We called to check the wait time and was happy to hear there was not one for a Saturday night. The reviews looked awesome so I was excited! We were greeted with really friendly servers. They had the warrior game on with two really big TVs! We ordered spicy garlic edamame, salmon sashimi, a crunchy shrimp tempura roll & a baked salmon roll called flaming dragon that they lit on fire at our table. It was super cool! I had never seen that before. It was fun and chill place! We will definitely come back again and I would love to make it our go to sushi spot. We came at 7pm and was being served right away. However, the food did not come until 30-40 mins later. It was not a busy time at the restaurant. We ordered 3 rolls: Flaming Dragon, Baked Volcano, Orange Blossom. Flaming dragon: Its the best among all three. Although it has 'korean' flavor to it, the taste was pretty unique and flavorful. It's very fancy too, they wrapped the sushi with foil, then they flamed it in front of you. About a minute, they opened the foil and it's ready to be eaten. It has seared/burnt taste that I love. The two stars I give is purely for the flaming dragon. Baked volcano: It came after 40 mins. The rice was very crumbly. I couldnot take it with my chopstick because it fell down directly. The rice did not stick to each other at all. They even offered me spoon to eat . Not recomended. Orange blossom: bleh. So ordinary. What's surprising is: the sushi rice has no vinegar flavor. Its bland. It's like regular plain rice. The second one is the avocado, they put unripped avocado. It's still a bit raw so it's crunchy and hard. My 3 sushi cost me $60 with tax and tip. My mom and I used to go here for the bento boxes while it was Ariake, but we are happy to announce that Sake Bomb Sushi has won us over. We came around 1:30pm on a Sunday, still during their soft opening. We both ordered bento boxes, which had Korean and Japanese items. When we walked in, I noticed pretty much all but one customer (out of maybe 8 tables that were taken) all had bento boxes. One item at this time of day was $10.95 and two items were $12.95. Some price differences for premium items, sorry I don't have a menu pic of it. The beef teriyaki (although I ordered beef bulgogi for my mom) was cooked perfectly -- not overcooked, not undercooked -- and dressed with just the correct amount of teriyaki sauce. Bento box included 2 gyoza pieces, salad, rice, miso soup, 4 pieces CA roll and whatever you items were. We waited for about 15 minutes I want to guess for our food, but the young waitress was concerned it was a long wait, so she gave us edamame on the House. Staff was attentive, polite and genuinely caring to serve. Will be coming back here as they continue to woo the neighborhood :) read more

Came here for lunch on a Sunday and got the two item bento for $12.95 with Tonkatsu and Tempura. Super worth for the amount of food they give! It came with miso soup, salad, rice, 4 pieces of California roll, and 2 pieces of gyoza. Their katsu sauce is quite different than the standard--it had a bit of a kick like it had mustard or something--I enjoyed it! The tonkatsu was cooked perfectly and the Tempura didn't have too much batter or oil, so it was great! The Tempura included 2 pieces of shrimp, broccoli, carrot, yam, squash, and zucchini. I gave them 4 stars, because I haven't tried everything on the menu, and their menus were just hilarious. It was just a stack of papers, hole punched at the top, and strung through with some twine. It also said that the lunch bento is served Monday-Friday, but when I asked the server--he said that it is available everyday of the week! I've frequented this establishment many times since the start of Covid but have noticed quality and service going down hill. Usually the food is good but a few times when I order takeout the fish had an off taste - I suppose it depends on the day. Takeout can take around 45 mins during the evenings. Typical Bay Area sushi pricing too. Two stars for my latest dine in visit though. They provide a coupon on the back of the Safeway receipts but is apparently only for takeout according to the waiters. Coupon says "Limit 1 per customer per table". PER TABLE. How are you going to tell me that the coupon is for takeout only??? The coupon says takeout available which means that it's for BOTH. I do not respect the false advertising and will be ordering elsewhere. Seems like a review from Brian below also complains about the coupon usage for takeout so maybe they're being stingy. If you don't want to honor the coupon then maybe you should stop advertising with coupons. I grew up in the area and this place used to be Ariake Sushi. We went there all of the time because my family was friends with the sushi chefs and it was around for a long time! It wasn't the best food at that time haha but it was a great place to eat affordable sushi. With the rebranding and the new menu, the food has definitely gotten way better! A most excellent place. I came with my family on a Monday because I live close by. The design of this restaurant is awesome. It's mirrored walls allows for people to watch the TV even when they're facing away -- with readable subtitles. So cool. The atmosphere