I kind of like this Safeway location. I wasn't sure about it when I first saw it. To me it looks like they are trying to make it a cross between a Safeway and a Whole Foods. After looking around and having several more visits, I've decided that it's not bad. It isn't my favorite Safeway (the one by my house seems larger) but it's still nice. There have been live demonstrations twice (cleaners and knives) while I've been there which is kind of fun. I also like that they have parking above with an elevator that goes into the store. New, large store. Handicapped scooters are near each elevator at the far ends of the store. The one drawback for me is that I had to walk around the elevator to get a scooter and getting help in the aisles took a long time. The staff is wonderful. I could not get the scooter started so I went to the nearest staff person (flower shop) and asked the woman to please call someone to come and help me. She came right out from behind her counter and showed me how to do it. Later on I couldn't reach a product on the top shelf. I asked the pharmacy to call someone. They did, but the person did not come for awhile. Another customer offered to help and he took down the front row of products but couldn't reach the back bottles. by then the staffer came and helped. I had a huge order and the cashier got someone to help right away. That staff member was efficient and courteous getting me to my car, unloading, and returning the scooter. read more

I love Safeway primarily for the variety in their produce and weekly specials they offer. It feels leisure to shop around during off peak hours. Neatly decked on shelves I haven't had a bad experience ever. I always end up picking some goodies mainly because of their trademark associated with safeway. I love that they have quinoa pasta variety which is usually available in very limited stores. The staff were pretty friendly whenever I asked for their help. Vegetables are as fresh as it gets and great price as well. Overall a neat and healthy family shopping. There is a Starbucks inside Safeway and on my way back from shopping I was end up picking something from Starbucks. read more

I often stop at various grocery stores at a time to get different things. I go to the least expensive first, get what I can then go to the next, because I buy a lot of organic, gluten-free and other high quality pricey foods. I made the mistake of stopping here before going to Whole Foods. I couldn't believe this Safeway was more expensive on many items than Whole Foods!!! It's got a good selection of a lot of items but in most cases the prices are jacked up. At the cash registers there were only two cashiers, one at the express lane. So I could either put some items back or wait a long time. Luckily, the woman at the self-check said I could go in the express lane. It's a nice Safeway, sure. Pretty isn't everything. High prices and lack of cashiers make it only a quick stop for me in the future. I spent near a hundred dollars here at this trip. I appreciate the natural items that are here, so I will be back. But next time I'll stop to grab one or two items I can't find elsewhere and shop at Trader Joes and Whole Foods for better prices and better selection. read more

Solid Safeway. I mostly only go during off-peak hours. There was one thing that immediately got my attention about this Safeway - rooftop parking - along with convenient carts and a massive elevator that will take you directly into the store. There is ample parking, the store is clean, the aisles are large, and there is plenty of variety. Plus, it's open 24 hours, so you can get almost anything at any time. read more

Safeway online shopping is a mess. After being a loyal customer for years they have really let their operation fall apart. On my last THREE (3) deliveries the driver never showed up *NO PHONE CALL, NO WARNING, NO INQUIRY*. When I called to verify if I was in fact getting my order they informed me they couldn't contact the driver and to wait or reschedule. Either way they couldn't say if my order would show up. On the 3rd "NO SHOW" I called to ask why there was not one phone call, in ANY of the delivery screw ups, was not made. Bigger isn't always better. Poor customer service but good selection of regular and organic foods. The produce lady snapped at me for asking where the bananas are and then the self-check machines are so over sensitized it took 15 minutes to check out. Each scan paused and needed a clerk to reset, some of the items like bulk foods were not on the list. While she was running around helping the others on their machines the assistant manager refused to help me. I'll stick with Whole Foods as well. read more

Took me 20 minutes just to get to the checker. Really? This Safeway location is new, shiny, and huge. Shopping there is almost always a terrible experience however and I now only go there once in a while to get cut flowers (they often have bunches of nice red carnations on sale for less than $5). The problems with this store are many (1) too huge to find things quickly; (2) so big that employees often don't know where things are and are reluctant to show you despite store policy; (3) there are vast shiny rows of fruit and produce but their navel oranges are frequently dried out and terrible (so I don't buy them there anymore); (4) ice cream selection poor despite store size; (5) parking is terrible due to poorly laid out grid and access (borderline unsafe because no marked walkways into the store itself). (I could probably add another half dozen items to list but you get the point.) read more

