I went on a Sunday, for my first time, when it had first opened up around noon time. The moment I walked in, it looked dark and dingy. They were still cleaning. You'd think they'd clean before opening a restaurant. That's what any DECENT restaurant would do. I asked to sit at the bar, which was directly to the right after you opened the door. The bar area, was not very clean. The bartender had his lunch in a wrapper just sitting on the counter. Receipts or something just piled up. Not really professional at all. Not to mention the "cooler" was stuffed with wines along with the fruit that they put in mixed drinks. That's pretty unflattering and unsanitary. Also, I wanted lunch and I had looked online prior, all it had said was that they opened up at noon. Perfect time for lunch, you'd think. Well, come to find out, they do not serve a lunch menu on Sundays. Pretty disappointing. There was a mother and son, a little older looking, that had just walked in about 10 minutes after I received a beverage and ordered my food. No one was there to greet them. I had assured them there were people working there. Made a joke about it, they laughed. I had also told them a few minutes later, still after no one greeted them, that they didn't serve lunch on Sundays, in which they were expecting to have a lunch menu. That right there turned them away but asked for a menu anyways. They ended up leaving. I was sitting at the bar for about an hour, tv was on but not really paying any attention. I asked about the man if I could have the sushi rolls from the lunch menu and he said on Sundays it's only dinner. No one wants to eat dinner at noon on a Sunday. I ordered a shrimp and cucumber roll and an asparagus roll with miso soup instead. The man that took my order, said my salad was "complimentary". I mean you put lettuce and vegetables in a bowl, not really a difficult job to do. I had asked if he had a la carte sushi rolls, since there was no lunch menu, in which I was originally coming in for. I was presented with 8 shrimp and cucumber and 6 asparagus rolls. The shrimp and cucumber was just literally cucumber with no shrimp in it at all. It then took the gentleman about a half hour just to give me my check when I had asked him to get me the tab. All in all, I wouldn't go back. They need a lunch menu all of the time, not just a dinner menu all day Sunday. Be professional about your business and clean your restaurant a few hours ahead of opening it so your customers aren't smelling bleach throughout the entire place of business! read more

I've been here many times for sushi, and it's always been a great experience. We have a family tradition of hibachi on birthdays, however, our usual spot has not been so great the last few times so we decided to give Sake a try for my daughter's 10th birthday. The wait was a little longer than expected, and although the staff kept us constantly updated, we were in no rush so it was not at all a problem. They gave us a complementary appetizer while we waited, which was definitely not expected but appreciated. Our hibachi experience was fantastic... the food was so good. Sake has some great food. I've been going there for lunch and dinner for at least 12 years. I love their special rolls and hibachi. I could eat the heart's delight roll every week! I will say that they seem understaffed at times; however, the owner is friendly and most of the waitstaff are as well. I've gotten complimentary rolls, appetizers, and even a drink here and there from the staff. That is very much appreciated! Sake is busy, and so sometimes you have to wait for a table or for someone to take your order. But, I will keep returning for their food. I'm so glad that it's open for dine-in service!! read more

Cool little spot right off of silas deane highway! I love the waterfall feature they have right when you enter the restaurant. Very extensive drink menu for cocktails, but more than 75% of them have vodka in them which isn't my favorite. Plum wine is phenomenal along with the signature scorpion bowl, of course. They have a sake tini which is sake and plum wine. This was my second time being here and ordered the wak fried calamari which was amazing! Such a nice crispyness to it without feeling like it's been completely saturated by fry oil. I enjoyed it so much I forgot to take a picture when it first came out haha Godzilla roll & foxy lady roll are both great selections from the sushi specialty roll menu. Service has been a lot slower from when I visited at the beginning of the year, but that seems to be the theme in these parts of CT with the shortage of workers. As it being a Wednesday afternoon I didnt expect it to be fast, but a little more organized. Not extremely busy and waitresses forgot about drinks. Maybe it's not custom to bring them out right away here? Sushi makers took quite a few cell phone breaks while we pushed towards the 20 minute wait mark after ordering our specialty rolls. We ordered takeout from here and it was hit and miss. We ordered the mini wonton soup and the chicken noodle soup which were both not good. The pork inside the wontons were a little dry and it wasn't very tasty. The chicken noodle soup came in two different containers. It came with the broth in one and the noodles and chicken in the other. However, upon opening the noodles and chicken container it smelled very odd and fishy- not like chicken at all. We even gave it a try and mixed it together and it still did not have a great taste. However, we also ordered the steak and chicken hibachi which was incredibly tasty! It comes with fried rice AND noodles which is a plus because usually it's one or the other!! It also was a pretty good serving size; I ended up having some let overs. I also requested that the steam be cooked well done and they were able to do that and it tasted great! The service was alright. When we called they picked up pretty quickly and the food was ready in about 15 minutes. When we went to go pick it up however the person at the front was a little short with us. Overall, not a bad experience; I would definitely recommend the hibachi but not the soups. read more

