So as those who read my reviews know I don't often write about grocery stores. But I went to give them a rating today and decided to write a comment after multiple positive experiences shopping her. First , at least my experience from customer service side is excellent. From the person who offered help me find and item , to the friendly helpful deli staff to the self check out attendant, super positive and helpful. I also usually find something at this store that I can't at others. Today it was Cheerios , new one strawberry and apple with vegetable nutrition ... nobody else has that as I've seen. Store also has a Starbucks inside , I didnt use it but always a line. This story is also great as no matter what time I go it never over crowded , so easy in and easy out. It's clean and well stocked. So I have to say my experience is a 5 star and I thank the staff working today ! read more

Worst. Produce. Ever! You would think being up here so close to the heartland where all the food is grown, that we'd get some of the freshest produce in America!??? NO! The two Safeway stores in Sunnyvale have some of the foulest, most rotten produce ever! I genuinely do not understand how safeway stays open. It has consistently been the most outrageous prices. Especially for meat, produce, and fruits. Would come here like most for sodas or deal items. This is the worst Safeway I have ever been to, and unfortunately, it's the one closest to me. It's a crapshoot on whether or not they will have product that is on sale. This morning I needed help in the deli department. There were four people behind the counter and it was like they were having a competition to see who was gonna be the first one to break down and help with service. I wanted to get a cold rack of ribs that were on sale and they didn't have any on the floor. I asked if they were keeping them in a different location, and I was immediately told if they're not out there we don't have them. They wouldn't even check in the fridge to see if maybe they didn't put them out. They don't rotate their inventory while they are shelving. If you do shop here, check your expiration dates because a very high percentage of the dates have expired. They are still gouging their customers on the price of eggs. They charge almost double with the other stores in the vicinity are charging. I usually go to the Safeway just down the street in Sunnyvale, but this time I I wanted to get ribs and butter that were on sale. I stopped in and they had neither. read more

Great location, excellent management and good value. Love the $5 Friday deals. I enjoy the $5 Suchi, the deli deals and do not get the cornbread anymore because the price has increased $2, the container is smaller and no longer has the option of $4.95 without Jalapeños or $6.95 with Jalapeños. Teri the checkout clerk rolled here eyes at me tonight. Not going back. Safeway isn't cheap, clean or quality enough for me to give them my grocery money while an employee visually shows me their personal disdain for me. I was sleep walking after a tough day and while she was packing groceries with previous customer I moved in front of the pay station and started typing on it. She reprimanded me that previous customer wasn't done. I felt bad. I apologized profusely and shared I was so tired after a tough day and she actually felt entitled to roll her eyes at me while I apologized. Unreal. I shared my experience with the manager who cared less. Then as I roll out of this ghetto store and wheels on the cart lock. Unreal . Felipe's produce is cheaper and better, Trade Joe's staples are cheaper and Smart and Final meat is cheaper. Shopping there 20 plus years. Not shopping at a place where a clerk is so comfortable rolling her eyes at a customer. I know most of the clerks by name, I'm kind and friendly and help bag my groceries with them. Also - I rarely have a human clerk, and do the self-checkout. You'd think if they only have one clerk working she'd be pleasant with the customer. read more

parking lot is a little sketch- you got all kinds of people "hanging" out in the lot depending on what time of day whats nice about this location is that it's near a lot of other stores so if safeway doesn't have it, then theres a good chance that the neighboring stores will have it. tons of restaurants and small bite shops nearby too produce here is "fresher" and in better condition than other safeways ive been to (im lookin at you sunnyvale safeway) read more

This is about produce. Because when I go here the people are kind I don't have any issues. (Although I did have an interesting moment when a cashier called me a man..."Hello sir") now granted I was wearing baggy clothing with a durag on. But what can I expect in the Silicon Valley suburbs. LOL Sooooo I'm typically a lot more bougie with my produce. I'm a farmers market girl and if I can't hit the market I'm doing sprouts/Whole Foods but this store is walking distance as my car has been giving me issues. Their produce SUCKS. I've bought a lot of produce from them in recent times and I swear everytime I cut into something there's an issue. Tonight I was cutting sweet potato with the intent to roast them and there's like black moldy? Or dead? (Idk) spots all over and this is from the organic section! Also I bought some mini watermelons I cut into them and boom - soft just rotten. It's annoying because it's like damn... I'm on a cleanse so I'm juicing the things I buy - and I'm like this is what I get for sleeping in on Sat and missing the glorious farmers market that occurs in Sunnyvale. Long story short ; the produce here is questionable and unreliable proceed with caution. This is based off of me buying multiple items and cutting into them and having issues on MULTIPLE occasions. Decent Safeway. Not sure why the reviews are so low. They have all the stuff you really need at a Safeway including a ton of cheesecakes. You can't go wrong with cheesecakes. A pretty large location overall, and besides cheesecakes, they also have a ton of wine. Can't go wrong with that either. Clean and pretty easy to find what you're looking for. Thumbs up. read more

