Whenever I am in Gilroy, I will eat here, first off all my strongest suggestion is to make reservations beforehand as this place is extremely popular, and if you go during peak hours for lunch or dinner, you will need to be okay with waiting so that's some friendly advice for you! I've gone a few times without making reservations and regretted it. The food here is great though, tasty and flavorful. My favorite item on their menu is; the seafood fried rice, has a great layer of everything; cucumbers, tomatoes, shrimp, rice and oysters. It was our first time here - we decided to check out a new restaurant in Gilroy. The restaurant is in a plaza with other restaurants & shops so there's plenty of parking. When we arrived, there were quite a few tables filled inside. I ordered the Pad Thai with veggies & tofu & my husband ordered the Panang Curry with pork & the chicken wings as an appetizer to share. The chicken wings were small but the tom yum seasoning on it was tasty. My husband enjoyed his curry. The pad thai was good as well but tasted different than other pad thais I've tasted elsewhere - it's not really your traditional pad thai flavors. It's also the first time I've had soft tofu in my pad thai - it's usually served with fried tofu so it was a bit different but it was still flavorful. I think this a place we could add to our rotation of restaurants in the area. Come check it out whenever you're craving Thai food. read more

I couldn't tell what would be good since there is Thai and Vietnamese food in the menu. We placed an order for pick up after a long day out. The restaurant seemed really busy. We ordered many items: crying Tiger, drunken noodles, chicken larb, plain chicken wings, sampler platter and rice. Do not order plain chicken wings. We could barely bite through the chicken so I think they were old or refried. My kid loves chicken wings and even he refused to eat it. We ended up tossing it. Other than that, I did like the crying Tiger and drunken noodles. Everything else was just bland and not up to par. I am not sure what the hype is about, but maybe Gilroy is lacking authentic food. read more

Who doesn't love this place? They make traditional Viet/Thai food. Pho, bahn mi sandwiches , rice dishes, noodle dishes. I recommend the Pad Se Ewe, spring rolls, sweet sausage fried rice and the Thai tea. This place is so delicious and so fast. I ordered and the chef put the food together so quickly. Went to go try out this restaurant yesterday night, I ordered a well done beef noodle soup pho. The broth was tasteless, had what I think was a strong taste of ginger which I thought was a little odd. Unfortunately the next morning I had symptoms of food poisoning from the food I had at this restaurant. I've had non stop vomiting and GI issues. Ordered green curry, which actually had more of a white color than the typical green. Awful. Tasteless. And very chewy eggplant. Also ordered pad see ew and pad Thai. Let's start with the setting, it was a cold and rainy day. It rained ALL DAY! Not so bad when you're inside, but I wasn't. My feet were wet and cold. So after a very long day, we're headed home and looking for food, and you know what sounds good? Some warm soup! Like pho or ramen! Wife finds a place with very good reviews, so we make the drive. It's not too much out of the way. We walk in and a table has just left that will seat 5. Otherwise, I think we would be looking at a wait. The inside is not very big, and will not support large groups. In fact, capacity probably sits at about 20-25 patrons. That's a problems. Except on this day, it wasn't a factor. They cleaned the table off and we were sat in less than 5 min. Looking at the menu, I'm trying to play chess while the kids are playing checkers. Meaning, I know they won't finish their food and we're on the road. So if I order something small, I can finish my food and theirs all together. I'll spend less too. That's actually high on my priority's since we just bought a car. Only relevant in that I didn't get pho like I wanted because I was sure my 7 year old would finish his. But I did get the yum nuer here, it's called the yum nyua everywhere else I go. The Thai beef salad-known for its citrus lime dressing, is great everywhere I've had it. Well actually there was that time in San Diego.... The issue I've found with it is the restaurants will try to skimp on something. Instead on a good veggie, there will be tons of onion, cabbage, bell pepper(seriously San Diego?!). Today, I almost left full, which has never happened. Yum Nyua, er...nuer, should become an appetizer, because it's really not enough food to make anyone full. But I digress. There were nice amount tomato chunks(never thought I'd say that), cucumber and lettuce leaves. Sure there was a lot of purple onion too, but not San Diego ridiculous levels. I even ate a few. Wife said it was good, and I concur. Probably best yum nuer experience ever, but second best tasting. The fact that I got more food is what makes it an overall better experience. Moving on to my kids fried rice. For whatever reason, rather than reach get something and split them, they both got fried rice. Pretty sure I face-palmed. If and guess what, we took about a full serving of it to go (face-palm) Anyways, remember my grand plan to be cheap? That went right out the window when they asked if my son wanted the kids pho. There's a kid pho? Yeah sure! Forgetting about my initial plan. Then I got to watch him eat only the noodles and a piece of meat every now and then because I stayed on him about not just eating the noodles. I did try the broth though, since good pho is all about good broth. It was meh, tbh. I mean, I've had worse. But in a sea of neck and neck traditional tasting pho, the broth here was second worse. It wasn't tasteless like the absolute worst. It did have flavor, it just didn't taste traditional. I couldn't put my finger on it though, but either it was very watered down, or from bullion. Anyways, I wasn't missing anything. And finally, my wife got the red curry. It's not my thing at all, but it wasn't bad. I wouldn't get it myself, but if curry is your thing, you might enjoy it. Finally, the end. I was very close to giving Saigon a 3 star review, because as you remember, it was wet and cold outside. I was looking for an escape from the misery. Instead, we sat near the large center room fan. Not a big deal initially. But after I finished eating and I'm waiting for the bill, the air from the fan started to get to me. Like, I put my jacket on backwards (since the sleeves were wet), just to stay warm. Normally it's my wife that gets cold easily, but today, it was me. In fact after we left and went to another store, I had to leave and go back to the car to warm up. So yeah, the only thing keeping Saigon from having 5 stars was that it freaking cold inside due to the fan blowing on me, and the pho. Not horrible, but not that good. The yum nyua on the other hand was an experience worth having again. It was awesome. All in all, the good was to notch. Give it a try read more

Wow - can't believe I haven't left a review for this spot yet. This is our go-to restaurant spot when we are passing through Gilroy. Their range of Southeast Asian dishes is impressive, and everything tastes fresh and flavorful. They do a good job balancing complex authentic flavors while still being approachable to a variety of palates. We particularly love their crab fried rice. They have a good kid's menu with smaller portions and prices for little ones. Portions are generous for the price. Wish they had a location on the Peninsula - we'd visit more often! - but we do enjoy the special treat of coming here when we are out this direction. read more

Time to update this review!! After 4 years it is time to hit refresh and give this place another 5 out of 5 stars! This is the go to spot for Thai food in town. The ONLY time this place lets us down is on Wednesdays when we forget they are closed haha. New favorite is the banh mi. Roasted pork is so savory and placed in a delicious fresh bread roll with all the fixing. Drunken noodles is fiancées go to and will always be one is his happy dishes. I ordered the Thai spicy eggplant with tofu, but it tasted nothing like the traditional dish. The eggplants were way oversalted and too firm still. They seemed undercooked, and I got a stomachache after, which essentially confirmed it. The entire dish was pretty bland and lacking flavour other than salt. read more
