I visited the store on Thursday, August 6 to pick up a few things before the weekend. Amongst them was a seedless watermelon. The one I selected was in my opinion, a pretty good looking melon. It had the right coloring on the bottom and felt really heavy. However, after returning home, I proceeded to cut into it and I thought it was about to erupt! It started oozing a very strong and foul odor. I have never experienced this before. Given the condition of the melon I immediately bagged it and trashed it. So, the next day I returned to the store to speak with someone at customer service. I spoke with Sharon who was working the customer service department at the time. I told her about my experience and presented her with my receipt. She expressed her disappointment with my situation and asked if I would like to get one in its place. I told her thanks but no thanks. So she provided me with a store credit. She did ask if I had the melon with me to return but I told her there was no way I could bag it and keep it on hand to bring back. It was just too messy and smelly! I just wanted to thank her for assisting me and providing me with a store credit. read more

Safeway is an embarrassment to the city. The parking lot is always full of litter. It looks so unappealing. The store is well stocked but there's rarely more than one register open. Except for one lady, the staff is impatient and unkind. On the other hand, the Pharmacy staff is superb! They are always helpful and cheery. Safeway do better by Bowie. read more

I've always liked this Safeway staff friendly easy in and out plenty of carts (maybe they can lend some to Brandywine Safeway lol no really) like most stores they don't want people to check you out that's a pet peeve for me cashiers are needed -I'm all fit self checkout for quick in and out but YOU REALLY DO NEED REAL CASHIERS at least 3 at all times not everyone is good at self checkout and not everyone just had two items -prices going up everyday so help us get in out and more efficiently read more

If you need to hurry up and get something it's okay to come out here, but one thing I can say is that this place is not clean. This is the second time that I have come here and I have found trash throughout the store on the floor And multiple doors on the fridge-ration areas broken off the hedges I don't know if I just came at a bad time after a rush of people swarm through the place, but things need to be improved especially in the check out area. It was to the point, customers didn't want to go to certain registers because there was trash, receipts, and our door leaves twigs on the grounds. I would assume after the renovation, the location would get better as far as appearance and staff cleanliness; however, they are lacking on cleanliness. The PRICES at this store are insane ‼ They were bought out a couple years ago , remodeled the store, and the prices have consistently gone up and have skyrocketed in the past year . I have the apps for Giant , Harris Teeter , Aldi, Lidl, Shoppers, and Walmart on my phone and compare prices before shopping. All of these stores are within a 5 mile radius except Shoppers but I don't mind driving a little bit further bc I love their Apple Fritters . If you're looking to save money, (and who isn't ,) make sure you check the apps. Safeway will be going out of business in Bowie if they don't wake up and stop with their greed !!! read more

