Everything was good on this platter except the banana plantinee. It was under cook and if it was for garnish only why still cook it?
    KC U.

Our host is very energetic and sourceful. When my farther was asking why use a none over ripe banana as a garnish with food around it. He explained that a plantinee banana is only for garnished not edible. I almost choke on my food when he said that. This place has a feel of true ethnic background of Pinoy. Even the food carried it over too. Most of the dishes that I orders turned out to be salty. But then again that's how old Filipino dishes are. Either ito salty or sweet. It cant be in between. But as what my Lola say just add water or drink plenty of water to dilute it. Overall of all the dishes that I ordered are salty. It didn't have MSG for sure (I think). Check what I ordered

    Lechon Kawali

The heart of West Covina is home to some of the most authentic Filipino food in the San Gabriel Valley. And with this, Salo Salo Kitchen has come up as one of the best restaurants to visit if looking for the most authentic experience. Looking to try their food for myself, I dropped by on a Friday evening and placed a to-go order around 5:30PM. Looking at the restaurant, there were little to no people eating inside at the time. But with this, the waiting time was shorter than it typically would be. I placed an order for a Lechon Kawali which was $21 at the time of this review. Fortunately, the food came out pretty fast and I was able to get in and out of the tight parking lot. The quantity of the dish was pretty good as a whole. While the box itself was not deep, there were plenty of big meaty pieces inside. I enjoyed the fact there were some fatty pieces in the mix which helped to balance out the flavors. Accompanying the pieces of pork were two sauces: one more sweet and viscous, the other more sharp and liquid. For $21 in the West Covina area, the price point for this dish is a little steep and you can definitely get better value elsewhere. However, it can be worth your while if you consider that Lechon Kawali is a delicacy dish at places such as Salo Salo Kitchen. The taste of the food is what made the experience hit home. Biting into each piece of meat released a dry pork flavor. And adding in the sauce, the sweetness helped to give definition to the pork pieces. Conversely, the fatty pieces were juicy and gave a crunch to balance the heavy meat. Definitely eat this dish with a side of rice as it can be pretty heavy alone. For the $21 dollar Lechon Kawali plate, I would give Salo Salo Kitchen a solid 4 stars. While there were no issues with the taste of the dish, the price tag was on higher end of the spectrum and approached $27 after including a side of rice and after tax. If you are looking for more value in a meal, it might be better to search for other options in the area. But if searching for the most authentic spots in West Covina, give Salo Salo a try!

Gloomy weather means soup.. and today I was on a search for Bulalo. There is a parking lot for the restaurant shared with a strip mall. It usually has easy parking, but it can get busy during lunch with the other restaurants. Restaurant is big, spacious and bright. Service was fast and my food was pretty quick too. I know this is a family style restaurant, but I just had to have this soup! I was so happy with my bowl of rice and the soup was delicious and comforting. My leftovers were like 2 more meals to me. There was a lot on their menu that looked good and I want to bring my co workers here to try out the Filipino dishes.

This place should be banned for selling recooked food. We ordered take outs at the restaurant. Three items as follows and the unsatisfactory comments next to the food. 1) Crispy Pata paid $27 This food was probably refried three times based on the color and the toughness of the pork. The meat was darken brown and super dry. It's not that they used old oil but it does look like fried many times for reheating the fried pork. Waste of money I paid for. 2) Lumpiang Sariwa paid $11.50 This food was wrapped in wax paper. The lumpia wrapper was sticking to the wax paper. The lumpia stuffing was wrapped carelessly that it looks inedible. We have to wait to get the lumpia cold so we can peel the wax paper out from the lumpia wrapper. By the time we detached the wax paper from the wrapper, the wrapper is so stiff that we had to throw it away. 3) Pork Binagoongan paid $21.75 The pork they used is the leftovers lechon kawali. It's probably leftovers from other patron dinners who ate at the restaurant and decided to left behind their leftovers. It was so tough that is hard to chew. The bagoong they used is too salty that the food tasted super salty. I had to recooked the food to make it edible. Otherwise, I would just throw it away and wasted the money I paid for the food. I rate this place -10 out of 10

Salo Salo Kitchen is a nice restaurant for large gatherings with friends or family. The service is excellent! Our waiter was always ready to fill our glasses or clear out any dishes that were in the way. To be honest, I thought the food was okay. It was good, but I can't pinpoint a wow factor. However, I think that my opinion is heavily biased because I eat Filipino food pretty often. The fresh buko water was great! It's not often that I can drink one straight from the coconut and enjoy the flesh afterwards.

Used to come here all the time, food used to be really good here, In fact it used to be the best filipino restaurant in the area. Now it's just average to below average. What made it worst it took 15 for someone to take our order and 20mins for a refill on my soda. Other than that, it was the only service we received. It's lunch time 1pm and the workers are eating. why even come to a restaurant if service is nonexistent. They are only nice when it's time to pay/ tip. They even gave me a bad look when i had to stand up and walk to them for a refill. Sorry I always tip but i refuse to when I'm ignored the entire time until it's time to pay. Zero service with a a bad attitude for something as simple as a refill. Pathetic!