Safeway bought Andronico's where my son JJ works as a Courtesy Clerk. He used to work at the downtown Los Altos store. Andronico's is near our house and JJ just loves working here. Our Kindergarten class was given the opportunity to take a field trip to this Safeway, and the manager and staff (Khider & Josie as well as others) were so friendly and helpful, and we were so impressed by their organization and interactiveness. It's very heavy: as it cooled, it started to congeal; I'm sure it has a large dosage of saturated fat. THIS IS THE WORST SAFEWAY I'VE BEEN TO! CUSTOMER SERVICE IS ABSOLUTE TRASH! ZERO STARS! DO NOT ORDER YOUR CAKE HERE! I called the bakery Friday to place a cake order at 3:30-4pm. I gave the name that I wanted on the cake. And I EVEN spelt it out 3 TIMES for her!! When I went to go pick my order up around 10:30pm, it was spelt incorrectly. It was spelt THALIA. I told the guy that I will come back the next morning hoping the cake will be fixed. The next morning, my sister called to make sure the cake was there. Apparently, it wasn't. So she reordered a whole new cake. She asked for white and fresh strawberries cake with pink and purple balloons with streamers. When I went to go pick it up at 11:30am, the name was spelt correctly on the order, BUT INCORRECTLY ON THE CAKE!! And the streamers on the cake looked like a 5 year old did it. It was a complete mess. The cake decorator heard my complaint and decided to go on break. The store manager at the time (11:30am) heard my complaint and refused to fix any of it. They fixed the name, but refused to do anything. HE DID NOT EVEN APOLOGIZE ABOUT THE 3 TIMES THEY MADE A MISTAKE! RIDICULOUS! This is regarding the Safeway Pharmacy at 639, S. Bernardo in Sunnyvale. I got my vaccination shot for covid here. The pharmacist who administered the vax was rude right from the word go! First of all, she came in late and no apologies. It was not as if she was busy, I was the only one waiting there. After giving the shot, she's supposed to give proper instructions on countering pain, fever, etc. Even that she didn't do - she just mumbled something fast without caring to see if I heard her and without giving the full instructions! I have had the previous shots at PAMF and Stanford. The staff there were so polite, gentle and showed care. This person was a shocker! If you have other options, please choose them! read more

On 5-23-21 this Safeway over-charged me about $8.00. A paper coupon was involved and they did not process it correctly. I am glad I checked my receipt because one normally trusts the cashier to ring things up correctly. The good news is that a Safeway Employee was standing near customer service and saw me checking my receipt and asked if she could help. She summoned the cashier that made the mistake, and corrected it. The good news, Safeway employees actually helped. The bad news is that I was over charged $8.00 in the first place. The other bad news is that this is only the 2nd time in 2.5 months I have come here, and both times Safeway made egregious errors. The next time I need to rent a Rug Doctor, I will rent from CVS across the street. The last time I was here, I waited about 25 minutes after waiting at customer service, only to be told they don't rent them. When I went to CVS, I would find out the status of their Rug Doctor in less than 1 minute, compared to waiting 25 minutes at this Safeway. I was referred to their Customer Service Line by Dawn from Corporate HQ who monitors Yelp. Customer Service, and their promises were non-credible and were a waste of time. They pretty much said they will make things right, said a bunch of nice things, run your around in circles, and there are zero results. Pretty useless waste of time I think I will avoid coming to this Safeway going forward. Look at the other Yelp reviews; clearly other long time shoppers have noticed a deterioration in this Safeway's ability to do their job. Not interested in these time wasting activities. read more

This location (and probably all Safeway stores) has lost my business forever. Also, have the guts to say no to someone when they ask vs. giving people the runaround to talk to different people. My family will take our business elsewhere, glad a Whole Foods is planning to open nearby so we can keep our dollars in Sunnyvale vs. Cupertino Whole Foods. There's something always a little off about Safeway. Every store has its unique level of "special-ness" to it. So far, I haven't found it yet at this place. It's open 24 hours which is a huge plus! Pretty well stocked, clean, nice employees, and you're always able to find a shopping cart when you need it. When the rest of the shopping plaza shuts down, it can get downright creepy in the parking lot. Luckily, it's not hard to find a spot right out front so you don't have to walk in the dark all by yourself for too long. read more

