Ordering from their fresh food area is the worse experience, there's typically one person, the line takes 20+ minutes to get the food that should be fresh and ready. They have deals for their chicken on Mondays and for what around be a solid in and out adventure is an extreme wait. For a day that they know their is a deal they do not plan accordingly not only do they have one person at dinner time , the person doesn't seem to have a big enough oven to cook the chicken. I give this a middle of the road. It's not the worst Safeway, but it does frustrate me that I have to pay for beauty, bath and medicine, at that counter... Then hot food at that counter... Then all my groceries at the check out. I get that theft is a problem, but it bothers me that everyone gets treated like a problem, when it's a minority of people who are the problem. I just wish that companies would find a better solution, and it seems like Safeway is the furthest behind in this. They are also vastly more expensive than just about any other store. The date on it was February 2025. Safeway... do better! I returned it minutes later for a refund. Looking passed the exterior with some of the most unique audience, the store itself is nice. Like most public businesses, you will see folks hanging around asking for money, looking sus, and beyond that even. The parking is usually full, but you can certainly find a spot. There is a gas station not exactly on the same lot, but just next to the store. The gas station is very cramped and can be somewhat hard to maneuver when busy. Produce, meats, seafood, floral, and bakery are good. I don't purchase prepared meals very often, so I can't say anything about that department. Produce is always stocked up, un-bruised, and clean. Meat and seafood looks very fresh, cut well, and they sometimes have really good deals. The bakery is my favorite. Especially the baked breads. I'm a fan of their sourdough loaves! Their bouquets of flowers are surprisingly beautiful and have different varieties to choose from. I usually don't shop heavy here, so I'm normally at the self check outs. I'd love to wait in line for a real cashier, but the lines are so long sometimes, like there are never enough cashiers. read more

Placed an online order and never received it, they did nothing to make it right. A door dash driver came to my house with an order that was not mine and left with the order to return it as the name, address, and items on the receipt were not mine. Then a representative from door dash called me and basically told me they would not resolve the error I needed to contact Safeway. I contacted Safeway and they did nothing to resolve the issue either. NO compensation for the lost delivery. Later I went into the store to buy the missing either AGAIN and the cashier pulled down his mask picked his nose, then used his nose picking hand to handle my groceries.... This is nit dangerous, or the " second gustiest" Safeway in Tacoma. it's actually a hugely busy Safeway that is pretty decent as they go. not as ups ale as the Proctor one, it's better than 56th, nice than Hilltops and Stadium's ( if that is still existing) and has security guards at night. I am starting to realize I really don't like this store at all. I've met some really nice workers during the night crew but my experience during the daytime here is usually that the workers are rude and entitled and think they get to run everything when they're not the manager, and aside from all of that I'm not really sure why grocery store workers don't realize that they're working in customer service. I had an experience at self check today, and I wanted to speak to a manager about it. I had this experience with Betty, hi Betty. I called back right after I had this experience at self check and I wanted to talk to a manager, and when I asked to speak to a manager, I was put on hold for a long period of time, and then the same worker came back to the phone and told me that the manager wasn't available I asked who I was speaking to at the time after I gave my number for the manager to call me back and of course I was speaking with Betty. Betty refused to give me to the manager. I'm sure because she knew that I would be reporting her behavior to the manager. To find out who Betty was I actually had to call back and ask who was working self check. I'm just not really sure why Betty thinks that she gets to make the rules and be rude to customers but if you want to enforce an actual policy, you need to be kind and cordial about it. Whether you like it or not Betty you are in customer service. I've been in customer service for years now and the way you spoke to me today is absolutely unacceptable and atrocious when we're speaking about customer service. I'm not going into the details of what happened at self check with Betty but what I will tell you is Betty discriminated against me and enforced a rule that is not a store policy I'm positive of it because I've actually spoken with other managers about it. Anyways, thanks for giving me your name Betty and I hope that your manager gives you some training on customer service and maybe you learn that you can't just talk anyway to anybody because eventually someone's going to report It. read more

