I'm going to give Sake 4/5 stars because the amount of food that you can get here is insane. There is a large appetizers menu and an even larger rolls section for the sushi. They have special rolls on their all you can eat menu, which I loved. A lot of all you can eat places that are similarly structured charge extra for their special rolls. At Sake, each person is allowed one sashimi sampler, which comes with 8 pieces of fish. If you request, you can get it all to be a certain fish. For the price of $17.95, I really think it's a good deal. It's not the best sushi that you will ever have but it's great for the price you're paying. I did knock off a point for their service. Some of the waitresses are snappy and have a bit of an attitude. Others are quick and get us whatever we want. A quick tip: Do not order the Uni. It's best to go at an off time (if there even is one) because you will inevitably have to face the long wait times due to Sake's popularity amongst high school kids. We got here at around 6pm and ended up waiting about 15 minutes before we got seated. Come here with a smaller group if you want to get seated faster! The vibe in the restaurant is crowded and hectic so don't come here if you're claustrophobic lmao. Consequently, service was only alright, but definitely not horrible. Cooked food: Seaweed salad- I love seaweed salad but this one was kind of too heavy/salty for me cause they added a lot of the sweet sauce. Chicken stir fry udon- Kind of bland...and I think there were more vegetables than noodles.. Age tofu- Flavorless and too greasy.. Chicken yakitori- Bland and dry... Mussels- Pretty good! Note: they take card!! A friend introduced me to one of my new go-to sushi spots! All you can eat sushi for only $14 is incredible. This was my first time trying crab meat ravioli and it's easily my new favorite appetizer. I got an salmon avocado roll and fresh white tuna roll while my friend got a shrimp tempura roll and a sweet potato roll. Btw-- this sweet potato roll is great! Nothing really stood out, but what can you really expect for an all you can eat sushi dinner buffet for $20. For that price I understand why there is a long wait line. I highly suggest you do not order the salmon skin salad. The skin was soggy and the salad was really really oily. The fried oysters were good though. The restaurant is relatively small and the tables were packed together to fit optimal seatings. So do not expect comfortable spacing between the tables around you. The waiters were literally dodging each other left and right. One of the waiters (who looked relatively new to the profession) looked like he had burned his hand refilling tea for the customers. A popular local favorite usually with a waiting line out its doors, Sake is a decent AYCE sushi place for a great deal. Dinner is priced at $18.95 and you're provided with an extensive check list ranging from hot items that include udon/soba noodles and teriyaki to their sushi, sashimi, and special rolls selections. What we appreciated is that the lists you hand in to the waiter isn't just a robotic check slip for the kitchen to process. They do seem to make an effort at accommodating your personal preferences; i.e. we can scribble in "all salmon" for our sashimi appetizers or "with avocado" to our green salads and the dishes will come out accordingly. I prefer this made to order style than a buffet spread. I am not a big fan of their rolls and some of the sushi's temperature just feels too cold, but the sashimi and individual sushi pieces are comparable to regular sushi places, particularly salmon, tuna and eel. We also had pretty fresh tasting sea urchin the night we went. The seating is pretty awful, cramped together to maximize their restaurant space, and the service can range from perfunctory to lackluster. But Sake has a nice variety for a great price that should leave anyone feeling absolutely, painfully too full at the end. read more

This place is a great find. it came recommended by family and friends. For 17.95 (dinner) all you can eat sushi and cooked foods. They use HUGE shrimps in their fried rice and shrimp terriyaki. Everything is so fresh because they always have a line going out the door. Their fried oysters are delicious. The food comes out quick. Pace yourself and dont put all your orders on one slip like I made the mistake of doing my first time there. We ran out of space to put the dishes and the food kept coming. It was scary. We've since recovered from that overdose and look forward to returning again soon. The Kani salad (imitation crab meat and shredded cucumber) was delish--very summery and light. I've always had a slight issue with Sake Sushi even though it's the closest AYCE sushi spot to my home mostly because it's always cramped, noisy and uncomfortable inside the restaurant. I am sure their occupancy level is always over than what it should be. The last time I came which was last year with my fiance on a Wednesday or Thursday night, it was super duper crowded! I felt so uncomfortable to the point I didn't feel like eating because I feel when you'r eating sushi and such it should be in a place you're comfortable with and not uncomfortable.The staff can be a little rude at times and forgetful. I also feel the quality isn't as good. I would rather take an extra 20-25 minute subway ride to Rakuzen (located on Fort Hamilton Parkway) for their better quality AYCE experience and food! read more

