I make spring rolls at home, and this one felt extremely basic. It only had vermicelli noodles, shrimp, and romaine lettuce. No cucumber, no carrots, no basil, no scallions, none of the texture or fresh flavors that usually balance a summer roll. It wasn't awful, just...flat. This was also my first time having a summer roll where I had to pick out shrimp shells as I ate it, which definitely took away from the experience. For my main dish, I ordered the Bò Kho, and the broth did not disappoint. It was rich, flavorful, and a really nice switch-up if you want something pho-adjacent but a little different. The meat was extremely tender, though the pieces were cut into long chunks, so you basically have to bite through them if you want to eat it together with the noodles. Overall, this is a cute little lunch spot if you're craving something warm and comforting. If you don't want to drive too far and just need something to take the edge off your pho craving, it's worth a try. My rating is more of a 3.7 than a 3, but for is just simply too high in my opinion. I asked one staffer what the password was, because Caphe is in one of those sections of Old Town where wireless access, like Verizon, is notoriously poor. The guy gave me some garbled answer and walked away. Alrighty, so I asked another staffer and he said he didn't know what the password was and walked away. That leads up to my order of chicken pho. I asked for no cilantro and that same waiter repeated my request for no cilantro. But when the pho was brought to my table, the green in the pho looked suspiciously like cilantro. I asked the waiter about it. He looked at the pho and said it was not cilantro. I took a sip and quickly determined there was cilantro in the pho. When I tried to get my server's attention, as he was standing in back of the counter, he saw me and haughtily turned away. So, I took the pho up to counter and asked that my order be remade.
