Tonight I got charged $9.45 -- more than any other noodle dish on the menu -- for an uninspiring pile of tofu and veggies over noodles and gravy. Why? Apparently the server created a custom dish when he asked if I wanted tofu and vegetables. Even with the 20% early bird discount, this was a ripoff. Fortunately, I seem to have escaped the fate foretold by their 76 health score. Wheelchair accessible? Not generally, no, thanks to two heavy doors at the front. Three years later, an update: I came here for lunch with a coworker, despite my prior decision to not return. All in all, it was okay for the price. Inconsistent service is the main issue. They brought my food seven or eight minutes ahead of my friend's, which is annoying and unprofessional. They also don't apologize for the sort of minor issues that wouldn't go overlooked in a higher level restaurant. Bottom line: Adequate but thoroughly unremarkable Vietamese food, on par with economical price. Brusque and shoddy service at times. It is what it is. Went here with a couple friends and we came out of here confused as to why this place had an average of 3.5 stars in some other rating apps. Each of us ordered our own pho tai and boba drink along with a platter of spring rolls. The side of peanut paste for the spring rolls was AMAZING and the pho broth was so light yet flavorful, as pho should be. Saigon Cafe has pretty solid pho and it's located along my university's bus route so I tend to go often whenever I need to stock up on groceries at the Publix next door. I always get the P2 pho (rare steak) and A1 appetizer (grilled pork spring roll) to split with a friend. The broth here is great and the portions are more than enough! If you want the fastest, safest possible COVID-era food pickup experience this is your place. The food is great, but these days how a place organizes its pick-up is the most important thing for me. Because, you know, I don't want to die picking up food. Here Saigon is, hands down, the best place to order food during the pandemic. Here's why: 1) Speed: order the food via their website, and it will be there when you get to the restaurant. I live about a ten-minute drive away and the food is always ready when I arrive. Amazing! 2) Safety: walk in, and your food is sitting right there by the door. I've never had to get close to anyone when I go to pick up my food, as I was able to pay in advance online. That's it! As for the food, the Vietnamese food is excellent, and the Thai, while not quite as good, is still pretty good too. Could I get better Thai food? Probably. But if you factor in how well they've organized pandemic pick-up this is, right now, my favorite restaurant in Atlanta. Soft Drink Refill Speed: 10/10 The restaurant is bigger than it first seems (it's long and narrow) so I've never waited. The service is very attentive and the food is out quickly. I've only ever had the chicken pho (P5) here, but I get it every time because it's delicious. The nem nuong cuon (A3) is also very tasty. Please don't eat here. I was a regular customer until one day I decided to try the p5 (pho). The cooks and a server there kept peeping over & laughing at a patron as she ate the pho she ordered. Well, My pho came to the table and the cooks and server were now giggling and looking at me from afar. It was like they were waiting for me to try the soup. Because of their weird behavior....They made me feel uncomfortable. I had a suspicion that they may have done something to the soup. The broth looked like urine and smelled funny. The location is fine although parking was a little difficult. The plaza has weird parking layout so if you couldn't find online in one row, you would have to drive out onto the road to turn into another row. The place inside looked huge for the size of the building outside. The service was super quick!! We were seated and our orders taken in just a few minutes. It felt like our food came out instantly cause I didn't wait long at all. Check came without us asking which is both a good and bad thing. For fast easy Asian cuisine when you're too lazy to drive up Buford Highway, Saigon Cafe fits the bill. It's larger inside than it looks from its strip mall exterior, and it's also pretty clean. The menu includes a sampling of foods from different Asian cultures, especially different hot soups. We started with an order of shrimp spring rolls, and I got Thai Tom Kha Ga (chicken lemongrass soup), and my boyfriend got Vietnamese Pho Ga. Was it the best we've ever had? Nope. But it was pretty delicious, relatively inexpensive, very quick, and very convenient. We ordered a large Tom Kha and a medium Pho with shrimp. The food was delicious. The broth in my Tom Kha was flavorful and the chicken was tender and fresh. His pho was delicious, too. Kirsten