I really, really wanted to like this. I've used delivery services before like Peapod, etc and it's always worked out really well. I'd recently had a baby and was having trouble getting out to the grocery store so it was very easy and convenient to have the groceries delivered to the house. I picked the 4 hour window, which was fine, because I was always home. The deliveries were always fine, my issue was always with the groceries I received. I always pick the substitution could be a different size but needed to be the same brand and same item. So here are my complaints listed from most minor to just making me angry: 1. Ordered regular Oreos and received Double-Stuffed Oreos which I don't even like. 2. Ordered regular ground turkey, 2 packs, which was substituted with taco-seasoned ground turkey. Why? 3. Ordered whole wheat bread and noticed that it expired within two days. but the most appalling was 4. I ordered almond milk which we opened and used before noticing that it EXPIRED Jan 30th of THIS YEAR! I don't know who the heck packs the food or WHERE they get it from but this is ridiculous. Please throw away your spoiled/expired food and stop selling people garbage. It's totally soured me not only from the delivery service but also the chain. I'd rather use Instacart for my delivery and spend more money at Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. read more

I've ordered from Safeway.com for the last time. The ONLY thing they get right is they are generally timely. However - that is no way excuses the issues that numerous items are substituted or unavailable. With this last delivery, the delivery guy was late, swore at me numerous times for not answering my phone (I was working from home & on a conference call; however I still answered the doorbell when it rang) After being on hold for 40 minutes with customer service I was finally told that even though my receipt indicated that I had received some items, the money would be credited to my account. I asked to speak with a supervisor; It seemed silly that I would have to place a whole new order because the driver forgot to check his truck. Nope, my only option is a new order - no waiving of delivery fee, no discount, no apology. Seriously - the driver asked me if I "ever answer my f--g phone" - how unprofessional is that? OK so generally I like this Safeway, the staff is nice and friendly, the Pharmacists are fabulous and the selection is good. They have been good about acquiring requested products and serving customer needs. In a perfect world I would give this store 5 stars on that alone but there is a reason it loses two stars. 1) The staff do NOTHING about removing the post apocalyptic street people from the front of the store. Honestly on any given day it looks like the toothless extras from Walking Dead are camped out in front of and next to the store, some totally strung out on drugs others just siphoning the plugs to recharge their smartphones ( "homeless" my derriere). The Safeway is a private property with signage prohibiting loitering and the staff does nothing to enforce this and hence loses a star. 2) The one time I saw one of these crazies dealt with was by a managerial type person named Don Whitaker. Mr. Whitaker seems unable to discern between paying customers and vandals/squatters. When a younger, clean cut man was walking into Safeway I watched as one of these drugged out crazies began harassing him, when the younger guy told the nutcase off Mr. Whitaker reprimanded the customer in a condescending manner akin to a school teacher disciplining a 3rd grader. The wrongfully reprimanded customer replied with "Kick your psychos out instead of kicking out customers" I agree with this nameless person and with his frustration. This problem needs to be dealt with since it ruins the shopping experience for all. read more