I have been coming here several times during pre COVID years and also before YELP. Today my brother-in-law wanted Filipino Cuisine lunch to celebrate his 85th birthday. I highly recommended Salo Salo since I've eaten here and loved the food. We were immediately seated at a round table for 6. Restaurant was decorated with hanging mini capiz star garland all around the dining room. Very festive but a nostalgic feeling of home country especially during Christmas . Well..... I was disappointed with the mango juice which was watered down and no taste of mango flavor at all !!! After I complained about it , our server brought back mango slushy ( which still tasted like the first juice but this time it was thicker) then he informed me it was not the Philippine brand but a kinda Indian brand juice!!!????!!! Well..... Our #10 MEAT LOVER's Kamayan Platter which was a feast of grilled favorites : Inihaw na Baboy (Pork chops cut into strips but meat was cold and tough) Beef Tapa ( marinated beef strips that were cold and meat tough) Inihaw na Manok ( 2 pcs charbroiled chicken bone-in leg quarters that were cold but had tender meat) BBQ Pork Ribs was delicious and meat was tender and tasty! Suppose to have Mango Salad as per menu, instead got salted egg with diced fresh tomatoes and onion salad??? While writing this review and reading the snap shot of the menu, I didn't realize that we didn't get the bundle of KangKong ??? This is the end of our platter dish. Well.... We ordered the PALABOK...this RICE NOODLES dish topped with shrimps, smoked fishy and crispy pork came also was served cold and dish was bland as well. Well.... We ordered Fresh Lumpia... bland veggie fillings Well... We had the LECHON KARE KARE which was plated with the sauce on the side of the bowl so as not to un-crisp the lechon ( fried pork belly chunk slices with veggies ). At this point ... I would think they changed cook ? Changed management? Not sure ! I had to ask the others who dined with me about their opinion. Almost everyone were agreeing with how bland food tasted ! Except for the birthday boy who enjoyed his food , and THAT's what mattered he was contented!

First and foremost, the premises require immediate cleaning, particularly the walls, bathrooms, and other areas. Upon entering, it is evident that the surroundings are in an unacceptable and unsanitary condition. To the owner of this establishment, please take prompt action to clean and repair the walls, address any damages, and restore the bathrooms to a hygienic standard. The current state is highly unsatisfactory.

I'm usually not a huge fan of Filipino food even though I'm Filipino . Crispy pata here is the business though!!! Took my dad who's a huge critic of all food and he decided to take a crispy pata to go. Bangong rice, bomb. Lots of deep fried stuff. Seems family owned and service is sometimes very slow. No alcohol available. Brightly lit with many windows in the front with a view of the parking lot and street.

We ordered the tipid package (included large pata, kare kare without oxtail, an appetizer, rice, and your choice of pancit bihon or pancit canton) and kenchi steak. We got lumpiang Shanghai (mini egg rolls with ground pork and shrimp) and a mix of bihon and canton. Most items serve three to four people, so come with a hungry party and prepare to take leftovers home. The crispy pata (a deep-fried pork knuckle) had a lot of flavorful and juicy meat. While this dish is inherently fatty, there is still meat to cut off. The kare kare (beef chunks, tripe, and vegetables with a braised peanut gravy) tasted good. The rich flavor was also influenced by vegetables, such as eggplants and long beans. Some of the beef chunks were a little fatty. The lumpiang Shanghai arrived late into our lunch because we had to follow up with our server. While they currently charge $23 just for this appetizer, the portion size was much too small. It seems that with this specific package, you'd get a smaller appetizer portion. The bihon (thin rice noodles) and canton (thick egg noodles) pancit mix tasted adequate, and we had no complaints. I enjoyed the kenchi steak the most. This dish is beef shin topped with bone marrow served on a sizzling plate with gravy and vegetables. The beef had a thick texture, and the potatoes tasted soft and lovely. It was filling and noticeably better than the items in the tipid package in my opinion. Lastly, even though we visited around noon, they unfortunately didn't have halo-halo (a Filipino milky shaved ice with fruits and preserves) available as a dessert. At the end of the day, this is a solid restaurant with large portions and well-seasoned flavors. I definitely see why it's a family favorite for many.

It tasted like a "healthy" version of Filipino food. Still, my 83 year old Filipino Grandmother (who's now averse to too much seasoning) genuinely enjoyed this modern interpretation of pansit. I arrived at Almuchow (West Covina) on Sunday (around 3:16PM). Parking is easy. The lot is big. Surprisingly, Almuchow (West Covina) had taken over the old location of Bistro Filipino. Almuchow (West Covina) had relocated to this new spot in late December. Staff is very professional, welcoming and friendly. Staff works hard. I observed how Staff worked nonstop throughout my visit. My food took 14 minutes and five seconds. Good time! As mentioned, the Longsilog ($15) and Pansit Mix ($16) appears beautiful. Although it lacks the usual saltiness & oiliness of traditional Filipino food, it felt health conscious with comforting textures. The ingredients tasted clean. The Longsilog's sausage had the familiar sweetness of the Longanisa, but it felt more comparable to a meatball/meatloaf version. The Pansit also had the wetness and length of the usual dish, but it tasted muted. Still, the food felt well-intentioned and filling. Regarding ambiance, Almuchow (West Covina) is spacious, clean, and welcoming. I appreciated how Filipino music played on its speakers. The flat screen TVs even showed filipino musicians. There's also plenty of tables and a gender neutral restroom. Overall, I had a good experience at Almuchow (West Covina). The food is a good option for customers looking for a modern twist on filipino classics. If curious and nearby, it's a decent option. 4.5 out of 5

