I'm sooooooo HAPPY! Tan is AMAZING! If you have asian hair please go to her! I had got my hair done twice at Carlton within a two week span.. And paid major $$$ . I asked for ombre with balyage highlights. Ended up with horrible lines in my hair and orange colored highlights . With Valentines day coming up ,I literally was going to cancel all my plans. Due to the embarrassment my hair color. I spent so much money and I looked like a box color home job. Tan fixed my base and toned my highlights . She is super sweet and really understands asian hair . She even glossed my fried orange hair. She uses really good color not the stuff you buy at Sally's. i yelped and found. This is not my usual place and was unfamiliar with whom was good. It was last min and she, Tan( if thats how its spelled) took me in last min. I knew exactly what I wanted and she did too. Lots of layers to lighten my head helped so much. I went in early and she started on me. an hr later walking away with a great cut and the best part was i paid half of what i would normally pay. ANd take it from me i have long thick hair. Just got my highlights done for the first time today by Tan and I am in LOVE!!! She did such an incredible job and I had no clue what I wanted to do with my hair. She offered some suggestions and I told her to do what she thought would be best because after all the times she's cut my hair I trust her completely! My hair was a hot mess. Another saln had dyed it dark and they did not have the talent to color correct. I went to yelp and found Katelyn Salon. The reviews were so good that I made an appointment. All I can say is that I walked out of there with the beginnings of having my red hair again. I was thrilled. Tan is extremely talented and very hospitable. This is by far the best salon I've ever been to. Tan, my hair stylist, is amazing at what she does. She takes in pride in her work and is one of the very rare ones that actually listen to what you want instead of doing what they want to do with your hair. If you tell her to take of 2 inches, she will take off 2 inches, not 4 inches like other stylists!! Tan pays great attention to detail and after she is done, you walk out of the salon feeling like a million dollars! I went in with my hair dyed BLACK and for any girls that dye their hair knows how hard it is to get black hair dye out without damaging your hair. But she made magic! Going to Vegas this weekend and needed my hair fixed right away. Called yesterday and spoke to Tan and she was able to squeeze me in that day. I went in and she was friendly from the beginning. She gave me tips on what I should do to my hair and as soon as she was done I saw amazing results. She even put a sealer on my hair to keep it from being damaged. I recently got a hair cut and color with Tan and she did an awesome job! She takes her time with you and never rushes. When I go to other salons they tend to double or triple book which can be annoying if you've been sitting under the dryer for such a long time.. Tan is always up to date with the hair trends and listens to what you want. If she feels the style wouldn't work out she will suggest alternative options. I'm giving this salon a 4 because: 5 on haircut 4 on color 3 on decor Was a bit surprised the place was located in a pretty worn down strip mall. It had a BIG sign that listed all the "discounted" specials while I was quoted for $45 a cut on the phone which is NOT cheap. Walked in and found the place to be a bit clustered and random. It's no where decorated like a high end salon you'd find in Newport. There were bunch of personal items mingled with their commerical products. Tan was late for 20 minutes while I waited as she finished another client. She was not apologic for the delay either, not a word of sorry for the wait or thanks for waiting (which I thought was kinda unprofessional). She used street brand products to shampoo, which she said to accomodate the needs of her clients' hair, that I thought was questionable. Got my hair colored with her Loreal Pro line, but it burned by scalp. She was pretty rough with her brush as she was applying color to my roots. She was very fast though, but instead of applying the rest of colors on my strands by quadrants, she slathered and pour the bowl of color (like a bowl of soup) on my head and message it in, which I was not impressed with. Anyhow, she got the job done... since I wasn't doing anything dramatic from my previous hair - but my scalp burned like crazy. She charged me $60 for the coloring, which I find to be out of line out from her banner outside that a perm was like $35... that required alot more time and work. I know how much colors cost. Oh well. I do find her haircutting skill pretty impressive. She took her time layering though my thick and wavy long hair, without leaving cut marks. She looks like she knows how to handle her scissors and her training in NB paid off. I would say she's on the top 3 of various stylists I've worked with. I would go back to her for major haircuts if I can't find someone cheaper. I just don't think her salon is really worth the $45 per cut, given the overal experience and for the area she's located full of other skillful stylists specializing in Asian hair texture. Make sure you bring ample of cash to pay her. I had just enough for my cut and coloring. She indicated that I go down to the ATM at the Green Girl "bikini" bar and get cash to pay her... a strong indiciation to me that she's demanding that tip and I was to pay for ATM fees just to do that. She wasn't going to accept a check from me, for her tip. Again, mixed emotion about going to her salon again... for sure not going to that bar again and feeling out of place grabing cash after she demanded it. Felt kinda robbed. read more

I visited this salon twice since November 2010 and I couldn't have been happier. I'm really sketched out about doing my hair at new places because I don't know if they will do it how I want it to look. Before coming here, I always went to a place down in Newport Beach. It turns out, I don't need to go out that far anymore because Tan is just as good. She said she used to work in Newport Beach too, and I most definitely believe her. She's one of the few ones that actually cut my hair into a lot of layers AND kept the length at the same time! I loved it. I most recently went because the red hair dye I tried at home didn't do anything, so I went to Tan to see if she can fix it. Although she claimed that color doesn't lift color, she did her best and dyed my hair which turned out to be a lot better than when I tried it at home. She always reassured me that she would take care of me, which she did. And she will never bore you because she most definitely knows how to keep a conversation going. I'm still in LOVE my new hair cut and color by Tan! So after having my baby 4 months ago, I badly needed a new hair cut and color. After having a scheduling conflict with my usual hair stylist I took the chance and found Tan based on her yelp reviews. I was super nervous coming in but as soon as I walked in, I felt at ease. I told her I wanted blonde highlights for the summer and she also recommended a layer cut on me for a more fresh look. She worked her magic, and gave me the best hair treatments in between the color process so my hair wouldn't dry out. After a few hours, I LOVE my new color and hair cut. She does the BEST blow dry I ever had. My hair is naturally curly so usually after getting a blow dry, stylists would go through my hair with a straight iron to flatten. But Tan didn't even need to do that and it's still so soft and straight! She showed me the before and after photo of my hair that she had taken, and my exact words were.."OMG I love it!
