We always order here every party we have and it's usually ready by the time we touck our order. Last saturday we pick up our 11 order and it wasn't ready because they said they forgot about it so we waited about 20 mins. And today i came to pick up my sister's order that was supposed to be at 1 pm and i came and the order wasn't ready again. And they said they forgot to call the kitchen again. After going to the awful Mays sushi aycu it took me a while to want to eat buffet style again. But today I battled rush hour traffic to treat myself and get here at around 5. Was it worth it? Hell YES! If you are a crab lover you will love the baked crab, snow crab and if you also like scallops you will love the cheese scallop bake. I'm sure there are other tasty things and the popcorn shrimp with mayo was delicious but this was absolutely fantastic and cheap. It is rare that food still tastes good after a buffet but that's what ended up happening. And a yup definitely don't eat too much sushi. Definitely was not fresh. The place was filthy dirty. The employees don't even bother to dress as if they are going to work. Its very unprofessional to look like you just got out of bed. Anyways that's not all. Kids everywhere with no adult supervision and the food had no taste as how it useto be. Definitely not going back ever again! So sad for it being one of my favorite places to go to. UPDATE: my daughter was the only one that ate clams, shrimp, Oysters and octopus and now she has food poisoning...stomach cramps, diarrhea, fever, chills, nausea and her stomach was numb to the touch so she had a shell fish poisoning for sure with neurotoxins that affect nervous system so it was bad seafood or not prepared in a sanitary way. She did not sleep well and we treated her with ginger ale to settle her nausea and ibuprofen for fever. She was recovered by morning, thank goodness for good immune systems. If I could give this place a 0 star review, I would. The Chinese young man Kris that cleared our used buffet plates was the only thing pleasant about this place, although he did not keep my husbands water filled, he was nice and polite. We drove 30 minutes to this location because our daughter wanted octopus...what can I say, in the face of the COVID19 Pandemic, we like to eat Seafood at buffets...Anyway, we saw a poster "Top 100 Chinese Buffet Restaurants in the U.S."...we were hopeful...then upon entering there were various award certificates on the walls...Hind sight is 20/20 and I guess if you have to brag, you may be trying to hide something. Anywho, we took the plunge and got a table from the Hispanic mid twenties girl that never smiled once while seating us. Now you have to understand, I am from Alabama and I NEVER meet a stranger and the fact that I smile at everyone and always get a smile back, well this was a very unusual thing for me to experience to say the least. But we tried so hard to find the good in this place so our daughter didn't feel bad for picking it. The decor is definitely outdated and there were some unidentifiable foods on the buffet. They also used one community scoop for the icecream and then left it in a bucket of water that nobody knows how often it was changed out. While we were eating, we noticed that the carpet had not been vaccuumed in some time, there was food all over and dirty utensils. The bathrooms were disgusting and we honestly were just ready to leave...then we wiped down with Clorox wipes after getting back to our car. I will update if we get food poisoning but for now, we survived. I would NOT ever recommend this restaurant to anyone for any reason. Horrible!!! read more

ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK THE BILL!!!! Had a rude Asian waiter Kevin, whom brought the check before we had even finished eating without me asking for it yet. Biggest issue was the check, it only had the total due for the lunch dine in as $56.72 and two items x4 but would not give a breakdown of the charges for or taxes due to make it come up to that price. When I asked Kevin who was also cashiering if he could explain the charges because it didn't specify on the bill, he began showing me different prices from what is being advertised on each table. When I brought it up, he apologized and said I still had to pay for the price he was giving me despite on what was advertised because they just went under new ownership and that's what the boss wants them to charge. I told him I should be charge for what is being advertised on the menu prices or flyer because it's not right to randomly try to up charge me a different price not even listed. I don't mind paying for what I was being charged but at least give me a breakdown of the charges and update your prices. After saying this to the cashier, the small remark became larger issue when his colleague for some reason got defensive and the rest of the waiters began to immediately take off all the signs from the tables they began to deny, they called the manager Vivian which she was only communicating with and refused to let me speak to her when I asked her to let me talk to her, that's when she had put her on speaker and began threatening to call law enforcement on me. To me that was fine her calling the cops because she was trying to intimidate and threaten me for simply letting them know its not right what they(management and owners) were doing. On top of that even after I had paid my bill they wouldn't bother giving me a receipt because that's how the new owner wants them to run the place according to another employee(which is bs because they have to give a receipt for the amount paid). I kept waiting and waiting for the police that the rude defensive cashier who made the issue bigger kept going on about but it wouldn't show up. I felt bad for the other employees because I can just imagine what they must put up with having such a terrible management team and owners. Save your receipt and check your bank statement! There's rumors of this restaurant overcharging customers. I'm an accountant and I always triple check. I checked my receipt before I signed it and it was correct. I tipped the server 20% (in cash). What else do they want? When I checked my bank statement, I was charged $5 more. They added $5 without my consent. I went online and disputed the charge with my bank. I spoke with the Sakura manager and disclosed that I was an accountant. She was offering me gift cards. Is that a bribe? My advise is that if you like their food and can't live without, just keep your receipt. Or better yet, pay cash. My experience: The food is not very good. read more

