My first time at this salon and will definitely be coming back! I have never gotten my hair done professionally so I made an appointment at 1pm on a Monday. There was no wait and I was immediately greeted by a lovely lady named Channing when I walked through the front doors. I gave her a reference photo of the haircut/style I wanted and she executed perfectly. She guided me through each step of the process since I was not familiar with the hairstyle and made sure that everything turned out to my satisfaction. After many yelp reviews and suggestions, I walked into this salon and into the chair of a stylist named Cisco, with ease. I had perceived him as an amazing stylist who knew how to make his clients happy. However, I walked out being proved, WRONG. * I came to Cisco with half my hair being dark brown virgin hair and the bottom half with previous blonde highlights. I asked Cisco if he could achieve a cool toned blonde balayage. He said my hair was in fact ready and strong enough to endure the bleach and reach a level of blonde. I walked out the salon with a light brown balayage which I was not happy about, but was content with. However, after ONE WASH, my hair dramatically turned orange and warm toned! * Frightened, I went back to him in hopes of some sort of resolution. I did not want orange hair! He then had toned my hair and completely gotten rid of the highlights I originally came in with and turned my hair back into its original color...BROWN. Keep in mind I came to him in hopes of a blonde balayage! & the second time I came to correct the orange, we did not discuss brown hair. Do you want to know his resolution after I expressed how much I DISLIKED my hair? Shampoo and conditioner from his salon.. The outrage in my heart after hearing that was unbelievable. That is not a resolution.* How can you as a stylist see your client so unhappy with the outcome of YOUR service and still let them leave your salon filled with anger, heartbreak, and a disgust for their own hair. I spent time, $200, the health of my hair... for brown hair that I already had came in with and highlights that I originally had, vanished. I hope to those who are skeptical of getting your hair done, professionally, find this story useful. He is not a professional. He does not care about the service he exchanges but cares more about the cost he endures. He was paid, therefore he did not care to fix the mess on my head that he created. Now a days it's so risky going to anyone for a service, I am so disheartened by him and his work. PS: I truly hope to those reading, that you do not risk what I did. Do not go to him for any service. I was referred to this salon to go to Maggie for my hair color and I'm so happy I found her! Maggie has been really great with coloring my hair. She has a really good eye for trying different colors that she think will look good on you. She's very popular so make sure to make your appointment well in advance. Their prices are pretty reasonable which is very nice because it can be hard to find someone with the quality of work Maggie does with her price range. His experience with color saves me. My hair has never faded to orange or red. My grey is covered evenly. Best of all, my hair is never fried despite the extra processing. Went in on a weekday for a spur of the moment haircut for me and the BF. He had to get spiffed up for the Magic Castle so he needed a haircut anyways! Michelle did both our haircuts in less than 1.5 hour (mine taking longer, of course). She was very nice, friendly, and took her time patiently cutting our hair. She even gave an awesome scalp massage during the shampoo (BF said this was definitely a selling point and would even come back JUST for that!). She hand cut the top of my BF's hair instead of just buzzing it like normal hairdressers do--he didn't have to wait two weeks for his hair to look "normal" again, it looked really good out of the salon! She did do my hair a little differently than I'm used to (but I didn't give her much direction and let her run with it).. and all in all I was very pleased. We will definitely be back! read more

