If you want some inexpensive sushi then this is definitely a place to go. It's very casual and it's not like other sushi places where you wait for a waiter etc. You walk in and take a menu to figure out what you want and just order it. It's kind of like Chinese take out but you can sit in their little area they have. What i'm trying to say is that it's not fancy, but the prices of these sushi are very affordable and good! My boyfriend and I ordered shrimp tempura, and some other sushi that I am sorry but I forgot the names. However, the shrimp tempura was only around 4 bucks!!! Very cheap! I will be honest though that the rolls were a little bit smaller than other restaurants. I guess for the price you are paying I didn't really mind it. They have a table set up where you get your own silverware if you want to sit down and eat there. The guy that took our order came out with our food within 15 minutes. It was quick service and definitely really good. I usually have a very weak stomach so I was kind of nervous about this place, but nope I didn't even get sick from it! If I do crave for sushi and I am around this area I would definitely come back because it's so much cheaper than the other sushi places that I've been to! This place has the ambience of a fast food restaurant, but the food was very good and reasonably priced. With a family of five, one of whom is a very picky eater, it's always tough to find a moderately priced meal that my husband and I will also enjoy. With an extensive menu that included some familiar items (ex., teriyaki chicken) and many options for those who like sushi and sashimi, we all found something to enjoy. We'll certainly put this restaurant on our last to visit next time we're in Williston, VT. read more

This is my favorite sushi place! The sushi is always fresh and delicious, ready so quickly, and affordably priced. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is fairly small but cute and comfortable and there's almost always a table available. Great for take out or dining in. My friends from Boston love it too! read more

Good food, utterly disinterested staff, a bit overpriced. The downtown Burlington Sakura-Bana on Church Street is no more. We mourn its loss. Sadly, the sushi bar and its expert staff from downtown were not moved to this related strip mall location in suburban Williston. What's in a restaurant? Ambiance (outside and in), staff, and food, add up to an overall experience. This place is parked in a strip mall. Once through the door, one could be in a low-end pizzeria or doughnut shop. The fixtures look to be a mish-mosh of auction leftovers. Cold fluorescent tubes provide institutional lighting. But we love hidden gems, and ignored the low-rent ambiance. There's no sushi bar, no freshly-cut fish on view. All the action takes place in a hidden kitchen. I stuck my head through the doorway, and quickly remembered why restaurant kitchens are best not seen. Yet we remained hopeful. Sitting at a window table, we soon realised that this is an order-at-the-cash-register operation. At the counter, the sole front-room employee was utterly disinterested. No hello. Eye contact was bored and brief. She took our order in silence. But ever optimistic, we added 15 percent to the charge slip before signing. Our food arrived (delivered to the table!). It was delicious, but not memorable. The shrimp dumplings were overly sweet. The sushi and maki rolls were fresh. The shrimp tempura was flavourful. But the small bowl of white rice (75 cents extra) was only half full. Had Ms. Utterly Disinterested perhaps been hungry, and eaten the other half? When the second batch of our order arrived, we asked after our green tea, and were told that it's a do-it-yourself job at the counter. We found the hot water, but no tea bags. Ms. Utterly Disinterested was hunched in a chair, focused elsewhere. I gently prodded her to reveal where the bags were hidden (at the far end, by the register). How does she keep her job? (Hint to owner: we were there at 12:49pm on Saturday the 28th of January.) One has to get up and search at the counter for chopsticks, plastic spoons and forks. But the really low-end aspect of this do-it-yourself restaurant is their demand that customers clean the tables. You'll make multiple trips, carrying your dirty plates to a grimy bussing station. Your final memory of lunch or dinner will be a black bin of dirty dishes and stained paper napkins. We felt like idiots for having added 15 percent to the slip. The key ingredients in any restaurant are friendly staff and good food. This place has good food, though a bit overpriced for such a run-down setting. But the staff? Why, oh why, has the owner not focused on constructing a friendly, helpful customer experience? We live locally, and would return often, IF we enjoyed the experience. read more

Probably the ONLY Japanese owned sushi restaurant in the state of Vermont. A great variety of sushi and comfort Japanese food that is very authentic. However, I can tell some of the dishes are frozen / microwaveable e.g. shumai The bento combos are probably the best deals here. They usually change up the entree in the bentos every few days. I've only gotten California rolls here and can't really speak about the quality of sushi here. I only have two complaints about this place -The portion sizes are insanely small. I understand this is a Japanese restaurant but the portion sizes are perhaps only big enough to feed a 3 year old. They might as well call themselves a Japanese tapas place. -This is a family owned business and the staff is usually attentive. They occasionally have a part-time worker here who is extremely rude. Often brings in her boyfriend and starts talking while customers are still around. Unacceptable. read more