Let me preface this with I am a regular (daily) Safeway shopper, but not at this store. We were on a multi-day trip in Guerneville and this is pretty much the grocery store in town (other than the not-too-bad organic place next door). It is also the only Starbucks for 25 miles. Given it's location, age and size, it's not surprising that this store is much more limited than a "modern" Safeway. I can live with that. However, the service at this place is well below standard and there is very much of a "whatever" attitude among employees. This most recent trip (I have come to this store many times), they only had two checkstands open and a line of 15+ people in each. This is almost unheard of for a Safeway. There were at least 3-4 employees that I saw that could have opened a checkstand, but were happy to just walk around...despite the PA calls for help from the checkers. The lines were bad each of the 4-5 times I visited that week. The Starbucks is equally bad, if not worse. We had a line of at least a dozen people. There were FOUR Starbucks employees (that's a lot for a Safeway Starbucks), and only ONE was actually helping customers! One person was taking orders and making drinks while the other three did random, useless crap (cleaned the sink, stocking the mugs out front and stocking the pastries). You simply don't do that stuff when you have such a huge line. I felt sorry for the one person doing everything because they were getting all of the crap, but it was pathetic. I would have left if it wasn't for the fact that this is the only Starbucks for miles. The summary: store is fine. It's small and limited, but fine. The two stars for prompt delivery and no substitution of items in my order. The problem is all the dairy items ordered did not show up though I was charged for them. The company policy is to only re-deliver missing order items if the total amounts to more than $25. I could've been dishonest and stated there were more items they were actually missing to bring it over $25, they would've been none the wiser. BTW, doesn't matter that I'm on crutches at the moment and barely able to get around (thus the reason for my placing the order). Bottom Line Up Front: this a sub-standard Safeway. Be prepared to wait in line. As a local I often see non-locals who are dazed, stunned, saddened, and demoralized by how long checking out can take. My go to statement is: this is a good place to practice your zen training (yes I really say this). Prices are higher than Whole Foods (yes I compared). Example wanted? I paid $4.00 for an onion yesterday. Don't believe me? Compare milk, meat, bread, veggies; often the health food store next door is cheaper (I looked today, and I know their onions are). Want a challenge? Move to the deli when it is anywhere near busy (i.e. 3 or more customers). Again, bring your positive attitude and patience. I always support the staff no matter what. There are some great people here; baggers to managers. But bottom line is that whoever is making the decisions higher up has decided (and logically so) they can spend less on this store and make a profit. No competition for at 20 miles. When you're in the actual store, you find things out of stock all the time. Why should online be any different. In my first order, I ordered 35 things. Only 2 things were out of stock. Zero substitutions. A little strategy helps. 5) LEAVE GOOD DRIVER INSTRUCTIONS. Your driver doesn't need detailed instructions unless you live in a maze. Be succinct and point out important landmarks, especially if your driver is delivering after 6pm. This will only increase your chances of getting your delivery within your set time range. 5) DON'T TIP THE DELIVERY PERSON. Safeway forbids their drivers from accepting tips. If you offer, they will (or should) refuse. No awkwardness. I am reviewing the pharmacy only. The employees that work in theis pharmacy are all hardworking, knowledgeable and provide excellent customer service. Unfortunately Safeway has decided to close this pharmacy on Sundays. I been using this for decades. Now retired I have the option of going any day. Well I wouldn't go on a Saturday or Monday now, knowing that those will be the busiest days, for employees that are ALWAYS busy. If they get a minute or two to relax and take a deep breath I've never seen it. I waited till Tuesday to pick up a prescription that I really need. There's usually a line and I give myself at least half an hour for the pickup. I spent an hour in the store yesterday and the line was consistently long. I had an appointment and was unable to spend more than an hour in line. The Safeway gods probably think they can save money by closing on Sundays. If others feel the way I do, they're more likely to lose customers ($). This is not the only pharmacy in town. Looks like I will have to use the other in the future. read more

I don't know how these people are giving this safeway 5 stars...but I'll just focus on my experience. The employees didn't even talk to my boyfriend and I when we were in there. We got there at about 8pm on a Saturday night and not only were TONS of shelves not stocked, there was NO ONE working on restocking them. My boyfriend is almost 6 ft tall and he had to stand on the shelf to get the milk in the back of the rack. This is for out of towners, my boyfriend and I are from the Bay Area, and I'm not going to lie, this place is a little creepy, it gave me chills seeing the type of people in there. Seemed like everyone was high. I would suggest not leaving valuables in your car. Period. If you have to leave your animal in there, I suggest making it a quick trip or checking on them periodically. The Redbox gave us a scratched dvd which was annoying. People keep commenting on the "wonderful, friendly staff..." but when my boyfriend and I were checking out they were talking to each other, whispering and looking worried and frantic outside. One man had come in after he had been sweeping and the bagger said something like "are the carts okay," not sure what she was talking about, but something was going on that they were worried about. So as far as the staff were concerned, they weren't good, weren't bad, just not attentive to people around them. read more

