Saffron pastries are amazing. They are all good and we've tried a a lot. Our go to is the cinnamon roll which is very flakey likes croissant and danishes. Both blueberry and raspberry is very tasty. You won't be disappointed. My husband and I were just there and he was so happy as he walked out and one of our pastries dropped on the floor. The owner saw and came out with a new one for us. Bright and early, pulling out of the Mobile gas station after filling up my car and then viola! A NEW BAKERY! So just like many of my other reviews... The Good, The bad, and The Ugly.... The ugly - It is so unfortunate they are just a few doors down from Starbucks. But come on people, buy your pumpkin spice latte, and then get a few steps under your belt and walk over to Saffrons for a sweet early morning treat. You helped out a small business AND you jump-started your early morning steps to close those rings on your Apple Watch! And if that isn't enough, Saffron Bakery has better tasting muffins, croissants, and fresh baked bread! So it's really a win-Win-WIN!! The Bad - yeah this is me being a little nitpicking but I wish they opened a little earlier than 7:00 a.m. Most people are usually already on the road at that time. (But maybe that's just me). The Good (aka the Yummy) - Earlier in the week I purchased some fresh made almond croissants. (I like to surprise our clerical staff every once in awhile) I swear when I found out one person had called out sick, would it be too melodramatic if I told you i was jumping for joy thinking I get their croissant? Well, it was only a fleeting thought because our district administrator showed up. **Drats** So guess what I did? On my way home I stopped by and had to pick one up for myself! And I picked up a slice of tiaramisu, saffron cake, AND chocolate scone! (I couldn't control myself). All delicious! The croissant was fluffy with lots of layers and a lot of almonds and, I think it was marzipan inside yummmm. The saffron cake was moist and I loved the outside that had a little bit of a crunchy texture a nice surprise texture. The tiaramisu was sweet and light although I prefer more espresso taste, my friend said I was nuts. He thought it was perfect. He also devoured the chocolate scone saying it was perfect too. I agree, it was delicious. Next time I look forward to trying one of the berry scones, or cheesecake, or plain croissants or.... I was looking for a place with great cinnamon rolls when I came across this bakery on yelp. I read that one reviewer said she had the best cinnamon rolls of her life here. Of course, I had to see for myself. Wow, she wasn't kidding! Their cinnamon rolls are as if a cinnamon roll and croissant had a baby. Super light and flaky with delicious cinnamon and frosting on top. As an added bonus, the gentleman (I assume as the owner) was extremely friendly and pleasant to interact with. Literally AMAZING experience. Darius was my front man and promptly returned my many texts to create the masterpiece of a pink and gold cheesecake for 40 people for our daughter's birthday. It was BEAUTIFUL and DELICIOUS. The baker went above and beyond our expectations and Darius ordered a special box for us because it was so heavy. This was my first time stopping in Saffron Bakery and my only regret is I hadn't gone sooner! The owner was there to greet me with a smile and it smelled like bread heaven! It was so hard to choose only one pastry! I let the owner know I was bringing the pastry to my friend who was in the hospital and he walked over and grabbed an additional giant chocolate chip cookie and said "then this is for you on the house!" OMG! - What a darling Wonderful European like café. - The saffron cake... And truly authentic German cheesecake were amazing! - I am a European Expat and came here from Germany 31 years ago... What I've been missing the most, and I was never able to find Westy authentic cheesecake from back home... Not made with cream cheese as an American style... But baked buttermilk... And Germany called that: Quarck. I have never been able to find this in the United States... And had to wiggle my way through online and talk to other Europeans on how they go about making it here in the states without the Quarck being available in US grocery stores. - SAFFRON BAKERY - definitely hit it on the mark... I was so pleasantly surprised on a day when everything went wrong for me and my girlfriend took me out for brunch there. - your baker definitely knew how to make it. I will go back to her from now on and it will become my stable bakery. -not only that their omelettes are heavenly...