This is my go to place for sushi when I am in central Connecticut. It's a perfect middle ground meeting area for my friends and family to visit. The owner is very nice. He has gotten to know be my name and always makes me feel welcome and special. Sometimes he'll even surprise the table with an app or extra roll on the house! Service can sometimes be slow, but never terrible. Usually there's only a few waitstaff and a lot of fun tables. The sushi is delish too. Always fresh. A lot of fun special rolls to choose from. Came here one night and the service was terrible! We walked in and the manager was at the counter and he totally ignored us and continued his conversation on the phone. He finally acknowledged us and sat us down. He was also our server since they only had one person on...on a Saturday night! Long wait for ordering, receiving our food, and getting our check. I am guessing because he was too busy conversing with a other customer that is a regular there. This is definitely not how you get people on your restaurant and having them return. The sushi was ok. Called before we went to ensure they were still doing entertainment during the hibachi experience. I specifically asked if they were doing sake and vegetable toss amongst other things and they ensured me that of course they would and that's what makes the experience. I also asked if we needed a reservation for that night, and they said no. We got there and sat right down with great timing. Another party was sitting across from us at a separate griddle and the cook walked out. He was very nice as he walked up to the griddle across from us to cook all of our and the others food at the other parties griddle. He didn't once offer Sake, or do the vegetable toss, or even talk to us at that point. So not only did we watch this gentleman's rear end the entire night, but we also were directly lied to. When I asked the waitress why we didn't get our own show as we requested it and she said "oh, we only have one cook. I should've told you that, next time I will". I have to confess: I'm a Benihana whore! I love the ginger sauce and the ginger dressing. I love the kitschy show with the onion volcano. I love sitting with other folks enjoying their company or making bitchy comments quietly to my sweetie about other guests. Back in 1986 when I spent a month in Hartford there was a dearth of ethnic restaurants. There was one sushi place in Glastonbury AND there was Benihana somewhere in the Farmington/West Hartford area. Yeah. Once I knew we were going to spent some time here, I looked it up.No more Benihana in CT. Now, you see, my sweetie doesn't really like Benihana. The food is fresh and healthful but has little flavor except for the dipping sauces. But after 19 years he knows to not stop me from going to teppanyaki. After being cooped up in the apartment for 4 days and having a sweet fireman dig out our car from the blizzard we went on an excursion. Anywhere! First stop was Ace Hardware to get a snow shovel. Then to Panera to get sourdough for my lunch sandwiches. And, alas, we saw a Teppanyaki place. It was early and we were promptly seated. Big Japanese beers were available by the bottle or can. There was also a full bar in the other room which looked inviting. I ordered my usual steak and lobster. Jack had filet and scallops. The salad had an Asian dressing with ginger but it was white. This is not my favorite dressing but was authentic and familiar. The onion soup was not that flavorful and luke warm. Our chef/cook was a delight. He was Taiwanese. He put on one of the best shows I've ever seen. There was a huge blaze which made my husband bald. (Just kidding.) In addition to the obligatory onion volcano, he also had guests catch little pieces of broccoli in their mouths and we got sake squirted into us also. He even scared on the the women at our table who had ordered hot sauce with a fake bottle. We all thought he had just soiled her top with Sriracha sauce. And now to the food! Fried rice comes with the meal as do fried noodles. (Do ask for a rice bowl if you're using chopsticks as they put all the food on the same plate.) The rice was delicious. The veggies actually had a fantastic flavor as did my steak and lobster. The dipping sauces were not even needed although quite good. Jack loved it and he doesn't really like Benihana. This rivals our experience in Honolulu HI. We'll be back. read more