Sandwich bar closes at 7pm. Came in closer to 6 and the rude employee behind the counter said he was closed. He said it takes him a while to clean up so he stops serving at 5. Safeway, explain to me why you advertise sandwich bar closing at 7 when it closes at 5? That means you need to stay open until 7... false advertising! read more

It's freezing inside the store! If you have a cold, I recommend steering clear unless you want to get more cold. I was wearing a thick coat and it still felt freezing, especially near the open refrigeration aisles. Well, at least food is kept well-preserved. I also dislike their parking lot -- it's somewhat cramped, hard to maneuver. I hear they have a parking garage though. read more

Customer service is absolute gonkery. These people would not survive a day in Europe. Beware that the elevators shutdown at 10 pm without warning. Asking for a manager is totally worthless because It's somebody else's fault and they don't have access. If you have purchased groceries late and parked in the upstairs garage, you could be in for an expedition outside. Also, I hear they randomly wide swaths of the store for inventory, restocking and cleaning. It should simply not be a 24/7 store if it is not ready for customers, or this brand will continue to accrue negative impressions. Never returning. read more

Fanciest Safeway that I have ever been in. It seems that this location was designed to compete with the Whole Foods just around the corner. There are many more choices for upscale cooking, such as a large selection of cheeses and a wine corner. Came here for a breakfast burrito when i was running late for a meeting. when i got to the counter there was no one there so was getting antsy. Some other staff members/managers saw me and called the person out which was nice. She made my burrito quickly which was nice but then when i left and took a bite i found that the potato wedges were cold- it was disgusting :( its sure it was a one time thing but i was pretty bummed. read more

This is a review specifically about the floral department. My son ordered his prom corsage here. It was a wrist corsage composed of one rose, baby's breath and some ribbon. The bill was $31.60. Considering a dozen roses are $10 this is really excessive. The other Safeway in Mountain View that we usually visit sells them for much less. I have called the store many times to talk with the manager but neither the floral department or the manager pick up the phone which adds to my frustration. read more

This new one on San Antonio has a parking lot on the roof, so the parking situation is a little bit better, but street level parking is quite tight. Clean, wide aisles. I like this newly renovated Safeway. Safeway's deli chicken tenders (and potato wedges) are one of take out's best kept secrets. I also like the bulk foods bins this Safeway has. There are a few areas for improvement: 1) Post hours for the deli so I know whether I have time to pick up chicken tenders 2) Allow online orders for the deli so items can be prepared for me when I arrive (leave orders in cooler or hot bin if I want to pick up after the deli is closed) 3) More/more attentive staff 4) have someone available in case I want to buy a cake from the display in the evening read more

I wish there was a thumbs down button. Time after time I go in there they are not adequately staffed at the check out registers. Monday morning....one checker. Ordered a cake from the bakery. Made specific instructions where I wanted the writing and flowers. When I picked it up it was all wrong and they spent less than 30 seconds writing the words. There was no care in the writing. A 4 year old could have done better. The person said they could not put the amount of flowers they applied the way I requested. But they put more than I requested. They didn't bother with how I wanted rather defaulted to their standard cake design. DON'T GO HERE IF YOU WANT QUALITY. read more

