Only based on trying one entree. It was sooooo expensive to then a) have pretty much no flavor, and b, have only 5 cashews. But I think they were halved so maybe it was 2.5 cashews. I come here every so often when my companions and I cannot agree on what type of Asian food to eat. Saigon Cafe has a decent variety to include Vietnamese, Chinese, and Thai dishes. The decor is very representative of Southeast Asia, with my 4 year old asking if the decorative chickens were real. Service is usually ok, nothing spectacular. Good variety, but nothing spectacular. This is basically a dive for Emory students who'd like Asian comfort food but don't have the time or local knowledge to go somewhere better. We've come here for years for the pho , which was always mediocre but convenient. The place seems to have slipped from mediocre to plain bad. Previous time I went, the restroom was nasty. This last time, two in our party had pad Thai, which is hard to make bad but they managed to do so. The cook had put the noodles into lukewarm water, I guess, so they were mushy and just smothered in some straight-from-the-jar sweet chili sauce. Worst pad Thai I've ever had. My Rama curry was OK, although it lacked the advertised crushed peanut topping and was strangely stingy on the chicken. Stopped by here after a long day of moving. We didn't want to drive too far since it was traffic hour, so my dad and I decided to stop by Saigon Cafe since it was only 10 minutes from my new place. There were only two tables occupied when we arrived and we were seated pretty quickly. There's a pretty diverse menu here - they offer Vietnamese, Chinese, and Thai cuisine here. I ordered the Pho Tai and it literally came out like 2 minutes after I ordered. Lol. +1 for quick service. I don't think I would come back for the pho as there are better places on Buford Highway, but I would stop by again if I was craving some Asian food. read more

The amount of entree they serve is ridiculous. For spicy basil shrimp entree they gave like 6-7 very small shrimps with tail on and with tons of scallions and onions. Tasted sweet and consistency was clumpy. The chicken tasted bland and the dish, overall, needed a dozen squirts of sriracha to give it any taste. The "fried" rice was more of a version of yellow Spanish rice. The appetizers: spring rolls were 1.5 inches long and about a quarter inch round..not worth the price for two. The new dumplings seemed to have come from a Sam's Club saver pack. If you want anything other than bubbly tea or water, this is not the place. Overall - not worth my 30 minute seat and dine time. First and last time here. Part of me wishes I should've gone for the Pho..perhaps the review would've garnered an extra star or two. I'll never know. read more

Wow, I was surprised at how good this place pho was. THE PHO: My 5-star review is for the cheap and good-tasting pho. I always order the medium beef pho DB, which is enough for me. The price is still reasonable at 9 dollars. But the broth was surprisingly clean, clear, beefy, not now oily, enough sweet. The meat was actually cooked and cut correctly, and seem fresh not the 2-day old freeze burnt taste that you get at some pho joints. Maybe I was lucky and got the fresh of everything batch. Other: I must say tho outside the pho all the other food offering my group was eating did not look good and they all thought it was average. But it's a pho place and maybe luckily for me, I only tried the pho here so far. Service: Im was not sure if he was the manager or owner but was friendly and the server was decent in following up on the table. Did gave us the check which is a plus even tho we were all Viet. I used to frequent this place when I lived in the area, but even after moving, I continued to crave Saigon as opposed to some of its lesser competitors. The interior and service is pleasant, but this time we decided to take out. I had my usual favorite, the Spicy Basil tofu, a spicy blend of basil, peppers, onions and the best fried tofu, along with brown rice, and extra chili sauce. I chose the option to make it "Thai-spicy" which lived up to its name. She had the broccoli tofu, which was simple but equally as good, with white rice. The menu of Vietnamese favorites like pho and bun is highly-customizable, and there is something for everyone. Saigon Cafe is a perfect spot for southeast Asian in Decatur, and always one of my favorites. Enjoy! read more

It was a SIGH-gon type of experience at this particular location near my office. In the mood for quick and filling comfort food to get me through a busy work day, I placed a takeout order for panang curry with tofu which came with a veggie spring roll and egg drop soup. Once I was back in the office, I opened the white styrofoam takeout container and found the soupy curry poured into the largest section and overflowing into the brown rice. The spring roll was soggy from resting in a pool of curry which also leaked into the plastic takeout bag. I generally don't care if my food is touching, or if an item is simply packaged, but I've had Whoppers at Burger King that were wrapped with more care. If there's a shortage on plastic containers to hold items with liquid, I would be glad to bring my own next time. For me, this was average food presented in a careless manner. read more

