Excellent Chinese Korean food. I got the; Stir fried green beans- Delicious, perfectly stir fried to the point where they were still extremely crispy and crunchy. The garlic was hittin' from all angles and just added a very nice touch to the flavor depth of the dish as a whole. Jajangmein- Delicious black bean sauce noodles. They gave us a large bowl of sauce and honestly, it's good for two portions of noodles plus 2 portions of rice with just the sauce. I wanted to cover everything in it because it was just that good. Food - ordered the jjampong, kan pung gi, and the green beans. Jjampong was a respectable size and had an adequate amount of seafood (squid heavy). Would've preferred a spicier soup, and noted it didn't have that wok hei, similar to other Korean places. Overall a decent bowl, and the best dish we had. Kan pung gi - first time eating this dish but it was a lot sweeter than expected. There was a bit of a crunch, but nowhere as crunchy as other Korean fried chicken places. Meat itself didn't have much flavor either. A disappointment, but part of it was our preference in taste as well. Green beans - really dry and some were undercooked. Not really much flavor in the dish. Biggest disappointment. Service - we never got check ins, unless we flagged someone down - not usually a big deal, but it was hard to flag anyone down when we wanted drinks and our check. They also kept mixing tables up, and tried to give other table's orders to us three times. We also never got our banchan refills, even though they took it away early on in our meal. I tried this place over the weekend as one of my friends wanted to try a new black bean noodle restaurant and I found this on Yelp. It was really disappointing and the service was terrible. The only dish that was decent was the black bean noodle, everything else was not good. The chicken was not crispy, the fried fish lacked flavor, the walnut shrimp was mushy, and the soup lacked flavor. The pork jjajamyeon sauce was so good and they are very generous with it. The noodles come in a separate bowl so you can spoon as much or as little sauce you want onto it. The jangpan jajang was gigantic and came with a lot of squid legs if you like that (which I do). We also ordered the Yu Rin Gi (chicken) which came out crispy and delicious. I would definitely recommend for the noodles alone. The restaurant is decently mid-size/big and can handle large groups but I would definitely call ahead if you have a larger group. The Friday we went they happened to have half the restaurant reserved for a corporate event (which turned out to be 2 large tour groups) and about another 1/3 reserved for a larger group reservation. There were only effectively 12 seats left and luckily we didn't have to wait too long to get seated. The servers were very apologetic and attentive despite the number of people they had to attend to. This place has been one of our go-to authentic Chinese-Korean restaurants for over a decade. They have a big menu of Chinese-Korean dishes, so be sure to come often to try everything. The dishes I usually order are: tangsuyuk (탕수육), jjamppong (짬뽕), and jjajangmyeon (짜장면). All so good, one of the better ones in this area. I came to Tong Soon Garden with my friends after hearing good things about its Jajang Mein and Fried Chicken. I came to a completely empty restaurant and we were seated immediately. The servers welcomed us and the place is very traditional with large wooden tables and open space. We asked for recommendations, which our waiter helped explain each of the dishes. We placed our order and the dishes came out quickly one-by-one. I really liked the Jajang Mein and Kan Pung Gi. The Jajang Mein was so flavorful with the thick black bean sauce and bouncy noodles. The Kan Pung Gi was crispy and the sauce was sweet and tangy. We also got the Eggplant with Garlic Sauce, which was good but very heavy from the sauce. The Jjampong was also good and had a softer soup. The sweet and sour pork was a little off putting by the color, but the taste was actually quite sweet. We had a good time enjoying all the dishes, and our server gave us pear slush drinks and fortune cookies at the end! For all this food, it was decently affordable. For Chinese-Korean food, I think this place does a good jjampong and jjangmien. The noodles have good chew and the flavors of the black bean sauce and seafood broth are carried well by the noodles. We didn't try the tangsuyuk, but I would say that for the 2 out of 3 classic Chinese-Korean dishes we tried, this place is decent. As a group, we also got the eggplant and salt and pepper fish. I