However, tucked into the Old town of Monrovia off to the side street, I was wrong. Walking into its door was like walking into a small Italian place. Overall ambiance and style of the restaurant feels like I should be ordering wine and a dish of pasta. There is one wall lined with wine, but I'm not so sure anyone wants to have wine and pho? It's a little small, but the waiters are pretty accommodating. We were a little skeptical, since the restaurant looks very Americanized. Across the street there was a place called pho house 99, that also looked good. When looking at the menu itself, it's pretty Americanized with the banh mi being the upward of $10. Since my group was 13 people, we had to be split into three groups, so if you do have a large group it's best not to come. Out of the tables, we ordered first but somehow the order was mixed and we got our food last. Even though, basically, we were one table and it didn't matter, it's pretty how annoying last and it took so long (over 25 minutes). However when the food came out, it was a present surprise. The broth was flavorful without any condiments. There was a substantial amount of tender meat for a pho under $9 dollars and the noodles were cooked pretty well - may have needed a coupe of minutes more. There was a good amount of options for pho but also options to have custom pho which vary in price. There are also rice plates, spring rolls, and banh mi. Overall, a great small Vietnamese restaurant in Monrovia. A little Americanized but also very authentic. Tips - Don't bring a party bigger than 6 and expect to sit together. Pros - there overall ambiance and cleanliness for a Vietnamese restaurant was pretty good. Cons - pretty cramped in terms of table and for waiters and people to walk. read more

Probably the worst Vietnamese food we've ever eaten. First time there and ordered at the time of opening. Went there because Yelp reviewers like the food. But quickly disappointed at first bites as the food tasted as if they were all leftovers from the night before! Maybe the chef was still prepping for the new batch of food and just warmed up leftovers for us so we don't have to wait too long??? The Pho was the saltiest broth we've ever had by far! No authentic taste of Vietnamese broth at all - just so salty and sweet at the same time - it was just so weird. The grilled pork tasted and felt like pork jerky like it was dried out or was microwaved that it became like pork jerky! I had to throw away most of the food. I was just so hungry that I even had the stomach to eat some. Such a waste of $40! Completely disappointed as the high reviews made us choose this place over the other ones we know and like. They have many different restaurant names which lead to the same place, which is Saigon Avenue, that makes drivers very confused to arrive to pick up orders. An authentic hidden gem! This is my second time here. I ordered the shrimp pho with vegetable broth and added tofu + veggies. My boyfriend ordered the same but with beef broth. Service: 5/5. Our server Hin was attentive, friendly and checked on us often. Food was quick and came out in 15 minutes. Bang for your buck: 4.5/5. $1 to $3 more expensive than most pho restaurants, however the quality is much better. The sizes were pretty big. Each bowl came with 8 jumbo shrimp and a lot of veggies. Taste: 5/5. The shrimp was cleaned properly and was perfectly tender. The beef broth was delicious and the veggie broth was good, but was missing a little something. Noddles and veggies were cooked perfectly. Ambiance: 4/5. Clean and intimate. About average decor for a pho restaurant, but with modern twist. My friend and I stopped by after a hike, and Saigon Avenue is what I found after a quick Yelp search. Lots of tasty vegetarian options here. I got the tofu banh mi, and it was really flavorful, with nicely marinated tofu. The bread was fresh. My friend got the vegetarian vermicelli, which looked to have similar ingredients to my dish. She said it was delicious. The highlight, though, was the truly courteous and attentive customer service that just makes you happy after. It feels good to support restaurants during the pandemic. I came around 4pm on a Sunday afternoon so the place was pretty empty. I ordered grilled shrimp spring rolls and a grilled pork bahn mi. Overall the food was great. The ingredients tasted very fresh and all the food was flavorful. The total bill ran me $17.50, which is a tad bit pricey but I had 1 roll and half a sandwich to take with me for lunch tomorrow. The grilled shrimp spring rolls: each roll was pretty large, had 3-4 grilled shrimp with a sweet sauce, noodles and fresh basil...from what I could taste. The dipping sauce had a little bit of a kick which as nice. It was a sweet sauce with peanuts. It went very well with the roll. I would have loved if it had a bit of tanginess to it but that's more of my personal taste. The grilled pork bahn mi: I really liked the sandwich a lot. The bread was lightly toasted and had a considerable amount of grilled pork, which was packed with flavor but a tad bit salty. The carrots on my sandwich did not taste pickled, which I also missed. I was going to try the Vietnamese coffee but given that I'm not huge on sweet coffees, I wasn't keen on paying $4 for it. Perhaps next time. All in all, a very enjoyable meal! read more