Two years this week. It took me two years to be able to update my review without ranting and raving and crying like a mad person. Everything I said before flew out the window when they carelessly over-processed my hair to the point of it ALL FALLING OUT. That's right, I'm not exaggerating. It took me two years to grow it back to a normal length, still not where it was before. I still have another 2 years to go to completely recover from this. Everyone I know advised me to sue. I was too heartbroken to do anything. I know it sounds melodramatic, but I've always had long hair - and women hold their hair dear - can you imagine going bald? And not for a legitimate reason that was unavoidable - for a stupid one that was not your fault. I even went to a wig shop in tears, to have the lady tell me my head was too big and she would have to shave off the little stumps that remained in order to be able to fit something. My mother recommended bringing back the turban. It was that bad. I didn't leave my house for almost a year and when I did it was wearing a hat and extensions (since it was so short the extensions didn't blend in so I had to cover the top with a hat). I limited hair washing to a week because I couldn't deal with the emotional turmoil of standing in the shower holding chunks of my falling hair. I would come out crying every time. Remember how I was going on about how great it was that he encouraged me to go platinum blonde when I already had really damaged hair? I went to the salon to get it dyed DARKER, because my hair was so fragile. He recommended platinum. I was uneasy about the extra damage and first said no, but he reassured me that he could do it. And he was so convincing and professional, I was dazzled and decided to trust him. The first trip was very successful, my hair came out beautifully and I was incredibly happy. He made me feel very comfortable by using his formulas and writing everything down - a "true professional." I went in for a root touch up before Christmas and it came out horribly patchy, plus my scalp was burned. There were blotches of bright yellow with other blotches of bright purple. It was terrible. So after the holidays I went in to get it fixed. They re-bleached, and then bleached again. For anyone who is keeping track, that's 3 bleach-to-platinum processes over the same line of demarcation (the line between your new hair and your processed hair) and more bleach over a scarred scalp. Of course, that made it snap off. Even a 15-year-old experimenting with home dyes wouldn't attempt this. After the wash, a lady sat me in the chair and was carefully combing my hair, shaking her hand off every couple seconds. I thought it was strange but didn't look back. Then I looked into the mirror and saw an inch long stub shoot straight up from my head. I then ran my fingers through my hair and my hands came back full. I looked down and there was hair everywhere. I immediately ran out and cried. After calming myself, I came back and of course, Michael made it sound like it was my fault. He has a way with words. - "It's probably from all that flat-ironing you do." - "I don't own a flat-iron." - "Well then you for sure did something else." - "Right... it wasn't the bleach..." I left the salon, still getting charged over $350 for them literally murdering my hair, but hey, they gave me a free conditioner. Michael called later that week to check up on me, which is good follow up I suppose, and told me to come in to see what he could do. I told him to dye it back to my natural color, nothing damaging, so it hopefully stops breaking at some point and to just let it air-dry. Even then he insisted on going with a different color, probably so he wouldn't lose the business. I almost let him persuade me, and then Cisco noticed I wasn't happy, and until he whispered, "It's your hair, you should decide what you want", I realized it was true. So I insisted on dark brown, my natural color. And I'm glad I did, but Michael clearly wasn't. You would think that at least this service would have been complimentary, but even this, he charged, saying "I don't usually do this, but I'll give you 50% off this visit." Oh, thank you! How sweet! So normally you charge $240 for plain color? Because I left with a $120 bill. And I'm supposed to feel grateful. Again, he has a way with words. So now, two years later, I have yet to return to ANY salon. I've vowed to never dye my hair again and have my mom trim the ends. I hate writing negative reviews, but considering I didn't sue, this should be considered a win for them. I don't think anyone over there is a bad person - in fact, I think they're all great people, but what happened to me is unforgivable and I don't think I was treated responsibly, to say the least. I should have done something, but again, I couldn't bring myself to, I was too devastated. And I'm still recovering, 2 years later, which should never be the end result of a simple salon visit. read more

BAD BAD BAD BAAAAD! They are not even worth giving a star to start with. I only went here since I've read good reviews about it. But it's a big mistake. VERY VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. Want to know why? Read below. It's worth the info before going here. I called yesterday to make an appointment today. I went there right on time. The receptionist told me to sit for a while and wait for Patty, so I did. I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR AN HOUR and I'm not being attended to. Not even the other staff who was just walking around. They didn't tell me if I needed anything or if someone's already assisting me. NOTHING. I sat there, finished 2 magazines - IN SILENCE - watching them, obeserving them what they'll do with me. Another customer went in after me and she was quickly attended to. I finally went to the front desk (the receptionist was not there), so I asked another staff. I asked for PATTY (the hairstylist who were supposed to do my hair), and she went running at the back. She came back with the receptionist that I talked to earlier and...what do you know....Patty (she was there all the time)!!! They were even asking me if I informed anyone that I'm there and she thought I wasn't going to make it. HELLO? I WAS ALREADY THERE AN HOUR AGO. I told the receptionist about it. Patty apologized. The receptionist - who was really responsible for it - didn't. Patty insisted to do my hair. But I'm already pissed off to let them fix me. A Salon in the mall usually makes me uncomfortable and leaves me questioning the quality. This is not one of those Salons. Maggie in particular has an eye for hair color. I cannot express how much I hate red tones in my hair. In fact, I have expressed it to so many hair stylists I was beginning to think I had no choice but to accept the reddish color my hair picked up. Maggie figured it out within my first appointment! She took the time to sit and ask me what I am looking for and gave me suggestions based on my preferences. The last time I went she suggested a subtle ombre. I was VERY hesitant but she showed me what she was thinking and I LOVE what she did. She also does an amazing blowout! Since she is so amazing she is also hard to book (and does not work Fridays). I suggest making an apt stat! The prices are very reasonable ($50 cut/blowout) and the staff is friendly. I am looking forward to my next appointment with Maggie! read more