This store use to be great. In the last two years it has gone downhill. The employees are lacking in customer service skills, they take NO ACCOUNTABILITY when they make a mistake. The store manager's takes a genuine concern as a personally attack, has poor listening skills & the issue never gets resolved. Several customers that have been shopping here are now driving out of their way to shop at another store. The older crew Korrey, Kyle, Jude, Kevin, Tamara, Ashley, Jeff, Rod and a couple others still wonderful to interact with. A lot of the employees don't speak English and are poorly trained when you ask where something is they say "I don't know I just started working here." This place still looks like the 70s from the outside. The clientele are lets say much older than your average. However inside, its been remodeled to match most of the Safeway standard and they have most things you need want in a grocery store. I went to customer service, nobody there I asked somebody to get some help Nobody shows up I ask for the store manager Nobody shows up Employees are walking by the customer service counter and ignoring me. He said: Some body put something in front of the sign BS: Tiny handwritten sign that nobody can read or see, and then blocked BTW, I tried to call before going by phone, and there is nobody to take you calls Net/Net: Why did they not have a sign - Customer Service Closed? Why did they not have a sign that you could READ - No Rug cleaner Rentals Why is it the Store Manager is so confused when his clerk told him somebody needs help at customer service? Why does it take 25 minutes to get help? Why is this such an idiotic waste of time? Look at the other reviews of this store....it seems to be going down hill. I just happened to be walking around after shopping at the See's Candy shop around the corner from them & decided to go in. I had a $20 gift card I needed to spend. It's very easy to do, but harder when you don't really need anything. These are the items I got: Ruffles Baked Cheddar & Sour Cream. Regular price $3.79/ with Safeway card $3.49. Lucerne string cheese 2 @ $3.50 = $7 Safeway card price/ regular $7.98 Butterball Turkey breast roll $8.69 Hand sanitizer $1.49 Total $20.79. So I just had to pay .79c and I used my coins which feels like FREE money. Starbucks Coffee inside the store, and Wells Fargo bank. read more

This location of Safeway in particular tends to have a ton of my probiotic drink choices and they always have my packets of Corned Beef, which other locations rarely stock. Huge pluses and always make for a good Sugar Butter Flour side trip. My biggest issue is their bag situation. They tend to never have bags at Self Checkout, and the bags they have at the front don't have handles. I get they want you to purchase a plastic bag so they can make a buck fifty on it, but still, have options people will want to use. The service tends to be better than at The Alameda location, but the outside is dirty and dingy looking. It's just not a Safeway that if they didn't have what I wanted in stock, I'd stop into. But they always have what I want and the cashiers are always super fast and friendly. Thus, 4 stars. read more

Went in yesterday. There was a cockroach walking around in broad daylight on the bakery department display for donuts. I bought a $7 kerrygold Skellig cheese. Noticed the date when I got home, it was already two months expired. I get reduced staffing, but this is still a grocery store. It needs to be clean and products should be known when they are expired (I bought the same cheese from a different branch a month ago and the exp date of that wasn't until July, so it had to be sitting here for a long while not getting checked) read more

Decent store, but it could be improved in several areas. I've been shopping here for years and I have never had a major problem. However, there have been minor problems along the way like the lack of cashiers and the long lines. I now use the self-checkout line, but even that can get backed up from time to time. I assume this store is trying to save money by having less people work, but it really annoys the customers -- the people who keep the store in business -- when we aren't satisfied while we're in the store and when we leave the store. I do recommend shopping at this location, just make sure you find then right time to shop, or your quick run for milk and bread will turn into a 1-2 hour trip. read more

First of all, what is with ALL the Safeways? Why is there one on every block? It's like a Starbucks down here. Weird parking lot, not crowded, but if it was it would be a nightmare to get out of. Door tried to kill me once, but that's for another time. it's the closest market, so I'm there probably 2 times a week. I've been going in there about 6 weeks, yet I still don't have any familiarity with any of the people who work there. Nor do I see any of the same people shopping. It's like a brand new store every time which is strange. They are nice though. Prices pretty good I think. I like the Deli, and produce dept. It's a store, what else can I say? :) read more
