Although their food selection is good, the shopping experience is depressing. Some aisles are completely locked up behind glass. The entrance and exits have barriers and gates so if you leave empty handed you must pass through the self checkout. You get the impression in there that they assume you'll shoplift and that you're not appreciated as a customer. And with their prices, they should appreciate their customers. The location is super convenient, but I wish shoppers were treated like guests instead of inmates. read more

This is a Safeway, not a Wholefoods, so reviews should look at it from that perspective. That being said, as a grocery store, it is convenient, has what you need, at good prices, and is rarely crowded. What I really want to praise is the pharmacy and the pharmacy supervisor. While I have had my friction at any pharmacy, even this one...due to our bureaucratic health system usually... the pharmacy supervisor, a younger Asian woman, went far above and beyond to help my family out with a difficult prescription. read more

Went shopping at Safeway the whole time I keep hearing this how their looking out for my well being and safety of there customers during corona epidemic . Here big problem I have about this whole thing and this been going on way before corona and I don't care which store you go to it the same problem, they have 8 registers but only 2 are open you go and stand in line they have people standing and waiting in each line that stretches all the way back to end of store, as you standing there you have other customers squeezing by trying get merchandise off shelf's, now explain to me how's is this all safe. Very clean Safeway with wide isle to walk in. I like how they display thing like the valentine loney homeless bear on a bike. Bathroom is located at the back of the store bad not in the front. I agree with EVERYONE else's reviews. The lines have gotten out of control at this store. I usually shop on Mondays after work and there's only 2 cashiers; one of them being the express lane. I was there earlier today and it was the same situation. Two customers ahead of me a lady was complaining and the cashier and bagger we're agreeing with her. The cutbacks on staff being ridiculous and how just 2 additional people could make a difference. Agreed! But now there's more to add. I love the $5 deals in the produce section on Mondays. Some of the items are still fresh. But when you have bell peppers, romain hearts and avocados spiking away and very little bananas....and boxes of fresh produce laying around with no one in sight re-stocking. THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG WITG THIS PICTURE! I even saw the green bell peppers in the box. I was so close to opening the box and grabbing what I needed. What a pain. I hope to see a change here soon. The employees who rang me up and bagged my purchase we're very pleasant though! LOL. That's about it. One star for each of them. PS....oh I forgot....the soups aren't even labeled! read more

Review for bakery - I ordered two tiramisu cakes for my wedding. I was to pick them up at 10AM the day of the wedding. At 10AM the day of my wedding, the bakery called and said that the woman that took my order made a mistake and they didn't have anymore tiramisu. Anyone who has planned a wedding knows this is a nightmare when you have so much you have to do the day of your wedding. I had to scramble and luckily found tiramisu at Raley's. I would hate for this to happen to someone else for their wedding or child's birthday, etc. We were trying to be frugal with our wedding and that's why we decided to go with Safeway. But I guess sometimes you just have to splurge if it's an important occasion. read more

Absolute worst customer service. Cashier & bagger were both unfriendly, rude, & gossiping the entire time they helped us. The cashier at one point clearly got upset about me putting my zucchini & squash in the same bag because she said with a deep sigh "I can't do this." Also, when I got home, come to find out two items I purchased were not there. My recipe says I paid for them but the bagger seemed to be too interested in the gossip from the cashier she forgot how to do her job properly & misplaced our groceries. read more

We've have come back here pretty frequently, mostly due to being close by to our home. The deli/hot food section staff have continued to ignore us when we have tried to buy from their sections. This has unfortunately occurred about 5 more times. The rest of thee store is pretty much the same experience as before. This used to me the closest grocery store to home, and my favorite one to shop at. My how things can change in a couple of years. The staff is still friendly, but the so many things about this Safeway have started to go down hill. The place seems messier than it should be, and they stopped carrying a lot of the products in the meat section. They offer them at other Safeway's (like the one in Vacaville) but not here. It also seems that the once competitive prices have gotten increasingly higher since it was purchased by Savemart's parent company. So much so that I frequently get better deals at Raleys. The cashier lines are horrendous (worse than Walmart, even), and It's just an unpleasant experience to shop there. It didn't used to be, and that makes this Safeway loyalist very sad. Guess I'll stick to the Vacaville store from now on when I have the urge to head to Safeway. read more

This place looks like it hasn't been remodeled since the early 1990s. The shelves are cluttered the lighting is dim and the floors are worn. The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. They are rarely stocked with toiletries but full of graffiti. Time for a remodel Safeway. read more

This is probably the dirtiest safeway i have been to. I was on a road trip- had to use the rest room and get a few drinks. Went to the restroom- there was pee and poop on the walls and all over the floor. it smelt disgusting and i almost threw up. Seems like it has never been cleaned. read more

Pretty sad experience here. Bathrooms smelled like old fish (they're located by the meat department) and the store in general had a disheveled appearance. Things weren't as clean down the aisles and graffitti was etched into some of the displays. It wasn't up to the usual Safeway cleanly and organized standards. Sadly, I won't return here. read more