I went to this restaurant on 11/08/20 and initially noticed that it was not as populated as in the past. I ordered the coconut and curry seafood combo and it was disgusting! I spoke with the owner and he became defensive and rude- stating "this meal is not returnable." He insisted that this was my opinion- despite the fact that I explained to him that the meal lack flavor of the two prominent ingredients (coconut &curry). He the told me that I "have to respect" him after I told him that I refuse to pay for the meal. He then tried to explain that he could not afford to give me a refund due to COVID. Place is fair on food, decor, and on service. This restaurant is half hibachi and half sushi. If you are here for hibachi, hurrah! You win. Its pretty nice for large groups, and entertaining. If you are here for sushi its pot luck on everything else. Some parts of the eating area is nice, while others look like it was quickly decorated with wrapping paper that was on sale. Oddly lit, sometimes you are in dim light, sometimes no light, sometimes too much. And if the hibachi area has a rowdy party crowd you may find yourself either talking loudly or not at all during your own meal. Food is decent. Sushi rolls vary from really good to par. The specialty rolls are the way to go. As for main entrees it runs slightly higher than fast food takeout. Do not try to order off the menu. If you try and substitute you may not eat that night. We asked for an order to substitute one vegetable for another and the dish never came out. So, if you want to go as a group stick with the hibachi. If you are going for a party of 2 or 4 and want sushi your time here is a gamble. We have been here many times, some great, some pretty awful. read more

(first review ever made on yelp, because this is the only restaurant that has repeatedly disappointed). Okay, so I used to go here quite often a couple years back and the food was wonderful as well as the service. However, I must say that has changed tremendously. I have gone about four or five times in the past 6 months or so before I made the decision of writing a review. The first couple of times, it took the waitress a good 20 minutes before even greeting us and taking our drinks (mind you it was not busy). In addition, the waitress that takes your drinks and order is not always the same waitress that brings your food (leaving plenty of room for CONFUSION). Our drinks were not refilled but one time throughout our entire dining experience. The food was decent those couple times around, so we decided to come back ( thinking it may have just been a rough couple of times for them). The next few times going there were even worse. Being a vegetarian, I ordered vegetable gyoza, vegetable fried rice, and vegetable rolls. The waitress came back with BEEF gyoza, fried rice with EGG and the second vegetable roll I bit into had some strange black thing in it. I asked her to please bring back the BEEF gyoza because that was not what I had ordered. The waitress agressively responds, "You did not ask for vegetable gyoza". I responded with a dumbfounded look and insisted I did order the vegetable gyoza. My friends also backed me up saying I had clearly stated that everything must have no meat in it and specified vegetable everything and no egg in the rice! I then finally rudely received my vegetable gyoza. Okay.. So if that all wasn't enough, I returned today because my boyfriend insists on eating here because he prefers their hibachi and its convenient due to the time restraint he had before work. He ordered the chicken hibachi, I ordered a roll. I decide to take a few noodles off of his plate, because they did look tasty. As I take my second fork full of noodles, I see a short HAIR coiled around one of the noodles. I became absolutely repulsed, and made them aware that we had found a hair. They offered to make him another one, my boyfriend being less bothered by it was okay with their response. I had expected that they would at least taken that meal off of our bill ( which would have been the professional route to take) but no they did not, and God only knows whether or not they even gave him a "new plate" of food! Ugh, to wrap this very long descriptive review up.. I will not be stepping another foot in this restaurant and I recommend that you DO NOT waste your time or money coming here, it's truly not worth it. Where should I begin, the bad food or the deeply disturbed owner/manager of this establishment? Okay, the service. We ordered takeout (my birthday dinner - we decided to eat at home). It was well over $100 worth of food (plus substantial tip), as we usually do. Upon getting home, we noticed that a $14.99 item (udon soup) was missing, so I called them up to inform them. No big deal, maybe they'll remember this the next time I order. Instead, a belligerent wild man (the owner) started screaming at me, telling me I'm lying and that he personally packed the soup. I told him that we emptied everything and that it wasn't there. Maybe he mistakenly put it in another take out order. He started screaming so loud (all I did was point out the mistake), that an employee had to take the phone from him, because he was causing a scene in his own restaurant! This employee pretty much apologized to me (and offered a refund) and said that he's always like this; that he's a difficult man. I'd call him more than difficult, more like crazy. This man was screaming at me at the top of his lungs. Imagine an owner of an establishment behaving like this? It's mind-boggling. I wasn't overly concerned with a refund and at that point I said, I'll get greater satisfaction by posting this on yelp. This happened a little while ago and I'm literally still confounded and confused by his reaction. Dude has some serious issues. Now onto the food - I promise that I'm separating my critique from this awful, embarrassing episode, or at least I'll try my best. The sushi - was far from fresh. The flesh was actually a bit hard at the ends, and had a weird mouth feel. The three of us ate a few pieces before deciding that it wasn't worth eating (or getting sick over)...we mostly ate the tuna rolls which seemed reasonably fresh. Most other pieces smelled fishy. Beef negamaki. This is the first time that I've had negamaki that tasted more like shoe leather than beef, and about as tough. To make matters worse, the terriyaki sauce was sour and bitter. It was totally inedible (how do you mess up beef negamaki???). This was the overall consensus by all in our party who tried at least one piece (which is all I could eat). So not only did they charge me for food they never provided, but the food was disgusting as well. I've eaten here before and while normally "meh" mediocre it was never this bad. I mentioned the food quality to him during his meltdown and his screaming became even more unintelligible. I'll just chalk it up and never return. I guess that my revenge is the ability to report this on yelp and warn people about the quality of the food and the maniac they'll have to deal with if they dare complain. I just want to mention that Kayla, their hostess, is extremely professional and caring and provides great service. She's an asset that this owner doesn't deserve. By the way, she had no part in this whole debacle and I have no idea how she feels about her boss. I just want to make that clear. So far, thankfully no one is sick. I'll make sure to comment if anyone of us does become ill. Even if we survive this, the food tasted awful. read more

