Best Thai and Vietnamese in the Buffalo area. I have had Thai and Vietnamese all over town, and Saigon is by far the best. Great service, nice restaurant, and a full menu of goodness. My FAVORITE meal: vermicelli with chicken, summer rolls, Tom yum soup with shrimp and a Thai iced tea. They have the best Tom yum soup I've ever tasted in my life and I get tom yum at every single Thai restaurant I go to, perfect blend of spicy and lemongrass. The vermicelli comes with noodles, julienne cucumbers, carrots, shredded lettuce, bean sprouts, cilantro, chicken in a rice vinegar type dressing. Its mouthwatering! I literally used to come here one a week, I was a regular, but since I moved away I can only come when I'm back visiting, but I always make it in for the best Thai/Vietnamese in town. read more

We had a very delicious restaurant week dinner. The place wasn't too busy and we were seated right away. Restaurant week included a soup, roll, and entree. I went with the veggie roll, tom khar soup, and the yellow curry, all made vegan. Very, very yummy!! The hoisin sauce that came with the veggie roll tasted great. My favorite thai spot by far among the rest in the buffalo area. I tried one of their specialties - tamarind basil pork - good mix of sour sweet spicy and salty. It included an even mix of veggies and meat. My only complaint - not as spicy as I thought it would be - i ordered a 3 out of 5 on the spicy scale and it tasted like a 1. I'll have to ask for a 4 next time. Their vietnamese spring rolls were excellent as well. read more

It came with a choice of white or brown rice. I chose the brown... and it was barely beige (ha!). The chicken dish was bland... bland.... bland. White meat chicken, cashews, pineapple, onions, and baby corn were mixed together in a nondescript white sauce, and topped with a sliver or two of scallions. I don't understand how a restaurant can be open until 11 PM but not make food to 11. Also when asked why the hours are until 11 if they close the kitchen before that, I was told, "The restaurant is open to 11, just the kitchen closes." I'm sorry.... what? Perhaps if this is the case your hours should say closes at 1030? The comment "It says we close at 11 because we want people out of here by 11" isn't the best representation of customer service or the culture of your restaurant. I run a restaurant. I understand the annoying feeling of someone walking in 5 minutes to close. It's irritating.... however part of the profession. Also I was calling 40 minutes before close. As a complete skeptic regarding authentic flavors in out of the way places, I boldly embarked upon my quest for some semblance of home. Home being San Francisco and currently I'm in Buffalo caring for my sick relative while riding out the pandemic until I too can have the vaccine. However, 6 weeks into my stay in Buffalo growing more hungry for my favorite Thai restaurant back home, I stumbled upon this restaurant as I was headed to the pharmacy on yet another drug store run. Well, I do believe in Christmas again! Yes, this restaurant is top notch and has the menu selection that would ensure that I never get bored with eating this delicious food. The flavor profile is dead on the mark and spice level rating is perfectly adjusted. The price is on par with the quality of the food and the proprietors are very friendly and generous with the portions. Their takeout system is excellent. I could rave about this place all day, but I suggest that if you're ever in Buffalo and you want to try a lovely meal that doesn't consist of wings, you should give Saigon Bangkok a try. You're going to have the best meal of your entire visit. read more

I went here on a last minute decision to expand my horizons of eating by trying Thai for the first time. I had no idea what to expect coming in. When we pulled into the parking lot, we saw people in the restaurant (I didn't go to a restaurant on a date last week because we would have been the only customers in the whole place) which was already a plus by comparison. We waked in and it was a small but elegant place to be. As this place does takeout they asked how they could help us. We got seated and close to my left was a nice arrangement of purple orchids. I don't know if they were real or not, but they looked great. Water was poured immediately after sitting, and it had pre-crushed limes in it, so the water was nice and citrus flavored. I asked about what the Thai-style iced tea was, and she explained it as "tea, sweetened with condensed milk, and it's got a unique taste." The vagueness along with the word 'unique' intrigued me into buying it. She was right in the long run. I'm not sure exactly how I'd put it, it was sweet, and I've never seen iced tea that was reddish, but it was definitely a distinct taste that I look forward to tasting again. Before I go on with the food, I must talk about the menu. I laughed when I saw it, but there's a notice on the menu that says that they add no MSG to their food. I only thought "I'd hope you don't," and it was comforting to at least know that that's what they said. Also, there are asterisks on certain foods on the menu that correlated to a spice scale. The menu said the ratings were from 1 to 5, which is fine and all, but I have to say I was confused when the most stars on the menu I could find was two stars. I ordered the Tom Yum Goong (2 starred), and my date got the Tom Khar Gai (1 star), and then the Pad Sea-Eew (0 stars, in case it the soup was too spicy) and my date got Pad Thai. The soup didn't take long, and it was absolutely delicious. For anyone that might (SHOULD) plan to go, two stars means sort of spicy, not too bad, but definitely enough to get the palate to tingle a bit. It had mushrooms, which I hate, but I ate them anyways because they were soaked in the yummy broth, so it was too good to pass up! My date enjoyed the Tom Khar Gai a lot too. My dish was wide noodles that are stir-fried and then put with vegetables in a soy sauce based dish. It was fantastic, and so was the Pad Thai I sampled. I can't give too much of review on the main course because I don't know anything about southeast Asian cuisine, but I can say it was served quite hot, and well-made. To begin with, we called to see if they could handle Gluten Free, which were told, yes of course! We get there and the only GF options are Vegan...meats do not contain gluten, so why are only vegan dishes safe? They "don't know". We ask if they can do Thai tea w/ coconut milk instead of dairy milk, we were told they don't have Coconut milk...then they admitted that the tea was premixed with condensed milk but they could bring me coconut milk on the side..AFTER I explained that I had a dairy allergy...no one knew condensed milk was still dairy. Our order was screwed up and I got the feeling we just were not welcome. This is the 2nd instance of this type of treatment, and we will certainly not be back! read more