THIS REVIEW IS FOR STARBUCKS INSIDE SAFEWAY. I went in yesterday just for a drink. The young man working, decided to have lengthy conversations with (assuming they were is co workers because they were talking about work) the two customers in front of me- they ordered one drink and got their own pastry from the case. I stood in line for 12 minutes before I was even able to order. I used a Starbucks reward because I have several- I ordered an iced, Veneti, dirty chai tea latte & it was absolutely horrible. This is more a comment on the corporation rather than this store - When 1 to 2 lbs of fat are part of the beef you buy, its shameful. This has been going on for some time now. Although most of the American public likes fat, and I do know the difference with good marbling, its no wonder the profits increase while consumers get the raw deal. The less expensive meats that are naturally lower in fat are all pre-packaged and just as expensive as the ones with way too much fat to be consumed. Given that it is seen at all of these stores, and I have spoken to many a butcher, it appears that this is the new corporate norm. read more

UPDATE : Estonia helped me in self check out today. I remembered her from the last time I was here because she is so remarkable. I asked how she was and she remembered me as well and exactly the last day I was in. I was more than blown away. 4th of July. It was so busy that day but she was so genuine then and now. The management is doing something right there and I hope they recognize the talent that they are bringing in. I have been here many times as this is the closest grocery store to me. But before that my mother worked here for a number of years at the Starbucks. Today I had a brand new checker Tyrone. It was his first day. I had 4 WIC transactions. He had the most upbeat and positive attitude and no one in line minded waiting when they were spoken to. Thanks for waiting. I'm so sorry. I appreciate your patience. Is there a zero star option? I worked in the bakery. There is mold in the proofer. Water drips into baked goods in the fridge? That's ok. Sell it like it is. I worked when the whole meat department flooded. How unsanitary. Staff is awesome, management are either Middle Aged Karens who are breaking under the impossible expectations, or just don't care. Worst.....Safeway.....Ever.... I went in for coffee and a candy bar. This should have taken 5-10 mins tops. Nope. Stopped at the Starbucks and received a poorly made mocha. I than asked for a refresher and a chocolate croissant. She Said they were all out than handed me a cold croissant which I promptly returned to her and ask her to heat it up please as that's how they usually served. My family's go to grocery store. It's down the street from where we live so we end up coming by at least once a day. The staff knows us and our daughter by name and are very nice people. The lines in this store are horrible. In fact, the lines are bad at most Safeways because the corporate office doesn't give the stores enough hours to staff adequately. If you try to shop in off hours, like later evening, it's even worse because sometimes they have only one cashier. This business doesn't value my time at all, and their prices are pretty high. I've been here once in the past to get some flowers for the lovely lady in my life. Fairly simple process, in and out, no issues. Came here a couple of days ago to get some donuts for the hard workers who help me out at work each day and was somewhat disappointed. Before I could even begin to get donuts into a box, I had to find the little blue plastic napkin deals so I wasn't touching every single donut I took. There was none in front of me, so every time I needed one, I had to walk 15 feet down the aisle to get some. Not a big deal, unless you're getting 3 dozen donuts. After figuring that step out, I started to check out the donuts. The little that were in the case, were poorly made. I'm not sure if safeway requires donut making class, but I swear some of these places are amazing and others are horrid. These were not amazing donuts. I don't think I saw a single creme filled donut that didn't have creme on the outside of said donut. What a joke. The regular maple bars were pretty flat, not fluffy. For 8am, I was unimpressed by the amount of donuts available and by the quality of them in general. I actually didn't have a single one, so I can't comment on actual taste, but visually, what a joke. Check out ended up being painless, happened to walk up as a manager was opening a new lane. I got nervous initially as there was only a single checkout open and about six people standing there. Overall, experience was average. Presentation was weak. I'll try a different safeway the next time my crew of workers deserve a round of donuts on me. read more