this review is for the bakery, where there is a secret word-of-mouth local gem: Jay. Jay has a true gift as a cake decorating artist. I hope she is still there. If you can get a cake by Jay, you are very lucky! I was planning my wedding with my four seasons taste and motel 6 budget, and i was NOT going to spend a ton on a cake that i knew most people wouldn't even eat. I had just moved to the area, and word of mouth was that this Safeway was known as "THE" bakery. As soon as I saw what in the display case that day, I knew why. Among other things, there was a 2 layer complex graduated ombre cake for just the flat $40 price. Jay makes custom cakes to rival ANY elite bakery; just bring in photos to show what you want. She is such a delight to work with! We did not want a "wedding" cake. I wanted a simple black & white geometric Art Deco design. Which, if you know about cake decorating, is NOT simple. Black is nearly impossible to mix, white is nearly impossible to achieve without being inedible (butter is yellow, after all) and making hard straight clean lines with that much contrast? Enough to wreck your nerves. And yet: delivered perfection in looks and in flavor. Rather than spending several hundred dollars, it was closer to $50 and honestly, nothing else I tasted at any bridal event open houses was better. We had real cream frosting (not that awful margarine fake 'buttercream' that coats your mouth with a waxy feeling) and it was amazing. I was cautious, and at that price I ordered a test cake a few weeks before to see if it could be done. We were amazed, and shared it with all of our neighbors who could NOT believe it was a "supermarket cake". And, in the end, it was budget caution well-placed; our caterer despite being elite themselves, um, forgot to serve our cake to our guests after the bride & groom cutting photo op, and we found that out at the end of the night when it was still intact on the table! So let that be a warning to budget brides that cake is a place to NOT overspend... read more

This Safeway is pretty good, as far as these places go. I don't get why the reviews are so bad. They're well-stocked, the layout makes sense, and the employees are friendly and helpful. The store is very clean and well-maintained. Some sections, like the liquor aisle, could use more merchandise. The whole experience is above average. read more

This REVIEW is for the Deli department, specifically one of the team members whose name is "florencina". I believe it was amazing costumer service. I stopped there during the lunch hour just to buy a salad and I was just window shopping by the sandwich counter when she came over to greet me and recommended me the turkey pesto sandwich wich was DELISh! And the her friendly approach made it even better. I think I will leave subway for safeway deli now. I like this Safeway. All employees I've met are very nice people: professional, helpful and friendly. It is a very well lit store, clean and well run. One of the best thing about this Safeway is the quality of their rotisserie chicken and bagels. The chicken is superb: moist, flavorful, beautifully browned - delicious. They know how to make rotisserie chicken right. The other item is their bagels. I lived in NY. I've eaten great bagels before. I don't know where these bagels are coming from: the store baked or somewhere. It's very difficult to achieve the right bagel texture and taste. These people got it right. To all employees of this Safeway: Thank you for doing a great job. I hope the corporate office management will acknowledge these people great service. read more

I always write to complain about this store online found on the receipts. But nothing is ever done. They need to keep the self checkout open at nite because they can't keep up with the rush. Another cashier at Sprouts across the street complained to me about customer service here not helping him out rite away and made him wait while customer service guy was having a conversation. So they had a promotion this week - grilled chicken for $4.99. Decided to do chicken tonight and went to the new location on San Antonio road to pick it up. They were out of it. REALLY! So they put a promotion in the newspapers, but forgot to order some chicken to grill :). -1 Star . I can get chicken but only after an hour. Thank You, I had rather pick up my chicken from Whole foods. Checked out and mentioned to the lady at the counter - just got some shrugs , no sorry, no explanation -1 there. Went to the customer service counter - the African American women at the counter says -"They ran out of chicken". No Mam, YOU ran out of chicken today . -1 there. Today I stood in line at the checkout at this Safeway for 20 MINUTES! Only half the checkstands were open, and each checkout line had 10 or more people in it. According to one of the store employees, the checkstands were not all open because some of the employees were doing an audit. Really? At 5 pm on a Sunday evening? One of their busiest times!? They couldn't do this at 8 am on Sunday morning? And then, of course, when I finally did get checked out I had to bag my own groceries because there was no bagger. I was willing to pass that off as an accident and not mention it here, but when I went to return it, there were no apologies and the behavior of the person handling the return was quite rude. - On multiple occasions they have not honored "Just for U" coupons (or cited "exclusions" which you cannot find out about in advance of the check-out line. There certainly isn't any fine print online to indicate such "exclusions".) - Mobile site completely inoperative - Coupons advertised in-store as available on "Just for U" site are not actually there Summary: they lure you into the store with coupons and proclaimed deals, but then do not honor them. Without the coupons Safeway is much more expensive than other local stores (Trader Joes, Sprouts, Whole Foods, etc.) which definitely have higher quality (and more sanitary!) foods . read more
