Issac checked us in and made us some coffee while our stylists readied the chairs. My boyfriend's hair came out great thanks to Suzy (and his hair can be kinda tricky to get the sides right) and mine came out perfectly thanks to Tina (who checked in on length and my layers very diligently to make sure they were to my liking and matching the shape of my face). Also appreciated that I was able to easily book the two of us at the same time through the group booking option on their website. Pricing is very reasonable for the quality of haircut and wash. First off, I came in wanting a full head of light brown highlights to make my dark hair look sun-kissed. She gave me a full blonde balayage that was unasked for and unwanted. I left the salon that day, upset and distraught with how my hair looked and called later because I was so disturbed by how I looked. I came in the next day to get a tone to fix her mistake. They made me pay $60 on top $350 I had already paid after trying to overcharge me for a balayage instead of highlights. After getting it toned down to closer to the color I wanted. The toner burned my scalp and lasted maybe 24 hours before my hair turned blonde again. They were rude and unwelcoming when I came in to get it fixed and I was really expecting better from the owner, who was my hairstylist. After trying several places in the island, this has been my personal favorite for Asian male cuts. Came for a men's wolf cut and right when I thought they were done, she continued to clean up and made sure everything was cut even. Still haven't found a place that care about the details as much as this place and I never regretted coming. The only thing I would add is it's hard to find as it's located on the second floor in a plaza with a Korean market. I was looking for a salon where I could cut my hair and it wouldn't be too pricey. I found Salon Ava on Yelp and they had great reviews which drew me to them. I called and I was able to schedule an appointment later that day. They have a shared parking lot with Palama supermarket and other stores so it was quite busy around my appointment time (12pm). I went into the salon and was greeted by the staff then quickly seated at the hair washing station. I then showed the hairdresser, Joanie, my hair before and how I wanted my ends more evened out. I showed her some inspo pics for my hair as well as how I wanted to cut my bangs. She paid attention to the details and made sure to make everything even. She took the picture once she was done to make sure that I was satisfied or wanted any other changes. With tip, the total came out to $60 which is great for the attention to detail. I love Salon Ava! I have been coming here since roughly 2017/2018. She was recommended by my coworker. I have never changed stylists since then. She is a magician! She's able to see how your texture of your hair and how best to cut it. Today, I came for a retouch on my Japanese permanent straightening and a cut (will return for color retouch) and she also did a collagen treatment. Washing my hair is such a hassle for me because I have weft extensions and thick/coarse hair. So glad I found this place!