Hunny enjoyed her pho (I had a taste; the broth was pretty good) but my pad thai was...clumpy? The noodles were weirdly thick and difficult to eat. The sauce was a bit too sweet for my liking. The food came out insanely fast. From the time we ordered to the time we paid and left, I think 20 minutes passed. I might come again, but I wouldn't order the pad thai, and Hunny wasn't enough in love with her pho that we would need to trek down to come here again. I have been coming to the Saigon Café N Decatur Rd Location for many many years as long as I can remember due to living about say 10 minutes from there, everyone of those visits has been really good. My go to picks at this place are The Saigon fried rice in the Thai fried rice, they are both very phenomenal and still are to this day. Hope to be coming back soon, this place has been in our community for so long and has proved to be amazing, I hope they stay here for a while. read more

My wife and I ordered crab rangoon ("cheese puffs"), chicken satay, chicken pad Thai, and sesame chicken. The appetizers were pretty decent. But the pad Thai was inedible. The chicken looked bleached, and the entire dish tasted (and smelled) like old fish. The sesame chicken was a little better; we were able to at least eat a few pieces. But don't waste your money on the "fried rice" - it was just white rice with a little bit of egg in it, and it tasted old. The only reason I'm giving more than one star is because the service was pretty good, it was clean, and the appetizers were decent. But really, don't waste your time or money here. Came here on a whim (who knew everything was closed Sunday?!) and was pleasantly surprised. The interior was a pleasant surprise! It was much larger than expected, and very clean. Ordered the pho tai, and the nem nuong cuon, my friend ordered pho dac biet. The food came out pretty quickly, and our server let us know our pho would precede our rolls because they would have to assemble the rolls. The small was a good size, and the flavor was pretty standard - hit the spot on a rainy day. They didn't have any chili oil out on the table, but they had some in the kitchen! i ordered via uber eats (insanely fast for some reason!) on a monday. order the green curry with chicken, and the cheese puffs. the curry comes with white rice, is a HUGE portion (at least enough food for two meals or two people), and most importantly, saigon cafe has figured out how to tenderize the chicken so that the (typically dry as dust) white breast meat is super tender and juicy. the curry is also packed with veggies - eggplant, bamboo, and baby corn. only minor knock is that the "no spice" option is still a teeny hit of spicy. the cheese puffs would be called crab & cream cheese wontons at any other restaurant. they satisfy any craving for deep fried goodness, just note that the dipping sauce is odd, watery, and pretty flavorless - mostly lime juice? you don't get the standard red sweet n sour sauce you might usually get with eggrolls. i'll definitely be ordering from SC again! and hoping to try a meal in the restaurant in the near future. read more

When you're a hungry college student and you got no car, this place is a beacon of light at night when you're hungry and tired of college food. Pho is one of those comfort foods where you can't really get sick of. It's savory and salty and delicious so it kills that munchies craving you get but yet you don't get full or fat from it too much. Back before it became a huge chain, the menu was TWICE the size. They've cut it down to half. My mom works by their headquarters so I've talked to their people before. However, the best thing you can get is stick to the pho. They have a giant vat of that broth back there and it's always going, and smelling from their headquarters, you can tell they are always making sure that broth is perfection. So get that. Now if you want to deviate from that menu I recommend the Singaporean crispy noodles. It's crispy fried noodles below with stir fried sea food and veggies on top. The pad thai is not bad. The curries I thought were average. I'm Singaporean though, so you can't blame my bias. It's a little watery for my liking. Bubble tea here is a little high for the amount plus you're already drinking so much soup do you really need that thing of sugar water? It's not bad, but i know a lot of people have problems polishing off that thing after you drink your large bowl of pho soup. read more

