Bad bad bad service @ the Deli department... I came around 6:30 pm on 6/30/16 and waited in line for 15min while the guy was cutting cold cuts for 2 customers then finally he decided to come help me when he saw a line forming behind me ... He told me and the rest of the customers inline that the Deli is closed for an hour... Thank you for making us wait 15min before you decide to let us know you jerk.... I ended up coming back an hour later 7:30pm and got my cold sandwich from a different guy.... Thank you it was good... But I'm still hungry so I came back again for another sandwich @ 8:20pm and tried to order but the same guy said sorry the Deli is closed now... I was bummed out.... I asked the guy what time does the Deli close ??? He responded 8:30pm... Mmmm ok.. I said sir it's only 8:20pm so we have 10 min... He repeated the Deli is closed go to the fridge and there is pre made sandwiches there and I said sir I don't like these pre made sandwiches then he became rude and said I told you the Deli is closed that's it... I'm mad now ... I looked for a manager but I couldn't find 1... These guys behind the Deli need to learn some manners and training... I'll be back to complain to a manager in person... It is Thanksgiving week, 2 check stands open, no baggers and no one helping at the self serve checkout. We stood in line 15 minutes. I knocked on the Customer Service door...no answer. SMH we usually go to Grocery Outlet and Costco, but needed a few things that they don't carry BIG MISTAKE. The checkers look like they hate being there as much as the customers! Was told the Managers name is Yvette. WAKE UP. Hire more people, improve moral. I am willing to pay more at Molly Stones for better service. I only shop here when I have no other choice. There is no bakery or deli. The produce selection and quality is poor. The meat selection is very limited. I shop in the evenings when their shelves are emptied of any sale items as well as exotic things like milk, cheese, ground beef- you get the picture. When I've asked if they have more in the back, I'm told that they don't. Nearly every time I go, the clerks are focused on the conversations they're having with other clerks. So they just rebuilt this Safeway from the ground up. It went from an ugly, dinky safeway with an odd parking lot to a MASSIVE one with an extra parking structure. To be honest, it's a little over the top... the aisles are very wide, the produce is duplicated all over the place, there are so many cashiers...but it's super nice... they're trying to "wholefoodize", but I dunno.. I like safeway being safeway... but it's pretty nice... I guess I'll be coming here a lot now... they're also bringing five guys, pizza my heart, and yogurtland into this complex... someone save me!!!! read more

Wow, brand new safeway (less than 1month old). Wow, upper level parking JUST for safeway... Reminds me of a mall. Wow, windows overlooking the lower level where the elevators (huge!!) are located. Free wifi...down at their starbucks seating area. Coffee was a little bitter/tart, hmm, don't know why, maybe it was the gingerbread syrrup... That's what happens when you don't order a regular (expensive, it adds up, sigh) latte. And you get people who are "lounging" there....you know, they lounge all day.....sigh read more

I really debated how to rate this Safeway. With it being a new building and all, it should have been a no-brainer "5" but there are other factors besides a new building to consider. Pros 1. new building and very clean! Pleasant shopping environment (once you figure out the parking situation) 2. nice bakery case upfront where you can buy onesies or twosies instead of a whole package. Fresh baked bread is unbeatable here! The bakery section is pretty good and reasonably priced, especially considering all of the bakeries on Burlingame Ave (Copenhagen, Kara's, all about cakes, etc). I'm not saying it's better than those places but it does hold its own and you can get decent quality at a much lower price. 3. more selection than the unremodeled store - lots more organic and healthier choices than before 4. Lots of checkout lanes and self service checkout so I've never really had a long wait in the checkout process even on a busy weekend day. Cons 1. parking lot - too many businesses share the lot and there really is not enough space for all those businesses. Fortunately there is a 2nd floor lot for safeway specific customers but the ramp is curvy, hilly and can be a challenge for the senior citizen drivers. You can typically find parking up there but drive with caution. 2. employees not knowledgeable on product locations. the store is bigger and sometimes even the employees don't know where things are. They will go through all the same spots I have already searched, and one would expect a store employee to have more expertise in locating items than the customer. this issue was resolved when she asked another employee to help. They did have the item in stock and it was found 3. sale items frequently out of stock - stores should have ample stock or be willing to offer rain checks. Frequently sold out of things. Fortunately, 2 of the cons are addressable and I hope to be able to rate them higher on my next visit. I like the convenient location, and access to all the other businesses/restaurants does make this center a one-stop shop. read more

They should just delete all of the old yelps on this place because the former Safeway was a scummy, ghetto, mess. The new remodled Safeway is outstanding. There is so much produce, I would guess to say 50 types of lettuce at least. A huge Starbucks and a great deli and bakery. It has the feel of a large Whole Foods inside. Parking is ample and the floral section is on par with florists in the area. I feel sorry for local food markets and produce stores in the area, this Safeway is going to stick the nail in their coffin. read more

