The waiters were extremely nice! I had great customer service, however I'm giving this a 2 because the sushi was no good. The cucumber in it tasted like it had been sitting in the fridge for days. And the portions were really small. I got an avocado roll, a spicy salmon roll (which wasn't spicy at all) and a shrimp California roll (had imitation crab meat instead of shrimp). The tempera shrimp roll here is by far the best I've ever had! The grill cooks are awesome! Definitely make the experience fun. The waitresses however are awful, extremely rude and don't seem to understand very well. Tried this place for our anniversary and we were impressed. All of the sushi restaurants in town have been so disappointing we didn't really have high expectations, but we were pleasantly surprised. We went out on a limb with this one and drove from Alamogordo, and this place is awesome!! We had a younger cook and it was only us two at the table, and the guy was great!! THE BEST SUSHI IN TOWN! We recently moved out to Cruces from San Diego and we thought we would never be able to find a decent sushi place here. But I'm so glad we found Sakura! The Phoenix roll is to die for and we're always trying new rolls every time we visit! It's a bit pricey, but it's worth it for good sushi! I really like this place and eat here fairly often. They have a lot of different sushi rolls, many of which are particularly unique. The crab salad roll is one of the best rolls I've ever had, and this is the only place in town that offers it (I've also never seen it anywhere else). My family often orders the hibachi and reports that it's good; the performance is entertaining. The staff here has thick Japanese accents, but with that in mind, I've never had a problem with them misunderstanding me or being unable to explain something. It's not the normal accents one expects in Las Cruces but just be patient and enunciate, and when in doubt, point to things on the menu to help make your point. Went in for Sunday lunch. Tables had crumbs all over them, even though they just opened. Sushi rolls were average. Teriyaki good but WAY overpriced. Waitress was unfriendly and too busy to bring our check because she was busy eating her own lunch. We will stick with Tokyo Sushi. Better value and better food. read more

Staff was incredibly unprofessional after I pointed out that one of their employees did not wash their hands after using the restroom. They basically told me I was lying and that I was rude for addressing this in front of other people who could hear us??!!?? I am sorry, but this is a matter of basic hygiene. If their employee is going around touching water pitchers why shouldn't we be questioning their health guidelines! The way they handled the question led me to believe that they will hide anything instead of focusing on fixing it. read more

The host never even acknowledged us... a female waiter sat us down after standing at the entry for five minutes ( I timed it). The blond male waiter we had was very rude. He came to our table twice during the course of our meal. He appeared to be far more concerns over serving his two friends that were also eating there. We we didn't get out appetizer until after the main course cane out. I never got my soup. Both entrées were "warm" at best. Never going back. read more

This place is great. The service is good. The hibachi cooks are really entertaining and the food was excellent. They also serve alcohol which makes it great for family and friend get togethers. It is on the pricey side but well worth it. I recommend giving it a try. I ordered the chicken and shrimp. read more

While the food is decent the service is kind of spotty I've read good and bad reviews on here. My wife typically orders kids menu items because of the amount of food, she did that here and was denied because it was only for "kids." Ok First impression as we parked was not really sure where the entrance is. As we approached the door a couple walked out and we were met by i assume was the hostess. she shut the door on us as if they were closed or something. The sign said open so we walked in. decor is nice. we sat at the hibachi. the table top is very high and makes it difficult for children to eat. First time to Sakura. Was pretty disappointed. We usually go to a place in El Paso but decided to give this place a try. We originally wanted to have dinner here for NYE so called to make a reservation. Was told not taking anymore reservations because they were full. So went today. Place did not seem very busy but everything seemed rushed. We hadn't even had drinks yet and we're asked if we knew what we wanted to order. Since the other people we were sat with had been waiting. Food was good but not great. The soup was good but a bit spicy for children or people who cannot eat spicy food. portions are smaller than other places we have been. Rice was a bit crunchy. Chef was friendly and did a good job. shortly after chef finished we were given checks and a box. Idk bout other people but I like to wait for everything to be cooked and then begin eating. It was awkward. Won't be coming here again. We come from out of town weekly but will drive out of our way to El Paso for a more pleasant environment. read more

The food was delicious. The hibachi dish was excellent and the sushi was prepared beautifully. The low lighting gave off a peaceful vibe and I was impressed with the decor. The service, however, could of been better. The waitress did not do a very good job of explaining the menu to us considering the fact that hibachi and sushi restaurant menus are difficult to understand (and it was the Grand Opening) Our waitress never came by to refill our drinks or ask us if we wanted take home boxes. We sat for several minutes waiting for our check. We finally walked up to the front and still, no one in site. We were finally rung up but I felt like that could of been explained to us also (is she bringing the check to the table or do we go to the front and point to our table, which is what we ended up doing). Don't get me wrong.... The food was great!!! I usually brush off bad service because I don't want to be a bother. FINALLY a great sushi bar in Las Cruces! My husband and I are big sushi fans and have enjoyed sushi all over the world. This is a great spot for some wonderful sushi - fresh fish, great selection and wonderfully prepared. If you don't like sushi, you have plenty of options including the tapanyaki tables. They don't have their liquor license yet, but we did take-out to have our anniversary dinner at home (with sake) and it was just as good as when we ate at the restaurant. read more

