I shop at this Safeway location fairly often because it's on my way home from work. The store is generally clean and well stocked. I can usually find someone up front to assist me if I need help and check-out is fairly quick. I check-out with a cashier or at the self-serve area depending on how many items I have and usually don't have to wait long in either line. The scanners can sometime be a bit fussy in either line. They occasionally won't pick up a bar code or sometime scan an item twice. This applies to both the cashier and self-checkout line, which usually has an attendant to help. One odd thing I've occasionally seen at this store is some of the male workers filming people in the parking lot and than laughing at the video. They usually involve incidents where two people might be arguing or someone might be heavier than average. That's not cool guys. You're not always at your best either. Would you like customers filming you? Please stop that. Aside from that, the store is generally nice to shop at. read more

Seriously, I grew up like everyone else with Peppermint Ice cream and it tasted great like old fashioned. Why do you make only peppermint LIGHT ice cream????? Vegetarian/vegan reviewer: I really like this Safeway for the most part- it's not one of the biggest Safeways and the one on San Antonio is bigger. But I am here to scream and raise a very important point. Please Safeway acknowledge and do better! I am extremely annoyed - how can you not be explicit in saying that a tomato basil bisque is non-vegetarian! It contains chick broth and rendered chicken fat. I came to this page specifically to shout out the butcher department after my husband and I were talking about how consistently amazing the staff is (everyone)! I was shocked to see all of these negative reviews. We come here all the time and I've rarely had any problems. Be aware of the difference between face-to-face and premium delivery. Customer service's response to my $300 order being left in the lobby instead of delivered to my apartment was, 'Unfortunately, there are no available stores to do that near your area.' This was in the middle of Silicon Valley--ridiculous. If this policy exists, it's definitely buried in the fine print. Worst customer service period. The flower shop person was extremely rude to me when I was trying to figure out what to buy for my girlfriend. On top of that she seems like trying to up sell the least liked flowers too. Very disappointed at how she handled the situation. Your better bet is probably going to another flower shop, paying a bit more premium for much better flowers. The Starbucks inside also has terrible customer service. It was extremely slow for what it's worth. I know the barista isn't paid on volume of order but oh my goodness. I waited 20 mins as the 3rd person in line and additional 15 mins for a drink maybe with 4 people. Your best bet is driving to downtown Mountain View and go to that Starbucks or 1oz coffee. read more

While I've seen some of the negative reviews of the store, I've consistently had excellent customer service from this store during my 30 years of shopping here. My example again is the meat department and specifically, Deacon the butcher. I was looking for a meat order but I told him that I could wait until after the recent holiday to come back. I went back on Monday as committed and Deacon was able to help me with all that I needed. Major kudos to Deacon and the meat department. He's a superstar. Btw, he's the same guy that helped me with a prior review. I didn't get his name before. But again, I've always received great service here which is why I continue to shop here. I had a verbal confrontation with the store manager "Jeff" (not sure that's really his name because he was hiding his employee badge from me by walking away). I was at the self checkout register when I needed help with a transaction. I called for help but nobody would answer and "Jeff" was busy chitchatting with his colleagues. I snapped my fingers to get "Jeff's" attention, but apparently that really hurt his fragile ego. Jeff asked to me leave my groceries and leave the store because he didn't like the way I got his attention LOL. So then Jeff forcibly placed some of my groceries back, but another employee intervened and fixed the self checkout transaction for me. I ended up making purchase for rest of the items because I did not want let Jeff to bully me out of the store. All this over Jeff misunderstanding the situation. I mean, really, who put this man child in charge of the store? Corporate Safeway needs to investigate this further and fire this employee because he hates his job and harasses customers. It's near from m my home so is a place I will do Shooping there even about complaining. My particular issue was I was requesting to the lady 10 spicy hot wings and she gave me the smallest ones with less meat. I just left the bag she gave me on the whole chicken section. Attention Managers, these workers are trying to keep the cooked chicken for them at the end of the night, because the cooked chicken that was not sold cannot remain for the next day. Lovely staff. Nice clean store. I have always found Safeway to be at least a 4 star store. BUT corporate Safeway engages in deceptive business practices. They freely mix items on sale with items they charge full price for. And when you get to the checkout, you get nailed with the tab. I love the staff, but the management and the corporate office need to shape up. I have gotten shafted way too many times, buying what I thought was on sale only to find out I paid full price when I checked the recites. Again, the staff is sympatico. I like this store. Management is always much too busy to have a conversation, but the line employees are nice, and the store isn't kept at 30 degrees like some Safeways. Biggest problem is that there are no cold caffeine-free/sugar-free sodas available in the register coolers. No diet root beer, no diet Sprite, no diet ginger ale, no diet 7-Up. Just diet Coke, which many seniors can't have because it has caffeine. IF my walker and I make our way to the deli area, about one time in three, there's a single diet something rolling around, but usually not. I'd give them 5 stars if they'd add cold diet sodas to their coolers! read more