My compliant about this store is that they don't have a manned checkout open, and they have the nerve to have a sign at the self check-out stating, "about 15 items or less". Try checking out a basket full of groceries at the self check-out, and lets not mention how some of the sections look like they announced a "blue light" special for certain items. The management at this store treat customers like they are the only grocery store for 20 or 30 miles! Go to the new Giant, located at 810 Fairmont Drive, in Bowie, Md, they always have at least ONE manned checkout open at all times. Their vegetable and meat sections are awesome! I think the worst thing about this rating is that its not all Safeway''s fault. I'm sure the pandemic played a minor role. However, they NEVER have more than two cashiers working and they close ridiculously early. They definitely tried to make the store look better but I still rather drive to Crofton to go either to Wegmans or Giant. Over the years I keep going to this store because it's close. Today was the best example of horrible management. The store had no paper bags. No signage until people started complaining. Full carts of food and nothing to put them in. Why are they out. Poor management, it's called ordering from your desk not looking at pars. Came in and was getting produce and from a good distance away I could see something covering a tomato in the tomato section. There were other workers in the area but none of them seemed to notice. I walked over because I needed cherry tomatoes and noticed one of the Roma tomatoes was COVERED in fruit flies. Needless to say I didn't buy any tomatoes. Also this isn't the first time that the produce section has been lacking. Brought a pack of romaine lettuce before and when I went to wash it there was soil CAKED between the leaves. Their online shopping and delivery is a 0ne-star operation. The app is constantly down just at the moment I need it the most. Worst, some segments of the process don't work and I feel like the mobile app is a conglomerates of many systems behind the curtain. The delivery service has become a hit or miss operation since they've outsourced the service. I'm now on my sixth (or 7th) failed delivery experience. I paid for the premium service thinking I could avoid the terrible service but no, it's gotten worse. Lines at this Safeway are HORRIBLE! This is the Safeway in Bowie Town Center. At 4 PM, they only have one full service checkout open! The self service line is literally snaking back into the Deli Department. In contrast, Giant, on Annapolis Road, has 3-4 full service registers, and 10-12 plus self checkout registers. The only thing consistent about this Safeway location is the bad customer service, horrible, unfriendly and lazy like attitude of the employees. The store at Bowie Town center is horrible when it comes to catering to the Handicapped. There is only one HP cart and it is either never charged, or it is broken. You would think that for The prices charged, Safeway would invest a small amount to cater to the Senior community Which is practically at its' back door! This problem has gone on for too long!! The worst store ever! I paid the lottery tickets but unfortunately the lottery vending machine didn't print out ticket and the receipt. The store manager Drew was not helping. He asked for the receipt, and we told him I diid not have it because the lottery machine didn't print out the receipt. The manager refused to refund or did not do something to ensure that I got the printed receipt. I was told to contact the company for refund or fix the problem. The company confirmed the manager of Safeway is responsible to refund. Now I missed an opportunity to win the lottery. They ruined my day and do not appreciate what the manager Drew did. This store never have enough employees working the registers. Please don't be in a hurry. If you dont have 30 minutes to wait to but one item please shop else where. This was a issue before Covid! Once you get to the cashiers they are usually pleasant that's why I gave 2 stars. Sad to see such a beautiful store to be ran so poorly. I'm a loyal customer from that Safeway and I went to the deli to see the cook and found out he was suspended and I was so upset and the deli manager was upset as well I have put in many of orders at this store and have came to my aid many of times I have put in platter orders and chicken orders and they have always helped me out. I shop here every now and then. I decided to order online and then go pickup. They said my order would be ready at a certain time so I attempted to contact them by phone to let them know I was on my way. No one picked up to phone. I tried several times then contacted Safeway customer service. Customer service tried for 10 or 15 minutes and they too could not reach them. So I just told Customer service to cancel my order because I wasted enough time plus I got a text saying some items were not available. They canceled the order and said it would be something like 5 to 15 business days to receive my refund!!! I said WTF?? 5 days maybe but 15 days is ridiculous!!! So far its been 12 effffing days and still no refund!!! I suspect they are hoarding the money for maximum interest accumulation!!! If not refunded by tomorrow I am contacting my bank and filing a complaint against these lowlife shysters! Also I won't be shopping there again. read more

Even with a nice remodel, this Safeway just cannot get customer service right. The folks in the self checkout area always look like you're bothering them, the hand carts aren't conveniently located, but the ONE plus is the pharmacy. Just bought grocery's from here for maybe the 4th time ever. We got 2 packs of beef jerky and it was moldy and expired. My nephew bit into it, (the smell is horrendous, but I guess he didn't notice) and we are taking him to get his stomach pumped. The best by date of the one we didn't throw away was December of last year. I've been to second world grocery stores who manage not to sell expired goods. Besides stocking tainted food, the staff is less than friendly and there's a beggar or solicitor out front every time I go. I just gave money to a mom begging with her toddler on the way out. This is going to be the last time we shop here. Maybe if everyone stopped, management would get their act together. read more

I bought chicken wings from wing bar at the Bowie Town Center Safeway on 1/30/18. I ate a few pieces and put the rest in the refrigerator. The next day I ate a piece and noticed that it was undercooked. I felt funny a few hours later but I said that I would go back to the store the next day which I did. I showed the store manager the chicken he took a picture of it with my information. I had to go to urgent care a few days later for food poisoning. read more