The bakery completely ruin the graduation cake I ordered. When I opened the box I almost cried it was so horrible. I did get my money back but what a joke I felt like showing up with that cake. I have had nothing but terrible service with the Safeway grocery delivery service. My last several orders have came extremely late and outside of the grocery delivery window. Tonight I had an almost $500.00 order being delivered with everything I needed for Thanksgiving as well as other essential items I was counting on receiving this evening. An hour into my reserved delivery window the driver called and said he cannot make it to deliver my groceries and I would have to reschedule the delivery for possibly the next day. When I called to talk to someone at Safeway they said if I needed to cancel my order (as I will need to go shop tonight) it will take 5-7 business days to receive a refund and all of my perishable foods that I ordered will be thrown out and unused as they cant be resold. I just received my first delivery from Safeway's online grocery service. I am super excited to have found this service!! I just recently moved to the bay area and my days are pretty swamped. The last thing that i even want to think about is having to go to a grocery store to 1.) look for parking 2.) contemplate what it is i want 3.) stand in line. I guess you can say I have no patience. I heard about grocery delivery services on face book like Insta cart and Walmart. I tired using those services but I wasn't to thrilled with the quality of my products. Most of the items i received from Walmart were expired or damaged. It was almost as if it reflected the same experience you would have if you had went in yourself. Which I again have no patience for. Let me tell you when I saw the insta cart delivery guy pull up in street clothes and no way to really tell that he was the person delivering my groceries i will say I was skeptical to open my door. Especially because I live on my own. All this heavy rain is new to me and I quiet honestly am trying to avoid driving at any rate even if it is just down the street. Literately because the Almaden Expwy store my order came out of is about a 10 min drive away from my house. Last night I decided to use Safeway's service and I am sooooo happy that I did. A BIG thanks to the driver Mark and the young lady at the store Julie who were able to make this first experience a great one. This morning I called the store at 6am and Julie answered. Since this isn't my first rodeo I know what it is like to not get the items you ordered.I wanted to talk to her about items that could potentially not be available. When talking she stated that she could not find my order. When looking at the details of my order I noticed I made a mistake and selected the wrong date. Thankfully she advised me that it wasn't too late to change my delivery window to be delivered later in the evening. I told her I would do so and selected for my order to be delivered between 5-6. She told me she would look out for my order and call me to discuss if there were any items that were not available. At around 12pm I got a call from Julie stating that they did not have the garlic bread that i ordered available and offered an alternative. Although they didnt have what i wanted it was one item and i was more so happy that she not only remembered to look out for my order but actually called me back. At 5pm on the dot I got a call from the driver Mark who advised that he had arrived as per my notes to the driver. Mark arrived to my door in a Safeway uniform with the friendliest attitude. I was already excited to have my groceries brought to me but Mark and Julie made my experience all the more welcoming. He asked if there was a specific place I wanted my order to be brought since it was heavy. He waited while i checked through all my items and I told him how excited I was to receive my delivery and he could not stop raving about how much he enjoys his job. I tried to offer him a tip but he respectfully declined and stated that delivering groceries is what hes here to do. Although I insisted he still would not take the tip. I was surprised to have met someone who did not expect a reward for doing his job. Its great to see such positivism on a gloomy day like this. Thanks a bunch!!!! read more

Safeway's vary greatly by their local market. Some are awesome, some are divey. I was at one in the gay area of Seattle that was decorated to the hilt in vibrant colors, and one in barrios where you'd think they'd sell ammo. Based on the reviews of the city dwellers, San Fran Safeway's must have some mean people, as I have been to many that were friendly! I have been to this one many times over the years I have been coming to Russian River. If you review it in it's context, Guerneville, its pretty good. No the seafood section isn't awesome. Meats and produce aren't bad. Like many Safeway's they source local wines, so Russian River varietals abound, at reasonable prices.... Theoretically, this is also a great place to go, buy Gatorade bottles, tequila, triple sec and margarita mix, dump out the Gatorade, and then smuggle gringo margaritas into a venue. This of course is only a theory, I would never actually do this. read more

