Oh man I don't even know where to start. This has to be one of my favorite new Indian restaurants in the Bay Area. It's finger lickin good. As soon as you step in, you're greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere, it's like a Punjabi Dhaba. The prices are great and they don't even compromise quality. The tastes, flavors, and spices are as authentic as it gets. Seating is available, though, I got take-out. I got samosas and paneer pakoras as the appetizers, Gobi manchurian as the Indo-Chinese main, and also got recommendation to try the sweets, I mean that is what they are best known for. Though I haven't sat down and ordered food here before, we get sweets from here all the time. They have the best Barfee (All types) that I've ever had. First off, I'm not Indian so most of the food I ate here, I wouldn't have a clue. It wasn't until my girlfriend got some sweet candles that I totally had my heart into this place. :) Before we get to the best part, let's talk about the meals they served. You can choice from three types of meat: lamb, chicken or beef. Yes, I was surprise to see Beef on the menu, too!!! Don't they worship them, there!? Anyways the best meal item to get is the Samosa!!! It's awesome. If you are a vegetarian, there are dishes for that. The best time to go here is lunch: it's $ 5.95 during those times. The location is best known for serving Punjabi, and Bengali sweets. I can't think of all the sweets, but just get a Sagar's box. Most of them look like some kind of doughnut. An essential part of the Punjabi homemade meal is the roti or phulka. And because of the time it takes to make a perfect soft one, it is very rare to find a restaurant offering hot and soft phulkas. Having visited a lot of Indian restaurants in the Bay Area, I can say that they offer the best phulkas I have had. Most restaurants don't even offer them. They generally have naans. The food was as close as it can get to feeling like having it back in Punjab! The chicken was delicious and the dal felt like the slow cooked kinds that you would generally find in a langar. I went there at around 6:30 pm with my 5 years old daughter and both of us wore the masks. An old man without mask was sitting next to the door which I did not notice while walking in. I was not sure whether he was a customer. I was looking around for the staff and he indicated me to choose the sweets. I have requested him to give me a particular sweet. The old man started talking in Hindi which I don't understand clearly. I mentioned that I don't understand Hindi. He started yelling at me and started saying something that I don't completely clear. At some point he refused to sell the sweets and angrily asked me to get out of the store. This was the worst kind of rudeness I faced in any US store, especially my 5 years old daughter was very upset. Then I decided to walk out too. He was very rude which i never seen anywhere in US. Coming back home, I checked the Yelp and found that others also had similar kind of experience with this old man. Still decided to give it a try (supporting the local community and all). There was this grumpy old man who speaks neither English nor Hindi. We asked to recommend some fresh sweets without nuts, he got annoyed and started yelling at us (weird, maybe drunk). Never seen such customer experience from a well meaning business man, not sure how the store is still in business (pretty average variety of sweets in a dull dirty setting). A good place with a "wall in the hole" type setting. Literally no shops adjoining this place. I went for samosa, jalebi here on a sunday evening and eventually waited to get fresh samosas. That wait was worth for the fresh, flavourful samosa i got. Definitely, a great find for me (after trying all good places to search for these snacks). Did tried the rose lassi there and it was good too. Will visit again and definitely try more in their collection. Will also recommend others to try this out for these two snacks atleast. I had dinner chicken curry, dal, samosa, palak paneer, rasgulla, milk cake. The food was fresh and very hot. Chicken curry was crap. Palak paneer average. Rasgulla was hard and very very sweet. Wow I'd have never known this place exists if it wasn't for our outing to cirque du soleil nearby. But yeah this place has been in existence for more than 30 years. Yes, trust all the other reviewers about the samosas! and get a tall glass of lassi. The $6.95 combo feeds three - two garam chapatis and two curries and daal and a cup of yogurt! They might not have all the items on the menu because it's all freshly made and they probably do catering bulk orders more than walk ins. They might even urge you to all get samosas instead of getting different things for example, but it's all good. If you're lucky you'll get complementary freshly made pedas for dessert :) read more