Much prefer the Transit location to this location. The food seems better there for some reason... That being said, I ordered the yellow curry with chicken. Chicken was tough. It wasn't my favorite tasting curry. I much prefer the green curry or panang. The Thai tea I ordered was $3.50 and the glass was small and half full of ice. Much smaller than at the Transit Road location. Plus it was pre-mixed. Maybe this is picky but I like the gimmick of when the light milk and darker tea are separated. Anyway, it also seemed like we had to wait for too long for our food. Once we got the check the waitress kept circling around to see if we had taken care of it. They had probably 75% vacancy in the dining area so I don't know what the rush was. As we were finishing up a table of old farts were seated next to us. We were not being loud but we were chatting and this place is super quiet. My friend heard the old farts ask if they could move tables and the one lady kept giving her dirty looks. Weird! Yet another Thai place full of rude old people who are totally catered to (yes, I'm looking at you Thai Orchid). Put a bad taste in my mouth. I will only visit the Transit location from now on. Much more diverse clientele, seemingly better food & drinks, and fewer old people to disapprove of a group of 30-something young women trying to enjoy a girls dinner out. BAM! read more

I was feeling pretty hungry on a Friday night and had a craving for Thai food, so I met up with a friend here. There's a few things that every Thai place should do well in my opinion; the first is Thai iced tea and Thai iced coffee. They're not overtly complicated drinks, just tea or coffee and condensed milk. Saigon Bankok's was clearly from a bagged mix, which definitely wasn't a great sign. The next is a great curry; it should be slightly thick, sufficiently spicy, and loaded with tons of veggies and protein. It should be spicy enough to make you question stopping, but delicious enough to make you think twice. Saigon Bankok's was decent, maybe a little too thin, not quite spicy enough, but overall good. The last is noodles. Most people would tell you to get Pad Thai; I would tell you to get Pad Kee Maw. Think of it like Pad Thai's cheesier cousin: it'll slap you across the face, hard, then apologize and give you a hug. At least it should. Saigon Bankok's Pad kee maw was delicious, but like their other food, not spicy enough (and before you ask, I did upgrade the spiciness). The verdict - the powdered Thai tea is a prediction of things to come: the meal will taste good but lacks the spice to really compete with other Thai food in the area. read more

Love that we can go out and not have to eat pizza and wings every night while living in Buffalo. Don't get me wrong... I love my pizza and wings but I need some variety in my life. I've never loved a food so much that I went back the next day... Until now. I mean, to be fair, I went to different locations with different people so that it didn't seem like I was obsessed but I'm obsessed. I went with a group of three other people during a weekday lunch. The place was empty and awkwardly quiet, but the staff was very friendly and knowledgable. Our food came out within 15 minutes, no mistakes at the table. I ordered vegan green curry with brown rice and pretty much found heaven right there in the bowl. I've since had several curries there, and it would seem that you just can't go wrong with Saigon Bangkok curry. I preferred the menu at their Niagara Falls Blvd location, but The atmosphere is much nicer at the Transit Rd location. I definitely recommend going here for lunch or dinner. My friend and I wanted a noodle night, so we headed to Saigon Bangkok for the evening. I had heard lots of good things about this restaurant, and we were not disappointed! While we were on a strictly pad thai eating plan, the dishes were artfully arranged, and the noodles were flavorful and fresh. I got the Basil Pad Thai, which had a nice little kick (not too spicy, just enough) and my friend got the regular which was sweet, but not overly so. The portions were deceptively large (deep dishes!) and they didn't skimp on the bean sprouts, which I love love love to munch on like a rabbit. I saw some other folks around with soups, and it made me want to try that next! I wasn't super thrilled with the layout of the restaurant, as it was somewhat cramped, which wasn't a big deal with my friend but I am not sure I'd take a fancy date. Also, the front windows face the parking area, and several times I had bright car headlights shining in my eyes. Love this place. Their staff has always been very friendly, they've always gotten our orders correct, they always check with the kitchen staff before hanging up with you on a pick-up order to get an accurate time for your food. And the food, of course, is really great! I usually either get a curry, Pad Kapow, and soup. Never been disappointed. One of the things I like about this place is when you ask for it extra hot, it's actually pretty hot! They even have those little sliced up thai peppers that I'm quite fond of and don't seem to find at other thai restaurants in WNY. read more