This place needs some love. It's been my family's go-to for years and the service has been fantastic. Shelves are stocked neatly, the produce is fresh, and I can't count on them when I need a box of late night oreos. Casual fans may not know this, but safeway sushi is actually pretty good in a pinch along with their deli sandwhiches. The staff here is fun. Make some conversation next time you're in line. I have been using their curb-side grocery service for 2 years since the pandemic. I can usually put my order in the morning and within a few hours, I just drive up, call and within 10 minutes they are loading my groceries in the trunk. They rarely get my order wrong after all this time - no one's perfect but I'm writing this review to recognize Angela who manages the online - drive-up grocery service. There were some substitutions in my recent order which I couldn't use. She took care of the reimbursement immediately. She understands customer service and how to manage situations for the customer. This is one of the branches of Safeway that was nice and clean at one point in time, and as of late it seems to have let itself go. The rating comes from the cashier that helped my dad and I. She was switching another cashier out and she did not look she wanted to be there. Everything was routine with no greeting or farewell. The lady before her was cheerful and super helpful, but the new lady just didn't want to be there. It is important for people to know that customer service is key. You can have all the great ingredients you want, but if you are not there to meet the needs of the people who are paying your biweekly check, it would be best to find another job or to get therapy. There are so many people who cannot work or who are unable to work. I do understand that people can be overworked and sometimes the pay and ours that are offered are not always ideal. Whatever that struggle, however, it should be taken up with the proper management and not taken out on the people shopping there. read more

Absolutely the worst Safeway I've ever been to. Hope you don't plan on going to enjoy a nice comfortable shopping experience. I have never felt so physically uncomfortable in my life shopping for groceries. It is currently 52 degrees inside the store. Freeeeezing. The fridges and freezers regularly break down at this location so to circumnavigate having to do a big renovation or repair on their cooling units they decide to leave the entire store sub freezing temperatures. This Safeway location is not as fancy as the newest one by El Camino & San Antonio. The selection of pre-made sandwiches and wraps is decent. They are freshly made too! Lines at the cash lanes were rather long, although they did call a few additional cashiers to help reduce the express check out lines! I've been to this Safeway a few times, for non-food items, and I have to say ... it's pretty average. I do find that the staff here is helpful because I'm often here looking for (1) flowers, (2) balloons or (3) some other odd necessity that you would not really come to Safeway for, but they just happen to have it. The parking lot is a bit of a mess, and it is EPIC at 5pm. Avoid after work hours (go to happy hour instead!) and come here early mornings when things are more sane. read more

Every time I come here, I instantly regret it. They somehow never seem to have what I'm looking for, and the checkout lines are always too long. It doesn't matter what time of day it is; they're always long. Nighttime is especially bad, as they usually only have one or two checkout lines open and lines stretching into the aisles. I just don't get it. On my last visit here - to get just one thing - I paid for my $1.69 purchase with a $20 bill and nine pennies. I was just trying to get rid of them! When I wake up in the morning, I just can't wait to spend an hour in the grocery store! That sound of carts slamming into each other and reverberating off the half rotten produce is music to my ears. Grabbing onto an avocado and thinking to myself, "does it feel like poking my finger into a spongy sea anemone or a rock?" It's always a fun game of grocery store roulette to purchase some fresh produce and find a deep, dark black hole that smells like rotting garbage in the middle! Mountain View is full of interesting Safeway's. This one doubles as the parking lot for shows at Shoreline. I mean you get all your normal groceries and then you get a random group of people depending on what show is going on down the road. I remember one time the Grateful Dead ( I think minus Jerry Garcia) played and the place was just straight up overrun with hippies. This is a rather standard Safeway located in Mountain View. The prices are okay but definitely have their club card otherwise you're going to be overpaying. The aisles are kind of small, and the Starbucks is located awkwardly in the front of the store (not really segregated from the grocery store). I would definitely not go out of my way to go here obviously but it functions well as a grocery store. read more
