I overheard Mary explaining some "first-time customer protocol" to Amy, which happened to be to our benefit because they brought us a cinnamon churro donut to try! Such a sweet touch and a fun way to make first-time customers feel welcome. As we ordered, Mary offered suggestions and was helpful without ever being pushy. Both Mary and Amy were attentive and friendly, and the service was excellent. My husband ordered the Club Sandwich, my daughter ordered the Belgian Fruit Waffle, and I ordered the West Coast Arnold. Our ratings: Husband: 8/10 Daughter: 9.5/10 Me: 10/10 And please know that my husband is a HARSH critic, so an 8 from him is basically a 10. And that churro donut they so sweetly let us try? My daughter and I both tried it, and I'd give it an 8/10 for taste and a 100/10 for allowing us to try it! Overall, we had a wonderful first experience. A little about my self, I dont live in Bradenton, I live almost 2000 miles away, so im not looking for a gift card, a freebie, nor am I looking for a reply from the owners..I am a GM at a Huddle House, serving breakfast lunch and dinner 24 hours. My wife and I came out to Anna Maria Island for our honeymoon... my wife has an aunt that lives in Bradenton, so on our last day in Florida we decided to meet up with her and family for some lunch before we headed home. (six of us) Sunday 1 pm we expected a long wait..no biggie.. usually guests of a restaurant don't understand that when there is a wait at the door, with clean tables.. The main reason is because the kitchen is backed up with tickets and they don't want to cram more tickets into the already backed up kitchen. I understand this, but waiting 40 minutes, because there were 4 tickets hung up on the cook line was kind of extreme timing!! We finally sit down, our server (For the life of me, cannot remember her name) Greeted us in a timely manor, told us she will be right back to grab our drinks. The restaurant manager in me appreciated the heads up, because I can tell she was busy, but what I didn't appreciate was the other servers NOT doing anything, standing around, drinking their soda from the reach in cooler they have behind the bar. No fault of the server that was assigned to our section, we sat for about 7 or 8 minutes waiting to give our drink orders. again.. while the other servers just stared at us, not bothering to help their co worker out. whats worse was, come to find out one of the owners, just sat at the register, doing nothing, just day dreaming about, what I assume, the better plans he had to do then make sure his guests had a good visit. So our server takes our drink order, comes back right away with our drinks and begins to take our order, she was friendly, made eye contact with us, interacted with the 6 month old that was with us. Again, with our server swamped with other tables, trying to do her best, 10 minutes go by, no manager touch to see how we are doing, our glasses empty.. again this would not matter to me AT ALL if I noticed the entire staff not doing a a thing to help out our poor server.. 20 minutes in I stopped a guy server from leaning on the wall and asked if he can grab us some refills for the table, with a smile he grabbed out glasses , refilled our cups and came right back to re deliver them.. which is awesome.. until i noticed the table next to us had empty glasses and he went back to lean on his wall. about 30 mins in I did something I knew I shouldn't have done, With our meals taking 30 minutes at this point, I look over to the kitchen, as they have an open kitchen and you can see the cooks work. I notice a taller cook with a head band, (which after looking at the restaurants website, found out he is co owner) and noticed the GROSS AMOUNT OF SWEAT (i'm not over exaggerating... I wish I was) dripping from his face.. every time this man looked a different direction, his sweat would drip , in what I assume what he is cooking. I mean.. use a towel.. have a fan back there.. I get it kitchens get hot.. especially in Florida.. but It took everything in my power to keep my mouth shut to the my family.. So they wouldn't freak out, get disgusted and want to leave (I honestly had a flight to catch with my wife an hour away in Tampa, and did not want to risk missing it by going somewhere else to eat. every ones food gets to the table about 40 mins in. I order one of their skillets with no sausage or sausage gravy and a side of corn beef hash. everyone gets their food, I get my burnt corn beef hash... but get my skillet about 5 minutes later.. In the description of the skillet they have, it comes with cheese with potatoes, peppers and onions. I was excited to mix my corn beef hash with my cheesy (and sweaty) potatoes... no cheese.. just potatoes.. at this point I gave up ... i mixed my beef hash with my potatoes and ate, a manager or a owner never came and checked on us, so it didn't matter I guess if my food came out right. We get the bill, my wife's aunt pays for the bill, it turns out her card was swiped on the wrong check, so we wait about 10 mins for the lady (pictured with the owners on the website probably a manager, wife, co owner.. not sure) to try to solve the problem on the computer.. but what took the longest was listening to this lady threaten to fire our server because she forgot to ring up a drink, which i get it, I write people up all day long for things like that, BUT THE GUEST DOES NOTCARE, they don't want to hear about it, nor do we want to see this server (who in my opinion, from what I witnessed this day, was the hardest working person their) have their job threatened.. in front of guests!.. in front of her co workers! must of been really embarrassing her her. We get the fixed check.. I tell the lady about the sweating co owner and wait.. she says "sorry" and sends us on our way . read more

