Had a supreme omakase (chef's choice) dish. Didn't know what to expect but very pleasantly surprised and will definitely be back. Very reasonable price for creative dishes and top quality ingredients. I've had omakase at most of the best sushi restaurants in NYC and the quality/selection for $35 is impressive. Eat in if you want to try omakase, temperature is important. Great find! Update: I have been back many times since the initial review. Commonly order omakase and it's been great every time. The fish is always fresh and the sushi chefs always makes a great presentation! I recommend trying the omakase where they use the freshest fish of the day. The sake options are phenomenal and different. The green tea is a must for a cold day. read more

After so many years of traveling to white plains/ or to NYC just for sushi... and hoping for good sushi in the Pelham/New Rochelle area I finally found Sakura! Sushi is very good and fresh! They have plenty of rolls to try! I recommend to try their cold appetizer: tuna pizza and their spicy Kano salad - Both are my favorite must haves! I am so relieved to have a new restaurant in Pelham that's not Italian and doesn't appear to be going anywhere anytime soon. I've lived here for two and a half years and am still surprised at the amount of turnover with restaurants in town. Luckily, Sakura seems to be getting rave reviews from every person who has eaten there. Though I can't currently speak to the quality of sushi (pregnancy, etc.), I can say that the food I ate was delicious: I love that they thinly pounded the chicken karage, the miso tasted lighter than standard, and though there are no hibachi tables, I got a heaping portion of hibachi fried rice, shrimp and vegetables with my lunch order. Our waitress came by frequently to check on us and our son and the prices were very decent. Now I just have to wait for them to start delivery! read more

Just another day for me at Sakura. I really enjoy the people and the food. Whether I dine-in, pick up or have food delivered, it's always spot on. Nice decor, clean, friendly service. The quality of the sushi is pretty solid and on par with many of the other Japanese restaurants in Westchester. It's a great addition to the restaurant scene in Pelham. The only negative is that we ordered the katsu once and it was very dry. read more

While the standard rolls are a little small the food is excellent and the boxes are large and delicious as well as the specialty rolls. I've been there several times now and the service is excellent. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive. I am going out of my way to right this for others indicated bad service. If that was the case it certainly has been fixed. Great job! read more

Great sushi with a kind and attentive staff. I've found that the sushi it better if I go on a Friday or Saturday night because they have the best people there making it. I've ordered lunch here a few times and am always disappointed because the rolls are very sloppy-all pieces different sizes and falling apart. Awesome Saturday night dinner at Sakura. The wait staff was so friendly when we came and instantly offered my two friends and I a "welcome" salmon sushi piece each. I ordered the house Sakura roll for an entree and appetizer was a seared tuna plate. Both were fantastic, especially with the well priced saki. Interior is lovely and the restaurant was bustling. While I'm really excited to have a new restaurant in Pelham, the sushi didn't quite live up to my expectations. The fish quality seemed fine, the fresh wasabi was excellent, but the eel roll didn't have much eel, and it tasted strangely sweet. The spicy tuna also had squishier texture than I expected. Update: We went back in 2016. The sushi is fine, but not great. I understand that it's a sushi restaurant, but the place smells more 'fishy' than other sushi restaurants I've visited. May try again in a year or if we hear the place makes any changes. read more

I've been at Sakura regularly since it finally opened a couple months ago. As I'm always getting sushi, I can't say anything about their other dishes, but the sushi and miso soup are amazing. Also, you should definitely check out the lunch special (two sushi rolls + soup or salad for $10.95, three rolls for $13.95) and they offer all their dishes with brown rice aswell. The only reason why they don't get 5 stars is that the delivery usualy takes quite long and the delivery guys sometimes end up at another address, but the food definitely deservese 5 stars! read more

Well, well, a new sushi joint in Westchester. The vibe, with its entry water-works and heavily draped windows is more imitation chinese restaurant than austere Japanese sushi haven. Visited on Friday night and it was crowded. Only two waitresses for entire establishment and boy were they over-matched by the crowd. They tried hard and were pleasant enough, but could have used another hand on deck. Orders were delayed or mixed-up or wrong. The gyoza was nicely crisped on the outside - good. Miso scallops on eggplant was exceptional! A nice contrast of flavors and textures. Bento box - copious amounts of tempura, teriyaki chicken, sushi and rice. More than enough for a meal in itself. A decent start, but they really need to match the the wait-staff to the size of the clientele - not easy, but crucial for creating a good dining experience. 2-1/2 stars, but I'll give them the friendly upgrade. I am surprised about all the negative reviews. The sushi was very fresh, wild alaskan salmon. I don't know where other people get their sushi, but relative to places around here, this is the best quality by a pretty far margin. Our entrees were all delicious and served promptly after the appetizers: steak teriyaki, fresh sushi, and curried beef. Asahi and Sapporo beer, and hot sake. Very friendly and efficient service. A wonderful find on Christmas Day when few other places were open in Pelham. They will soon have take-out delivery. They were in the midst of advertising for a delivery person. read more
