Let me just start this off by saying I know absolutely nothing about getting my nails did. I have a bad habit of biting my nails so this review is about my toenails... Cuz I can't reach them... But started doing yoga so maybe one day. Anyways the reason I came in is to bring my 92 year old grandma who has lived in HLP for 50 years. My grandmother has been coming here for years and only gets her pedicure with one person specifically. The reason she says is because she is very gentle with making sure you are not in pain. She enjoyed her color and cut. I decided to get one too with the same lady. She indeed was very gentle even when I was flipping like a fish when she cleaned the bottom of my feet cuz it's ticklish. I also got my nails colored for the first time in my life cuz it was requested by my gf.. you do what you gotta do. Overall the experience was great, very gentle, didn't hurt and the color was applied well (to my limited knowledge). I unfortunately do not know prices for these sort of things but the pedicure was 19 bucks with the nail color included. Idk how long this paint will last but when it doesn't I'll be back! To put it frankly, these women have no idea what they are doing. During my mani, pedi I sustained two injuries and left in so much pain I could hardly sleep last night. I made the mistake of getting a full set and pedicure at 1st Rose yesterday evening. Let's start with the full set. The nail technician proceeded to grind her tool deep into my cuticle/ nail bed, I had to pull my hand back in pain. This woman literally spent over an hour just grinding and filling down my nails, honestly I should have just walked out... lord only knows the damage she caused my nail beds. She filled and cut the sides of my thumb nail the point of excruciating pain, leaving some of my nail bed completely exposed and red on the side. My big toe sustained the largest injury. The nail tech doing my toes uncaringly filled my cuticle with the buffing tool as hard as she possibly could. Plus, who in the world thinks it's normal to file someones cuticles! All things said, you are better off having a four year old with scissors doing you manicure. Prepare to leave with injuries and in pain. read more

So disappointed in this place been coming here since I was just a teenager. But now it's changed completely. Twice they've messed up. First incident around I booked an appointment at 9am drove from far just to get there for Tracey to tell me everything is cancelled one girl called out. Second incident we waited for 45 minutes seeing other people go before us. Just unfair for her to say I'm sorry I thought you just walked in. I don't usually do this but I find it necessary in order for others to avoid this establishment. I've tried many nail salons on Figueroa and most are okay, nothing worth writing a review about. But this particular nail place should honestly be avoided. To get straight to it, they messed up the shape of my nails, pretty bad polish job, nipped off my skin more than once and ended up leaving excess skin along the side of my nails. I'm not a yelper. This is actually my first review, ever. But please, do not come here! One of my acrylic nails had come off - it was time for a fill anyway - but I don't like fills, so I asked the nail tech to remove them and start fresh. Instead of soaking them in acetone, as you should do to not damage your actual nail, the lady with a bob and blunt bangs grabbed a toe nail clipper and started to yank at my fingers. Even when I yelled, she massaged my hand and continued. I am not a confrontational person, so I bit my tongue. I wasn't even going to write anything, however, it's been five days and two of my acrylics already broke off. One of the nails was crooked, they were different shapes and so thick. This is my third time coming here .. I always had a nice experience they do an amazing job at removing your cuticles and cleaning around your toenails . $16 for mani & pedi who can beat that. Came here for a full set of coffin nails. Left very disappointed because they are oddly shaped, bumpy and thick. She also kept hurting me while filling the sides of the nails. I came in with a photo for reference. The nails were nude with ombre glitter. She decided to add two additional layers of glitter on each nail that had the nude polish on top. I would have asked her to do it again but that would require her to take off a complete nail add acrylic to the sides of the nails. I was already there for an hr and there where other ladies waiting. I was very excited to try this place out because of its location. I was extremely disappointed with my outcome. I get acrylics nails done every single month so I would like to say I know a good job done. The attendant was so dismissive, and my nails look extremely horrible. Not only did she leave air bubbles on my nails, she did such a sloppy job the polish looks clumpy. I'm absolutely in love with this Nail salon . My family has been coming here for 12 years + and have not had any complaints. Tracie the owner is so nice and caring. She always makes me and my family feel so welcomed ... I normally call to make an appointment because she's often busy . But now that there is a new girl KIM who is AWESOME and takes care of me and my nails .. She takes her time and gives the best massage . After a long days of work just being able to come in and you know that the massage on tour feet will make you feel a lot better totally worth my drive since I'm not from this city . Prices are very affordable I remember coming here when main and pedi where 15dollars now they are 20$ which is still affordable compared to other place near this salon . I'm not sure what all the complaints have been about. First of all, this place is super clean. Many places in HLP are sketchy and dirty with gross carpets, nail polish on walls etc. 1st Rose Nails was very clean. They offer dip--another thing some places in HLP don't offer and something I prefer over gel because dip lasts another week and a half for me. They took me in without an appt which was super nice since I went on a whim. They also had the color I wanted for dip and a variety of Nail colors and brands to choose from. My nail technician was able to do my dip nails and a pedicure in an hour and 15 minutes which I appreciated since I was in a rush. The polish and the filing were on point. They followed all social distancing protocols from distancing seats, a check in, and disinfecting their area before I sat in. I think the pictures on here from 3 years ago are a shame, it's quite a good place and I'm glad I gave it a shot. read more

Just went to get my acrylics removed and get a manicure done and I was done in like 20 minutes which sucks! The lady gave me a POOR manicure. No shaping done correctly. The cleaning was minimal.