Prices were so good I was shocked and variety of items on the buffet table was off the chain, mountain high salt and pepper shrimp, garlic shrimp with veggies, baked mussels, scallops, steamed oysters, calamari rings, deep fried prawns, BBQ chicken on skewers just to name a few of the hot items, they also have Mongolian BBQ and sushi as well as the biggest selections of dessert I have ever seen at a buffet, they have both fresh and canned fruits, sesame balls, donuts, soft serve ice cream, 6 different flavors on ice cream tubs and twin ice popsicles available. My 5 yrs old only cost $5.60, 8yrs old cost less than 8. Adults were $12.49. I told my dad about the place, he was so impressed, he drove down to eat with us over there and he super enjoyed the large selections and the super good price. I have been going here for the last 5 years but September 30th ended it. The bus boys and girls do a good job, their of Chinese decent. The young ladies who show you to your table are Hispanic, no personality, some patrons let there children crawl on the floor with no supervision, 4-5 year olds reaching into the desserts and ice cream tubs unsupervised, 3-4 year olds jumping on the cushions in the booths, playing, pulling napkins out of the dispenser and playing with the Utinsils and the real kicker, the 3-4 year olds were LICKING the salt and pepper slackers while their mother(s) sat and ate at another table. Went to Sakura during lunch 9.99 per person. The food was good specially where you can create your own noodles towards the back of the buffet area. The shrimp were oily and seemed like they were in the buffet area for awhile. If you go for lunch try leaving before 4pm because they will upgrade prices for dinner and they will charge you for dinner prices. Wasn't so packed during the weekday. read more

I had always enjoyed this buffet. But I must say buyer beware. I made sure to get there before 4 o'clock so that I received the discount. When I got my bill it was the full price. When I inquired with the manager she stated that there is a sign that says if you eat certain food you get charged the dinner price. I had never seen this sign. I only saw the sign out front that says dine before 4 o'clock and get the discounted price. I guess I should not have had the two oysters but quien sabe. The food was good but the service was terrible, the server who checked us out Yong was super rude and unprofessional this wasn't the first time they do this either. Everytime you checkout they ask you for a tip. My mom said no to him and this got him angry and he literally threw her card at her. A tip is a voluntary gesture not something mandatory I think that is really unprofessional and something should be done about it. read more

Came here for their Mongolian BBQ so I can finally add another South Bay (sort of) restaurant to my Mongo list. They make you load everything onto a dinner plate, including sauces, so my arm was pretty much dripping with teriyaki soy sauce since there was no way from keeping it from running off. The mongolian bbq was not good, mainly in part to them using really awful grades of meat. Even though I put a crapload of sauce on, it didn't help with the dryness and chewiness of the meat. The rest of the buffet is standard fare, with the taste and quality similar to any other Chinese buffet. Only real highlight was the honey chicken - that stuff made my tummy churn afterwards, but it was surprisingly delightful to eat. There is NO freaking WAY this restaurant landed on a Top 100 Chinese Restaurants list, unless there is tiny font afterwards that reads "to throw up in." I'm pretty sure those lists are just comprised of restaurants that pay to be on the list. Reminds me of how sad I was when I found out anyone with $25 can be on the "Who's Who" list of high school students.....to think I actually put that on a resume once! Ha! read more