I came back here yesterday night for the first time in over two years. My sister and I ordered the pad thai and the rice vermicelli with charboiled pork and shrimp. Both were excellent and really authentic. Plus, the portions were generous. We also liked the bubble tea, which had very sweet and chewy tapioca. Prices are now slightly more expensive, but I think the food quality improved. Still one of the best restaurants around Emory. This place offers a variety of Vietnamese and Thai dishes. I was initially hesitant to try the place because of the reviews but overall, I think the food is not bad and it is a convenient option considering its location and hours. They are a decent option for Asian food without having to go all the way up Buford highway. I like their rice noodle dishes (b1, b4) which comes with a choice of meat, shrimp, and some lettuce and bean sprouts. I've tried all of the combinations and I think the grilled pork is the best followed by the fried tofu. I tried the rice combo once and didn't think it was as good as the rice noodle dishes. I tried some of the Thai dishes before. The green curry was very spicy and didn't have a good ratio of meat to veggie so I would not get it again. I can't even remember what the Thai noodle dish tasted like so it was not very memorable. I usually stick to the rice noodle dishes. Located in a small plaza with ample parking. Check in on Yelp! This place served me some fried pork roll after I double checked with 2 different people that I ordered vegetable spring rolls. I was grossed out after biting into one (I'm a vegetarian). When I asked for a refund the girl told me I needed to be more clear when ordering. When I asked for her manager, she brought him over and laughed while I explained to him what happened. This is the kind of place that'll work in a pinch. You won't find yourself craving Saigon itself, but if you're in the need of a pho fix, and you're in the area, this is your spot. As others have mentioned previously, the staff is a bit of a mixed bag. I've not once had anyone ask me if I needed anything in addition to my initial order. There have been times I'd like to add a bubble tea to my meal but I was simply brought the total check not 5 mins into my steaming cauldron of soup. The management should probably do a bit of retraining there. I don't like to be upsold, but I'm not going to go to the trouble of having my ticket re-rung just to add one item either. The pho itself is pretty good. Not as good as anywhere on Buford Highway, but as I said before, if you're in need in the area, it'll do the trick. Avoid the one with the meatballs though (can't remember the name of it). I tried it one time and it was disgusting. Big pieces of almost plastic-like fat were in the meatballs, not good. It's been a while since I last wrote a review for Saigon Cafe. And since that review, I've gone back a few more times and with my big dog, Simba. First, this cafe sits in a corner on a north decatur lot. Parking here can be tough especially during the summer. There are no trees in the parking lot for your car to hide for shade. So today I found a spot right in front of the cafe and kept my window half way down to cool the car. Saigon Cafe has a little 'outside' area for people who don't want the comfy AC inside. We had to sit outside because of our dog. Service for those outside is just as attentive for those inside. A big plus is that our dog could lie in the open area all to himself. Today I had the B4 Bun. Bun (pronounced 'boon') is the dry version of a regular pho and it comes with a little side dish of fish sauce. It's also cool, just right for summer. B4 comes with grilled shrimps, shrimp patty and a spring roll. Among other shredded veg. Very refreshing. And if you check in on Yelp!, you can get 50% off your drinks. We had a cool, iced Vietnamese coffee. Yumz. Favorite meal of the day before we went back to our cooler car due to the open car windows. read more

Phó- not the best and not the worst I've ever had. I think the taste was messed up because i also ate the chow fun. Chowfun- was the biggest disappointment because i had been craving chow fun for weeks. at first look we couldn't even see the noodles. So I got the Hu Tieu Saigon which consisted of bbq pork, crabmeat filament,s shrimp, quail egg, fish balls, green onion and egg noodles. (I'll have you know, by the way, that I'm reading these dish descriptions off their website.) Then my boyfriend had their Tieu Chau which had bbq pork, shredded chicken breast, shrimp, chives, chinese celery, green onion, and egg noodles. Noodle soup differed from pho by the fact that it was made with chicken broth and tasted sweeter. Last but not least, we also had Banh Tom Co Ngu as an appetizer which was tempura sweet potato and shrimp served with a tangy fish sauce. Strange as it sounded, it was actually pretty good. Overall, loved my experience here and would definitely come back! I recommend because it's a great atmosphere and lots of menu choices WITH pictures so if you're not familiar with vietnamese food, then that really helps. Don't let these average reviews deter you from stopping by. I've been to this place a few times. The atmosphere is calm and I felt relaxed. The food was a good mix of Asian cuisine, like a fusion but inexpensive. By far my favorite meal was the Saigon noodles. You have the option to add the meat of your choosing which is nice because sometimes I want something other than chicken! The Thai inspired dishes are good and not too spicy. My other favorite thing to get here are the boba/ bubble tea drinks. A great assortment of favors, with or without milk is sure to please. In fact sometimes we only come for the bubble tea when we are in a hurry. This is nice since in this area there isn't any other good bubble tea available. The two favors we consistently get are the avocado and taro. My sister loves strawberry and cantaloupe. If you want good food at a reasonable price, this may be the place for you. read more

Three years later, an update: I came here for lunch with a coworker, despite my prior decision to not return. All in all, it was okay for the price. Inconsistent service is the main issue. They brought my food seven or eight minutes ahead of my friend's, which is annoying and unprofessional. They also don't apologize for the sort of minor issues that wouldn't go overlooked in a higher level restaurant. Bottom line: Adequate but thoroughly unremarkable Vietamese food, on par with economical price. Brusque and shoddy service at times. It is what it is. Went here with a couple friends and we came out of here confused as to why this place had an average of 3.5 stars in some other rating apps. Each of us ordered our own pho tai and boba drink along with a platter of spring rolls. The side of peanut paste for the spring rolls was AMAZING and the pho broth was so light yet flavorful, as pho should be. Noodles were also very great and not dry at all (unlike some other places I've been to nearby). I would highly recommend trying this place out! Definitely deserves a higher rating!