A lot of the reviews are kinda over exaggerated. The reviews make it sound like a deathtrap or stinkhole. It's an outdated Safeway. This store is usually clean and it usually has the stuff I need/want. It's just cramped on the inside. I can't afford to buy food at Mollie Stones or the other grocery stores around Burlingame, so I'm happy I have the option of a Safeway nearby. So if you live in the area and can't afford to spend a lot of money or travel to another city, it's a pretty decent option. And yes, the staff is really nice. read more

Worst store ever for long line ups at the cashier. Only come here if you have 20-30 minutes to stand in line with a load of groceries melting all over you. I've lived in the neighborhood of this store for the last 20 years. In the old days, it was a small, and dirty store with rude employees who would overcharge you all the time and you had to watch the price of the items being entered into the computer in order to make sure they didn't over charge you. So, in most cases, I just shopped at other places, or other Safeway stores to avoid this particular store. Then, they renovated the store, and hired a whole bunch of new employees, and everything seemed great. But then little by little their cafe became a shelter for the homeless and weirdos. In the evening, you can see a few homeless sitting there staring at you, or sleeping. A couple of times that I went there to have a drink and chat with friends I had run into while shopping, these homeless who use the cafe as their shelter smell so bad that you would not be able to take it more than a few minutes. Their Deli department also has very rude people who simply ignore you unless you yell at them. I am one of those people who hates yelling at anyone, specially the service people since I think they have a hard job; so a few times, I just politely waited at the deli counter for someone to ask what I need; but they just ignored me. After a few times that I went there and saw that behavior repeated, I finally had it. So. now I don't go there, or if I do, I simply yell at them as soon as I get there. It's not a behavior I'd be proud of, but it's either that or standing there for 10 minutes and being totally ignored. At the end, this store doesn't seem to be able to get its act together. It is always one thing or another with this store. Whatever you do, don't use their cafe specially in the evening. read more

Parking is abysmal. The store is cramped, the carts are dirty, long check out lines, frequently the express check out isn't open even on the busiest days so you have to stand behind 3 full carts to get a carton of eggs. Management obviously doesn't care about the customer experience at all I feel sorry for the employees who work there who are doing their best working in an obviously miss-managed store that is understaffed and poorly trained. I recently went to Luckys in Millbrae and what a difference a shopping experience it was. Ample parking, beautiful new red shopping carts, spacious aisles, no lines and baggers always available to help you out with your groceries, a courteous staff and all in all an experience so different from Safeway that I will never shop Safeway again. I will drive the extra miles to go to Millbrae. Safeway has lost my business. Sorry Safeway Burlingame but you suck. read more

