I waited a little bit to do this review because my first experience was... okay but my more recent visits have been great! Here's why -- I came in the first time for a cut and dark-to-light balayage. It had been 2+ years since I last colored my hair so it was near virgin again except for maybe the tips. The cut was great, my stylist was super friendly, she achieved dark to light in one session so I was super pleased! One of the reasons I sought out this place after my hair coloring hiatus was because I did not want to go through the process again of lightening my hair like most stylists do. I just wanted dark-to-light in one appt. The next day when my hair was straight, I noticed the blend being super choppy. It bothered me butttttttttt I live in Shoreline and the salon is in Renton. I also have an extremely busy work schedule so it was inconvenient to come in. I tried to live with it because working in the dental field, my hair is tied up all the time anyway so I thought over time I would just get used to it. Weekend after weekend when my hair would be down, I was almost embarrassed to go out with it. I would point it out before others did. 5 weeks later, I called in to see if there was anything I could do about it and by this point it was too late. The gal I spoke to on the phone said I could come in for a toning appt and they can try to fix it. I wanted to come in ASAP around my work schedule and it just so happened that it couldn't be with the original girl I saw who colored my hair but instead, with Mai. Mai is AMAZING. Unfortunately, she couldn't quite fix the blend with the time allotted for a toning appt but she darkened the blend to help integrate it better in addition to toning my hair color. I set up my next balayage appt with her and she did an amazing job!! She gave me such a beautiful ashy color and added a little hint of purple to help preserve the ashiness for a little longer. She also never assumed to know what I was trying to convey and was patient with my explanations on what type of color I wanted. I never felt like she was rushing her work either. She totally the sweetest. The number of compliments I got on my hair after seeing her twice was ridiculous. She's a wizard and I cant wait to go back! read more

I rely on Yelp a lot to find new places to try and was excited to find a hair salon with high reviews. Did my research online (Yelp and IG for photos and reviews) and finally made the leap to schedule an appt to get my hair cut. I had hair to my waist and sample pictures of a short shoulder length style I was ready to go for. I rarely get my hair cut so this is a big deal and one I don't take lightly. Sure my hair will grow back if i end up hating it but I'm obviously picking a salon with this experience and price point to get an end result that I love. Luckily this place has 2 locations with many stylists of different experience and specialities that i get to choose from which should make this easier. Naturally i book an appt with a stylist in the higher price point because I'm trying to make sure my hair cut is as good as it can be. I book an appt in Bellevue at least 2 weeks out and on the day of, the stylist texts me saying that they're cancelling my appt 2 hrs before my scheduled time because she's running late and won't have time for my cut. Slight sour taste in my mouth but ok, I'll go to the Renton location with a new stylist because the salon still has overall good reviews and by this point i was ready and excited for a new hairstyle. Made an appt with another stylist and got a text from them almost immediately asking if I can change my appt time on that day. Now I'm wondering what kind of ethics this place has because why are you offering times and services your stylists can't fulfill? Told them that I can cancel if the date and time didn't work and they said it was ok. Came in and showed the stylist what I was looking for and she took a good 30 min showing me hair styles completely different than what I had come in with to finally cut my hair kind of how I wanted it. What I wanted was shoulder length hair with bangs and she cut it past my shoulders and no bangs because she didn't want me to have to adjust to short hair AND bangs and because she said the bangs I wanted weren't in season anymore. When she checked me out, she added an extra $15 to my bill for what I assume is consultation which was unsolicited when I came in. High chance of not coming back in after this experience and pricing. found out a friend made an appt here and told her my experience and she had something similar where her stylist tried changing her appt as well. This place gets 2 stars for not completely botching my hair but nothing higher for my overall experience. read more

I was booked for hair cut and roots touch up. I said "I like my hair color, just want to touch up roots to cover up some gray hair". Kayla applied toner all over my hair and ruined the balayage that I just did 3 months ago?! And the hair cut.. what a joke for $75. It's nothing like the pictures that I showed to her. I can find a 10 mins quick cut for $20 anywhere. I thought that they were better but not really! You may try other stylists in this studio as they seem to know what they are doing. read more

WE LOVE KEN!! Ken is so professional and detail-oriented. He takes incredible care with not only client's hair, but also his client relationships. He is caring, considerate, a breath of fresh air, and goes the extra mile to prioritize client needs. He also get my hair to the perfect, all-over blonde shade each time without using a harsh bleach-and-tone. He's great at heavy blonde highlights to give hair that all-over look with dimension. I'll be moving to another state soon, but am going to try my hardest to see Ken when I'm back in the Seattle area to visit family -- he is that good! Got my hair done by Elise. Unfortunately I don't have a before photo of the hair but my hair was generally black with 3-4 inches of previous balayage remaining. The photos are of my inspiration and my hair after a wash. I asked for foliyage style with more of my natural black shown though the lengths of my hair so it doesn't look like I got an all over color. The balayage starts lower near the front of my face and gets higher towards the back which is the opposite of my inspiration pic. I have gotten my hair done numerous times at this locations by few of the other girls and have had good results. Unfortunately non of the other girls were available on my day off. read more

