Today I went with my sister for the first time for lunch. They immediately took our temperature as soon as we opened the door due to COVID-19. Food was pretty good. I got a bento B. Tempura was really good and not so oily like most places. Fried oysters was bomb. But my absolute favorite was their fried tofu. If you haven't tried it, you must! Just heard about this place this morning and had to try it. Pretty nice atmosphere. The wait to get in, the wait to order & the wait to get our food were ALL long! Understandable considering it's a new place! My wife had the Tempura Udon which wasn't that great, but then again, we were wanting the taste that we had in Japan! This is my favorite sushi place in town! I love specialty rolls because of all the packed flavor in one roll. This time we ordered the volcano roll (tuna, crab, cucumber, eel sauce, mayo, hot sauce, green onion) and their special of the day, a baked roll (I forgot what was in it but they bake the roll with salmon on top and it was delicious). Had lunch and food was good. Service was horrible. The waiter came and asked us do you know what you want, no hello, no do you need time to decide. He took our order, delivered our food, never came back to ask if we needed anything. He gave us our check while I was still eating. I don't eat fast, but there is notices posted at each table you have 60 min at your table. What kind of restaurant does that? We took our time anyway. I Eaten here for many years. Today they ripped me off. The receipt today included the tip. It usually says amount then you add the tip. On top of that I told them we left the tip on the table. They charged us triple tip. I called the restaurant to see if they could reverse the charge. But she said no I have to drive back to pick up the money. One of our favorite sushi spots in Hilo! We love ordering the boats when we have a bigger group (or not). Service is a little slow and sometimes makes you feel a little forgotten but that's most places post-pandemic. We also like to order their oyster shooters which has a quail egg placed on top.. those are delish! I recommend making a reservation as it can get pretty busy. read more

My family and I went to Sakura to celebrate my recent birthday. We had a 6:30 reservation but didn't get seated until almost 7:00. Our waiter apologized for the long wait and presented us with a complimentary appetizer. Despite the noisy dinner crowd (most likely attributed to alcohol consumption), our meal selections were presentable and delicious. Nabeyaki udon is typically served in a stone bowl or pot with plenty of veggies... The nabeyaki udon here was skimpy in veggies and very unauthentic. I didn't want to assume it was from a package but it definitely felt like it was... Was also disappointed with the shrimp tempura - they give you two pieces, but in reality it must've been one shrimp cut into two skinny pieces. Easily 70% breading.