Eh, hit and miss. We've ordered all of our groceries from them for a month or two now, and every order seems to be missing something, but they usually have it listed in the "Out of stock" portion of the invoice the delivery person gives you when they drop off your order. When it isn't, you have to contact customer service and let them know of the error, upon which they'll kindly refund you your money, no questions asked. When you order from these guys, just make sure you allow substitutions and you have backups in your fridge of everything. Nothing could be more convenient than delivered groceries, but in order to make this service worthwhile, make sure your dinner-making plans are flexible and you order multiple meals, so if Safeway suddenly decides they don't have a single bit of iceberg lettuce at their store to give you (really, Safeway?) then you can just take what they gave you and order the missing ingredient again next time. Just cross your fingers. Delivery people are super friendly, and usually on time, except when they royally screw up and completely forget your order. Yeah. I hope these guys get their act together, because at its best, this service overall has been SPECTACULAR, and at its worst it can be a completely frustrating MESS. read more

Unfortunately, this is the closest safeway to me... the lines are always long due to understaffed checkers, the shelves are rarely stocked due to ???, and the customer service attendant is almost never to be seen! The selections are weak and the bathrooms are used as showers for the local river rats (a term of endearment). I find myself often going the extra forty five minute round trip difference to go to the Healdsburg Safeway or the Montecito Safeway in SR... Too bad Food for humans is so expensive and limited... I have been using safeway delivery since November 2014 and I have to say considering I don't have a car and considering that I order A LOT of items, safeway delivery has been a LIFE SAVER!! I use Safeway delivery for food items which are perishable(dairy, frozen, meats/seafood, green vegetables) which complements my online delivery shopping mainly using Google Express Shopping (GES) for most of my needs [such as bulk items (50 lb rice), fruits, certain vegetables(onions, garlic, tomatoes, potatoes), breads, toilet paper, detergent from Costco, packaged items & snacks from Costco/Smart&Final/Whole Foods, etc, and cat litter-cat food from PetSmart, Costco, Smart&Final, Target, etc.] Google Express only costs $10/month for unlimited deliveries. I've read the past reviews for Safeway delivery and I do NOT understand how their experiences have been so bad since ALL my experiences with safeway have been if not excellent, at least very good. They arrive on time and usually I only have 2 to 3 items that they substitute and/or can't get for me, but they ARE able to get me my other 25 or more items!! This is a DELIGHTFUL MASSIVE CHANGE compared to a decade ago when I used them and I would be lucky to even get HALF my order! You can even reschedule your delivery or update your order before 8:30 am (4:00 pm - 9:00 pm deliveries) or 3:00 am (9:00 am - 3:00 pm deliveries). You can NOT modify your order on GES -you would have to QUICKLY CANCEL THE ENTIRE ORDER ASAP AND REORDER THE WHOLE ORDER AGAIN, WHICH ALSO MEANS YOUR SCHEDULED DELIVERY DATE/TIME CAN CHANGE TO A LATER DATE WITHOUT A SPECIFIC TIME, ESP. IF IT'S AT A TIME/DAY WHEN OTHER GOOGLE CONSUMERS ARE ALSO PLACING ORDERS!!!. e.g. Let's say it's during a busy holiday season or on a thursday/friday payday and you're shopping google. If you placed your google express order for tomorrow from 9am to 1pm, then 1 minute later suddenly realize you needed to add/delete items so you cancel the order and redo your order (which means creating a new order), then the delivery date can change to 2 days later anytime from 9am to 10pm!!! I'm on the 2nd floor up a ladder of stairs and safeway delivers ALL my grocery UP THOSE STAIRS!! And I don't have to tip. What's great about safeway delivery also is that they offer the card club discount prices online for their food items just like actually being in the store. Also, the more block of time you give them to deliver the items, the more of a delivery fee discount you get. $49 worth of food items is the minimum in order to get delivery. $150 is the next minimum for a discount on the delivery fee which is pretty steep so I only order once a month but I make sure I have my list as fully prepared as I can before I order. I can even spend a half a week browsing the online food aisles (meat, fruits, frozen, etc) just adding/removing items from my online food cart and won't press the CHECKOUT button until I'm SURE I've got everything I need. Their website is VERY BASIC BUT FUNCTIONAL so it's easy to navigate - whch I know is very difficult on some websites like Instacart and Amazon Fresh. I have NEVER had a problem with freshness or frozen items. My fruits and vegetables are ALWAYS fresh and my frozen items like ice cream or frozen food has NEVER been melted or bad-tasting since they have refrigerator-like conditions in their massive safeway vans. Now of course, they're not going to have EVERY item online as they do in their physical stores, but most of the most common ones should be up there. Except for my all-favorite persian cucumbers, I have never had trouble finding anything else on my list. They DO have a frequent shortage of CERTAIN ORGANIC items. I don't have a problem getting my organic salads or organic milk, but I DO have trouble when I ask for minor organic items like organic cucumbers, so nowadays, I also add in their "Notes" area that they can substitute non-organic cucumbers. Another frequent category I have trouble with is in their bakery section. I have no problems buying Safeway's sweet french bread, but 3 out of 4 times I've ordered a cake or pie from their bakery fresh category and they've failed to deliver them. It's not that big a deal for me since they're not crucial to me, but it's something I notice. I LOVE their liquor aisle. I use wine frequently to cook. The variety is HIGH with wines for as little as $3 per bottle here. But just be aware that the deliverer will ask to see your California ID card to check your age just like GES. Safeway is so customer-oriented that one time, I had a problem with my credit card DECLINING my purchases because they were afraid of fraud (since I also shop at Target and Walmart and ebay and amazon), Safeway called me up ON DELIVERY DAY morning to let me know of this problem so I could clear it up with my bank before they delivered that morning! Luckily, I was able to speak to my bank AGAIN and have them speak with safeway to allow the delivery. read more

