She's able to see how your texture of your hair and how best to cut it. Today, I came for a retouch on my Japanese permanent straightening and a cut (will return for color retouch) and she also did a collagen treatment. After trying several places in the island, this has been my personal favorite for Asian male cuts. Came for a men's wolf cut and right when I thought they were done, she continued to clean up and made sure everything was cut even. Still haven't found a place that care about the details as much as this place and I never regretted coming. The only thing I would add is it's hard to find as it's located on the second floor in a plaza with a Korean market. I was looking for a salon where I could cut my hair and it wouldn't be too pricey. I found Salon Ava on Yelp and they had great reviews which drew me to them. I called and I was able to schedule an appointment later that day. They have a shared parking lot with Palama supermarket and other stores so it was quite busy around my appointment time (12pm). I went into the salon and was greeted by the staff then quickly seated at the hair washing station. I then showed the hairdresser, Joanie, my hair before and how I wanted my ends more evened out. I showed her some inspo pics for my hair as well as how I wanted to cut my bangs. She paid attention to the details and made sure to make everything even. She took the picture once she was done to make sure that I was satisfied or wanted any other changes. With tip, the total came out to $60 which is great for the attention to detail. Omg this is such a hidden gem! I am in Hawaii for vacation and needed a good hair wash after doing a bunch of water activities. Washing my hair is such a hassle for me because I have weft extensions and thick/coarse hair. So glad I found this place! Everyone was so kind - I told them how I wanted my hair styled and to be careful of my extensions. They were very gentle when washing my hair and working around the extensions. Probably the friendliest and welcoming salon I've been to. Needed to do a last minute makeover but I couldn't find a salon that would match my availability. Luckily, I remembered Salon Ava on the second floor of Palama Supermarket building. Suzy greeted me with a big smile and was ready to do my hair. I have quite a lot of hair and a harsh bleached peekaboo which would make it difficult to fix up, but she took the challenge and gave me a wonderful layered lob with highlights. My hair looks healthy too. My fiance loved the new look so much. I'm so ready for my pre-wedding photoshoot!