This place is a hole. Food is mediocre and there are way too many little kids running around the food area. Granted, I did go on a weekend, but the choice of establishment and day were not my choice. Management needs to limit the little kids walking around randomly. Also, their bussing area is open so you can see them flinging dirty plates and utensils into buckets. Speaking of flinging, we had a booth on the other side of the "wall" from the bussing area. The separator was a bamboo blind so the bottom could flap open. Whomever was on the other side threw a container with red liquid against the bottom of the bamboo blind so some of the liquid escaped and splashed onto my mom and I. It got on my hair, skin, and into my bag. I lost my appetite but my mom was a little more forgiving. The waiters knew it happened but didn't offer to comp anything, we had to ask. Even then they only comped one meal. At that point I just wanted to get out of there. Unless you really want crab legs, don't eat here, ever. I left pissed and irritated. Best asian buffet I've ever dined at. The price for lunch ($8.99) isn't bad at all, and they had lots of variety. Plenty of seafood (shrimp, mussels, oysters), delicious chicken wings, 3 kinds of soup, and mini steamed buns! They even have a mongolian stir-fry station with a cook. They also have a few random American food items, like fries, pizza, fried chicken, and garlic bread. There's only like 4 different kinds of sushi rolls, but there were 2 kinds that actually had fish inside. One had hamachi and the other had cooked salmon. It tasted like salmon skin. I was so happy to see a tub of boiled eggs sliced in half, kimchi, and spicy octopus. I love cold dishes like these. The placement was kind of random though; they were next to some dessert items. Overall, very satisfying buffet experience. Lots of the seafood buffets back in the bay are so overpriced with food that just isn't up to par for the price. However, keep in mind that they charge for water. We made that mistake and thought water was complimentary, so our total ended up being higher than we expected it to be. read more

Service is hit and miss, sometimes you get a good waiter/waitress and is attentive and checks up on you all the time, others (more often) you get a Houdini! Experts at disappearing! When you walk in you can see the fountain with fish, they have Chinese food, American (hot dogs, pizza, etc) Japanese (badly made sushi) Mongolian food (all the way to the back) that is pretty decent. You are charged extra for the drink, a new trick adopted by buffets to charge you extra. One time I got there 20 minutes before the dinner service, still in time for lunch, the server didn't come to my table until 20 min later so she could have on the receipt that they print the time for dinner. At the time I asked for my bill, it came with the dinner price instead of the lunch price!! When I confronted them about it, they asked me if I eat any dinner items! The fish is boiled, rendering it void of flavor, the salmon gets tough and dry, a lot of the food is blend, the raw fish (sashimi) is a bit suspicious, not sure how fresh it might be, the sushi with raw fish is made with extremely small pieces of fish, not like when you go to a Japanese restaurant. For the money, the buffet next to Kmart or the one in South Main are better, in flavor hometown buffet in northridge mall is better. Tables are often dirty, sticky... If you want to eat good Chinese food is better to drive a bit further and go to the Chinese restaurant in front of the rodeo. They have big portions for a good price and good service!! Lately, the quantity and quality of food has gone up and down. Unfortunately, it is still the best buffet in the 50 miles radius. Unless you wish to drive up to the bay area and pay a bit more, you are stuck with Sakura. Use the 10% coupon from mobile "check in" on yelp and you'll save a couple of bucks. Avoid Sunday. For some reason, this place turns into Tijuana on Sundays; not to mention you'll pay like a dollar more. I find it hilarious that so many people complain about it being dirty. They must live a sheltered life. Visit your local taco stand and you'll know what "dirty" is. With so much traffic and bathrooms with a cleaning schedule, I doubt this place can get really bad. read more