G. hasn't been having the best time lately and we haven't seen each other in what feels like forever. I had some extra time today and I really wanted to see her, so I offered to take her to lunch. Originally we were going to go to another restaurant and when I came to pick her up she told me she had a better idea. I always trust her judgment and she didn't let me down today. I had delicious bowl of Tom Kha soup (which was anything but small, even though that's the size I ordered) along with basil chicken. The servings were great and I was overall happy with the table service. Everyone that worked there was very polite and they have clean bathrooms. If that last part seems unnecessary to Yelp about, you apparently have not experienced a dirty bathroom in a Thai/Vietnamese restaurant... that's all I have to say about that. :) Most importantly... this place is CHEAP! Eating at this Saigon Cafe made me feel like I was a college student; everyone else there were college students, it seemed. I completely agree w Tamara S. about the "ambiguously Asian" part. Dude, I'm Vietnamese, you can't fool me. First, this may seem petty, but I think the herb dish is pretty quintessential to pho. Pho is naked without the basil, culantro, bean sprouts, and lime. That shite ain't just garnish. Well, the server brought out a scanty plate of herbs and old bean sprouts. They did not give me lime, they gave me lemon instead. Lemon has more muted taste than lime imo. So, there goes a star. Although to be far, the server did give us more culantro upon request. The pho only comes in medium and xlarge. I ordered the x-large, which comes in a pretty standard xlarge pho bowl, these days at least. So..., the broth was salty, but not flavorful. So what happens when Han puts hoisin sauce and sriracha in the soup to add some flavor to it? It's even saltier! I think the general public would be content with the pho, but I wasn't too satisfied, especially since there's other great pho places in town. Saigon Cafe, located along the same strip of shops as Mediterranean Grill, is a nice little surprise. Whereas the inside of Mediterranean Grill is equal to the shabbiness of the outside, the inside of Saigon Cafe compared to the outside is a bit like night and day. Siagon Cafe isn't just a vietnamese/thai joint, it's a restaurant. Dark wood and bamboo cover the floors and walls, with seemingly all new furniture pieces. There is even much more seating than you'd expect. The food - while it may not be as authentic as some off of Buford Highway, that doesn't mean that it's not good. Of course if you're looking for the type of down home peasant authentic quality that you would only find from a side vendor in the food markets of actual Saigon... look elsewhere. They've cleaned up the food a bit and while that wild street vendor food chi is missing, there's enough of everything else good to make up for it - if you don't mind americanized dishes. The heat. Unlike other asian restaurants which loose a bit of their flavor and spicyness in translation (appealing more to petty weak palates!), Saigon Cafe doesn't back off. Their Panang is one of the hottest I've tried in a while, definitely hottest in all of Decatur (does that say much? Probably not.) However, you wouldn't be able to tell from their menu since all of their spicy dishes are only identified by the same identical, single image of a chili. The spicyness of their panang is much more than the thai kung pao. If you like the Vietnamese dish of Pho and all it's variations, you should be well taken care of at Saigon Cafe. They dedicate an entire page of their menu to Pho dishes, totalling roughly fifteen or more variations. If you've never had Pho before, I'd say this is a good place to start exploring and trying some out (before you make it over to pho dai loi). Bring a friend or two to share because it comes in a big bowl meant for serving from, rather than eating individually. The service... unfortunately is as quick and abrupt as is common in many restaurants of this type. That's too bad. While I understand there is some amount of a language barrier, there are small things that can overcome such walls. However, your water/drinks will be refilled in a regular timely manner, and you won't have to wait for your check. Saigon Cafe is like a hole-in-the-wall family restaurant that upgraded. Unfortunately, with the nicer decor and overall presentation, some of the heart, the essence of the food and people who care about it, is lost. I'll probably try this place again just to see if I'm wrong. Because as our dinner went on, the restaurant filled up. Not with single, lonely, or rushed diners, but with families and groups of friends out for a casual dining experience. Call me weird, but I don't really chew my noodles. I just swallow