was pretty casual and homely. Everything was quite clean and tidy. The servers were welcoming and attentive, something I am most thankful for. Orders are taken promptly. The carts to pick up dishes were rolled around every now and then so your plates don't pile up. Thank you very much to the staff. Prices are a bit similar to other sushi places I've been to, so affordable every once in a while. The food takes a bit of time to make, but is really good. I personally loved the crab lover very much, which was warm and delicious in my mouth. And the crunchy bits were pretty enjoyable too. The plating for the sushi is appetizing too, looks like the pictures on the menu. I'd attach a photo if the yelp app didn't keep crashing. Left with the beginnings of a food coma. I love sushi so it's always fun to try out new sushi restaurants that open up. I came here with a friend and we got 2 rolls: OMG (cooked), Orange Blossom and the sunshine. The orange blossom was our favorite because we were basic. It's just salmon and avocado. The sunshine roll had 3 kinds of fish and had a little nutty taste to it. Probably because of the sesame seeds. As for the OMG, OMG it sucked. lol. Well it was a deep fried roll and I think we both don't care for cooked fish as much but we wanted to mix it up. It was a mistake. Because it was fried, I did feel like it was oily but also they put too much mayo. It was a pasty oily ball of rice. Not the biggest fan but the other two rolls we had were pretty good. The quality I would say it's above average and good enough. I usually prefer nigiri, very basic. Just the fish, rice and a little wasabi for the kick and we good to go. If I were to come back I would just order a bunch of those next time and skip the rolls but the rolls are still good to get if you like it. This place was surprisingly quite good. The prior place was Ariake which was a major disservice to all of sushi kind but this new ownership was just surprising. To be honest my first few seconds were a major let down. This middle aged Asian lady greeted us with a mean and annoyed face. My immediate thought was "oh no. It's one of those places." However our next interaction was with a young millennial Asian man with colored hair and he was kind and warm as can be. That almost redeemed the first interaction. After that it was all uphill which was such a delight. They were so accommodating as we took our time studying the extensive menu and building our meal for 4 (of which are 2 picky and young eaters). All the food was good quality and good standard! Super surprised! I really liked the selection of sushi rolls. Only down side were the high prices for the rolls. We had a lot of staff come and go and visit us in the back corner where they placed us. The grumpy lady whom we met first later kind of sort of warmed up and managed to eeek out a semi-smile later on in our dinner there. Been here twice -- once a few months ago and more recently during the stay-at-home measures. Both times I've been impressed with the sushi rolls I ordered and service. More recently, I called in to order and they have fairly long hours and the person on the phone let me know they are taking online or phone orders. I opted to order over the phone and she let me know it was about 20 min for pick up, no hassles and it was super easy. Their full menu with some pictures are also online, which made ordering fast and easy. When I arrived, I just had to pick up my order and pay, basically all at the door. Really easy and quick. Service was great and friendly, and I left a tip to help out during these tough times. Lion king roll -- perfect and on par with my other favorite sushi roll places. So, currently this is based on their soft opening and fried foods, since I was just trying to get some small stuff from Ariake's and found out they are no longer Ariake's but Sake Bomb, but the small stuff in fact turned out very good. I had the Agedashi tofu and veggie tempura, Mother in Law (who likes Terrible sushi) said the California rolls were "okay" but the lack of a revolving sushi conveyor and a chef behind the counter intrigues me much more than thoughts of the previous management's sushi. Ariake's was strictly cooked bento for me, Sake Bomb could possibly fill the Sunnyvale sushi based hole in my heart left by the loss of Satos and Olleh before it. Breading was delicate and subtle on both the tempura and agedashi, with just the right amount of bonito on the latter, sauces were light and subtly sweet without being cloying or overpowering. Tofu had great mouthfeel, not too soft or firm. Staff was courteous and friendly, POS system looked current to halfway to state of the art, and they really did a good job sprucing up the interior. Service here is very bad if you're not Japanese. After we got seated, No one came to take our order for more than 15 minutes. We had to get up from table to call someone to take our order. Then our food did not come for more than 40 minutes. There were several people who came after us and got their for before us. Again we had to call someone to find out and our server just tells us that the food orders were backed up. If that was the case, why were people who came after us served before us.
