Sake Cafe has become one of those spots we keep finding ourselves going back to. The food is consistently good, the atmosphere is relaxed, and it's hard to leave disappointed. Food: The star of the show for me is the mango fried rice. If you've never tried it, do yourself a favor and order it. The sweetness from the mango mixed with the savory flavors works way better than it sounds. It's one of those dishes I end up craving and a big reason I keep coming back. Everything else we've tried has been fresh and well prepared too. Service: Service has always been solid. Staff is friendly, attentive, and keeps things moving without making you feel rushed. Food comes out in a reasonable amount of time and the overall experience is always smooth. Ambiance: The vibe is comfortable and welcoming. Stopped in here with our family and friends, there were quite a few of us, and yet we were taken care of as if there were only two of us there. EXCELLENT staff, all of them so happy and love what they are doing. They helped us make selections, and each item suggested was FANTASTIC. They have such a great menu, there are so many choices, that it becomes daunting as to what we should order. The food is so good here that you forget that your stomach isn't that big. You want to eat and try everything. The house Sake is excellent too; we thoroughly enjoyed it. This is where I apologize to all of you. I was so involved in talking that I did not take complete photos, nor did I remember the names of the specialty plates that we enjoyed. I do have some photos for you, and the Unagi was amazing. This will definitely be a go-to for us when we are in town. BONUS - there is a large Chihuly installation here. It was a very pleasant surprise. We prefer to dine in but tonight we did takeout. We originally called to do takeout from origami but they are closed and will reopen in two months on Maple Street! So we ordered from Sake. The shumai were steamed and I wasn't really crazy about it. Next time we'll do pan seared. The Crunchy rolls were good. We had the tempura shrimp appetizer. They were OK. Edamame is always good. Our party of six came in for happy hour. We ordered and when the check came, our server told us she forgot to do happy hour pricing but comped two of the dishes saying that it evened out. Our party paid with one card with intention to split the bill in private, but after calculating what the correct happy hour pricing should have been, we discovered we were overcharged $22 for the bill. My forever favorite! I've been hitting happy hour at Sake Cafe since grad school, and it was such a joy to visit again. 7 day happy hour, folks! The food is consistently delicious and the service is always great. I think our server was a little new, but she was sweet. The decor is open, trendy and ambient. The walls are full of signed pictures from high-profile, happy patrons. It's just an all-around great place to be with even better vibes. I recommend the goat cheese gyoza and the lava roll. Can't go wrong with the sashimi, either. VERY fresh. And my partner was a big fan of the crunchy rolls, he had at least two! Also, it's pretty accessible no matter what your mode of transportation. Sushi is phenomenal! We come regularly and sat at the bar this time ordered some sake, a peach martini, an espresso martini, and a few rolls. Our bartender was Alysha. She was quick, funny and very sweet. She was telling us how she never liked calamari until she tried it here, so we went ahead and tried it and it was the best calamari Ive ever had. We never thought to order it because we also never liked it either. We had good conversation with our bartender and some of the regulars that sit at the bar 2 or 3 days a week. The happy hour is probably one of the best deals in town. Glasses of wine for 3.63 and half off hot sake and all specialty cocktails. Alysha really made our night. We eneded up chatting and drinking for a few hours and didnt even realize it was time to leave. She has a very very interesting life story and is not afraid to tell you some of the scary but also very funny things she went through before she got here to New Orleans and Sake Cafe We will be back to see her on Tuesdays and Wednesdays when she is working. I called your restaurant on Magazine and spoke to Alisha Sherman on the phone to file a complaint but my simple complaint turned into a bigger issue because of the way I was treated. She was rude, dismissive, condescending and hung up on me. I called several times after and she would answer and hang up the phone on me. She accused me of yelling when I was trying to elevate my voice so she could hear because she said my phone was breaking up. I have never experienced so much disrespect from a restaurant in my entire life! I ask her if I can speak to a manager and she said they didn't have one tonight. When I pressed her to just give me the name of a manager, she said we don't have managers. Then, she told me to call the owner, Neil. She offered that he is never there. I don't think any of that rings true to me. My original complaint/suggestion pales in comparison to how I was treated. I have been going to your restaurant for decades and I know the previous owner. I was calling because I put notes on my order to please not stack very hot food on top of sushi because my sushi gets cooked in transit (this was the second time I couldn't eat the sushi because it was a milky melted consistency) She said I needed to call Uber to complain. Night crew, Jan 7th. Whoever the short bald server is- horrible. The hostess could've let us know the kitchen closes at 9:30 when online they close at 10:15. He came to the table said "great I'll get yall two waters and do you know what food you want" and I said "no but we will have it ready in under 5 minutes" he said "well I need it in under 1" and ran away. Mind you, we're two young girls who were planning on tipping as though we showed up close to close because we get it. Great location in a prime area of the popular Uptown. Plenty of parking in a secure lot which is free for dining in at the restaurant. Horrible welcoming service from the moment of entering inside. From the hostess(Asian female) & host(Caucasian male). No type of formal greeting. Just asked how many in party and was ready to get us sat. We had to ask how/ what to do in terms of of inputting of license plates for parking in lot and the hostesses was like oh yeah, do it here(pointing to a machine) as if we should have been familiar with it. In regardsto service: Not much to say other than she did not know answers to any 80% SIMPLE questions we were asking. The food was good and seemed fresh. On Magazine Street near Washington Ave., I don't go here much because it is on the opposite end of town for me, but every time I do end up making it here I leave satisfied and happy! You know what makes me REALLY happy? Happy Hour! half-priced alcohol form 3-6pm daily. Plus a few appetizer and sushi options at great savings. On our last visit I had some wonderfully done rolls. The Vegetable roll had pickled carrots, lettuce, avocado and pickled onion...AMAZING! I also got a California roll, both "basic sushi" but both were done SO WELL! (and under $4 at happy hour!). The calamari was perfectly fired with a nice sweet and spicy dipping sauce. We also tried the goat cheese gyozi which I would skip next time. They have a small amount of outdoor seating, which was lovely to watch the action on Magazine Street, but also REALLY LOUD on a Saturday afternoon. The indoor dining is wonderfully spacious and beautifully decorated. ADDED BONUS: lots of free parking in a private lot adjacent to the building. read more

Since I was last at Sake, a few things have changed. The service was great, food still tasty, but the overall cleanliness is lackluster. I moved tables thinking that the huge stained white linen on the table was just at that table but nope, it's on all of them. I guess the restaurant doesn't deem them trash worthy. The beverage glasses seem smaller with ice filled to the rim. I would suggest renovating the restroom; the leaky faucet with a wash rag to collect run over water is a no no for the caliber this restaurant use to be. They get a pass because I'm sure the pandemic has a lot to do with the current conditions. The Sake parking lot is now public parking but Sake customers are comped. read more

Hmmm, where do I start? I've been to another Sake Cafe location and wasn't impressed, but figured I'd give this location a try since someone suggested it for happy hour. I'll start with the positive things: free and ample parking, beautiful restaurant interior, nice ambiance, and amazing service! Now on to the food. I had the chicken spring rolls, crunchy roll and pan seared dumplings. They had some great happy hour specials, but everything tasted meh. I was expecting more of a flavor explosion in my mouth and a couple of pieces of avocado in my crunchy roll were starting to turn brown. It was only $4, so I didn't eat it. It was interesting that they only had low sodium soy sauce. I think if I had the regular soy sauce, it could have helped some. I really forget about this place and I'm not sure why. It was a slow sunday afternoon around 2:45 PM. We were seated pretty quickly and we wanted to be seated outside. There are only a few tables out there so they can only sit a few. The host was just bleh. Not the nicest, but not very helpful either. I had never validated my parking there before so I didn't know what to do and he didn't help whatsoever. Once we got seated, our waiter was kind. Didn't mention happy hour though but it wouldn't have swayed our order anyways. We ordered three rolls and an app. The garlic edamame, yellow spicy dragon, flaming volcano roll, and the tootsie. This is one of my favorite sake locations! It's on magazine st so it's in the mix of a bunch of cool places to be. The happy hour is from 3-6 and the drinks are half off. Can't really beat good sushi and cheap cocktails! I love coming here when it's not too hot and sitting outside. Every time i sit outside I see someone I know walking pass lol. Good friendly service, clean restaurant. I asked the server for a vegetarian recommendation, and she brought a hot noodle dish, it might've been Pad Thai (see photo). I quite liked the food, but my dining companion said the sushi and gyoza were just 'ok'. Parking in that area of magazine street is notoriously terrible, but there is a parking lot next to the building and the restaurant validates so you don't have to pay. It's located in a busy part of magazine street so you can find somewhere within walking distance for drinks and dessert after! 3/5 stars. read more