them. Yeah yeah, I know what you are thinking. Every time I tell somebody about my "secret", they look at me like I'm some kind of monster. Anyways, I don't really frequent restaurants that specialize in noodle dishes for obvious reasons. Same law applies to Saigon Cafe. This is definitely on the bottom of my favorite restaurant list. However, when I get super hungry between my classes and I don't want to eat Emory's horrendous food, then I would choose Saigon Cafe among all other restaurants in the area for one reason. It's not because the food is excellent or anything. It's just that their service is incredibly fast. It's great to stop by and grab a quick bite before my next class. The service is actually so fast that I sometimes wonder they can read minds - something like "Oh, that girl from Table 8 is thinking about having Shrimp Spring Rolls and Pho Tai Nam. I end up here when I'm too l lazy to drive farther for better pho. Everything about this place is just okay. I'll admit I've only ever had pho here, but I've never had an issue with it. Consistently a-okay for being the only Vietnamese option within a mile or so of my house. As for the service, it's a little more inconsistent. For the most part, it's efficient and polite. Rarely cheerful or enthusiastic. The last time we were there, the server's demeanor was indifferent and a bit sulky. At one point, he stopped at our table, muttered something we couldn't understand, and when asked to repeat himself, muttered something else, waved his hand dismissively, and walked away. Oooookay. But the food comes out quickly, the check is dropped off as you're finishing up, and the whole process is quick and relatively painless. I really enjoy doing pick up here! The person answering the phone is not always the most polite but once you have evasively placed an order and pick it up the food is great. I love how they put everything separate for my pho (it prevents my food from becoming soggy or slimy). The pho is the only dish I have gotten from this particular location but I believe it to be a great quick pick up that usually lasts me two reasonably sized meals (I am not a small guy). Not the best, and not the worst, but legit because it is only a 3-4 minute drove from the Emory Law School (without traffic). Service is quick, and this place serves the entire gamut of Viet and Thai cuisine. I have only tried the pho so far, and it wasn't too bad. My friends got some of the noodle dishes, and they didn't look too bad. If you want quick and easy, this is a decent place to go. I've been going to Saigon Cafe for a few years for their Pho. Love it, couldn't get enough. I usually get it to go. My last 2 trips were very disappointing. On the first trip, they were out of basil and only gave me half the noodles than usual. There's a Public next door and a Kroger down the street, were they out of basil? That's a very important component for me in Pho so I had to make an extra trip to Publix for basil. On the second trip, the next week, again I ordered to go Pho and when I got home something didn't smell right. I ordered the P1 and I think it was the tripe. I couldn't eat it. Since I live 40 or more minutes away I wasn't going back that night. Also they have a rewards system that never pays out. Anyone ever check their rewards points? I asked about checking it online and the waitress didn't know. Needless to say I won't be back. Very sad because I really liked this place. Time for a new spot. read more

This restaurant is clean, the food is fresh and the service is great. My wife and I always have a consistently enjoyable experience here! I you live in Decatur, this is your best bet for a quick, inexpensive and tasty meal on those evenings when you don't feel like cooking. The pho and pork dishes, are highly recommended, and in my opinion are among the best in the metro-Atlanta area. I wouldn't recommend any of the Thai dishes, however. Chain Vietnamese food at great prices. This isn't the homey authentic places you find in Doraville or the more up-scale.dining that you'd get at Com. This place has a lot of food and quick service for the money. If you're gluten free, this is one of the largest, cheapest menus you'll find that works for you. If you're a foodie, don't even think about this but if you're looking for the food trough, you've found it. The staff here is always good to me. They're quick, remember my preferences and keep my tea glass filled. Ekin and Tammy have been here for years but the others come and go. The broth on the pho varies in consistency but the portions are enormous. The noodle dishes and rice plates are also generous portions and tasty but not great. The Thai and Asian specialty dishes like Mongolian Beef are the sort of stuff that you can't resist even though it seems like it just came out of a package. The sauces are tasty and often make the meal. They just can't seem to get the iced tea right and I haven't ventured into the bubble tea arena. I have tried a good bit on the menu and come back from time to time for the big portions and plentiful veggies. I stop in here once in a while for a quick bite or when my budget-minded buddies are looking for a big meal but it never seems to be a regular stop, even though it is in my path. read more

