rides. Then, after an injury, I stuck it in the garage for 11 years. I don't think I've EVER put it through this level of service! Basically, they disassembled the bike, cleaned & lubed it, then reassembled it. Now it looks practically brand new! And it rides even better than new. Silent, smooth, the shifting flawless...definitely worth the money! I got new tires and dual flat/clip-in pedals while we were at it. The guys were professional and the store well stocked. I highly recommend this place and will bring my race bike here when I think I'm ready to get back on that saddle. read more

The first time my family went to Safety Cycle I thought it was kind of odd that the vibe from the entire staff was that they did not want to provide service for us. All we needed was an inner tube. No other customers were in the store but they told us they wouldn't be able to get to it. Today I went in again and asked for an inner tube. The man at the register didn't respond. Then another employee yells from the other end of the store and said, "If you want an inner tube you won't be able to get that done today!" I walked away and then decided to walk back in to the store to purchase a bike basket. While in the basket section I heard the customer that was originally standing behind me tell the cashier that he wanted a full bike tune up. The cashier greeted him with a smile and wonderful customer service and started to work on his bike IMMEDIATELY! I am praying that the difference in the customer service my family received was not based on the color of our skin. I would truly appreciate it if management could explain why their company did not have time to change 1 inner tube for one man, but had the time to IMMEDIATELY do a complete tuneup on the ENTIRE bike for another man when we are both offering to pay in green. read more

Never going to 'safety cycle' again. When I bought my rear it was 29.99. Today, kid tried to charge me 39.99. The owner/manager sitting next to him. I tell him I bought the same exact tire a few days ago for 29.99. He scans it. It scans at 24.99. Manager/owner steps in and says that's the wrong price, the are 29.99. I'll never forget the day I took my bike in for a tune up, months before. I had put new break pads and had not gone for a ride yet. First thing Im told "you need new break pads." Brandon is one of the most genuinely honest people I have met in recent memory. I came to the shop with a "charity case" bike that I had hoped to restore to the point of using it for occasional trips to the store or to the beach. He was very receptive to my financial limitations and did not try and shame me or bully me into making a decision between putting good money into a less than great restoration, or the better choice of choosing a budget friendly new bike. Brandon took the time to educate me on the pros & cons of both options, and in the end I decided to let him recycle the used bike and opted to purchase a new one that fits my wallet. It's rare to find a salesperson who is so respectful to an individuals circumstances and not goading the consumer into spending money that they didn't plan on. Here I felt very welcome and didn't feel insecure about not knowing enough about bikes to ask what I needed. Brandon and Kyle were awesome! I bought my 10 year old a 24" bike from Walmart (who completely botched the assembly so that it was unsafe to ride with wires sticking out everywhere and brakes in the wrong position, etc...). My husband dropped off the bike to Safety Cycle and was told 4 days, but they were so super efficient that the assembly was completed the same day! I brought my son in to pick up and test out the bike, and the customer service was outstanding, prices were amazingly reasonable, and these guys were truly knowledgeable and clearly know their trade! They explained all about shifting gears, tested the seat/brake/handlebar positioning with my son, and even upgraded the seat to a super soft, cushy, comfortable high quality seat bc my son complained about the old seat. I left there feeling completely confident my son's bike was 100% structurally safe, and both K & B said call them anytime if we have any questions at all. I wish all businesses were run so professionally with such extraordinary customer service. I will never go anywhere else for my bike needs. I decided to bring my Specialized Roubaix in for a gear adjustment based on the positive reviews, the shop is an authorized Specialized dealer and its convenient location. I was told the adjustment would take three days although since it was just an adjustment, they normally complete the adjustment sooner. I was pleased when I received a call in two days that my bike was ready to be picked up. Miguel confirmed that it was a stretched cable. He recommended that I road test ride my bike to make sure the adjustment was done correctly. All was well and a subsequent ride confirmed it. I will plan to use Safety Cycle for future maintenance needs and I would recommend this shop to anyone looking for reliable bike repair/maintenance service. read more