One of the best samosa s I have ever had. So fresh!!! And absolutely delicious!! the spicy chutney and sweet chutney were perfect too. The people who work there are really friendly. I would definitely rate this $$ instead of $ but totally worth it! I used DoorDash to order from this restaurant and found the quantity and quality terrible for the pricing. I regret ordering from here. Even the "desi ghee" Jalebi that is double price of regular jalebi was just OK. Not worth double price. I felt the butter chicken wasn't boneless. Came back today to order some naan and butter chicken and was greeted to try a samosa. I never had one until today and wow they're pretty good! The sauces I was given was a green sauce and a kind of thick syrup that was both spicy and kind of sweet. Overall, it was really good and I wild love to come back here when I'm back in San Jose. read more

My favorite samosa is served here. Love the other sweets also especially Jalebi. I went again yesterday the owner was kind enough to serve us tea and samosa. This is the only restaurant in Bay Area where I feel at home. The owner(we call him Uncle), is a very generous and kind person. Whenever I miss home, I just drop in for Hot chapatis, Punjabi Kadhi, Koftas and Uncle's special achaar (pickle). They serve authentic Punjabi food and the phulkas are so soft, hot and they just melt in your mouth. The best part is that they always give you something extra, like jalebis or gulaab-jaamuns at the end of the meal. You feel more like a guest, than a customer. Their mathris and matraa is to die-for. Don't expect smiling servers and classy ambiance. This is the place to go for honest, Indian dhaaba-style food. Be nice to the owner, he values that and pours more loving into your food :) read more

I actually have not physically been to the store, but everytime I come home my dad makes sure to buy some fresh jalebi before he picks me up from the airport. What can I say, my dad knows the way to my heart is through my stomach. I'm actually really picky when it comes to Indian sweets. That being said, this place has the best jalebi that I've had in America so far. It's not super hard and crispy which is how a lot of other places make it. read more

Burfi: a piece of heaven... sweet and fresh Rasgula: perfect balance for the other two much sweeter desserts Don't let the random location and not so aesthetically pleasing venue deter you from coming here (it is the epitome of a hole in the wall joint). This place has been around for over 30 years and they have desserts that will make you melt... I hear their samosas are great as well. If you're not a fan of Indian desserts, this place will change your mind. Note that Indian desserts are generally really sweet... so, I suggest baby steps. FINAL ANSWER: Yes! This is the place I go to when I want to get off "the grid". Located on a quiet side street, this six table Indian restaurant is usually empty at lunch. The owner is a guy named Chander Seikhar, and he'll greet you without a smile. But then he brings cold water and spotless silverware wrapped in a thick, blue, cloth napkin. There is Indian music in the back round, or perhaps a Bollywood movie on the TV. The choices are: lamb, chicken, or beef. I always get the lamb. It is served in a bowl with succulent chucks of meat in a rich broth. A small plate piled with white rice, mixed with small carrots and peas. The bread is fresh made, flat, brown, rather dense...excellent. I should know the name of this type of bread, but not sure. A small dish of sliced onions and relish, and dish of yogurt complete the meal. The food is all homemade, and tastes it. It is just the right portions. I have been going here for six years now, and for the first time the owner called me "brother" when he brought my food. I have arrived. The prices are cheap; I think $5.95 for lunch. I look at the trays of unknown Indian candies and am tempted to give them another try, but the past experiences always stop me. Guess I can't appreciate the Indian sweet-tooth. But I am ready to face the hustle of the city after my lunch retreat at Sagar Sweets. read more

Lovee the food here. We took a to go order from this place. We ordered the paneer pakora, aloo paratha, gobi paratha and samosa. What blew my mind was the paneer pakora. Have never had such soft paneer in the bay area ever. The aloo and gobi paratha was good too. The samosa again was mind blowing, the filling was delicious. Its comforting Indian food!!! Awesome samosas, if you can look beyond everything else. The place is old, and shows its age. But the samosas are just plain awesome. We've eaten Samosas at several places, including the frozen variety. Nothing comes close to the ones they make here. And at $1.25 its a steal too! Lunch is Ok. read more
