The older man sitting near the entrance, who I believe may be the owner, had a terrible attitude. He was rude, disrespectful, and made customers feel unwelcome. The shop itself also appeared dirty and poorly maintained, which was concerning for a place that sells food. Good customer service and cleanliness are basic expectations, and unfortunately this place failed in both areas. I would not recommend this shop. read more

First time trying this place out due to my coworker telling me about it! It was just me and the owner and he was making the curries I ordered, so he was busy putting heart and soul into it. But I got to talk to him more as he got my samosas and sweets; he is such a sweet man! Rough and tough on the outside but on the inside is what counts. One order of vegetable samosa is two large pieces and it was good! I also got the box of mixed barfi, and chum chum. Finally the Desi ghee Jalebi was good. Yikes. I have been trying my best to support local restaurants. But places like these make it extremely difficult. The portion sizes were a joke. The chaat was more like a few bites. It also looked like it was just thrown around without much care. There were bites of chilli and then there were a few bites of salt. The Mooli paratha - if you can call that, I didn't taste Mooli at all, it wasn't even rolled properly. Thick and lumpy in places and thin and burned in a few places. There is no option for leaving a rating in minus else I would've. I've been getting samosas and jalebis from this place since March 2013 which is little more than a decade. The owner of this place was rude then and he's even more rude now. My wife inquired about the jalebis and the guy rudely told her they make lots of it everyday and she should not to be wasting his time by calling and asking. I went to pickup samosas and jalebis, the owner again made same comment with a tone and attitude. I looked at him once and then ignored. I am not going back to this place ever again. The quality of samosas were great initially but has degraded to lowest levels of taste now. Most of the samosas are burnt and have cracks with a bitter aftertaste. Reminds me of home. You cannot get better North Indian style samosa and jalebi anywhere else here in the bay. They have a small old style store which reminds me of some places in India. The owner is very nice and keeps telling stories which is unique. Lately i have not been able to visit so I order online but the quality remains the same. I went there at around 8 pm. There is an old man sitting inside next to door which i did not notice when i walked in. I was looking for staff to help me with the sweets. The old man yelled from the door and asked me what i want. I said, i was looking for sweets. He yelled back from door and what kind of sweets I want. After i looked at the sweets i felt they are not looking good and looks soggy. He was very rude which i never seen anywhere in US. I showed him a sweet and asked him the name of it. He started yelling at me angrily. He yelled again like not knowing the name of the sweet is my mistake. I couldn't take any more rudeness and started walking out and he started following me back by yelling at me for wasting his time. I said "bhand mae jhao" and left the place. We decided to try this small place in San Jose for aloo tikki. Uncle there was very friendly to talk with, he made fresh tikki and samosa for us. Without a doubt, this was the best north indian samosa and aloo tikki I have had in bay area. The green chutney they serve with it is extra ordinary! This was my first time here and I went to the counter and ordered one order of samosas...they did take my order but the owner came and told me to call ahead for the next time:) Apparently they make them fresh and it takes 35 mins to make a batch. The owner doesnt speak much English. I did end up getting my samosas. I saw they carry masala peanuts and I love those...so I got some of those as well... The peanuts are damn spicy but are worth it...the samosas are infact one of the tastiest I have ever tasted...the chutneys that came with the samosas are amazing.. Wow! Never thought I would like a vegetarian Indian food. Walking in I wasn't impressed with the place. It looked very ethnic and too basic for me. But they made up for it big time. Food was awesome! I did not know that this place does exist within a mile from my house. awesome! "Santiago" was already there waiting when I got there. Anyways the place looks pretty much a no nonsense restaurant next to a mom n pops mini mart with an ATM machine. This restaurant is CASH ONLY. Food was all vegetarian. No meat at ll. My wife just brought dinner last night from Sagar. Normally I am a middle of the road fan of Indian food, I do not seek it out but when presented I enjoy it. I can say after trying their chicken curry, veggie samosas and Jalebi for dessert, I would request this food on a regular basis. The curry had amazing flavor and texture with large chunks of tender chicken, the samosas with sweet chutney hit just the right of balance of spice in comparison to other Indian restaurants. The Jalebi I had never tried before, and it was delicious! I guess the proprietor has a rep for being grumpy but who cares when the food is this good. Extremely terrible sweets, unsanitary place with dirty floors and counters. If you ask the owner any questions about the purchase you are trying to make, he explodes and yells at you to leave his store immediately. He even asked me which company do I work for and what is my status (judging my place in society) that I am asking him questions about the sweets he is selling. Do not go there. No customer deserves to be insulted. Its ironical that his own family members put a five star review here in the same month whenever they receive a bad rating. We've been coming here for years, but we were on a super health kick for a bit so when we came back, we were worried it might not be as good as we remembered. It absolutely was. This is the best Indian food we've ever had, bar none. We ordered the saag paneer, paneer makhani masala, navratan korma, and samosa chaat. The "taco truck" rule applies here - from the outside, this looks like a hole in the wall, but the curry and all of the sweets are amazing.