I've been goin to salon vivace for at least 7 years. Patty has actually been my hairstylist for the entire time...if she is out of town, or not available, her schedule is pretty specific I go to her sister Maggie who is amazing! I've refered friends there, but I've been going so long and weekly that I just call say who i am and they schedule me... Before I found Patty, i had some awful experiences with other stylists there, so i stick with Maggie or Patty....its to bad joh D. had such a bad experience, Patty is actually a really good stylist....(although im a lil pissy right now that 160 bux later i dont have the color i want...thats another story for another day. read more

If you are in the Torrance area, specifically at the Del Amo Fashion Center also known as the Del Amo Mall, then go towards Joann's and Macy's (there are 3 Macy's stores so make sure you are at the one by Joann's Fabric Store) and let your hair down as you enter Salon Vivace. If you get lost, don't worry, just give them a call and they will talk you through it, otherwise I suggest either parking in the lot by Joann's or by the lot facing Acapulco Restaurant. When it comes to choosing a stylist, try and see if these excellent stylists are available: Marya and Sandy, both ladies are knowledgeable when it comes to shampoo/cut/blowdry and styling of hair. For long hair, I noticed they had a technique of having the client stand up and go behind the chair while the stylist cut the hair in the back. I commented on how it was a great way to see how straight the hair is in comparison to how it flows from the back and that the stylists were practicing good body mechanics. They even offered coffee, tea, or water to drink. There was also a shelf in back of the mirror to place my belongings, which I thought was clever because some bags that are placed in front can either be in the way of the stylist and their tools or have the possibility of having hair all over them. The salon was large in comparison to the usual salons I go to at the Cerritos Mall and the restroom was clean as well. The receptionist desk is large enough where you can wait and not feel like you are crowding the area. Don't be alarmed if you go on a Friday afternoon and notice empty chairs, it may not be fully packed, but it is not a noisy environment. I like knowing that your stylist can hear what you want without the annoying sound of talkative customers or loud equipment. I suggest booking your appointment at least a day in advance, although I was able to call the day of and I was seen in a matter of minutes. Super pleased with the quality of service I experience at every visit! A girlfriend had referred me to see Maggie... So happy I did! Total hair consultation prior to beginning the color process, was really awesome... She listened to what I wanted, what I didn't want and kindly made suggestions. We came to the conclusion that I wanted to test the theory... "Do blonds have more fun?"...I'm still testing the theory...LOL But I always leave very satisfied with my hair, which has not always been the case in the past (with other salons );0(. Before I had anything done to my hair NATALIE GARDNER sat down with me for I don't even know how long and discussed every possible direction we could take to get exactly what I wanted. She is an amazing communicator and know's what she is doing!! I was pretty nervous but she addressed every one of my fears and concerns, answered every one of my questions, and made me feel extremely comfortable. I've been coming to see Cisco for several months now and it would be a huge disservice to anyone looking for someone great to do their hair -- if I didn't post this update. When I first came to Cisco, my hair was thinning and orange...it had been worked over and desperately needed someone who both A) understood the science of hair and B) had a natural gift for color, cut and styling. Cisco has all three. Because of him, things have completely turned around and I'm so happy with the results he gives me every time. My hair is thick and coarse and Cisco does blowouts that are SPECTACULAR. His cuts are exactly what suit me best and his colors?? FORGET ABOUT IT. He has the gift of being able to give you exactly what you want and better yet, he knows what works and doesn't, and will set expectations when you're being unrealistic or think you want something you actually don't. NEVER let Michael touch your hair, you will regret it!!! Michael chopped off several inches when I said I wanted shoulder length, I immediately cried and was confused. I only had a few inches of hair left. I had long hair my whole life and was in shock. On top of that, one side was atleast an inch longer and he tried to blame me telling me to I should have brought a picture in. I never asked for all my hair to be cut off. My hair was so short I wore beanies to cover it. Nobody should have to go through the pain and sadness he caused me for just wanting a simple hair cut. read more

The most horrible blowout ever!! It didnt last even 1 hour. The stylist made it look like a hairstyle from the 80s which looked nothing like the picture I showed her. I had to specifically request the styist to correct it many times before she made it look acceptable.The only reason I didnt ask for anyone else to correct it is because I didnt have any more time left after wasting 1 hour in that chair. At the end, I also had to remind her to apply some hair serum and hairspray because I needed the 'style' to last for the evening. I wonder about the quality of products they use as the 'style' looked even messier by the evening. Don't waste your time. There are much better salons within a mile of this place. read more
