Soup of the Day - Cup size Salmon Chowder
    Judy J.

I shall preface this by saying eating or drinking anything at an airport is expensive! That said Salmon N Bannock is a nice option to have at the international terminal. Chowder is not your usual cream base and there is a smallish serving of salmon in there. As with most "fish in liquid", fish is on the dry side. Bannock is delicious though. Ladies behind the counter are nice & friendly. Located in the airport so it'll be as ambiant a setting as how you're feeling already. Some seating nearby to eat and if you don't see one, tables near an empty boarding gate will do fine. For locals, I'd recommend going to their flagship location on W Broadway to truly rate their food but if just passing through the terminal, the place offers a decent bite (compared to other options) nearby.

The food options at the US departures terminal are awful, but it's always a treat when flying internationally as there is Salmon n' Bannock On The Fly at the international departures terminal. Salmon n' Bannock On The Fly opened in December 2022, and I have been there twice -- first in May 2023 when flying to Fiji and New Zealand and then in March 2024 when flying to Europe. As we had not yet been to the main Salmon n' Bannock location, we were excited to try them in 2023, and it did not disappoint. Although expensive, the food was excellent, and we when flew to Europe the following year, we were looking forward to eating there again. The second time we went, I had a glass of wine, a salmon chowder, and a lox sandwich. Very pricy at $50, but delicious. My husband had an elk burger ($18) and really enjoyed it. My dining experience at Salmon n' Bannock On The Fly was completely different than my recent experience at the main location. I will never go back to the main location, but I will go back to the YVR location the next time I fly internationally. I wish they had one at the domestic and US terminals!

Get a salmon plate while waiting for your next flight. The salmon is cooked to order. It is served with a salad and a bannock. Bannock are a cooked flatbread common in Scotland. Historically, they were popular with fur traders, explorers and prospectors. Many would mix the dough in their bags and then fry it when hungry. They later became popular with the indigenous population of Western Canada. Bannock was a good source of carbohydrates. It has a delicious buttery, nutty flavor. So good and the owner was so sweet. Check this local gem out if you have a long delay at the Vancouver International Airport.

The first time I had bannock was up at Yellowknife. It was quite nice with just jam and butter. I was quite excited to try the food at this place as it is indigenous-owned and the menu is indigenous food. It took a while to understand the ordering system. There is a small area for ordering, not at the main area. The main area is where you pick up your food. I was undecided and finally got the salmon and bannock plate. It was quite filling for $20. The plate had bannock, baked salmon and some greens with lemon aioli. The salmon was not tender nor was it dry. It was ok and the aioli and greens made it better. The bannock was also average. It was an ok meal. Nothing outstanding or remarkable about it.

Located in the "D" terminal at Vancouver International Airport food court area, Salmon n Bannock features sandwiches made from elk, bison, salmon as well as salads, fries, drinks, fruit. and desserts. The unique "Bannock" bread is native Vancouver tribe, daily made simple bread, like native "fry bread" that is used in all their sandwiches. The food is unique, delicious and a different option while supporting the native people, who also staff Salmon n Bannock.

The burger tasted pretty good- bison flavor but not too gamey. It was very small for the price.

5+ for an airport restaurant. The Salmon N Bannock plate was the best airport food we have tried.

The noodles were so good. Al dente and the the sauce aas not salty but very tasty. No preservatives. Made fresh. The sauce very generous. I could eat bowls of it for hours. Serving was also huge. We also tried the chicken nori cutlet. It was average but still good. Serving size also good. Then we had the sizzling chiken with cheese and rice cake...another winner. Sayce was perfectly done and the cheese was ooey and gooey. The most mediocre dish was the beef bowl. I was hoping for more bulgogi flavours but got a chinese stuke stir fry instead. It was good but not korean. But hold on, this place is not a 100% korean place. Its more like a fusion. No kfc here or bossam. Their menu is not as extensive as a tradition korean place no army stew either. Even their soft tofu soups only has 1 choice. But they have a bit of everything to satisfy cravings. Their prices tho...cant be beat! One of the most affordable korean places out there. Wont break the bank. You can have a a meal for under $15 or under. Service was quick. Servers always attentive and ready to answer any questions. I would repeat for sure to try the other stuff. Cheers! Happy eating!

The website says to get there by 8:30 if you want to grab a table without waiting which we thought was crazy, but when we showed up at 8:32 we managed to snag the last free table so they're spot on with their timing! Lots of parties showed up right after us and the waitlist was super long by the time we left. As for ambiance, it's meant to be a greasy spoon diner at the back of a lumber yard so that's exactly what it is. The only part I wasn't expecting and didn't enjoy was that every few minutes you got a waft of the washroom smell even though we were sitting far from it, mostly because there's not a ton of ventilation in a small spot. The staff were super friendly and attentive which was lovely! I got the veggie omelette which came with their shredded hash browns and bread and my partner got the burger and fries. Everything was delicious! Huge portions and well priced. I especially loved the hash browns which were crispy on the outside. Overall a great spot! Just make sure to get there early if you don't want to wait

The staff took our name and number and texted us around 20 minutes later once our table was ready. The hot chocolate was just okay, the breakfast food was good and what you'd expect from a diner, but what really stood out was the dumplings. They were so good, definitely get the spicy wontons! Really good restaurant but I'd recommend coming on a weekday if possible to avoid a long wait.

Outdoor seating on a nice day so nice, indoor seating is a bit loud and kind of crowded, the patio seating is nice mix of both worlds. We sat on the covered patio and had a good time (a bit spider webby though). We ordered the wings, a cornbread (it's a muffin), the milltown burger and the moroccan lamb burger. The wings, in the hot flavor. Typical hot wings with buffalo sauce. Not spicy, very vinegary and pungent. Nice size, very crispy. Fair price for the amount you get. Really good overall. Cornbread (muffin). Really good. Kind of an odd thing to have as an appetizer, but so good actually with the sweetened butter, both were so good. Milltown burger. Not sure if we ordered it correctly but it's just a very plain burger no condiments or cheese (not sure if these were options, we didn't ask and weren't asked). Cooked very nicely. Otherwise a pretty run of the mill burger. Fries and tartar sauce were really good. The Moroccan lamb burger, nicely cooked, heavy on the sumac a little greasy. Not tons of lamb flavor. Not bad at all. The halloumi didn't have much of a taste maybe it was me? Who knows but it paired nicely with the beet and arugula salad. The salad was very very good. Price wise, very fair I feel, 67 usd 93 CAD for 2 apps and 2 entrees? Staff were very accommodating as well even with a very full restaurant. Nice people nice experience. Would recommend if you have the patience to travel to the location.