Probably the best sushi in town (which I still isn't impressive this is LC), however WORST service in town. Just two of us arrived at 9:15 for some sushi rolls as they closed at 10:00. We were greeted by the host "you have 30 minutes to eat or you can take it to go", not hello or welcome or anything. We are moving into a house and have no where to eat at home around the many boxes, so we asked to sit and enjoy the meal there as they were open late - apparently the wrong answer. I work in a restaurant and hate when people come in 10 minutes before closing, but come on this was 45! Plenty of time to enjoy a roll and get out close to 10. The host sat us at a dirty booth with used forks on the chairs and who knows what on the table. Our waitress was friendly and explained she was new. We ordered right when we sat down because we knew they were trying to close up, but still didn't get our food or even drinks until 9:40. Right after dropping them off they cut the music and lights on us with 20 minutes to closing!!!!!! We had to chug what we could of our beers and take the sushi to go because it was so uncomfortable. Ended up getting home before 10:00, the time they were "supposed to close". Good sushi but I am not going to go and pay $50 to be treated like this. read more

Went for lunch while out shopping on Valentine's Day. Seated promptly as only 3 other tables occupied.Were given menus and asked for our drink order. When drinks arrived, and we had already started on them, the waitress came to take our order. We wanted the bento box lunches, which we have been told were quite tasty. We were now informed that lunch, and lunch prices, were not being served (at 1:30 p.m) because it was Valentine's day. We paid for our drinks and left, without anyone apologizing, or even attempting an explanation. We thought that was a very poor way to do business. There were ample opportunities for either the hostess or the waitress to inform us of their "specia" menu pricing, before we ordered our drinks. We'll think twice before returning. read more

Read this!! OK now. I'm originally from NM and graduated NMSU Las Cruses in '81. We've lived in Japan 5 different times for a total of about 13 years. I know the culture, speak the language, and last but definitely not least I do know Japanese food and sushi. We drove by Sakura for a couple of months until it finally opened. We love it. I always order take out Yaki Steak Udon for my wife. Living in Japan spoiled me with sushi prices, which can be like going out and getting a cheeseburger. So I rarely order sushi in the US, unless it comes with a buffet, of which Las Cruses and El Paso have a good variety of Asian buffets. Other than the Chinese employees at Sakura, they can't seem to keep local American employees all of which have been nice except for one. Here it comes. Last Thursday night, 19 Jan '17, I call in my order to Sakura while waiting in the drive-up at Roberto's in Las Cruses, a well established outstanding Mexican food place, for my menudo and caldo. The American employee at Sakura on the phone had to ask where Yaki Udon Steak was on the menu..-she asked -me where it was on the menu. Having the menu memorized I told her it is under the Appetizers. She then asked where, so I spelled it for her. Then she said oh, it comes with steak, how would you like your steak cooked? I started laughing on my cell, saying you must be new there. (Yaki Udon Steak is small strips of steak in thick udon noodles.) She said I am and I don't want to get your order wrong. I should have taken that que and opted to go to Sakura, go inside and place the order. I must have explained it to her several times, the spelling, etc. I also order shrimp and vegetables tempura again walking her through where it is located on the menu. Then whalla I go pick it up with the employee in question treating me like I was in a truckstop. I take it back to White Sands Missile Range where we live and work 30 miles away, to my wife, and low and behold, it was Yaki Steak SOBA. I should have checked it before I left Sakura, since American kids are used to not having any responsibility with us other folks picking up after them and teaching them their jobs at the same time. Anyway, Soba is thin buckwheat noodles, a world apart from thick wheat flour udon noodles. Anyway Sakura we're coming back tonight to order Yaki Udon Steak. I hope it is understood that one employee can really hurt your wonderful restaurant. I'll try calling in the order, but if that happens again, I'll simply come to your place, come inside and place the order then come back 15-20 minutes later. And I won't place the order with that employee if she's still there. We love your food and we love yall too. Just be careful who you let work in your restaurant, ok? ;-) Go Sakura! Sub-par service, decent hibachi food, good hibachi entertainment, horrendous management. This restaurant was so terribly understaffed it is tough to blame the horrible service and extremely long wait times on the staff. 45 minutes to get a beer, another 20 minutes before we finally asked the waitress to take our order, 20 more minutes to get appetizers, and after being there 1:35, the hibachi finally starts. Had to beg for the check. From start to finish was 2 hours 17 minutes. read more