Our first 4 orders arrived on time and were relatively accurate (although we always received extra items that we did not pay for). It is super convenient to not have to drive the store, shop for groceries, unload the car and then seach for another parking spot at home. Unfortunately, we finally were on the short end of the stick for our last delivery. Our bananas were so smashed that only 2 out of 10 are edible, during delivery a yogurt cup was smashed and got over all the items in that bad, two eggs were also smashed in delivery and spilled over all items in the bag, and finally, they picked the wrong soup that I ordered. All of that time saved was wasted as I had to clean off individual items before putting them away. But it doesn't stop there, our driver never showed up for our scheduled time. After reaching him on his cell phone, he said he would be there in 15 minutes, and again, a no show so we had to wait until Monday morning. he even lied to me and said that he stopped by twice for delivery, eventhough i was home the entire time. very disappointing. overall, they are decent for groceries that are in boxes or plastic, but sub-par for produce. read more

I ordered my groceries yesterday and they never showed! When I called in the morning the customer service said that the had a computer glitch and they didn't receive my order. I gave her my conformation but it did not matter! I had to order everything again! Because their customer service doesn't open till 8am my delivery won't be till 8pm tonight! When I went to reorder their computer system gave me an error! I finally got it to go through after an 2 hours of trying! I'm currently been on hold for over an hour to speak with someone! It's been good the last two or three deliveries, but there were two deliveries where I signed the paperwork before inspecting the bags, big mistake. Items were missing. Be careful if they hand you the clipboard first, don't accept it. Make a list of what you are expecting in advance and keep it by the door, or printout your confirmation email and keep it handy. On another occasion, when ordering I chose the option to substitute an item of the same brand but a different size and since they didn't have that item in any size, it wasn't included. They could have given me that item in a different brand of the same or different size, but because in ordering you can only choose one option between "no substitutions," "same brand different size," or "same size, different brand,", it's a gamble, and you can't re-order with a different selection without buying a minimum of $50 worth of groceries. If they run into a problem with substitutions I wish they would call to see if I could change my options. Even thought it might be 3:00 AM, I can't get out to buy piecemeal replacements because of their stupid substitution system. So I broke my foot. Not the most ideal situation- especially when you have a fiance that works all day and a dog that needs to be taken care of. Safeway delivery seemed like a great option to get the food shopping done from home, rather than sending the fiance to find $200 worth of food in the little spare time he has between taking care of me and the dog. Either way. I ordered on Sunday- and to top it off, I revised my order several times (forgot a few things). Delivery time was set for Monday 10-12. The delivery man showed up at 12 on the dot. Were there a few substitutions that I normally wouldn't have done-sure. But for a $195 food order, I must say they did pretty great. Didn't miss a thing (minus the substitutions). Although I may have gotten double charged for tomoatoes, but for two dollars, not really worth my time to sit on the phone with customer service. I will definitely use them again, huge time saver!! read more