I ordered the filet mignon pho and beef rolls. The pho has thin noodles and the broth is super tasty. It was the right amount of meat, noodles, and broth. There are many times I finish the noodles and still have a ton of broth. This was a great ratio. The beef rolls were tasty too. I will definitely be back to try other items. What a cozy little place! The grilled pork spring roll was so fresh and delicious! Loved the charred on the flavorful pork, with that sticky dip sauce! If you're a vegetarian like I am, I'd give them a try. Mind you, I am not Asian at all, I'm Latino, so I wouldn't know if this is a good place to hit up for authentic-Vietnamese cuisine. As for the food, the portions were good, and the taste was there, I especially liked the tofu. I've never been to the restaurant in person, I only ever had them through UberEats, which is pretty annoying as they go by a different name on there; "Veggilicious." I'm sad to report that I'm very disappointment with my dish since this place was rated so high. I had the beef stew with french bread. The stew didn't seem to have the right spices and was over flavored with salt. It tasted like the soup in the can. The bread was very bland and didn't have that buttery flavor that it suppose to. My partner had the supreme pho and said it was good. He's Latino so I don't expect him to know how it suppose to taste like. OMG we lucked into eating here once and don't dare try any other Vietnamese place now for fear of being disappointed! Their flavors are always on point and when we used to go in person (pre-covid) it always made me happy to see who I think is the chef (an older, quiet man) come out from the back and bring the delicious food. The beef, shrimp and egg roll combo: the beef was a few thin slices of pho beef, three pieces of over cooked shrimp and what is with the egg roll? The egg roll has a filler in it... A new food establishment in Old Town Monrovia! And this one is right across another Vietnamese restaurant on Lemon Street. Competition much? I have been to the one across the street but I have to say, I much prefer Saigon Avenue. Came here on a rare rainy night recently and my parents and I were pretty much the only customers there. Great family owned business with decent prices. We were pretty hungry and ordered three different apps: Fried Tofu, Spring Rolls, and Egg Rolls. My dad had the Seafood Pho, my mum had the Rare Steak Pho, and I had the Pho Supreme (rare steak, brisket, flank, tripe, tendon, beef ball). I found the broth very flavourful! Noodles weren't soggy and it's a huge serving so I didn't actually finish my pho. The fried tofu was the absolute favourite that night. It was too good! Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The dipping sauce that came with it was also amazing. They only give you two egg rolls per order. Same goes for the spring rolls. Mm I look forward to coming here again for the fried tofu. This is one of my favorite local pho spots. I always get the chicken pho with veggie broth. They don't have chicken broth, which is fine with me. I've ordered take out twice since the pandemic and both times were delicious. The staff there remembered me over the phone, which made me smile. I used to eat there a lot precovid. The ingredients and freshness stood out. The waitress told me how to mix everything together (which I'm glad she did cause I forgot!) Love this place! My siblings and I visited a few days ago after being drawn in by the great Yelp reviews. It's kind of a drive from where we are but it's well worth. The restaurant itself is fairly small-- with only around 10 tables inside and 2 tables in their outside patio. I opted for the Pho Veggie $8.95 because I've been trying to eat relatively healthier lol. I didn't know what to expect but I ended up really enjoying my pho! Their portions are huge, ingredients are fresh, and their broth was tasty and flavorful! Price is pretty standard compared to other pho restaurants. Customer service on the other hand was great! There were a couple of pho places to choose from in Downtown Monrovia but after reading some reviews we decided on Saigon Avenue. It sure didn't disappoint! I'm always weary of trying Asian restaurants outside of the San Gabriel area but this one actually tasted pretty traditional. For pho, it's all about the soup base- this one wasn't too salty and was quite tasty! I had the pho with the brisket, tendon and beef balls. It doesn't look like a big portion upon arrival but I was stuffed after finishing the meal! The service was good and considering we arrived at 8pm on a Friday, the place was full! My only complaint is that the prices were much higher than what we can get in the SGV, but we'll be back for the convenience. :) read more

Just pure yummm. I always have the meatball pho and the broth is the best around here. The classic Pork Trio with vermicelli, grilled pork, grilled shrimp, and egg roll is something we get every time. The meat is so flavorful its ridiculous... bursting with lemongrass. Tracy the owner was nice enough to make us a half portion of the grilled pork chop that we wanted to try. That was good too. I have ordered from Saigon Avenue many times in the past and normally Saigon Avenue is great. However, the last 2 times I have ordered from here, I have been very disappointed. I only ever order rare steak pho and sometimes an appetizer. The rare steak has always been on the side when I have physically been in the location and when ordering through grub hub. Now - you would think "RARE STEAK" means that the steak would come on the side rare, right? No. Wrong. My "rare steak" came inside the broth, well done, as a ball of meat. It came the same way for the person that was sitting with me. In fact, according to the restaurant staff, it is only the name of the dish and will only give you steak rare IF requested. What is the point of saying you want rare steak pho (which, in fact would say HOW YOU WANT YOUR STEAK PREPARED) and you get this grey, well done, ball of meat in your pho? Now granted that I yelled at the person on the phone, and I will admit fault in that, that doesn't change the fact that the last 2 times I ordered this dish, it came this way and it is not what I ordered. I would have given one star, but my noodles were good. However, I will never order from here again. read more