I went here for dinner on a Sunday night and the place was half full, but had seven waiters and waitresses working so it didn't seem too bad. We were seated, given water, and after a few minutes the waitress came and we ordered our food. I got the summer roll and tofu curry, my boyfriend got the pho (a friend told us to try it) and my brother got fried rice. Two times the lady asked me if I wanted the tofu curry... after the second time I asked, "Why, what's wrong with it? I really like tofu," and she responded, "Oh, well the summer roll has meat in it. Are you vegetarian?" No. I'm not. But I like red curry, and tofu, and it sounded good. She shrugged, YES, SHRUGGED, and walked away. That disappointed me. It took us about twenty minutes to get my summer roll. At this point I was pretty hungry and gobbled it up - it was good, the chicken a bit dry, but for the price I can't complain. It took us another ten minutes to get our food, which was also delicious; the curry was mildly spiced, the fried rice seasoned well, and the pho was relatively delicious (by the way, is it a Buffalo thing that all the pho broth has pepper in it?) After waiting so long we were all pretty appreciative of our meals. We never saw our waitress after she had taken our orders. We had a total of two waiters giving us water the entire time and two other waitresses who asked us how our meal was and took away our plates. I felt displaced because I didn't know who was getting the tip, y'know? Bottom line is that the food, especially the curry, is well priced, so take out will probably be an option for me in the future. But I'm turned off from sitting down inside ever again. read more

I came here last night and it took forever for the waitress to take our order. Finally after probably 20 minutes our order was taken. Our food still came out promptly and everything was delicious but it still is frustrating having to wait so long for just our order to be taken. My boyfriend and I were also left with our water glasses empty for long periods of time...again, very frustrating. We was driving by the restaurant. I had my husband stop for takeout. I was having a problem pulling the menu on line to order food. My husband went in to asked if he can bring a menu to me so I can order food. I had my 5 month old baby in the car. The guy had to make a big deal about it and asked if my husband is going to bring it back. Excuse meee...where are we going to run off with the restaurant menu?! In the whole restaurant there was only one couple dining. It was 8:30pm the guy told my husband he only had 10 minutes to order because the kitchen is closing. I've been here numerous times and it's delicious every time. The service is always great, they are constantly refreshing your water (which cannot be said for all restaurants). Typically the food comes out very fast but when there's a large dinner party (like tonight) it can drag a bit. The menu is pretty big and their specials change pretty often so if you're not sure what to get the Pad Thai is a safe thing to fall back on, you can't go wrong with it trust me. Been here many times through the years but this most recent visits and the one before that from last summer have both been meh to disappointing sad to say. Went here with my brother for lunch last week and we shared a Tom Yum Goong from their regular menu and a sizzling beef that was on the specials menu that day. The soup was lacking flavor and the beef was ok I guess but came with a hefty $16 price tag which seemed bit steep considering it wasnt really anything amazing. I will say throughout the years my fav thing here was the Thai salmon which I haven't gotten around to ordering again so I suppose some hope is left from the #glorydays. read more

The summer rolls are really good! 2 big rolls cut in half and served with sweet peanut sauce- for $5. The basil pad Thai, on the other hand, was very disappointing. I think I saw exactly 1 piece of basil leaf in there. The whole dish was also too soggy from having too many veggies in there (never thought I'd complain about having too many vegetables) it was basically tasteless. I should've gone with the beef version My husbands pho was good tho- tasted just like how a pho should be. The soup had good spice, big mushrooms, and a healthy amount of chicken. the chicken was a little over-cooked in the soup, but I haven't had a tom yum soup anywhere that didn't have over-cooked chicken. The chicken red curry was good, but it could have used more spice. I like that it was served simmering in a cast iron bowl. Overall, I enjoyed my meal. Id recommend skipping that option and asking for tofu instead, or the steamed veggies on the side. If you leave it in, it makes the pad thai watery. read more

My husband and I have eaten here too many times to count. The prices are great, the food is great quality and quite flavorful. We tend to order the same things over again although we have tried many menu items and all are really good. The shrimp tempura is great for an appetizer as well as the filling soups (tom yum) and the stir fry and currys are delicious.