She definitely knows her craft well, and will make sure your hair is healthy and stylish. I love that she's helping me get the natural texture and wave back in my hair! Cherie is magic. I was able to get a last minute appointment with her to get my hair cut but I wasn't quite sure what I wanted. I showed Cherie some pictures and she started moving my hair around to show me what it would look like and I started getting nervous that I wouldn't like it. She talked me through it and we decided to take it easy for this appointment and she started working her magic. This review is for Elise! I had been wanting to get a blonde balayage for a while, and after some saving and research I decided to book with 44th. Elise told me she would get me as light as possible, and she delivered (see 1st pic). However I noticed that there was still a brown band left from previous hair dye so I wasn't completely happy. It wasn't Elise's fault, it was just inevitable. She offered to give me a complimentary toner to help it blend, which was so kind of her and shows her dedication to client satisfaction. Salon was recommended by a good friend and for another hairstylist but she was booked until February and I NEEDed a cut bad (before Chinese New Year) so I booked with Cherie and she was incredible. I LOVE my long shag - she is the true shag queen and so amazing at her craft. She listened to what I asked for and gave me long curtain bangs while managing to keep my length AND incorporate my grown out undercut beautifully, she gave my hair LIFE again. I've been looking for a place to color my hair for a really long time and I've finally found it! Ken was my stylist and he did the most amazing job with my hair. He took it from black to the most beautiful neutral blonde/light brown hair color. At the beginning, he made sure we were both on the same page with what I was expecting for my hair color so that there would be no surprises at the end. No more tiger stripes for me (that's a story for another time my friends). He took good care of me and even gave me super helpful tips to curl my hair. I also appreciated that the other stylists spaced out their clients and that everyone wore their masks diligently. I'm so glad I found this place and definitely recommend Ken! Nice people here, but was taken aback by one stylist who charged way too much for her work. Be sure to ask up front how much it'll cost for hair color and cut. This stylist did a great job with the color, but wasn't too talented with the cut ($70, which I could've got for $15 at a hole-in-the-wall salon). The cost of the color was astronomical (over $345!). Unfortunately, I won't return because of the surprise pricing. read more

Elise had a last minute opening for a balayage. My hair is thick, box and salon-dyed, so I was not expecting the beautiful transformation that Elise was able to do in the span of 3 hours. We settled on a partial ashy balayage and I requested a cut. I am religious about using gentle cleansers, moisturizing, and even doing Olaplex at home. My hair looked so great after the blowout, we decided on the haircut for next time. I really appreciated her feedback, skill with processed hair, and how she took her time with me. I set up the next two appointments immeditely. Fyi- since some of these salon services take a long time, know that there is a McDonald's, Starbucks, taco, and teriyaki place all 1 min walking distance. I'm not sure how I feel about my experience. Tia was nice and friendly but I didn't exactly get what I asked for and it was quite pricey. I wanted my hair to fade from a dark purple to a magenta but I mostly got all magenta. There were hints of purple here and there but it didn't look like the picture at all. Without paying close attention to my hair it just looks like it's all one color and I could have done that myself. Sigh. Other people probably have better experiences with her but I didn't have a very personal experience with her. I'm sad my hair didn't turn out how I imagined it but ended up paying $250 + tip. I have been a returning customer to 44th st salon since 2019 and they were the first place I wanted to go to update my kid's hair color. Unfortunately they were very unprofessional and unfriendly when discussing hair goals via email. They were also noticeably unresponsive and didn't respond to my first email for 2 weeks. I asked them to share what services they offer for hair color within my budget of $300 even if something simple. They responded saying that none of their color services "would be suitable" due to the "damaging process" of bleaching and at first would only discussed bleach and tone for $500. I had sent photos of my kid's hair and clearly he had his hair bleached before. They said whatever bleach and color they added "considering he needs a haircut those lightened pieces will be cut off." I'm not sure what salon would cut off their own color work. It wasn't until 3 weeks after my initial inquiry that they offered they could do peekaboo color in my price range. By that time I had found another salon. After posting my initial review of this very poor customer service experience they did not respond at all in yelp and offered no apology. In fact they emailed me asking me to remove my review because "we feel like we explained this to you and our front desk spent a lot of time writing you." (They're emails were no more than a few sentences). Really unfortunate. read more

I brought my sister here to get her hair done for her 18th birthday present. Morgan was our stylist and she took really good care of my sister. This was my sisters first time getting her hair dyed and hates getting her hair cut because she's had bad experiences with stylist taking off too much length. Morgan did a good job reassuring her and easing her tension. Morgan was so sweet and polite, I love having stylists with a great style and look because I know they'll give their customer one too. The color wasn't as red as my sister hoped but Morgan explained that if we weren't satisfied we could come back to add in red. My sister loved the cut, Morgan only cut off the amount she promised and then added in layers. She also took the time to curl and style her hair after. It looked great! I love when a stylist gives you advice and tips for how to make your hair the best it could be. She taught us so much about hair care and tricks for curling. She sold us some products and explained how to get the best results when you use them. They also had a bunch of products on sale and I absolutely love the product I bought. She recommended it because I told her my hair never stays curled. It was a pre curling spray and it worked so good! Next day and my hair is still curled! We will definitely come back here! read more

Wow Kathy is an angel. I came in with like 4 different ideas in my head and she recommended a color that would work for my upcoming travel and skin tone. It's a bit blonder than I was initially expecting but I love it so much. Also my hair is insanely thick but fine at the same time, so she had to spend hours just applying the bleach on extremely tangly hair and she nailed it. Application is perfect. My bf loves it so much so we're all happy campers here! Price was super transparent, I knew what it would cost when I booked the session. I have had my thick, thick Asian hair balayaged an ashy tone for the past 10 years in various salons located in Northern California, Southern California, Utah, and Washington on the search for the best colorist I feel comfortable with. Amy R. peaks as one of the top on my list! Personality is a big deal for me since Ill be forced to spend 4+ hours making small talk (which is not my favorite...) but Amy was the perfect person to be with! She was so easy to talk to, it never seemed forced or too small talky, and the time went by so fast. Her personality is so sweet and charismatic, and its so clear she loves her craft. She was the most intricate colorist Ive ever had, working with the tiniest sections of my hair and hand painting the color to ensure I got the dimension and blend I asked for. My hair ended up being so beautifully colored! It was the best dimensional balayage I've ever had in my life. Not exaggerating. The best.