I'm not completely sold on my two star rating as of yet. We came in one evening after it was decided that we were too lazy to cook anything at home. I've seen this location a few times when going to the Grocery Outlet a few doors down and I am a sucker for cheap questionable food, as it's easy on the pockets and usually full of greasy and questionable deliciousness. .... so we decided to give it a shot. and it was a miss. The front door said that it closed at 10 so we figured we had plenty of time at 8:00 p.m. I came in here with low expectations of hardly touched food but was surprised to find anything in the trays... so I had some veggie chow-mein, two mayonnaise shrimplets, almost a spoonful of their jalapeño (pepper) chicken, a couple of "Korean" gyoza that were pretty awful, and some broccoli from what was supposed to be "beef/chicken" and broccoli. I had enough to almost fill the plate... I figured the cooks would be on top of this and put more food out.. NOPE upon circling the area in hopes that someone brought out some food, I noticed what I assume would be the managers?, cooks and servers with fully loaded plates, taking their sweet time devouring the food that was supposed to collect in my fat cells. Maybe 8 p.m. means 9:45 in chinese/vietnamese/filipino. I didn't see one Japanese person in here.... any who. the little that I had was meh but not too bad. I'm thinking that I need to be fair and give this place another go around during the day and see what the food is all about. oh and another thing.. they have this self serve ice cream station with buckets of ice cream that ANYONE can get to...I was going to get some frozen yogurt but the machine was being cleaned out.... So i turned to the ice cream box and there were some kids with some dirty/grimy looking hands putting their little paws all up in that ice box... I decided to avoid any stomach bugs and left that area... But apparently the crab legs were really good. Some of it is good, some is ok, and some I wouldnt touch with a 50 foot pole. Got pulled along here while visiting Salinas. Honestly I've heard some mixed reviews about the place from some friends,so originally didn't have complaints coming here. I figured when we came in on a week night, it should be decent enough, there was lots of people there for dinner. First off, the forks given to our table were oddly bent, as if someone had used the ends to pry open soda tabs on more than one occasion. Second, the utensils looked grimey like it wasn't washed very well. And our table was still a little sticky, honestly the whole place gave an unsanitary feel. Third, the staff seemed ok, not as attentive with drink refills but i get they were busy. Fourth, and major deal breaker - food lacked taste/flavor, and appeal. Only reason I even got a plate of food (fortunately small servings of like 4 dishes) was because I was with family, and they wouldn't not let me eat. I ate a chicken wing, took a bite out of some chow mien and some other pork dish before finally calling it quits. I get it, there's not a lot of options in Salinas, but I'd rather go anywhere but here. read more

Pretty good, pretty much the same under the new ownership. I like paying before eating. While there's a tip jar up front and in various places, no tips were requested. Signs saying people would be charged extra for wasted food didn't bother me, not one to waste food anyway. Liked the soda dispenser, get all the refills free. Found the ice cream in a different place, they had my favorite, the mint chocolate chip. We come here a couple of times a year. Love eating here... Best buffet I ever been to... Hostest are very nice, friendly, always with a smile... Food is delicious... I dont mind at all waiting to go in or for food its worth it... Only thing I hate is when kids are running all over place coming to your table and trying to get your food. ( keep your kids in check parents). It's a great deal for lunch, and an acceptable dinner for the higher Chinese Buffet dinner rates. What was amazing is the quality of food served during lunch. Candidly, I wasn't expecting that much for either $7.99 (lunch) or an Asian Buffet in Salinas, CA. Well, I was wrong. It was far better than I thought, but don't try and compare it to Todai, Todai-like places, Super Buffet (San Jose), etc. This is Salinas, and it was very good. The dishes were fresh, exceptional and plentiful. The dim sum was so-so - but between the hot food, mid-range Sushi, Mongolian BBQ, desserts, salads, fruit, hand-scoop ice cream, soft ice cream, and the mexican popsicles, it was an incredible deal. If in the area, I would consider it again for the price. Easy to find, just about a block down from Northridge Mall. Photos are acurate. read more

But there's something about being up all night throwing up that changes your opinion on things . . . beware of the salmon sashimi is basically all I have to say. My friend who came with me did not eat any sushi and he got away unscathed. I called the manager and he was apologetic so that's something. I feel terrible writing a bad review about this place because it was so great except for the two days of deathly illness thing. Wonderful food; or as they say in Spanish, "Buena Comida"!!! Sakura's serves the highest quality Chinese buffet, Mandarin style, that I have ever had. When it's chock full of Hispanics, just fill up a to-go carton and pay $5/lb. I piled on the orange chicken and broccoli beef and got out the door for $10. The fish looks fantastic, too, especially the shrimp dishes. Screw being a beverage sucker and take your to-go to McDonald's for a $1 all-you-can-drink soda, or they'll give you a cup to drink all the cold, delicious filtered water all you want from the self-serve soda fountain. read more

I was visiting family and friends in the Salinas when my grandpa mentioned about this place. We were greeted well by the front people and they accomodate us to the spot we want to be seated. The variety of food was great with the price they are charging for each customer. If you are a seafood lover this buffet spot is right for you!