I've been coming here for 14 years! The staff are very friendly, the lines sometimes are long. I wish they had self check out, but I have heard over the years people stealing so maybe that's why they don't have a self check out. This review is about my visit on January 31st, 2014. I frequently go to this location with my grandmother who is a regular visitor. Over the years she has made many friends with the staff. This has helped her to feel safe and comfortable when she shops. This visit however was the first time where encountered troubling problems with the customer service. It wasn't until we hit the back end of the yogurt aisle did we experience inexcusable rudeness by the employees. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but if you're going to gossip/complain about other employees or management shouldn't you do that on your break or off the clock? These 5 employees with their main ring leader (a mid-40's woman with short hair and arm tattoos) decided that time was of the essence and decided to do it in the store, completely blocking the back end of the yogurt aisle. My grandma needed to pick up some cottage cheese and thinking that the employees would disperse when she made it evident she was going down the aisle, was shocked when none of them moved. The employees just stood around and didn't move. They looked at both of us and didn't budge. They were completely blocking the aisle. Finally my grandma said loudly, "PLEASE. MOVE." All we got was one employee who moved a few inches to the right and we barely got through. When we left the yogurt aisle (the same way we came in) none of them got out of the way. It as just rude. When we were going into the checkout line we noticed that there was only one checker available. I get it, it's 7 in the morning on a Friday there might not be a lot of people in a Safeway, but soon it backed up to over 12 people. The checker kept calling for somebody to help her out, but nobody came for 15 minutes. I guess they were too busy gossiping. Finally someone came and we got out of there in a good 10 minutes. Our checker however was warm, friendly and very apologetic. She made us feel like we were being taken care of and that we had friends at Safeway. She really was able to turn the negatives into positives. Same goes for the bagger. He was quick and attentive. Best part about this dynamic duo? They did their job and they did it while being personable, friendly and considerate. read more

My mother and I came to store this afternoon to pick up lunch and some food for a funeral service today. My mom requested a large tray of chicken wings, small tray of potato wedges and a small tray of chicken tenders. Service was fine, we just waited about 5-10 mins for them to cook everything so it would be hot and fresh at the service. We presented the food to everyone at the device and they all stood in line and made a plate. Minutes later, one of the relatives came up to me and tells me that the chicken tenders are completely raw in the middle. I was surprised because it looked fully done. I went to the tray than inspected a few others, they were all not cooked. I took the tray off the table and told everyone that is was uncooked and if anyone had it on their plates to please not eat it and throw it away. At this point I knew I was going back to Safeway to talk to them. I went to the same area I had purchased our food from and they told me I needed to take it out with customer service. I walked over to customer service and there were two people ahead of me. The lady at the register asked if I had a return and I said yes, she said to please go to the cash register line for my return. I waited and the lady took my receipt, scanned the tray and gave me my refund. I looked at her and said "if you were wondering why I'm returning this tray of chicken tenders it's because they are raw" she looked at me and said "ok" without sympathy, questions or concerns. I didn't even get a "Sorry about that" I rated Safeway one star because it's a grocery store and they do have what you need. However, their customer service is not good. I was totally embarrassed that I brought raw chicken tenders to a funeral service and having to go back and return everything was a waste of time. No one took responsibility. read more

Excellent supermarket for extra-long lines and slow checkout times. I've gone to this store on occasion over the last several years and the results are always the same--ridiculously long lines at checkout. And the management couldn't care less. Even calls from waiting customers for more cashiers go unanswered. They just don't care. Every time I've gone, there is only one cashier working a single checkout counter, and a line of a dozen or more customers waiting to pay stretching back down the store's aisles. Of course, there is no self-checkout offered in the store, which only makes matters worse. Once, on an especially busy day, they added a second cashier and there were still over a dozen customers waiting in each line. And it's been like this for years. Clearly, the store's management have no interest in fixing this serious problem. I now shop elsewhere. But I will on rare occasion return to this Safeway on Waterman just to see if things have improved. And they never do. Very sad example of incompetent management. read more

Safeway as a store is a fine store... I do about 70-80% of my grocery shopping at various Safeways. However, this particular store is very frustrating with their line situation. They lack the self checkout and a decent number of cashiers on shift, which causes extremely long lines at nearly all hours of the day. 9 out of every 10 visits (or maybe more realistically 19 out of every 20) I'm waiting at least 10+ minutes in line (feels like 15-20mins). They are extremely slow at getting backup cashier support, which usually doesn't even happen because there are no other cashiers to help. I have had particularly bad luck here when I need 1-2 things late night usually around 11pm-1am. EVERY SINGLE TIME I get to the checkout with my one pint of ice cream and WTF!!! There are 8 people in line, backed up into an isle, waiting for the one cashier. I always debate between walking out with or without my item, and giving the person in front of me a $5 and telling them to keep the change... But being a law abiding citizen I debate this for 10-15 minutes while my ice cream melts and I'm finally next to be rang up. Ugn AVOID this location LATE NIGHT. On my latest visit I witnessed a young man shoplift an arm full of various groceries and at the time I looked down on him for it. But after reflecting on all the time I spend in line here I completely understand why he did it... (assuming it wasn't for a lack of cash) Bottom line: If you don't mind waiting at least 10 minutes to check out, this is the Safeway for you. read more