We go to this Safeway for the good meat sales they periodically have here. Especially the steak sales and quality. Yes we do have steak jones every now and then. Recently, having a job related injury, I have come to appreciate the electric carts. So far, not a problem here. I now understand the importance of these vehicles. So this Safeway looking good and on point! The frozen food section is relatively extensive. We were very happy with the greens, cabbage, carrots and red potatoes and corned beef sale. It has now become one of our go to stores. Sometimes the lines are a little long but since my injury, I am not in any real rush. But, the lines do move especially the self serve line. Where if a certain male employee is there it moves fairly quickly. Whelp, that's about it so far. Have fun! read more

This Safeway is convenient but can be frustrating. They usually have what I am looking for but 75% of the time, it is overpriced! Last week, I went to this Safeway to look for fresh basil and rosemary after going to Weis and not finding the ingredients I needed. Low and behold, Safeway also DID NOT have these herbs. It was early in the afternoon so I couldn't figure out why they were out... nonetheless. This definitely isn't my favorite grocery store but they'll "usually" have what you're looking for. read more

I recently had the most pleasant visit to the Safeway in Bowie. Although the store was busy the selves were fully stocked and the department's were very helpful with providing items and information. The best part of my trip however was my checkout. I am a fanatic for exceptional customer service and I must give a well done to the cashier NAHIF. He was most gracious and welcoming. Although the lines were long he moved swiftly all while displaying a immense amount of enthusiasm. He most certainly made my trip feel more of a adventure than a task. Pretzel ham cheese sandwich went from $6.99 for two to 6.99 for one. I know prices have gone up ,I use to eat these for lunch but not anymore. Also got a nice sized boxed chicken ceaser salad ,but the croutons were soft and the salad had been dripped with lemon riinds included. Please I like your salads but that was disgusting. Safeway customer service in Bowie may be going down. I returned chicken that smelled spoiled. The representative acted like I personally asked her for money. She was rude and didn't know the Freshness Guarantee that is clearly posted at the front counter. I didn't want to match her energy so I just accepted my $9.67 refund. Gotta say......I can't stand this spot. Everything is in place for it to succeed. Huge store in a prime shopping plaza location in a thriving community. Plenty of employees. Yet.....nothing. I use the word "employee" in the purely technical sense. The act of actually doing work is questionable for many of the employees. Part of the problem is the employee roster looks like it's stacked with high school kids and several individuals who have "work release program" written all over them (figuratively...lol). The store is just so disorganized and always running out of products. There's the concept of "restocking" that they clearly have not heard of. Making things worse, they don't just run out of stuff. It looks as if the place gets ransacked by a bunch of vultures and dingos. While the Giant down the street may also have issues, it's still a far better option....unless you don't mind slim pickings. read more

This supermarket is kind of a super disappointment. When it first opened up, I was excited. It is close to my house. It is rather larger and is stocked with a lot of products. It's clean and offers a lot of parking. Because of these things, I didn't give it lower stars, but certainly considered it. Some of the criticism: No fresh seafood. Same old farm raised salmon and fake crab legs. Anything else is frozen. Considering that we are not that far from the sea, why am I getting the same seafood selection as if I was in the middle of Oklahoma. They have tons of registers. They only open a couple, at the most 3 at a time, even during peak shopping times. Ridiculous. I understand that people are less educated today and count pass 10 since they all stand in the express lane. It is up to Safeway to police this situation. They do nothing. The dry cleaner counter never has a person at it, so if you have something to bring in or pick up, good luck. They have a stupid Starbucks built in, which I can't stand. The shopping carts are rarely organized. I found myself several times going back outside, go in the middle of the parking lot to pick up a cart that a customer left. Such a nice big place with no commitment to customer satisfaction. I really should drive to another place, but too lazy to go to a much further place to get some groceries. read more
