I remember the first time I came to Tan years ago. I stupidly went to Winn's Beauty Salon and the "hair stylist" there gave me a Korean Mom Hair Cut. I was about 25. So I came to Tan by a referral and never left. She's stuck with me for life! I usually come here for A-line bob cuts and she gets it right every time. I love it! I literally cut my hair about every 4-6 weeks. It gets a little pricey, but definitely worth the results since I won't let anyone else ever touch my hair. The plus side of cutting your hair so often? You become friends with your hair stylist! How awesome is that. Last weekend I was in a wedding and Tan did my hair and make up. It looked really good and turned out very well in pictures. I've been following my stylist for about a decade now. I told her: "Cindy, the only time I won't be able to follow you is if you or I move too far." Luckily, she didn't stray too far, and she landed here. I call Cindy for an appointment for my hair cut and grooming. I don't need an appointment but it sure cuts down on the waiting time. She usually fits me in within reason. School and work makes it difficult sometimes, but she is very accommodating. I love Cindy, she does me and my hair needs justice. She is very friendly, and her temperament reminds me of my doting(and sometimes scathing) mother. Both Cindy and the other stylist tend to be busy, and from the previous reviews, very well liked by their patrons. About the place, I love this place. It's clean and plesant smelling. Decor is very modern and alluring. The other stylist is always friendly to me, no scowls or burning looks. Parking lot doesn't have hooligans hanging around, and it's easy to park. I was very skeptical about coming here at first, just because I have been going to the same hair stylist for years now until I have finally decided that its time to make a change. My current stylist wasn't as flexible as she used to be. I discovered this salon on yelp and I am very happy with my result. I made an appointment with Tan and is excited to have her do my hair from now on. Tan is very knowledgeable and takes direction really well. I asked for what I wanted ( highlight with low lights and a darker base) and I also asked for a nice new hair cut and I got exactly what I wanted. She really takes the time to make sure your hair is cut and colored perfectly. So happy I discovered her. It was a bit more pricey than what I normally paid but it was a reasonable price compared to other high inn American salons that charged over $100s. It was my first time getting a hair cut that was about $45 but it was worth it. I highly recommend her to friends and family. She only takes cash..so make sure to have some on handy or bring more than enough just in case. I dont think she takes checks but you can call and ask before going to the salon. I usually get my hair highlighted in the summer and it took me a while to find a colorist who was good with highlights and charged a decent rate. But I found just that with Tan. She is awesome! You can either come in with a photo or describe to her what you want and she'll give you just that. She also makes her own suggestions, but doesn't pressure you into anything you don't want. All of her suggestions have done me well, though, so I say give it shot! She's fun to talk to and is totally hip, so she knows everything that's going on in the world of celebrities and fashion. Especially celebrity hairstyles. :) Her salon is so chill, I've rolled through there with no make-up without feeling all self-conscious. Just a note, she only accepts cash or check. This review is for Tan! Wow what a talented colorist!! I came in with a pretty botched highlight job and was nervous that I'd never find anyone who would do a good job... I told her what I wanted - I'm not very good at explaining, but I was amazed at how she filled in my blanks and finished my sentences like she already knew exactly what I needed! She just worked her magic with highlights and lowlights and all kinds of awesomeness. I'm serious, watching her I felt like she turned hair coloring into art! Long story short, she blow dried my hair to reveal the prettiest, most subtle and natural looking caramel highlights I could have hoped for. She was just SO knowledgeable with everything she explained. Such an experienced colorist and it shows! She also added some color gloss that was also a deep-conditioning treatment and I left with hair softer than I've ever had, and sealed up my split ends. The best part is, my grand total was partial highlights, deep-conditioning, blow dry, and flat iron; ALL for the flat rate of partial highlights - $65 That does not happen at any other salons! This is a great salon where the stylist take pride in what they do and it shows in their work. Currently its a one man show but Tan makes sure each and every one of her customers leaves with a smile. She use to work at a big fancy salon in Newport Beach but now she manages the salon. Don't expect to pay the cheap Asian salon prices but her prices are still definitely reasonable and cheap compared to what I'm use to paying in Newport Beach. I met Tam in July for my very first request for highlights. I actually jumped the gun with choosing her salon based on convenience but with my heart racing and my mind on what I wanted, I pulled through! She pulled through! I walked in completely toed up, my hair is very thin, long and with absolutely no style. I did this on purpose to observe how Tam would work her magic on hair I already know how to style. She began with standard questions on what I wanted, I showed her a photo I fell in love with, but her response was that it will take more than one session to get to the mix of colors in the photo. Being it was my very first time, I was not knowledgable with the process of color so with no question I went through with her recommendation. She did thin blonde partial highlights which she had me sit under the heater for 25 minutes, she washed my hair, dried, styled and added bangs to my look for the price of $85. Like I said, this was my very first experience with highlights, let alone color so my personal opinion on price was a bit over my budget. The final product is posted in the photo album on yelp for this salon. 2 months have past and because my hair is naturally a very dark brown, almost black, I wanted to get my roots touched up. Her price for touch up is $65 for highlights. I walked in and decided, No, I don't want the same thing so I requested for highlights of a mix of chestnut and some reds. Again, her recommendation wasn't close to my request, because I needed a lighter base color for the highlights I want so the color will appear. She explaind that she will give me a base color of red and I can decide what color highlights I want on top of it so I agreed. She started her process and I sat in her chair for 20 minutes until it was time for a wash. I had no clue what the turn out would be, but she kept assuring me it would look good on me. Wash, dry and style.. I came out a red head. I was skeptical because it is another brand new color reflecting on my skin tone so I asked the opinions of my friends along with my own. It turned out too bright for my liking, so without hesitation Tam accomodated my needs. In fact, she already offered her time to tone it down with no charge if I ever felt unhappy with the brightness. With that said, i called her the very next day to schedule to tone down the color. She mixed chestnut and burgundy together and applied the color to my bright red hair. SHE FIXED IT! I left her salon nothing less than happy with her service. She reminded me that she has no charge for a bangs trim whenever I need it so I was one happy lady going home today. My scalp did not burn. My hair is soft AND shiny and smells good too. P.S. Don't let bad reviews who use "they seem nice, but..." If the yelper was a true client, they would name the stylist who worked with them. read more

This review is long overdue, but I wanted to acknowledge Tan's exceptional work. I came to Tan a couple months ago for the first time looking to lighten my hair. I arrived with fading brassy brown highlights in my natural med/dark brown hair and wanted something brighter and less orange. Tan listened to my preferences (natural looking highlights the lightest I could go WITHOUT changing the base color) and offered her expert opinion. She suggested light neutral blonde babylights--fine highlights from root to end that give a natural look--over the more ombre look I initially wanted because she felt it was more current. That's one of the many great things about Tan: she's up to date on the latest trends and regularly educates herself, which I find important in any career. I was initially concerned with the blonde highlights not blending with my natural color since I had never before gone this light, but three hours of personalized attention later (with a toning treatment, conditioning mask, and layered trim), my hair not only LOOKED, but also FELT amazing. Tan's attention to detail was evident in the carefully woven highlights that blended perfectly with my base. I felt like a new person and could not (still can't!) stop looking at my hair. My hair was incredibly silky, which pleasantly surprised me since I went lighter. The price is very reasonable for a personalized, one-on-one service, Tan's personable and fun company, and a beautiful and healthy looking cut and color.