Being from California, I'm used to ridiculous amounts of opportunities to eat all sorts of Asian food, so Vermont is quite a bit more restrictive in options. This place is very DIY and crowded. The food was tasty BUT was disappointingly small in portion size. I ordered the weekly bento box dinner, which happened to feature sukiyaki beef. I couldn't fault the cooking or the seasoning, but it was MUCH more onions than beef. Not cool! It's the goal of my boyfriend and I to try all of the ethnic restaurants in our new hometown. We're not impressed and aren't likely to return. Oh well. BTW, the new name of the eatery is "Sushido". read more

This is a very casual dining experience. There are no goldfish swimming in the floor or hibachi tables. The food is always very good and fresh. I have been eating here for over 8 years and have always had good food. It is fair to say the portions are small -- as in you will finish your dinner with out over eating. I would ad that the prices are also small, so you can order more if you are still hungry. You order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. Im a fan :) read more

Really awesome authentic sushi. Their miso soup was delicious and we also got a beef rice bowl that was really good. Sushido can be excellent, memorable and really hit the spot. If you seek ambiance, obsequious service, and fine tables, look elsewhere. I have been a long-time fan (since it began). I love going here -- it's my "comfort" food spot, which, for me, means simple miso soup and tempura or a noodle dish, or Tofu Don (almost a meal and a half). I haven't had their sushi lately, but found it excellent the last time I ordered it. I've rated it only 4 stars because, during the past year, the quality has been a little unpredictable. The best nigiri and maki zushi in the Burlington area. Only, in that regard I give 5 stars. If compared with other big cities such as San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, Austin, TX, Denver CO, I have to give 3 and half starts. I am just rating the quality of Sushi not about service nor atmosphere. It is a nice and clean self service place with limited selections (again compared w/ other area). The price is very reasonable. First time here. In a once thriving old shopping center certainly not much to look at both inside and out. It is all pretty much self service with everything you need at the front counter whether you are dining in or eating out. Upon entering you pass a small grocery selection of various Japanese foods for sale. A young man was sitting on a chair behind the counter and had perhaps the lowest energy level I have ever encountered in the restaurant business. He was looking at his phone. He was also sick and coughing and sniffling which almost made me and my friend want to leave but we persevered and ordered, grabbed our water and utensils, napkins, plates etc and found a table. The place was busy with lots of folks getting take out and eating in. After a normal wait I saw the counter person carrying out two dishes. He stopped at another table and set one plate down and then brought the other to our table but it was not my order. He looked very confused and carried it back to the kitchen. I saw the two women looking at the dish he placed on their table as they knew it was not theirs. He finally came back to their table and traded out the plate he tried to give me for the one he gave them and then proceeded to bring my plate of Sushi over. At first I was like no way will I take that one that he had set down on another table but I had watched knew they hadn't touched it so throwing caution to the wind I said OK. My three inside out rolls were well made and delicious. My friend ordered a few appetizers as well as the Bento Box of the day which was served on a plate instead of a box. He liked his order as well. I would come back but it was not your normal experience for sure. read more

Not pleased. I was in the area on business and love Japanese food so I thought I would try. I tried to call in my order ahead for pickup but could not get thru. So I figured I would just go there and place the order to go. I ordered Yakisoba and spicy tuna roll. I waited about 40 minutes for my order and the boy working the counter only apologized slightly after 30 minutes. When I got the order and got back to my hotel I had something other than what I ordered. I had a couple of tempura vegetables and a tub of udon noodles. After such a long wait and wrong order I did not want to go back. I called and let them know about the mistake, he did apologize but did not really try to correct it. read more

Sushi was a 4, although the rolls are a little small the prices are kinda in line with that. The entrees are very mediocre. Chicken don had mushrooms from a can and was bland. Beef udon was light on the beef and also bland. Bottom line: get the sushi, skip the rest. read more

I tried this place on a weeknight because it was close and I used to work at a japanese restaurant in High School. I am a rice bowl addict between my time at "Suishi Ichiban" (now Sakura Bana) and being spoiled by "O Casual" fusion in Omaha for so many years. Maybe I thought that "Sakura" always meant "Awesome". Unfortunately my bad experience started with the front counter guy, who has the personality of a rock, basically acting irritated when I asked if the beef bowl was any good. I'm not sure if this guy is related to the owners or just someone they found to fill the space, but he didn't seem pleased to be there and is not a good representative of the restaurant. If I ask about the rice bowl and you don't have an opinion, tell me the sushi is good and sell me some food!!! Now if the food is AMAZING I chock something like a snarky counter guy up to being quirky - think seinfeld soup Nazi - but the teriyaki rice bowl was strictly average and didn't feel like the size of most rice bowls I've had, or include much beyond the beef and rice and maybe a little pickled carrot. The pan fried dumplings/gyoza was also just what it was supposed to be. I'm torn between giving this place 2 stars and 3, as to be fair the price is pretty low for the area and for this type of restaurant - and the food was ready very fast. That being said I can't also overlook the most sullen front counter guy on the planet along with average flavor and small portion size. read more