These decent chain restaurants serve the most popular Thai, Chinese, and Vietnamese dishes at reasonable prices. Also very popular as bubble tea shops. This location is mostly filled with students, not families. The servers are also almost entirely made up of students, as opposed to the varied and sometimes questionable characters found serving at Buford Highway restaurants. The seasoning is on the safe side and just slightly Americanized, but not at all offensive. No long, regional-specific menu teeming with authentic but less popular dishes found at places like China Cooks or Canton House. I think of this as a place not too interested in tending to foodies or serious authentic cuisine eaters, but still targeting a food-loving crowd that are familiar with Thai/Vietnamese/Chinese staples. Nothing is overpriced. Most taste great. This is rather in the same way that the pasta at Figo tastes great and cost little, if not all that exciting or high brow. Whole shrimp including the head is fried with sweet potato in one of the appetizers. The whole thing is edible. This is very much worth a try if you've never had it. Certainly the service is generally spotty like mentioned. Do not hesitate to complain--these student servers could learn a thing or two every time you complain. read more

I find myself at Saigon often, especially if I'm in a hurry to catch a bite to eat. Their service (especially for pho) is blazing fast. But hey, you're hungry arn't you? As for their other food, you can't really go wrong with a bunch of vegetables stir-fried in oil and savory sauce, even with meat in it. So Saigon Cafe, slow your roll. Now about the food -- my boyfriend ordered the #1 which came with beef balls, which is pretty good. They give you all the stuff and you can add jalapenos and it makes the soup taste a bit better. I had gotten the filet mignon with the yellow rice. They normally season the rice but I dont know what happened this time. They also are sposed to chop up the tomatoes so you can mix it in and eat it all together. That didnt happen either. Even though the decor at some of the other viet places aren't as fancy, but the food was just not up to par. Stick to Buford highway guys. The outside looks like it's just a kitchy front on a cookie cutter plastic chairs and cheap tables joint, but they put some money into decorating the inside, even though it's still really casual. As for the food, I'd call it acceptable but not anything to write home about. On the advice of Yelpers, we stuck to the Vietnamese selections. I got a rice plate with barbequed pork and egg, and The Boy ordered a "small" bowl of pho, which was enormous, and made him miss Japanese ramen shops. The service was quick, and the price is right, but we left wanting to go try some Vietnamese places on Buford Highway, especially to try some barbeque. Food: I usually order the Pho Tom and it's always delicious, my friend usually orders something different each time we go and she's usually been satisfied with her meals with the exception of once. The description on the menu wasn't satisfactory and she ordered a dish thinking it was going to have soft noodles, but it had crispy noodles instead, and very little meat. On a side note, I always see loads of asian people here and I take that as a sign of good asian food. Cost: Appropriately priced, I feel I am getting what I pay for with this establishment. Dining Area: Standard large booths line the walls and there are some standard tables in the center, nothing fancy, but adequate. Parking: Parking is in a shopping center, however it can be hard to find spots at times, but there is usually a spot 'somewhere'. Try to avoid the weekends. Service: Okay, so service here isn't the best. They are very slow and I usually see them texting on their phones and/or sitting at booths doing nothing while customers drinks are empty or almost empty. Usually when I first get there, my friend wants to look over the menu to see what new dish she wants to try, so we tell the server to give us a 'few minutes' to decide, usually it takes 20-30 minutes before they return to take our order and that's too long, again they usually plop down somewhere and start texting, not good. However, once the order is take the food usually comes out at a good speed and all goes well from there.