Came here for lunch with my coworkers. My manager (HoJ) picked this place because its her favorite Sushi place and she frequently dine here a lot. I had the Hibachi Chicken Lunch Special. Its basically fried rice, noodles & vegetables, plus it comes with miso soup and house salad. The food is good, the sauce on the chicken was bomb, I finish the plate. The staff was nice, she made sure everything is okay and check in on us, made sure we got our drinks refilled without asking. Gave a nice tip for the good service. I love the martini bar and their menu has everything you could want in a Japanese restaurant. My girlfriend and I went here last night and enjoyed lychee martini's and lettuce wraps. The lettuce wraps have a delicious chicken filling with pineapple we love that. we actually talked about making this recipe at home. I have come here since high school days about ten years ago. It has always been my favorite spot. The Salmon Box is what I normally get here since its fresh delicious and literally no other sushi place I've frequented makes anything close to it. They tend to add new things to the menu every year or so. I always spend the extra couple bucks here and try the something new. This time around my wife had hibachi chicken/steam combo. It was delicious and I was able to eat rest the next day for lunch. I got a salmon box like usual, I also got the golden point roll with was cooked salmon inside topped with spicy crab salad and tabiko. And my "try something new" ended up being a crawfish roll which was yummy. We started with hoisen duck rolls and (forgot the name of it) but some sort of fried shrimp that had a spicy sauce on them. Both were delicious. Only problem I have here pretty consistently which is reason for loss of one star is that the waitresses speak pretty much no English, so when placing your order they look at you like you have five heads, and repeat something back to you that you didn't say. Sake is a nice place in a nice area, and the food does not disappoint. The appetizers are fantastic. Try the sushi pizza, it's one of their signature dishes, and it's exactly as good as it sounds. They have great lunch specials. I usually get a lunch sushi combo with snow crab and some kind of tempura - it comes with an average salad and a comforting soup. Comes at a good price too. The sushi is the real highlight. I've had everything from the basics to the I-95 roll, and they're all fresh and delicious. The presentation is appealing as well, even when we're just going for lunch. The hibachi was excellent as well. Everything is flavorful and the veggies are at the intersection of crunchy and saucy, albeit a bit deflated. Sake offers a great selection of cocktails too, I've had a few and they always hit the spot. This is a solid sushi and hibachi restaurant on the Silas Deane, but there are better options. read more

Went to visit this place as a group and we were excited to try a different spot, We politely asked if we can have plastic silverware as the pandemic is still a thing, plus it's personal preference. The manager blatantly goes "what's wrong with your culture?" a table full of black and spanish people we say "excuse me?" he responds "the white people don't care so why do you" we explain to him it's simply preference and he continues to argue.