think the non-noodle dishes were a bit disappointing. The eggplant sauce was good without being overly salty, but the eggplant was cooked unevenly -- some pieces were well cooked but some were undercooked (which is a bit confusing because the pieces all seemed similar size). The salt and pepper fish lacked some flavor and crispiness to the fish, and the texture was "like fish sticks" as my friend described it. They also give you desserts, which I think is some type of pear blend/drink that was light and refreshing. Service was good! The waiters were attentive and answered our questions. We used to come here frequently, a long running Chinese restaurant tucked in the Korean town, then the owner faded away. I don't know how long the new management has been running this place. The Kangpungi wings are not clear on delivery apps, so I called to have this picked up. Note- there is also House Wings that are a soy garlic based wings that are not available on delivery apps and have to call the restaurant directly for it. I am lowering my rating by 1 star. While we still usually come here whenever we want jjajangmyeon (짜장면) the experience is not what it used to be. The restaurant seems to have gone through at least one ownership change and the wait staff that used to greet us so warmly is no longer there. Today, I went back for the first time, and it seems the ownership has changed. I ordered Mapo tofu, Mongolian beef, and steamed rice. Unfortunately, the rice wasn't great it seemed like it hadn't been rinsed properly. The Mapo tofu was overly sweet, as if they added too much syrup, and the Mongolian beef was very chewy with an overpowering flavor. On a positive note, the server was friendly. It's been a while since I had Korean-Chinese food. Found this little gem located in Santa Clara. Highly recommend their Crispy Oil Chicken!! It was lightly breaded and crispy. I doordashed an order of chicken chowmein, chicken sweet corn soup, and chicken fried rice. The packaging, flavors, portions, and everything else was fabulous! The umami was there, and the wok hei in the chow mein was tremendous! I usually cannot find a good chicken chowmein anywhere, but I'm glad I found a place that does really good chow mein. I'm a regular customer because I really enjoy the food here, which is why this is disappointing to write. On one visit, I witnessed a young female server being yelled at and pressured to handle too many tasks at once by an elderly coworker, in front of customers. When I came back on another day, I saw the same coworker treating a young male server the same way. It was uncomfortable to watch and created a tense atmosphere. This kind of behavior toward staff--especially in front of guests--is not okay. I hope management takes this seriously, because the food is great, but employees deserve respect. read more

Located off of El Camino with parking in the back, a small and unassuming restaurant with a nice wait staff that speaks English, Chinese, and Korean. Portion sizes are generous. My only disappointment was the jjamppong. The broth was tasty and seafood-y, just the way I like it. The noodles were chewy and bouncy, just the way I like it. The seafood had variety, just the way I like it. The problem was that there just wasn't that much noodles or seafood. The noodle soup's ratio was much more soup broth than noodle or seafood, which made me just wish there was more stuff inside... Came here with two friends for a very late lunch (almost 3pm) on a Sunday. Many restaurants nearby closed at 2:30 but this restaurant did not have a break after lunch hours. We parked on the street and there was no wait to get a table. We were provided with tea, kimchi and radish quickly. The restaurant was clean. We were craving some noodle/soup so I ordered a braised beef noodle soup while my friends ordered a Szechuan fish noodle which was an off-menu item. I liked my beef noodle soup. The portion was generous, the soup base was flavorful but not overwhelming. I sampled my friend's fish noodle. The fish pieces were freshly fried. It was great. Too bad I can't deal with spicy food. Perhaps it's the time of the day, there was only one server. The service was a bit slow. Some tables were not cleaned up after the customers have left. Got takeout here to pick up some hot and sour soup to help get over a cold. Went on a Sunday evening and the restaurant had a fair amount of people there. The large portion of soup cost around $15 and got me 3 meals. It was perfectly peppery and even had shrimp in it which was a nice surprise considering I don't typically see it in hot & sour soup.