I am a local and the store is the only big one for groceries in town. They NEVER have enough help and the lines are long. The prices are reasonable if the items are on sale. The pharmacy staff is awesome and the employees do try to be friendly. As locals we know to avoid this place on event weekends as it is over crowded and they run out of items quickly. They do not offer double coupon days and rainchecks are a joke here. If you are on vacation and need something it is the place to go. read more

I have used this service multiple times in the past and it has only gotten worse. My first experience was amazing: driver ended up coming 15 minutes earlier than my time slot and was very generous. Recently, I've had two major issues with deliveries. On two occasions their system went down and my order was cancelled. I understand these things happen, but for one of those two times I didn't even receive a notice that my order was cancelled until well after my delivery time. Today was the final straw for me. Got my groceries delivered and found out I'm missing a large handful of items. To make things worse, I look at the receipt and found I was charged for the missing items (which totaled $43.57). I'm on the phone right now trying to reach their customer service line, but have been on hold for nearly 20 minutes. Save yourself the headache and don't use this service. read more

The employees at this store are the most friendly I have ever encountered at a grocery store. Also the chicken strips here are amazing at the deli. Wonderful store and employees at this store. Getting your groceries delivered sounds pretty easy especially if you only go once every few weeks or so. I love grocery shopping but when I go I bring back bags and bags of food. Very hard to travel with from my location and I don't like Cala Foods that much. So I tried the Safeway.com delivery service. They charge ranges from 7 to 10 bucks and sometimes they will email you free delivery coupons. Ive used this service maybe 5 times. 3 out of the 5 they were late and occasionally the produce isn't that fresh. I would spend a lot of time online just making a darn grocery list. Sometimes its so much easier just being their and picking exactly what you want and taking a cab home for 7 to 10 bucks. They have this feature where you can check if you would like any of your items sub'ed for something else if it isn't available. I always say no subs but they always bring something to sub it with and thats a pain. I can be pretty picky about selection of food and Webster st doesn't seem to have a whole lot. Who ever heard of canned pumpkin not being available at Safeway in the fall/winter? read more

Worst customer service EVER!!! The first time I tried the service, I had a two-hour window and waited 20 minutes PAST the window to call customer service. The gentleman was clueless as to why it was late and put it onto the driver. Eventually my delivery showed up, almost an hour later than window, and I was given a $25 credit to use for the next time. I was hesitant, but tried them again with my credit and 2nd time driver was actually a bit early (I wasn't home yet so he had to wait for me). This was better than late and the delivery person was very nice. On Friday, Nov. 17th I had another delivery set up. My window was for between 7-8pm. At 8:05 my delivery was not there and I began to call the Customer Service line. I got put on hold. 8:15, still on hold so I try emailing while still on hold (speaker). No response via email. 8:30...still on hold on the phone. I send another email. No response. 8:45-BINGO, someone FINALLY answers. Although apologetic and nice enough, the gentleman on the line has NO IDEA why I have not received my delivery. I cancel my order. I email yet again to find out what, if anything, they could tell me on their end as to what happened and why the delivery never showed. NOTHING until Sunday from them and it was a generic email saying, "Thank you for writing in. We apologize for the delay in responding to your email. Our records indicate that you have already contacted our Customer Support Center regarding your question or concerns. Thank you for shopping with us. Jacqueline Safeway Grocery Delivery Team" REALLY????!! WTF?? Long story short, they are the worst. I will never use this service again and will never step foot in one of their stores. A total disregard for their customers and the issues at hand. Clueless!! read more