They said they had none. not a big deal but honestly ice is a very important thing to have. There were no condiments on the table (patis , toyo, suka) etc which is common place in Filipino eateries. Around 6:30 we were being asked to finish our meal because they were "closing". Did they forget we ordered a bunch of stuff. If they are worried about their closing time, rhen please dont accept people an hour and a half before closing as you guys kmow Filipino food is not burgers and fries . You eat w little bit of everything slowly , its a cultural thing. We were again told two more times to hurry eating as they were closing. I was so shocked i coulf barely believe this kind of treatment. As a former caterer and hotel manager, we have never kicked anyone out of any establishment when they are still eating. You shut the door, you stop taking in customers but you always let the people still eating inside finish their meal, even if you had to stay behind for a bit. Another reason i took my best friend to dine rhere is because we were both so hungry and we dont do any cooking in our homes. My best friend paid for the meal --almost $150 , we decided against leaving a tip because the service was poor. The people working in the front had a less than acceptable demeanor, rushing us out of there we couldnt even finish eating. All in all, i felt embarassed in front of my best friend who treated me to the meal, when i had done nothing but brag about this place and their food non stop. I wpuld have loved to have had a conversation wirh Ms Nova Mendoza herself in person to compliment her on the amazing food but also to tell her that the staff needed further training im hospitality, customer care, and soft skills , it is their behavior and conduct which will bring this restaurant down. Pang Inasal absolutely hit the spot for us. My wife and I came in craving some Filipino comfort…read morefood, and this place delivered in every way. She ordered the sisilog (crispy pork with fried eggs), and I went with the Binagoongan talong (sautéed eggplant with shrimp paste). Both dishes were packed with flavor and cooked perfectly, rich, savory, and incredibly satisfying. We paired our meals with refreshing sago't gulaman, made with tapioca pearls, sweet syrup, and Filipino-style gelatin. It was the perfect sweet, icy finish. Customer service was great from start to finish. Staff were friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Pang Inasal did not disappoint, and we'll definitely be back to explore more of their menu. Highly recommended!

It's a large-ish space, and I guess kind of like a sit-down place (not "turo-turo/cafeteria style like some Filipino joints), with a ton of Filipino snacks on the counter. Plenty of seats that have seen better days. A portion of the restaurant is covered in plastic to house some construction equipment ? I asked for the pork sisig ala carte and decided to add an order of kalderetang kambing and 2c of rice. Big mistake buying more than one entree when you are taking it home and have no clue how their food tastes. I trusted Yelp too much. . Sisig had a 1:1 ratio of meat to bell peppers. I also couldn't help but feel lile the peppers were undercooked, even raw. Maybe that was their style, but I also disliked the mayo on top. Now the kalderetang kambing had a strange fishy (gamey) smell in the car. When I tried it at home, the meat looked so red and tasted way too sweet, not at all like the Kalderetas I'm used to back home. The meat was falling off the bone soft though. This is my problem with Filipino restaurants in the US - if they can't make dishes better tasting than what I make at home (i rarely cook but im a good eater), I cannot rate them high at all. I've eaten too much Filipino food in my life to know what tastes good. I feel bad because the folks who work here/(owners?) are pretty nice and they were working on Valentines. But the current rating they have is misleading. If you're going for the big entrees like I did, and are used to Gerry's Grill type sisig, prepare to be disappointed. Yelp, you did not come thru for me this time.

Service was attentive and vibes were very casual- definitely lives up to the filipino street food experience. The perfect place for a nice casual yap session with friends. You start by grabbing an aluminum tray and choosing from a wide selection of skewers- all priced at just $1.50 each, which makes it an affordable place. Once you've made your picks, you pay at the counter and they'll grill everything for you. There are also a few sauces up front to customize your flavors. The grilled skewers are served in your tray, and you're ready to dig in. Some of my favorites were the quail eggs, chicken heart, pork BBQ, chicken BBQ, pork ear, and fish tofu. The melon juice was also really good- refreshing and not too sweet. Would definitely come again for the skewers and casual street food experience!

We were disappointed that they didn't have any chicken isaw available that day, but the rest of the food was great. Here's how it works - you place your chosen skewers on a tray and hand them over for grilling. They came out perfectly charred and so tasty that, of course, we had to order rice to go with them. I also loved the palamig served in those classic street-vendor-style containers, which is super nostalgic of the Philippines. I went with the melon flavor, and it was just right and not too sweet. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to!