For my first visit, I was excited to see how this place compared to other unlimited sushi places I have eaten at in the past. I was in a party of 2 and we got seated within 5/10 minutes which was good since it was very crowded. The ordering system of checking off items on a paper menu was efficient and food was served super quickly. I did have to ask for my soup 3 times and didn't get it until the end of my meal though. The sushi was presented nicely on the place and tasted very fresh. There was a lot of variety in the rolls so I didn't feel like I ordered 2 rolls of the same. You can order as much as you want and use as many menu cards as you want, but beware that they will charge you a fee for any extra food you order that you either do not eat or want to take to-go. The flat rate for dinner is $18.95 per person (unbeatable, in my opinion, for the sheer amount of food you can get, and the quality thereof) so, if you play your cards right, that should be all you are charged. ALSO BE ADVISED: Don't let the name deceive you, they serve no alcohol here. But it is BYOB from what I understand! Suffice it to say, my wife and I love this place. And we're not the only ones. Sake holds a special place in my heart for being my go-to place for affordable AYCE sushi in high school. It's a neighborhood favorite, even though you can definitely get better sushi at other restaurants on 86th Street. You can't beat the prices though since it's AYCE. It's gotten a little more expensive over the years, but $13.95 for lunch and $18.95 for dinner are still really good deals. They offer a wide enough selection of menu items to keep you satisfied. My favorite things to get from the kitchen menu are the miso soup, edamame, and crab rangoon. However, you don't want to fill up too much from the filler menu, as the real stars are the nigiri. The salmon nigiri is my go-to order here. Beautiful, fatty salmon on a nice bed of rice. They also have quite a number of rolls to choose from, but the rolls can be lacking in flavor and quality. The eel sushi was great, with plenty of eel sauce, but when I had the salmon sushi, the warmth of the rice threw me off! That, and it was just normal rice, not the usual sticky vinegar rice. The food actually is not bad for a $12.95 AYCE lunch buffet. You get your standard rolls, a few special rolls, a handful of fish to choose from for sushi, and pretty much any Chinese-run sushi spot dish you can think of - (kani salad, tempura, gyoza, udon, teriyaki, etc.) The raw fish is alright. It's what you would expect from a place like this. You can't expect super high quality sushi for the price they charge you here. The only issue is that you can't really tell which fish is what. Some of them look slightly different but taste exactly the same. My party of four came here for Mother's Day at around 11:30 and it was already packed, even though it only just opened at 11. We got lucky and nabbed the last table. The place is small and they try to fit as many tables as possible so it does get cramped. Chances are, you'll be sitting elbow to elbow with a stranger. The service wasn't amazing but it wasn't horrendous either. It did take a while to get certain items, and they did forget a few items. But by then, we were pretty stuffed already so it worked out for the best! (They charge if you have a lot of food leftover). We got seated quickly but I noticed the tables were really close to each other so if there's other customers next to you, you might overhear what others are saying. I have a mountain of reasons why you should not visit this excuse of an dining establishment. * The food is absolutely horrid. Everything tastes frozen from the tempura to the sashimi. The quality has 100% dropped from my last visit 2 years ago. I would give it 0 stars if I could. The only saving grace is the Kani salad which is not real crab meat by any means but it was at the very least tolerable. * I've met a former employee here and been told that he got paid less than minimum wage. I won't get down to the specifics but I say less I don't mean 13-14 dollars it's more like half of that. This is very clear when you actually sit down and interact with these employees. Most of them can barely muster up the confidence to speak to diners and look absolutely miserable. Service is slow and most of the time the orders will be sent to the wrong table. If you're lucky you'll get 3 dishes in 2 hours (This is for a table of 6 not just me) if they haven't kicked you out yet for the one hour limit. * This is absolutely one of the scummiest restaurants I've been to if you could even call it that. The former employee that I spoke with said they never got to keep their tips! I don't even know if this is legal, to pay them waaaay below minimum wage and take their tips, but It definitely should be. If this continues today I pray for this place's closure. Another AYCE Sushi restaurant and was pleasantly surprised. Sake is a very