What a cute store. Great place to stock up for the weekend when I go up to Russian River. It has that small town feeling where people actually well talk to you and say hi to you while shopping. I am sure the shock on my face the first time was interesting for these pleasant people. Good deli, grab a sandwich and ice tea for the beach or grab something to grill back to your vacation rental. Love the Starbucks inside as well. read more

Safeway.com is such a convenient service. I don't have to go to the grocery store, which involves either spending lots of money at Bristol Farms (across the street) or Whole Foods (0.5 miles away) or paying for a City Car Share to go to Safeway. Also, shopping online eliminates a lot of the impulse buys. Getting our food delivered right to our door (up four floors and down a long hallway) takes the trouble out of grocery shopping. I've used this service four times, and three times delivery was completely free and the fourth time it was discounted. The delivery was always made during the early portion the window (and if it was a few minutes early, I was called to make sure it was okay). The delivery person is always nice and friendly. The first time I tried to tip, he refused and suggested we leave positive feedback (which I did). A couple of times, something was not delivered, but it only takes a simple email or phone call to get the reimbursement straightened out. The only thing bad about online grocery shopping (in general) is that the variety/availability of items isn't as great as in the store. But the convenience far outweighs the hassle of physically going to the grocery store. read more

This is specifically about Rebecca who was tending the deli at Safeway at about 10 a.m. on July 10. I didn't realize such courteous, gracious and attentive people existed anymore, especially behind Safeway's deli counter, but here was Rebecca, quietly brimming with enthusiasm and eager to help. It was like walking into Tiffany's and having the salesperson treat you like you were Elizabeth Taylor or Elizabeth R.! Are these slices too thick? Do you want a taste? Oh we have four different kinds-would you like to taste them? Fast efficient and determined to get it exactly right without being pushy about it! Told her half my life's story, got a book recommendation, a warm smile and a big hug.... Who knew I would find such a gem behind Safeway's deli counter? I certainly hope management sees this and gives her as many kudos as she can fit in her pocket! read more

Like some other responders, I've been sick for nearly a week and, living alone, have run low on supplies. No other grocery deliveries seem to exist in this city (SF) if google is any basis to judge. Cool! EASY7 is the promo that gives you free delivery for your first order. Hm, the selection isn't great, but I can at least avoid starvation and running out of toilet paper. Filled out many fields, clicked many buttons...and requested the 10-12 window yesterday. At 3:30 I tried to figure out who to call, but there's no human you can talk to about a missing delivery - you must fill out an online form. I gave up and, bundled to my eyeballs, staggered out to the corner liquor store and got enough to stay alive another couple days. This afternoon I got an email with a customer service phone number, urging me to call them to resolve this. Cheeky! After about 10 min listening to a weird selection of music, I got a tired sounding lady with a slow computer. Eventually she asked about my zip code. What?...oh yeah. Look - I put in the wrong zip code. Wait, what do zip codes have to do with deliveries to street addresses? She was apologetic and said she didn't know why it was this way, it just was. Then she pointed out I'd be charged for this order, then refunded at some point. Also: I've used up my promo code. She said she'd try to get that reimbursed, and all I need to do now is go in My Account and change my delivery zip code, and re-do my order. No. Their allocation of my time and goodwill has been used up. Next time I'm sick and need groceries, I'll taxi to and from the nearest grocery store, or owe a friend a favor. I know about these robot-driven, outsourced customer service, not-very-interesting to management kinds of systems. Forget it. read more