We've been there a few times, the food isn't really the issue, it's the service. We typically stop in for an early (7:30am) b'fast on our way to the airport. While we're usually only about one of four tables seated, it always takes least 25-30 minutes to get our breakfast (2 people) and getting a coffee or water refill is a challenge. On one occasion we asked the manager, however he told us that he wasn't a server and would send one over... Meanwhile, the servers are eating and socializing behind the counter. The irony is that we were just there this past weekend a little later while it WAS busy. Our server Janie was amazing and our breakfast came out in a reasonable amount of time. Only bummer was that our eggs were runny. Janie was super busy though so we didn't bother telling her but we did appreciate the great service she provided! Suggestions? Find a manager who enjoys his job, one that will step in when his guests need assistance, and is maybe a little friendly. Also, stop the horrible practice of allowing servers to eat and socialize behind the counter for the guests to see, which has happened every time we've been there. The manager sees and allows this, I don't get it! Anyway, I'm sure this business won't collapse over the loss of our business, but we'll be going to First Watch here on out and that's where we'll refer others to go as well. read more

Sage Biscuit is just ok. We are from out of town and looked at all the reviews. There were so many about Sage Biscuit we thought we'd give it a try. The service was subpar- maybe the person was new, but it took over 6 minutes after we were sat to be greeted, another 4 minutes to get our drinks (coffee and water). While the menu has so many options we decided on a Mediterranean skillet and Corned Beef Hash. The hash was..interesting. And my med skillet had random meat in it. The server also got our order wrong so we had to wait a bit longer than anticipated. The restaurant is a bit direct also. Looks like no one takes pride in their job at their place of work. Dirty restrooms, dirty windows, no one dusts anywhere...ever. I wouldn't recommend unless everything else is closed. read more

i ve been there twice, and i m not impressed. I was looking at the reviews, so decided to take my wife there, and when our plates arrived, we both looked at each other wondering what the hell was in our plate. she ordered poached eggs and they came submerged in water, and there was a piece of carrot floating, which we thought was weird as we hadn't ordered any. i had scrambled eggs and biscuits, and the scrambled eggs were just one larg mass of what tasted like powdered eggs. the bacon was very thin and burnt. i gave it s 2 stars rather than a 1 because i liked the biscuits and the service was decent. might give it another try at some point, but i ll stick to my favorite place for now. read more

The portions here are abundant and will fill you up. Sage cafe is a great way to start your day off strong with a hearty breakfast. I usually get the egg benedict and grits, and they're amazing. Personal favorites I highly recommend! The quality is always fresh and the staff here are very kind. I used to come here at least twice every month, but only once a month now because of my schedule. The employees here always remember you and put on a smile when serving you. The only reason I can't give this a 5 star is because the service can be slow at times, usually when they're really packed, but it's understandable. Recommendations: get the egg benedict! read more

After reading so many reviews, we decided to go instead of our usual place as we wanted to do something different for once, and saw this place had gotten so many wonderful reviews: what a disappointment! We ordered the combo and biscuits and gravy, which is great for the quantity of food, however, nothing was good. The food was blend and tasteless!!! The sage biscuits had tooooooo much dried sage.. They have a lot of staff, but coffee cups were not attended to very often. The place smelled old, and not very clean, and the ceiling panels were stained from water leaks. Tried to eat here today. It was 45 minutes from the time we sat at our table to the time we walked out without being served any food. Several tables around us were seated after us and they all got their food. Out wait person came and said she checked on our food and it would be another 5 minutes. We waited 15 more minutes after she told us that and then we left. No one cared? In the past food from order to table has always been slow when we ate here but this was totally not acceptable today. We won't be back. Not worth waiting for a table and then once seated not getting food in 45 minutes. read more

A Brunch Must! We went for Brunch.. We had a breakfast of eggs and corned beef hash. My companion enjoyed eggs Benedict on their special biscuits. The portions were generous. Everything was delicious. I had the bacon and fried green tomato Benedict on a sage biscuit and my husband had a skillet breakfast. Outstanding menu, fresh food, cooked to order, and politely served. We were visiting the area from CT and wanted to meet relatives from South Florida for breakfast. This was convenient (off major routes) and easy to find. We had various skillet dishes and omelets. All perfectly cooked, incredibly tasty and served by a very helpful and pleasant staff. This is by far the best breakfast place in the Sarasota Bradenton area. Once you are seated, the service is fast, the portion sizes decent (enough to be fulling but not gluttonous), and the food is delicious. Also, they make real ice tea not the mixed stuff. Outdoor seating was pretty cool and unique with lots of shade. Service was super friendly.

Now I have to admit that the lox avocado toast was about 6.5/10 (as the avocado had that weird taste it develops when it sets out for too long), but the waffle was SUPER good, ESPECIALLY for a GF option. The coffee was decent. Customer service was good. Everybody was very friendly and attentive, from the cashier to the wait staff. I have to say that I also got an iced latte with coconut milk and I was ecstatic that they had the coconut milk option because I'm noticing that it's becoming less and less available. Now to the other things that I have tasted; I tried their chai chiller. Even though it was too sweet for my liking (I reckon it was made with chai syrup). However, I think it tasted great -and the spiciness really was coming through. Finally, the tried the morning glory baked item. It was good. The combination of coconut, carrots, cinnamon, and raisins worked well together. I also got an orange-something scone, but have not tried it yet. I will have to come back and update my review once I do. The place looks eclectic but it works! It also has a small gift shop at the entrance which is a good option if needed.
