Honestly the best hair salon who actually gives you the best results. I've been to 44th twice and got my hair done by Grace and Elise. I've ventured out the last two years to see other stylists and I regret it. I've had my fair share with other stylists who look like they do good decent jobs but it's never what I want or they do a really bad job. I honestly think they give the BEST results and I would pay more to have it done beautifully than to have other stylist who charges OK prices for a mediocre job. I've followed them on IG since day 1 and I love seeing all the hair that they do. They work their magic!!! They know Asian hair, and they know how what they are doing. The salon is very clean and they definitely took Covid seriously. All clients were to get their temperature check at the door, made us wash our hands, and they cleaned up the area after each client. I've been going to 44th Street Salon for 3 years now. I think it's time I left a review! I love the atmosphere, the staff, my hair stylist especially! Shout out to Elise! She's super sweet and easy to to talk to. She makes the entire session a breeze from booking the appointment to being in her chair and getting me to my hair goals! She never disappoints! The salon itself is pretty sanitary and clean during this pandemic. They check your temperature and ask you to wash your hands before you're seated. They also wipe down each station after each client. As for price - it is pricey but you get what you pay for. So I say it's actually really reasonable. Pretty hair ain't cheap! read more

It is so stressful to find a good hair stylist. I always feel disappointed when I pay $$$ for a hair cut that feels ordinary or not quite what I wanted. A lot of hair stylist will adjust my requests to a style that is within trend rather then giving me exactly what I ask for. I am so grateful my friend referred me to Tia. I scheduled with Elise in July and she was really quick to help me get an appointment and was flexible when I needed to push back the appointment. 44th is talked about a lot and I heard about them more about how their balayages are amazing and such. I finally got to my appointment in November and they meet you at the door, have you wash your hands and sign a waiver and everything is wiped down and sanitized :^) Everyone wears masks and there is also plastic dividers which was really nice. My appointment was 6 hours and Elise really made it go by fast and she was really great about explaining hair care and everything since I had so many questions! The bleaching process took a long time but she did talk to me and tell me what she's doing and the time really did fly by. I came in looking for an ash blonde balayage and I was really on the line about doing gray and Elise helped me choose a color so we went with gray and even recommended the money strips (two strands in front of the head) that I didn't even consider before! Her work is amazing and I got so many compliments on my hair already and I love it so much. She also tells you everything about maintaining it and caring for it as well as specific products. Everyone was shocked because I went from very processed and uneven hair and it came this very beautiful gray balayage within one session. Kayla was an amazing hair stylist. She paid so much attention to detail and spent a great amount of time on my hair to make sure I got the results I want. This salon is great if you are looking to avoid multiple sessions and get the hair you want in one sitting. Ken Ly (@kenly.hair) is a freakin hair god you guys--if you're looking for a new hairstylist, go see him!! I've had my hair colored a few times in the past and often find myself bit underwhelmed by the results not turning out exactly how I wanted it, but not this time. I went in for a rich dark chocolate/chestnut balayage that's supposed to blend seamlessly with my natural black Asian hair, and was a bit scared of it turning out too bright, too muddy, or too stripey/chunky based on similar photos on the Internet. But thanks to Ken, I came out with exactly what I wanted! He really did make it look like I was born with all this natural dimensions in my hair. With so many blonding specialists in the area, it's so nice to find a versatile stylist like Ken who can do beautiful blondes, bronzes, and fantasy colors, but can also absolutely slay a super dark and natural-looking brunette when the time comes! Ken is also a super great listener, and it shows in his haircut. I told him my long-term goals of growing out my hair more, and he kept that in mind the entire time. I barely had to sacrifice any length for the end result, and yet all the dead ends and pieces that were weirdly sticking out are all gone. He also stopped and asked every time he was unsure about something I hadn't explicitly given him my preference on, rather than proceeding based on his own preference (which I've found a lot of other stylists do). Would not recommend, my hair was left yellowish/gold! Not what i requested, I HIGHLY suggest that if you don't want to be left unhappy go elsewhere!!!! So unsatisfied with the service & for the price id go elsewhere!! Never once have I left with a bad haircut. My hair stylist is Jenny and I absolutely love her attention to detail. Chelsea is absolutely amazing and so talented. I can't give her enough credit!!! She is extremely tentative and will spend hours perfecting your hair to what you want. I came in with years upon years of black box dye wanting to go blonde. My hair is literally a nightmare to work with, it doesn't lift well at all and I knew going blonde would mean extensive damage. Chelsea got me blonde in just TWO sessions (a previous salon told me it would take me 4-5, each costing about $250 each). She spent hours on my hair, she pays a lot of attention to little details and makes sure it's perfect. By the second session my hair was blonde and I had minimal damage. My hair was previously lightened but I decided one day I wanted dark hair again and covered up my blonde with box dye. I have serious issues. I know. I was able to get an appointment within 2 weeks. I told Kathy that I was going for an ashy brown balayage and Kathy informed me it might be difficult in the first session since she wasn't sure how the box dye would lift. Thankfully, my hair was able to lift lighter than expected!! Kathy took the extra time to make sure my hair blended well from my grown out black hair to the box dye to the ashy color. I went last June to have my long hair touched up. Nothing drastic, I'm talking Hair Cutting 101, here. I asked for about 2 inches of layering and some side swept bangs, and for heaven's sake not come near me with a flat iron! THREE HOURS LATER, my hair was cut and the stylist had convinced me to let her try curling my hair with the flat iron. I looked like Shirley Temple on crack with 80's wispy fringe bangs. I drove straight to my husband so that he could laugh at me and to keep me from crying. When I got home and had washed the kinky curls out, I discovered I had a woman's mullet. A bob--I'm talking chin length--in the front and still very long in the back. There was a 6 inch difference in the layering. It took 6 months for that bob part to grow out so I could put my hair in a ponytail without using clips!
