Shelli described a bit what she would consider doing with my hair and gave me her number. It was low-pressure enough that I contacted her the next time I needed a hair cut. I have always been a reluctant style subject. Since my mom subjected me to cuts by beauty school fiends as a kid, I have always been afraid of change, but Shelli and I had a nice discussion about what I could deal with (i.e. not 50 products and flatirons; I can't even dry my hair without bonking myself in the head repeatedly) and what I was looking for. She talked me up to something a little different but that was similar enough that I wouldn't go into shock. She also gave me good tips on how to style/dry it, since I am all thumbs at that (though on the first attempt I did a pretty good job at recreating her results, so that's saying something for her technique!) Maybe next we will move up to color, a new step for me! The salon itself is small with an explosion of graffiti-looking murals on the walls. Not what you might expect in Downers Grove, but it's cool that they are adding a splash of urban flair to this 'burb.

Frankie is a great conversationalist and stylist! She listened carefully to what I was looking for and managed to build on the vision. In addition to cutting 3 inches off, she added some layers while keeping it low maintenance. To finish it off, she even put some temporary black spray to cover up my greys. It has pretty good staying power; I only noticed minimal rub off on my pillow. I'm on day two of the blow dry, and my hair still looks great! I paid $45 for the cut and blow dry, not including tip. It was worth every penny for me, not to mention a great souvenir from this trip to Chicago!

I am VERY picky when it comes to my hair and Jessica is a hair god! I would trust her with my hair completley and have never come across anyone as good as her. Sadly due to certain situations she had to stop doing hair. I continued to still go to this place and try Francci, a new person they hired to take jessica's place. The first time I went to her the color completley faded after one wash, even though I made sure to wash in cold water. They told me to come and would fix it free of charge, which i was very happy about! They DID not tell me they were bleaching my hair again about 2-3 days later. After that my hair COMPLETLEY broke off in multiple spots. When I was leaving the salon they kept telling me how good my hair looked, even though it looked terrible. When I got home clumps and clumps were coming out. When I texted francci what had happened she told me it was normal and nothing to worry about. On top of all that they charged me somewhere around $500 from going to dark brown to silver. I understand and was ready to pay that much but when you burn someone's hair off you would think they would compensate you or even give you the service for free. Not to mention during the bleach process she put a plastic bag over my head (I am in cosmetology school and was told to NEVER do that). My head started to get hot and I told her that, and she said "that's a good thing." It got to a point where it was unbearable so I said again to Francci "it's getting really hot" and she then said "oh wow it is hot let's wash you off!" When they took the plastic bag off there was literally steam coming off my head. I was also promised a free haircut and money off my new few services and never got it, even though I continued to go back. Every single time I went back I had more and more problems. There would be times my hair would have blonde patches, as if it wasn't even dyed. There are pictures below to show everything I am talking about. I am just posting this because I would hate for this to happen to anyone else. It's been almost year now and am still dealing with the consequences of my hair being broke off and fragile. They were almost more than unprofessional as one time they had an intern help with HALF of my hair and did not charge me any less for that either. I use to trust this place with everything and now I would never go back ever. Not to mention, Peggie once spilled coffee on my Louis Vuitton purse and said "oops" I attached pictures of my burnt off pieces and tried to compare the burnt pieces to how long my hair actually is (ignore the purple, I did that myself which turned out better and less patchy than going to this salon.)

I have been going to Christina since I was 8 years and I could not trust or love her more. I will share this story and photos just to show her magical abilities and serious understanding of hair and hair treatments. I moved from Chicago to New York City a few years ago and was going on a last minute vacation for which I wanted to touch up my highlights. For reference I am a brunette and Christina has given me this beautiful balayage/ lighter pieces framing my face and I just needed to touch up these highlights. Let me reiterate... HIGHLIGHTS. Long story short I walked out of my nyc appointment fully blonde. Not one strand of brown hair left on my head. Like Britney spears blonde circa 2000. It was trash. I immediately flew home to Christina. Before even telling my family I was coming into town I made sure Christina was available. She worked her magic ...after laughing and getting over the horror that was my hair. But she completely transformed my hair back, which not only shows that she is good at her job but truly understands the process of the treatments and how to appropriately use which colors /treatments to obtain the best results. There are clear color blocked areas. Parts of my hair look like a cheetahs print because the color is splotchy. Just terrible. Then when I followed up even though there's clear picture proof, they just kept making excuses. It shouldn't take an entire day of talking to not get a resolution of a botch job. They said "I left happy". I left because I was already half late to an important dinner because the stylist was running so late. Madeline was the one who took over after the second try and tried to fix it but that's also how I ended up with the choppy color at the back. This took approximately 4 to 5 hours of my time over 2 days and I am not very happy right now. Yeah my hair is colored but it's not the way I wanted it and now I'm told it's extremely damaged from all of their attempts of trying to fix it.THEN.... Madeline had to cut my hair to remove the damage. I didn't want s haircut!! And then Madeline who is the owner's daughter kept saying things to make me feel bad like it's my choice of color that blood. Well the stylist should have shared with me. Then it's my fault because on the 3rd attempt Madeline was late taking her daughter to Girl Scouts trying to fix my hair. I'm sorry. Then she tells me when I have to come back the next day that she's coming in early to take care of me. Again. So sorry. Then after she finishes up the hair she said that they lost money on me. Here are my pros: I called the day before and was able to get an appointment. Very pleasant and professional on the phone. When I walked in, I was greeted and waited no less than 10 minutes before starting on my hair. (How many times have you walked into a salon and NO ONE speaks, or you get to the salon and have to wait over an hour before they start on your hair.) The young lady who shampooed my hair was SUPERIOR!! I think her name is Stephanie. That was the best shampoo I ever had. Oh, and they have steamers as well. I love getting my hair steamed when the conditioner is in it. Stephanie used my products I brought in with no problem, and she blew my hair straight in no time. That was the best part of the experience. Ms. April was phenomenal! She was pleasant, professional, and warm. She was gentle, braiding my hair. The salon was immaculate and set up well. There was no loud talking, no loud TVs or music. The sound was a decent level where we didn't have to yell at one another when talking. THEY DO AND BELIEVE IN NATURAL HEALTHY HAIR! I've been natural for years, and doing my hair was no problem. Ms. April said most of her clients are natural. Oh, they have wine!
