Airport food is notoriously overpriced and sub par... but this place smashes both of those preconceptions. I honestly picked the joint because it was the only one with local beer at the food court but also because they offered more of a local food as well (the rest were big box chains). I ordered the Elk burger and grabbed a local canned beer from the display case. The woman working the counter was nice and informed me that it would take a little extra time for the burger. It came to about $20 (US) for the burger and beer (a steal in the airport, that's usually what you pay for a combo meal at one of those big burger joints) The burger was very tasty and served on bannock bread (an interesting quick bread native of Great Britain) and the beer was cold and refreshing (who cares if it was 10am). When stopping at the Vancouver Airport, this is a great spot. Wow! The Elk Burger was super juicy and delicious. Highly recommend. I also liked the Honey Lager beer too. The only reason for 4-stars is their service, which is not the friendliest. FYI, if you order a beer, you have to seat in the Alcohol Only area. read more

I shall preface this by saying eating or drinking anything at an airport is expensive! That said Salmon N Bannock is a nice option to have at the international terminal. Chowder is not your usual cream base and there is a smallish serving of salmon in there. As with most "fish in liquid", fish is on the dry side. Bannock is delicious though. Ladies behind the counter are nice & friendly. Located in the airport so it'll be as ambiant a setting as how you're feeling already. Some seating nearby to eat and if you don't see one, tables near an empty boarding gate will do fine. For locals, I'd recommend going to their flagship location on W Broadway to truly rate their food but if just passing through the terminal,the place offers a decent bite (compared to other options) nearby. read more

The food options at the US departures terminal are awful, but it's always a treat when flying internationally as there is Salmon n' Bannock On The Fly at the international departures terminal. Salmon n' Bannock On The Fly opened in December 2022, and I have been there twice -- first in May 2023 when flying to Fiji and New Zealand and then in March 2024 when flying to Europe. As we had not yet been to the main Salmon n' Bannock location, we were excited to try them in 2023, and it did not disappoint. Although expensive, the food was excellent, and we when flew to Europe the following year, we were looking forward to eating there again. The second time we went, I had a glass of wine, a salmon chowder, and a lox sandwich. Very pricy at $50, but delicious. My husband had an elk burger ($18) and really enjoyed it. My dining experience at Salmon n' Bannock On The Fly was completely different than my recent experience at the main location. I will never go back to the main location, but I will go back to the YVR location the next time I fly internationally. I wish they had one at the domestic and US terminals! read more

Get a salmon plate while waiting for your next flight. The salmon is cooked to order. It is served with a salad and a bannock. Bannock are a cooked flatbread common in Scotland. Historically, they were popular with fur traders, explorers and prospectors. Many would mix the dough in their bags and then fry it when hungry. They later became popular with the indigenous population of Western Canada. Bannock was a good source of carbohydrates. It has a delicious buttery, nutty flavor. So good and the owner was so sweet. Check this local gem out if you have a long delay at the Vancouver International Airport. read more

The burger tasted pretty good- bison flavor but not too gamey. It was very small for the price.

The salmon is very good, but for 20, you get the smallest filet I have ever seen in my life. I have had nigiri sushi larger than this. Along with the world's smallest salmon comes a pretty good piece of bread and a fresh salad. It is in the airport food court, so the other options are very limited, but these guys are really cheap on the portion size. read more

This gets 5 stars as an airport restaurant. We were here in the morning 5/2 and the lady behind the counter was extremely warm and welcoming. Fantastic attitude and service. I split the salmon n bannock plate with my fiancé who isn't the biggest salmon lover, but we both really really enjoyed it. The fish was a med-rare perfectly seasoned. First time having a bannock and that was great too! We both agreed this is some of the best, freshest airport food we've ever had. The first time I had bannock was up at Yellowknife. It was quite nice with just jam and butter. I was quite excited to try the food at this place as it is indigenous-owned and the menu is indigenous food. It took a while to understand the ordering system. There is a small area for ordering, not at the main area. The main area is where you pick up your food. I was undecided and finally got the salmon and bannock plate. It was quite filling for $20. The plate had bannock, baked salmon and some greens with lemon aioli. The salmon was not tender nor was it dry. It was ok and the aioli and greens made it better. The bannock was also average. It was an ok meal. Nothing outstanding or remarkable about it. read more

I was here when I flew out of the YVR international terminal in April 2023, this review got buried in my notes, but better late than never to share. For a snack before my flight, I had the candied salmon and ojibwe(sp?) wild rice pudding. Both of the snacks were so unique and delicious! The candied salmon had strips of candied (but fresh, not chewy like jerky) salmon with berries and greens, so it was like a mini salad. I had never heard of wild rice being used in rice pudding, and it was definitely different than the creamy puddings made with short-grain rice found in other cuisines, but the texture of the long grains in the pudding was nice and the earthy-floral flavour was interesting and pleasant. I just got grab and go things so there was no wait for my food to be prepared and the wait in line to order wasn't bad. The staff were all beaming with enthusiasm which is very refreshing to see! I would definitely recommend this outlet if you're looking to switch it up from the usual airport food and you want to get a taste of the local food culture because this is as truly local as it gets. Kind of expensive, but I'm not sure if you'd find a better deal at the other restaurants in this terminal (besides the fast food chains) and I'm pretty confident that this is the highest quality option. read more

Absolutely delish! We had never heard of this little restaurant, we just chose it based on the freshness of the salads and the unique menu. The staff was friendly and I loved having the indigenous wild rice on our tasty salad. We will def be back during our return flight read more

Open face Bison Bannock on gluten friendly Bannock (biscuit). The moist shredded bison with a rich gravy was very tasty and suitable for my spouse who has sensitivities to gluten. Server helping us was aware of GF and Celiac and helpful. A great option for those looking for something different other than the fast food chains in int'l terminal of YVR airport. I just had a bannock snack, which was delicious. The service was great and I really enjoyed the conversation with the owner, a lovely woman!

Excellent service with a friendly chat. My egg sandwich with elk salami and smoked cheddar was pricey but worth every bite. The aioli was so delicious and the bannock was fluffy and light. It truly was the best sandwich ever. Coffee was hot and strong, too. There should be long lines here instead of the other fast food chains with overpriced food that all tastes the same. read more