small place, tables are joined together so you could be sitting elbow to elbow with a stranger. They ask for your number when they are busy and they call you when it is time to be seated. Dinner is $18.95 per per and the disclaimer in the menu say you must pay for any leftover food and rice, they are serious. Food comes out rather quickly and fo the most part is not bad, the rolls and Sashimi are pretty good. Spicy Salmon and Kani salad are very tasty, I ate both. Today was my first time back in a while and quality has changed drastically, not sure if I came on a bad day but it was disgusting. They downgraded on the wasabi, looks neon green and doesn't even taste like it. They also downgraded on the ginger. Fish was not fresh at all and warm, salmon almost tasted fake to me and the only thing I enjoyed in this place was the Kani Salad. The food quality is what you pay for. The price is cheap and they are well known amongst generations. The fish isn't as fresh as I want it to be but it is an AYCE for a low price. The services there is average. It have its on and off days. Sometimes really quick and sometimes slow. I do however would recommend the hot foods instead of the sushi. The teriyaki dish is good and it is consistent. Noodles is small on the servings so it's good for people that like to have a taste. Came here on a Saturday afternoon. Pro: 1. It tastes pretty decent and food didn't take too long 2. It's affordable, $15 for lunch all you can eat Con: 1. All the servers looked super unhappy to be there. And they would just shove the plates at you without a word. 2. It was super crowded, they squeezed 5 of us at a small table for 4, our shoulders kept bumping and a lot of things spilled. 3. There was a hair in the soda and when we told them, they just poured it into another cup.. so gross. 4. Food ranges from mediocre - average. Some of my favorite appetizers are the kani salad, crab ravioli, calamari, and fried oysters. For their sushi and rolls, they stuff plenty of rice which is sure to fill you up quickly. I wouldn't wait on a line for this place... I've been attempting to come here lately but have been turned away due the long line of high school aged patrons who come here. Attempting to find that sweet spot of when there isn't many children or a line has been challenging but doable. I came on a Friday at 2 P.M for lunch with another person, just a 5 min wait as we were a party of two. At a $13.99 all you can eat (not buffet style) lunch price, it's a bargain. A list of items offered is placed at each table and diners simply check what they desire and the quantity, then flag down staff who were then deliver the items to your table. This process can be done many times. Even for those who may not be sushi eaters, there are plenty of cooked options. This would be a good place to introduce those who may of not eaten sushi before. Could be a great place for the family of 4 on a budget if space was more available. Eating at any all you can eat place is a skill, I try not to fill up on rice and heavily fried foods. The salmon teriyaki is soft and drowning in sauce, a must for my palate. I always order a few just for myself, I had four (should of gotten more). The spicy salmon skin salad is another go too, great amount of crisp and sauces, just wish it was a bit more spicier for my palate. The chicken teriyaki would of been bland if not for the sauce, would of preferred to not waste precious space and gotten more salmon. This is my stance on any chicken dish in this joint. The one appetizer I would avoid is the crab meat ravioli, it was overly oily, like oil running down the back of my throat taste. The individual sushi pieces are alright, just because this is an all you can eat place, they use a bit more rice than a higher end place. I've read the reviews of people claiming the fish was "not that fresh", this is an absurd statement. By law, all fish that is to be served raw must be previously frozen. This is the law for lower end establishments and famous exclusive high end establishments. Abroad I've had non previously frozen raw fish and I cannot detect any real noticeable difference a flavor. However texture may be different depending on the fish/shellfish, but that would not be the case for any of the lunch sushi items offered here. Not sure where these pretentious reviewers have eaten at. The rolls of sushi are average but still tasty. In my opinion it's difficult to mess up a spicy salmon or spicy tuna roll. Engagement of staff is not really what this place is about. This is not a standard dining experience, it's flag down staff, wait for food to arrive and have dishes thrown on your table. If you're looking for a the whole dining experience, this ain't it. In order to get more stars from me, I'd suggest being able to serve more without a wait, be a bit more friendly when serving and up the quality of the chicken dishes. We were treated differently compared to the table next to us. I was overcharged $8 with some left overs and the waitress just dropped off two lunch boxes and told us to pack it ourselves. No service provided and very unsanitary. The waiter was touching the inside of my sauce plate with bare hands.