Beautiful store BUT! Long checkout lines, exterior and interior of store often littered, parking on top level sometimes full though relatively few people in store. (Employee told me that people who work in nearby stores park there.) The exterior area with the rank of carts under the stairs is usually marred by trash. Last month I snail-mailed their corporate headquarters with photos of neglected areas, including the fecal smear on the floor that some children had stepped in by the interior rank of carts. I have to say I love this Safeway. Great to-go foods and you can eat there w/ free wifi. Perfect! Reason I'm writing this is for the STARBUCKS inside this Safeway (which I couldn't find on Yelp). I have had terrible service at this Starbucks before but today's took the cake. Absolutely absurd. While I was ordering my drink my 7 year old wanted hot water for his soup we had just purchased at Safeway. Was asked for a receipt which I couldn't find. My 7 yr old went to get the cashier to verify we had indeed bought it there and then the guy finally filled his soup. It's HOT WATER and it COSTS YOU NOTHING. Thx for the help... not! Then after I had purchased my drink I asked for a cup of water. He promptly said that it would be 25 cents. UMMMM I've NEVER paid for water at Starbucks. or anywhere! It's WATER buddy..... Lame. Then I decided I would just buy a bottle of Ethos. The 40$ cash back button is right by the No Cash Back button. Accidently must have hit it and he said I had to take the $40 and he couldn't do anything about it. Overall the guy that works at this Starbucks is a total douche bag. And my espresso tasted burnt. I would give this place zero stars but they make me give at least one. Living in Burlingame has its good points but when that time of the week comes when you need to grocery shop you are out of luck! We have the most ghetto Safeways I think I have ever seen. Sad, since this is one of the more upper class neighborhoods but we don't have the decency to have a Safeway that bakes their own bread. We ran in here to grab a loaf of french bread for dinner and I probably could have knocked someone out with how hard their "freshly baked loafs of french bread." I am not lying. It was horrible! I asked the woman who worked there that was busy gabbing to one of her co-workers and she told me they get their bread from "the big Safeway." She also mentioned she wasn't sure when it was baked. It could have been yesterday or two days ago she said. Well isn't that heart warming. You are serving me old bread that could potentially knock someone out. I guess on the plus side, if I was walking through the parking lot alone at night I could just whip out my loaf of french bread and knock the crap out of someone....yeahhhh I think I will just go to Mollie Stones and pay 3 times as much. This is about the worst shopping experience imaginable. Poorly stocked shelves and non-existent check out help, along with a hideously laid out parking lot (inviting accidents to happen) makes going to this Safeway a form of shopping hell. I do it only for the paper products which you can't get at any reasonable price anywhere nearby. On November 22nd 08, 2:00 PM.My 5 years old son and I went Safeway in Burlingame, California. Before we went there, we passed by Blockbuster to get a movie and a box of Starburst candy. We were eating this chewy candy as we entered Safeway. As we were inside the store, I saw a box of cookies right next to the register. I took 1 box of this cookies and I put it in my basket. This box is quiet big for this basket so I decided to put it back into the shelf. I figured I didn't want to carry it around the store as I still had a few other things to buy and this occupies a lot of space. The cookies were right next to the register, so I will just grab it when I'm done with other things as I pay in the register. Anyway, it on the way. I didn't want to carry it around the store. When I put the cookies back on the shelf, my son asked me why I returned to the shelf. I explained to him that we will buy it when we are done with our shopping as we come to the register. As soon as I put the cookies back on the shelf, and started to walk away to continue my shopping, a person who was working on the register his name is 'REYES PICAZO'came behind me and put this box of cookies (that I just put on the shelf) into my basket. He said, "This is not right! You can't do this!" and he went back to register to continue his work because people we1re waiting on the line. So I went to him and asked him what happened. He said, "This is not right, this is stealing!" I was surprised and could not understand what he meant by that. So I asked again: "What's stealing? What is wrong?" I was thinking in my head if he was upset that I put the cookies back on the shelf a little "shuffled" because I was trying to fit it earlier to my basket. I was gonna tell him that he should not worry because I will buy them on my way back as I have planned after I was done with things. But as I started to talk, he interrupted me and he continued by saying I was eating their cookies and he saw me eating them and gave some to my son too. He was screaming at me, "Get out of my face!" I was shocked! How can this happen? He was so loud everybody listening to him accusations against me and my son. I couldn't believe this. I said I didn't eat you cookie and I showed everyone what was in my mouth and in my son's mouth, which was the candy we just bought from Blockbuster. This guy called the manager. After the manager got there. he told the manager the same thing: That he saw us, me and my 5 yr-old son, eating their cookies and put it back in the shelf. So the manager asked him if he really saw us. I also challenged them that if the have an in-store camera, they can check it. Meanwhile everyone's eyes were on me and my son, facing false accusations from this guy. While our discussion was getting louder, my son all this time holding on tightly my shirt looking scared probably thinking why these people are crowding us and screaming almost on top of their and me too getting loud because I was trying my best to make them believe that I am not doing anything wrong. My son was now starting to cry and trying to get me out of the store or maybe out of that situation. I couldn't remember how it really happened how I finally found myself and my son laying on the floor! i couldn't think straight, I couldn't figure how this thing happened? Did this register guy pushed me? Or was there somebody else pushed me? If they are running their in-store camera I want to review it to see how I fell on the floor. I felt like nobody believed me so I suggested to call the police. While waiting for the police, the manager took me and my son outside in front of the store to sit down. Then suddenly, the Register guy that accused me earlier came to us with the same box of cookie in his hand and said he has checked the box and nothing was missing, the cookies were just shuffled and said: "That was my mistake, I apologize". After what all these false accusation of stealing a cookie and giving stolen cookie to my son and all the screaming, I couldn't accept his apology. Then the police came and I told the police what has just happened and asked them to take a report about the whole incident. Then the police said that they can not do anything about it except to file a complaint to Safeway management. I asked them if what the guy has accused me for was true, should I go to prison. He said yes, and I asked him that what happens to me and my son when I was falsely and humiliated in front of many people and all I can do is file a complaint to Safeway Mgt? I said I will find my way and they said that is my choice as long as it is legal. And I said, of course it will be legal way. The manager offered my son a toy car and said that it can help him have good memories about this incident. My son and I went home and I noticed my son had actually peed in his pants. This review is specific to the sandwich shop. Why do you list pesto as a sandwich sauce then charge an extra .50 if you ask for it. Either change your signage to say pesto is extra or stop charging it. Let me know when you have resolved this. read more
